³ asking a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem; laying a plot to kill him on the way.

⁴ Howbeit Festus answered, that Paul was kept in charge at Cæsarea, and that he himself was about to depart thither shortly.

⁵ Let them therefore, saith he, that are of power among you go down with me, and if there is anything amiss in the man, let them accuse him.

³ And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

⁴ But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cæsarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.

⁵ Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.

³ They urgently asked Festus to do something for them. They asked him to command soldiers to bring Paul to Jerusalem, so that Festus could put him on trial there. But they were planning that some of them would hide near the road and wait for Paul and kill him when he was traveling to Jerusalem.

⁴ But Festus replied, “Paul is in Caesarea, and is being guarded { soldiers are guarding him} there. I myself will go down to Caesarea in a few days.

⁵ Choose some of your leaders to go there with me. While they are there, they can accuse Paul of the wrong things that you say that he has done.”

⁴ But Festus, in answer, said that Paul was being kept in prison at Caesarea, and that in a short time he himself was going there.

⁵ So, he said, let those who have authority among you go with me, and if there is any wrong in the man, let them make a statement against him.

³ asking as a grace against him that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying people in wait to kill him on the way.

⁴ Festus therefore answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to set out shortly.

⁵ Let therefore the persons of authority among you, says he, going down too, if there be anything in this man, accuse him.

⁴ But Festus answered: That Paul was kept in Caesarea, and that he himself would very shortly depart thither.

⁵ “Therefore,” he said, “the prominent men among you, let them go with me and accuse this man, if there is anything in this man.”

³ begging a favor from him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem—preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.

⁴ However Festus answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, he himself being about to go there shortly.

⁵ He said, “So let those who are competent among you go down with me; if there is anything against this man, let them accuse him.”

³ They begged Festus as a favor to send Paul to Jerusalem, plotting to ambush and kill him on the way.

⁴ But Festus replied that Paul was in custody at Caesarea and that he himself would be there shortly.

⁵ “Your leaders can come with me, and make their accusation against this man, if he has done anything wrong,” he told them.

³ And desired fauour against him, that hee would send for him to Hierusalem: and they layd waite to kill him by the way.

⁴ But Festus answered, that Paul should bee kept at Caesarea, and that he himselfe would shortly depart thither.

³ Then they asked Festus, “Can you tell your soldiers to bring Paul to Jerusalem right now, and judge him here?” You see, they were going to secretly hide near the road and wait for Paul to come along, then jump up and kill him.

⁴ But Festus said, “Paul is in Caesarea, and my soldiers are guarding him there. I’ll be going back to Caesarea in a few days,

⁵ so you pick some of your leaders to come with me. They can blame Paul in my court there.”

³ and desired faveour agaynst him that he wold sende for him to Ierusalem: and layde awayte for him in the waye to kill him.

⁴ Festus answered that Paul shuld be kept at Cesarea: but that he him selfe wold shortly departe thither.

⁵ Let the therfore (sayd he) which amonge you are able to do it come doune with vs and accuse him if ther be eny faute in the man.

³ and asked him for a favor that would put Paul in danger—that Festus might summon Paul to Jerusalem so that they could kill him along the way.

⁴ Festus answered that Paul was being held at Caesarea, and that he himself was going there soon.

⁵ “Therefore, those who can,” he said, “should go there with us. If there is something wrong with the man, you should accuse him.”

⁵ Therefore he said, They that in you (who) be mighty, come down together; and if any crime is in the man (or and if the man hath done any crime), accuse they him.

⁴ Then, indeed, Festus answered that Paul is kept in Caesarea, and himself is about speedily to go on thither,

⁵ 'Therefore those able among you — saith he — having come down together, if there be anything in this man — let them accuse him;'
