¹⁸ amidst which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult: but there were certain Jews from Asia—

¹⁹ who ought to have been here before thee, and to make accusation, if they had aught against me.

²⁰ Or else let these men themselves say what wrong-doing they found when I stood before the council,

²¹ except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question before you this day.

²² But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will determine your matter.

²³ And he gave order to the centurion that he should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbid any of his friends to minister unto him.

¹⁸ Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

¹⁹ Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

²⁰ Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

²¹ Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

²² And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

²³ And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

²² But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will determine your matter.

²³ And he gave order to the centurion that he should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbid any of his friends to minister unto him.

¹⁸ Some Jews saw me in the temple courts after I had completed the ritual by which a person is made {that makes a person} pure. There was no crowd with me, and I was not causing people to riot.

¹⁹ But it was some other Jews who had come from Asia province who really caused people to riot. They should be here in front of you (sg) to accuse me, if they thought that I did something wrong.

²⁰ But if they do not want to do that (OR, But because they are not here), these Jewish men who are here should tell you (sg) what they think I did that was wrong, when I defended myself before their Council.

²¹ They might say that one thing that I shouted as I stood before them was wrong. What I said was, ‘You are judging me today because I believe that God will ◄cause all people who have died to become alive again/raise all people from the dead►.’”

²² Felix already knew quite a lot about what people called ❛the way of Jesus❜. But he did not let Paul or his accusers continue to speak. Instead, he said to them, “ Later, when Commander Lysias comes down here, I will decide these matters that concern you all.”

²³ Then he told the officer who was guarding Paul to take Paul back to the prison and make sure that he was guarded all the time. But he said that Paul was not to be chained {that the officer was not to fasten chains on him}, and if his friends came to visit him, the officer should allow them to help Paul in any way that they wished.

²⁰ Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,

²¹ unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!’”

²² But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case.”

²³ He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.

²³ He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.

¹⁸ And having been made clean, I was in the Temple, but not with a great number of people, and not with noise: but there were certain Jews from Asia,

¹⁹ And it would have been better if they had come here to make a statement, if they have anything against me.

²⁰ Or let these men here present say what wrongdoing was seen in me when I was before the Sanhedrin,

²¹ But only this one thing which I said among them in a loud voice, I am this day being judged on the question of the coming back from the dead.

²² But Felix, who had a more detailed knowledge of the Way, put them off, saying, When Lysias, the chief captain, comes down, I will give attention to your business.

²³ And he gave orders to the captain to keep Paul under his control, and to let him have everything he had need of; and not to keep his friends from coming to see him.

¹⁸ Whereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia,

¹⁹ who ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me;

²⁰ or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council,

²¹ other than concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching the resurrection of the dead.

²² And Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair;

²³ ordering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him.

¹⁸ In which I was found purified in the temple: neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

¹⁹ But certain Jews of Asia, who ought to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had any thing against me:

²⁰ Or let these men themselves say, if they found in me any iniquity, when standing before the council,

²¹ Except it be for this one voice only that I cried, standing among them, Concerning the resurrection of the dead am I judged this day by you.

²² And Felix put them off, having most certain knowledge of this way, saying: When Lysias the tribune shall come down, I will hear you.

²³ And he commanded a centurion to keep him, and that he should be easy, and that he should not prohibit any of his friends to minister unto him.

¹⁸ among whom some Jews from Asia found me, having been purified in the temple, not with a crowd nor with turmoil,

¹⁹ who ought to be present before you and to make accusation if anything they might have against me.

²⁰ Or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me, when I stood before the council,

²¹ unless it is because of this one statement which I cried out, standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged by you today.’ ”

²² And when he heard these things, Felix adjourned them, knowing more accurately the things concerning the Way, and said, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case.”

²³ And ordering the centurion to keep watch over Paul and to let him have some liberty, and not to forbid any of his own to serve or to come to him.

¹⁸ in the midst of which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor confusion.

¹⁹ They are the ones that had to be here before you and make accusation, if they had anything against me.

²⁰ Or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me, when I stood before the council,

²¹ unless it be for this one statement that I called out, standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged by you today.’ ”

²² Upon hearing these things Felix, having an accurate knowledge of the things concerning the Way, adjourned the proceedings and said, “When Lysias the commander comes down I will decide your case.”

²³ And he ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody but have some freedom, and not to forbid any of his friends to provide for or to visit him.

¹⁸ That's what they found me doing in the Temple—completing the ceremony of purification. There was no crowd and no disturbance.

¹⁹ But some Jews from the province of Asia were there, who should be present here before you today to bring their charges, if they have anything against me.

²⁰ Otherwise let these men here explain themselves what crime they found me guilty of when I stood before the council,

²¹ except for the time when I shouted out to them, ‘I am on trial before you today because of my belief in the resurrection of the dead.’”

²² Felix who was well-informed about the Way then adjourned the trial. “When Lysias the commander comes I will make my decision regarding your case,” he said.

²³ He ordered the centurion to keep Paul in custody but to allow him some measure of freedom and to let Paul's friends care for him without interference.

¹⁸ At what time, certaine Iewes of Asia founde mee purified in the Temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

¹⁹ Who ought to haue bene present before thee, and accuse me, if they had ought against me.

²⁰ Or let these themselues say, if they haue found any vniust thing in mee, while I stoode in the Council,

²¹ Except it be for this one voyce, that I cried standing among them, Of the resurrection of the dead am I accused of you this day.

²² Nowe when Felix heard these things, he deferred them, and said, When I shall more perfectly know the things which concerne this way, by the comming of Lysias the chiefe Captaine, I will decise your matter.

²³ Then hee commanded a Centurion to keepe Paul, and that he should haue ease, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister vnto him, or to come vnto him.

²² But Felix, having an accurate knowledge of the matters relating to this way of belief, put them off, and said, When Lysias the chief captain cometh down, I will thoroughly examine your case.

²³ He also gave orders to the centurion to guard him, and let him have indulgence, and not to forbid any of his friends to do him service.

¹⁸ and it was while engaged in this that they found me in the Temple, after completing a period of purification, but not with any crowd or disorder.

¹⁹ There were, however, some Jews from Roman Asia who ought to have been here before you, and to have made any charge that they may have against me —

²⁰ Or else let my opponents here say what they found wrong in me when I was before the Council,

²¹ except as to the one sentence that I shouted out as I stood amongst them — ‘It is about the resurrection of the dead that I am on my trial before you today’.”

²² Felix, however, adjourned the case — though he had a fairly accurate knowledge of all that concerned the Way — with the promise, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will give my decision in your case.”

²³ So he gave orders to the captain in charge of Paul to keep him in custody, but to relax the regulations, and not to prevent any of his personal friends from attending to his wants.

¹⁸ and it was while engaged in this that they found me in the Temple, after completing a period of purification, but not with any crowd or disorder.

¹⁹ There were, however, some Jews from Roman Asia who ought to have been here before you, and to have made any charge that they may have against me —

¹⁸ And I did the ceremony to make myself clean. But some Jews saw me there at God’s ceremony house. I was by myself. There was no mob of people with me, and I was not upsetting anybody or getting them to go wild.

¹⁹ But it was some other Jews from Asia country that made the people go wild. If those Asia Jews really thought I did something wrong, why didn’t they come here to blame me in front of you? I reckon they know their story isn’t true.

²⁰ And this mob here, they had me in their Jewish court in Jerusalem. But can they tell you that they found me guilty of something? No. I told them my story and they didn’t say that I was guilty of anything.

²¹ But there is one thing I did in that court that upset them. I shouted, ‘You are judging me today because I believe that God will make all the dead people become alive again.’ That’s all I said.”

²² Then Felix stopped the court. You see, he already knew a lot about the Jesus Way. He said to them all, “That boss of the soldiers in Jerusalem, called Lysias, he will come here later, and I will listen to his story too, and then I will say if Paul is guilty or not.”

²³ Then he told the boss of his soldiers, “Take Paul back to the jail and make sure that he stays there, but don’t tie him up. And let his friends come to visit him and look after him.”

¹⁸ Howbeit there were certayne Iewes out of Asia

¹⁹ which ought to be here present before the and accuse me yf they had ought agaynst me:

²⁰ or els let these same here saye if they have founde eny evyll doinge in me whill I stonde here in the counsell:

²¹ except it be for this one voyce that I cryed stondinge amonge the of the resurreccion from deeth am I iudged of you this daye.

²² When Felix hearde these thinges he deferde them for he knewe very well of that waye and sayde: when Lisias the captayne is come I will know the vtmost of youre matters.

²³ And he commaunded an vndercaptayne to kepe Paul and that he shuld have rest and that he shuld forbyd none of his aquayntauce to minister vnto him or to come vnto him.

¹⁸ When I did this, certain Jews from Asia found me in a purification ceremony in the temple, not with a crowd or an uproar.

¹⁹ These men ought to be before you now and say what they have against me, if they have anything.

²⁰ Or else, these same men should say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the Jewish council,

²¹ unless it is about this one thing that I shouted out when I stood among them, 'It is concerning the resurrection of those who have died that I am on trial before you today.'”

²² Then Felix, who was well informed about the Way, ajourned the hearing. He said, “When Lysias the commander comes down from Jerusalem, I will decide your case.”

²³ Then he commanded the centurion that Paul should be kept under guard, but to have some freedom so that none of his friends would be prevented from attending to his needs.

¹⁸ amid which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with a mob, nor with turmoil.

¹⁹ They ought to have been here before you and to make accusation if they had anything against me.

²⁰ Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,

¹⁹ which or whom it behooved to be now present at thee, and accuse, if they had anything against me,

²⁰ either these themselves say, if they found in me anything of wicked-ness, since I stand in the council,

²¹ but only of this one voice, by which I cried standing among them, For of the again-rising of dead men I am deemed this day of you.

²² Soothly Felix delayed or deferred them, and knew most certainly of the way, and said, When Lysias, the tribune, shall come down, I shall hear you.

²³ And he commanded to a centurion to keep him, and that he had rest or to have rest, neither to forbid any man to minister of his own things to him.

¹⁸ in which they found me purified in the temple, not with company, neither with noise. And they caught (hold of) me, and they cried, and said, Take away our enemy. And some Jews of Asia,

¹⁹ which it behooved to be now present at thee, or whom it behooved to be now present at thee, (or here before thee), and accuse (me), if they had anything against me,

²⁰ either these themselves say, if they (have) found in me anything of wickedness, since I stand in the council,

²¹ but only of this one voice, by which I cried standing among them, For of the again-rising of dead men or For of the again-rising of (the) dead I am deemed this day of you. (but only because of this one thing, which I cried out while standing among them, yea, Because of the resurrection of the dead I am judged, or I am on trial, this day before you.)

²² Soothly Felix delayed or deferred them, and knew most certainly of the way, and said, When Lysias, the tribune (or the commander), shall come down, I shall hear you.

²³ And he commanded to a centurion to keep him, and that he had rest or and to have (some) rest, neither to forbid any man to minister of his own things to him.

¹⁸ in which certain Jews from Asia did find me purified in the temple, not with multitude, nor with tumult,

¹⁹ whom it behoveth to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had anything against me,

²⁰ or let these same say if they found any unrighteousness in me in my standing before the sanhedrim,

²¹ except concerning this one voice, in which I cried, standing among them — Concerning a rising again of the dead I am judged to-day by you.'

²² And having heard these things, Felix delayed them — having known more exactly of the things concerning the way — saying, 'When Lysias the chief captain may come down, I will know fully the things concerning you;'

²³ having given also a direction to the centurion to keep Paul, to let him also have liberty, and to forbid none of his own friends to minister or to come near to him.
