⁴ And having found the disciples, we tarried there seven days: and these said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not set foot in Jerusalem.

⁵ And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way till we were out of the city: and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed, and bade each other farewell;

⁶ and we went on board the ship, but they returned home again.

⁷ And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and we saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

⁸ And on the morrow we departed, and came unto Cæsarea: and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.

⁹ Now this man had four virgin daughters, who prophesied.

¹⁰ And as we tarried there some days, there came down from Judæa a certain prophet, named Agabus.

¹¹ And coming to us, and taking Paul’s girdle, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹² And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴ And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁵ And after these days we took up our baggage and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And there went with us also certain of the disciples from Cæsarea, bringing with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we should lodge.

¹⁷ And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

¹⁸ And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

¹⁹ And when he had saluted them, he rehearsed one by one the things which God had wrought among the Gentiles through his ministry.

²⁰ And they, when they heard it, glorified God; and they said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of them that have believed; and they are all zealous for the law:

²¹ and they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

²² What is it therefore? they will certainly hear that thou art come.

²³ Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men that have a vow on them;

²⁴ these take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges for them, that they may shave their heads: and all shall know that there is no truth in the things whereof they have been informed concerning thee; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.

²⁵ But as touching the Gentiles that have believed, we wrote, giving judgment that they should keep themselves from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication.

⁴ And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

⁵ And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.

⁶ And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.

⁷ And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

⁸ And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Cæsarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

⁹ And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

¹⁰ And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judæa a certain prophet, named Agabus.

¹¹ And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹² And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴ And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁵ And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ There went with us also certain of the disciples of Cæsarea, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.

¹⁷ And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

¹⁸ And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

¹⁹ And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

²⁰ And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:

²¹ And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

²² What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.

²³ Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;

²⁴ Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

²⁵ As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

⁴ Someone told us where the believers in Tyre lived, so we (exc) went and stayed with them for seven days. Because God's Spirit revealed to them ◄ that people would cause Paul to suffer/Paul would suffer► in Jerusalem, they told Paul that he should not go there.

⁵ But when it was time for the ship to leave again, we prepared to continue going to Jerusalem. When we left Tyre, all the believers, including their wives and children, went with us to the edge of the sea. We all knelt down there on the sand/shore and prayed.

⁶ After we all said goodbye, Paul and we his companions got on the ship, and the other believers returned to their own homes.

⁷ After we (exc) left Tyre, we continued on that ship to Ptolemais city. There were believers there, and we greeted them and stayed with them that night.

⁸ The next day we left Ptolemais and sailed to Caesarea city, where we stayed in the home of Philip, who spent his days telling others how to become disciples of Jesus. He was one of the seven men whom the believers in Jerusalem had chosen to care for the widows.

⁹ He had four daughters who were not married. Each of them frequently spoke messages that the Holy Spirit had revealed to them.

¹⁰ After we(exc) had been in Philip's house for several days, a believer whose name was Agabus came down from Judea district and arrived in Caesarea. He frequently spoke messages that the Holy Spirit had told him.

¹¹ Coming over to where we were, he took off Paul's belt. Then he tied his own feet and hands with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘The Jewish leaders SYN in Jerusalem will tie up the hands and feet of the owner of this belt, like this, and they will hand him over to non-Jewish people as a prisoner.’”

¹² When the rest of us heard that, we and other believers there repeatedly pled with Paul, “Please do not go up to Jerusalem!”

¹³ But Paul replied, “◄Please stop crying and trying to discourage me IDM from going!/Why are you crying and trying to discourage me IDM from going?► RHQ I am willing to be put { for people to put me} in prison and also to be killed { for them to kill me} in Jerusalem because I serve MTY the Lord Jesus.”

¹⁴ When we(exc) realized that he was determined to go to Jerusalem, we did not try any longer to persuade him not to go. We said, “May ◄the Lord God do what he wants/the Lord's will be done►!”

¹⁵ After those days in Caesarea, we (exc) prepared our things and left to go by land up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Some of the believers from Caesarea also went with us. On the way to Jerusalem, we stayed one night in the house of a man whose name was Mnason. He was from Cyprus Island, and he had believed in Jesus when people were first beginning to hear the message about him.

¹⁷ When we arrived in Jerusalem, a group of the believers greeted us happily.

¹⁸ The next day Paul and the rest of us went to speak with James, who was the leader of the congregation there. All of the other leaders/elders of the congregation in Jerusalem were also there.

¹⁹ Paul greeted them, and then he reported all of the things that God had enabled him to do among the non-Jewish people.

²⁰ When they heard that, James and the other elders said, “Praise the Lord!” Then one of them said to Paul, “Brother/Friend, you (sg) know that there are very many thousands of us (inc) Jewish people here who have believed in the Lord Jesus. Also, you know that we (inc) all continue very carefully to obey the laws that Moses gave us.

²¹ But our fellow Jewish believers have been told {have heard people say} that when you are among non-Jews, you tell the Jewish believers who live there that they should stop obeying the laws MTY ◄ of Moses/ that Moses received from God►. People say that you tell those Jewish believers not to circumcise their sons and not to practice our other customs. We(exc) do not believe that this is true.

²² But our fellow Jewish believers will certainly hear that you have arrived, and they will be angry with you. So you need to do something RHQ to show them that what they heard about you is not true.

²³ So you should do what we suggest to you. There are four men among us who have strongly promised to God about something.

²⁴ Go with these men to the Temple and ritually purify yourself along with them. Then, when it is time for them to offer the sacrifices for that ritual, pay for what they offer as sacrifices. After that, they can shave their heads to show that they have done what they promised to do. And when people see you in the courts of the Temple with those men, they will know that what they have been told {what people have told them} about you is not true. Instead, all of them will know that you obey all our Jewish laws and rituals.

²⁵ As for the non-Jewish believers, we elders here in Jerusalem have talked about which of our laws they should obey, and we (exc) wrote them a letter, telling them what we decided. We wrote that they should not eat meat that people have offered as a sacrifice to any idol, that they should not eat blood from animals, and that they should not eat meat from animals that people have killed by strangling them. We also told them that they should not have sex with someone to whom they are not married.”

⁵ And when these days came to an end, we went on our journey; and they all, with their wives and children, came with us on our way till we were out of the town: and after going on our knees in prayer by the sea,

⁶ We said our last words to one another, and got into the ship, and they went back to their houses.

⁷ And journeying by ship from Tyre we came to Ptolemais; and there we had talk with the brothers and were with them for one day.

⁸ And on the day after, we went away and came to Caesarea, where we were guests in the house of Philip, the preacher, who was one of the seven.

⁹ And he had four daughters, virgins, who were prophets.

¹⁰ And while we were waiting there for some days, a certain prophet, named Agabus, came down from Judaea.

¹¹ And he came to us, and took the band of Paul's clothing, and putting it round his feet and hands, said, The Holy Spirit says these words, So will the Jews do to the man who is the owner of this band, and they will give him up into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹² And hearing these things, we and those who were living in that place made request to him not to go to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul said, What are you doing, weeping and wounding my heart? for I am ready, not only to be a prisoner, but to be put to death at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴ And as he might not be moved we did no more, saying, Let the purpose of God be done.

¹⁵ And after these days we got ready and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, taking a certain Mnason of Cyprus, one of the early disciples, in whose house we were to be living.

¹⁷ And when we came to Jerusalem, the brothers were pleased to see us.

¹⁸ And on the day after, Paul went with us to James, and all the rulers of the church were present.

¹⁹ And when he had said how glad he was to see them, he gave them a detailed account of the things which God had done through his work among the Gentiles.

²⁰ And hearing it, they gave praise to God; and they said to him, You see, brother, what thousands there are among the Jews, who have the faith; and they all have a great respect for the law:

²¹ And they have had news of you, how you have been teaching all the Jews among the Gentiles to give up the law of Moses, and not to give circumcision to their children, and not to keep the old rules.

²² What then is the position? They will certainly get news that you have come.

²³ Do this, then, which we say to you: We have four men who have taken an oath;

²⁴ Go with these, and make yourself clean with them, and make the necessary payments for them, so that they may be free from their oath: and everyone will see that the statements made about you are not true, but that you put yourself under rule, and keep the law.

²⁵ But as to the Gentiles who have the faith, we sent a letter, giving our decision that they were to keep themselves from offerings made to false gods, and from blood, and from the flesh of animals put to death in ways against the law, and from the evil desires of the body.

⁴ And having found out the disciples, we remained there seven days; who said to Paul by the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.

⁵ But when we had completed the days, we set out and took our journey, all of them accompanying us, with wives and children, till we were out of the city. And kneeling down upon the shore we prayed.

⁶ And having embraced one another, we went on board ship, and they returned home.

⁷ And we, having completed the voyage, arrived from Tyre at Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them.

⁸ And leaving on the morrow, we came to Caesarea; and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was of the seven, we abode with him.

¹⁰ And as we stayed there many days, a certain man, by name Agabus, a prophet, came down from Judaea,

¹¹ and coming to us and taking the girdle of Paul, and having bound his own hands and feet, said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose this girdle is shall the Jews thus bind in Jerusalem, and deliver him up into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹² And when we heard these things, both we and those of the place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹⁵ And after these days, having got our effects ready, we went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, bringing with them a certain Mnason, a Cyprian, an old disciple, with whom we were to lodge.

¹⁷ And when we arrived at Jerusalem the brethren gladly received us.

¹⁸ And on the morrow Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders came there.

¹⁹ And having saluted them, he related one by one the things which God had wrought among the nations by his ministry.

²⁰ And they having heard it glorified God, and said to him, Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of the Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law.

²¹ And they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews among the nations apostasy from Moses, saying that they should not circumcise their children, nor walk in the customs.

²² What is it then? a multitude must necessarily come together, for they will hear that thou art come.

²³ This do therefore that we say to thee: We have four men who have a vow on them;

²⁴ take these and be purified with them, and pay their expenses, that they may have their heads shaved; and all will know that of those things of which they have been informed about thee nothing is true; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.

²⁵ But concerning those of the nations who have believed, we have written, deciding that they should observe no such thing, only to keep themselves both from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication.

⁴ And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

⁵ And the days being expired, departing we went forward, they all bringing us on our way, with their wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and we prayed.

⁶ And when we had bid one another farewell, we took ship; and they returned home.

⁷ But we having finished the voyage by sea, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais: and saluting the brethren, we abode one day with them.

⁸ And the next day departing, we came to Caesarea. And entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.

⁹ And he had four daughters, virgins, who did prophesy.

¹⁰ And as we tarried there for some days, there came from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

¹¹ Who, when he was come to us, took Paul’s girdle: and binding his own feet and hands, he said: Thus saith the Holy Ghost: The man whose girdle this is, the Jews shall bind in this manner in Jerusalem, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹² Which when we had heard, both we and they that were of that place, desired him that he would not go up to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered, and said: What do you mean weeping and afflicting my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but to die also in Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴ And when we could not persuade him, we ceased, saying: The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁵ And after those days, being prepared, we went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And there went also with us some of the disciples from Caesarea, bringing with them one Mnason a Cyprian, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.

¹⁷ And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

¹⁸ And the day following, Paul went in with us unto James; and all the ancients were assembled.

¹⁹ Whom when he had saluted, he related particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

²⁰ But they hearing it, glorified God, and said to him: Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews that have believed: and they are all zealous for the law.

²¹ Now they have heard of thee that thou teachest those Jews, who are among the Gentiles, to depart from Moses: saying, that they ought not to circumcise their children, nor walk according to the custom.

²² What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.

²³ Do therefore this that we say to thee. We have four men, who have a vow on them.

²⁴ Take these, and sanctify thyself with them: and bestow on them, that they may shave their heads: and all will know that the things which they have heard of thee, are false; but that thou thyself also walkest keeping the law.

⁸ On the next day those accompanying Paul went forth and came to Caesarea, and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we stayed with him.

¹⁰ And while we remained there several days, a certain prophet from Judea named Agabus came down.

¹¹ And coming to us and taking Paul's belt, and binding his feet and hands, he said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit: ‘The man whose belt this is, the Jews will bind in this way in Jerusalem, and they will deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ”

¹² Now when we heard these things, both we and the local residents urged him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

¹⁴ And when he remained unpersuaded, we were silent and said, “Let the will of the Lord be done.”

¹⁵ Now after those days, having prepared, we went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Also some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us and brought with them a certain Cypriot named Mnason, a long-standing disciple, with whom we would stay as a guest.

¹⁷ And when we arrived in Jerusalem, the brothers gladly received us.

¹⁸ On the next day Paul was going in with us to James, and all the elders were present.

¹⁹ And having greeted them, he reported one by one those things which God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

²⁰ And hearing this, they were glorifying the Lord, saying to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law;

²¹ and they have been informed about you, that you are teaching defection from Moses, to all the Jews who are among the Gentiles, saying for them not to circumcise their children nor to walk in our customs.

²² What then? It is certainly necessary for an assembly to come together; for they will hear that you have come.

²³ Therefore do this, which we say to you: There are four men with us who have taken a vow upon themselves.

²⁴ Take them and purify yourself with them, and pay for them that they may have their heads shaved, and that all may know that those things of which they have been informed about you are nothing, but that you are agreeing with and keeping the law yourself.

²⁵ But as for the Gentile believers, we wrote, having judged that they should keep no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, and from anything strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

⁷ Now upon arriving in Ptolemais, the voyage from Tyre ended; so greeting the brothers we stayed with them one day.

⁸ Leaving the next day, we came to Caesarea; and entering the house of Philip the evangelist (being of ‘the Seven’), we stayed with him.

²¹ but they have been informed about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to our customs.

²² What then? The assembly will certainly gather, since they will hear that you have come.

²³ So do this that we say to you: There are four men with us who have taken a vow.

²⁴ Take them and purify yourself with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads, and that all may know that there is nothing to the things that they have been informed about you; rather that you yourself are in line, keeping the law.

²⁵ But concerning the Gentiles who believe we have written, having judged that they need observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from that offered to idols, from the blood, from anything strangled, and from fornication.”

⁴ We found the believers and stayed there for a week. Through the Holy Spirit the believers told Paul not to go to Jerusalem.

⁵ When the time was up, we left and went back to the ship to continue our journey. All the believers, and wives and children, accompanied us as we left the city. We kneeled down on the beach and prayed, and said our goodbyes.

⁶ Then we boarded the ship, and they went back home.

⁷ Our voyage from Tyre ended at Ptolemais where we greeted the believers and stayed with them for a day.

⁸ The next day we left and went to Caesarea. We stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist (one of the Seven).

⁹ Philip had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

¹⁰ After we'd stayed there for several days, a prophet called Agabus arrived from Judea.

¹¹ Approaching us, he took Paul's belt, and bound his own hands and feet. Then he said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘This is how the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt, and will hand him over to the foreigners.’”

¹² When we heard this, we and the believers there pleaded with Paul not to go to Jerusalem.

¹³ However, Paul answered, “What are you doing, crying and breaking my heart? I'm ready not only to be bound in Jerusalem, but to die in Jerusalem for the sake of the Lord Jesus.”

¹⁴ Since he couldn't be persuaded otherwise we gave up, and said, “May the Lord's will be done.”

¹⁵ After this we packed our bags and headed for Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Some of the believers from Caesarea came with us, and they took us to the home of Mnason, where we were going to stay. He came from Cyprus and was one of the early believers.

¹⁷ When we arrived in Jerusalem, the believers there welcomed us warmly.

¹⁸ The next day Paul went with us to see James, and all the church leaders were there.

¹⁹ After greeting them, Paul went through in detail everything God had done for the foreigners through his ministry.

²⁰ When they heard what had happened they praised God and told Paul, “Brother, you can see how many thousands of Jews have come to trust in the Lord, and they all keep the Law very carefully.

²¹ They have been told that you teach Jews living among the foreigners to ignore the Law of Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children and not to follow our customs.

²² So what should we do about it? People will certainly get to hear that you've arrived here.

²³ This is what we want you to do: Four men among us have taken a vow.

²⁴ Go with them and perform the purification rituals with them, paying for them to have their heads shaved. That way everyone will know there's no truth to the rumors they've heard about you, but that you yourself observe the Law in the way that you live.

²⁵ As to the foreigners who have trusted the Lord, we already wrote a letter regarding our decision that they should refrain from eating food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from any animal that is strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

⁴ And when we had found disciples, we taried there seuen dayes. And they told Paul through the Spirit, that he should not goe vp to Hierusalem.

⁵ But when the dayes were ended, we departed and went our way, and they all accompanied vs with their wiues and children, euen out of the citie: and we kneeling downe on the shore, prayed.

⁶ Then when we had embraced one another, we tooke ship, and they returned home.

⁷ And when we had ended the course from Tyrus, we arriued at Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

¹⁴ So, as he would not be persuaded, we said no more to him, only adding — “The Lord's will be done.”

¹⁵ At the end of our visit, we made our preparations, and started on our way up to Jerusalem.

⁴ We went ashore at Tyre and found the Christians there, and stayed with them for 7 days. God’s Holy Spirit told those Christians to tell Paul, “Don’t go to Jerusalem.”

⁵ The ship workers finished unloading the ship, and then it was time for it to leave, so we went back to the sea shore. All the Christian men and their wives and kids went with us to the ship. We all got down on our knees there on the sand, to show respect to God, and we prayed.

⁶ After that we all said goodbye, then Paul and his friends got on the ship, and the other Christians went back to their homes.

⁷ We left Tyre on that ship and went to a town called Ptolemais. There were Christians in that town too, so we went and said hello to them, and we stayed with them that night.

⁸ The next day we left Ptolemais and sailed to the town called Caesarea. We left the ship there and went to Philip’s place, and we stayed with him. He was a man that was always telling other people the way to become followers of Jesus. (A few years before this the Christians in Jerusalem picked 7 men to take care of the Christian widows, and Philip was one of those men.

⁹ He had 4 daughters that were not married. Each of them had power from the Holy Spirit to tell God’s special messages to people.)

¹⁰ A few days later, a Christian called Agabus came to Caesarea from Judea country. He had power from the Holy Spirit to tell God’s special messages to people.

¹¹ He came to us, and he took off Paul’s belt. Then he tied his own feet and hands with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says this, ‘See this man that owns this belt. The Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will tie him up, just like this, and they will give him as a prisoner to the people that are not Jews.’”

¹² The rest of us heard him say that, then we all talked really strongly to Paul. We said, “Please don’t go to Jerusalem.”

¹³ But Paul said, “Hey, stop crying and trying to make me change my mind. Stop telling me not to go to Jerusalem. I work for our leader Jesus, so I’m happy for people to put me in prison in Jerusalem, and I’m even happy for them to kill me.”

¹⁴ We tried to tell Paul not to go to Jerusalem, but he wouldn’t listen to us, so we stopped trying to tell him. We just said, “All right, we will be happy for our leader, Jesus, to do whatever he wants to do.”

¹⁵ After a few days we got ready and left Caesarea, and we went to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Some of the Christians from Caesarea went with us too. They took us to stay in the house of a man called Mnason. He was from Cyprus Island. He was a Christian for a long time. He became a Christian when people were first starting to hear the message about Jesus.

¹⁷ After we arrived in Jerusalem the Christians there were happy to see us and say hello to us.

¹⁸ The next day Paul went to talk with a Christian leader called James, and we went with him. All of the other Christian leaders in Jerusalem were there too.

¹⁹ Paul said hello to them, and then he told them about all of the things that God helped him do in the countries of the people that are not Jews.

²⁰ After they heard his story, James and the other leaders said, “Thank you God. You are great.” Then they said to Paul, “Listen, Brother, there are thousands of Jewish people here that believe in Jesus, and they are very careful to do everything in the law that Moses gave us.

²¹ But we have heard people say that you tell the Jewish Christians in those other countries to stop following our law. Those people reckon you tell Jewish people not to do a young man operation on their sons, and they reckon you tell Jewish people to stop doing other things from our culture. We know their story isn’t true,

²² but some of the other Jewish people here believe that story about you. They will hear that you came here, and they might be upset with you. So, you need to do something to show everyone that the story they heard about you is not true.

²³ So listen. Do this to show everyone that the story they tell about you is not true. You see, there are 4 men among us that have promised something to God, so they have to buy things to do a ceremony to make themselves clean.

²⁴ So you join those men and go with them to God’s ceremony house, and do that ceremony with them, and pay for the things they buy. Then they can shave their heads. That’s our culture to show that they have done everything they promised to do. And the people will see you do all that with those men at the temple, and they will know that the things people told them about you are not true, and they will know that you do everything in our Jewish law and culture.

²⁵ We leaders know that the Christians that are not Jews don’t have to do everything in our Jewish law, and we wrote them a letter, and we told them, – Don’t eat meat that people gave to a statue they reckoned was a god. – And don’t eat blood. – And if somebody held an animal’s neck to kill it, don’t eat meat from that animal. – And don’t sleep with people that you are not married to, as if they are they are your wives or husbands. That’s what we wrote in our letter.”

⁴ And when we had founde brethren we taryed there .vii. dayes. And they tolde Paul thorowe the sprete that he shuld not goo vp to Ierusalem.

⁵ And when the dayes were ended we departed and went oure wayes and they all brought vs on oure waye with their wyves and chyldren tyll we were come out of the cyte. And we kneled doune in the shore and prayde.

⁶ And when we had taken oure leave one of another we toke shyppe and they returned home agayne.

⁷ When we had full ended the course from Tyre we aryved at Ptolomaida and saluted the brethren and abode with the one daye.

⁸ The nexte daye we that were of Pauls company departed and came vnto Cesarea. And we entred into the housse of Philip the Evagelist which was one of the seve deacones and abode with him.

⁹ The same man had fower doughters virges which dyd prophesy.

¹⁰ And as we taried there a good many dayes there came a certayne prophete from Iurie named Agabus.

¹¹ When he was come vnto vs he toke Pauls gerdell and bounde his hondes and fete and sayde: thus saith the holy goost: so shall the Iewes at Ierusalem bynde the man that oweth this gerdell and shall delyver him into the hondes of the gentyls.

¹² When we hearde this both we and other of the same place besought him that he wolde not goo vp to Ierusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered and sayde: what do ye wepynge and breakinge myne hert? I am redy not to be bound only but also to dye at Ierusalem for the name of the Lorde Iesu.

¹⁴ When we coulde not turne his mynde we ceased sayinge: the will of the Lorde be fulfilled.

¹⁵ After those dayes we made oure selfes redy and went vp to Ierusalem.

¹⁶ There went with vs also certayne of his disciples of Cesarea and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus an olde disciple with whom we shuld lodge.

¹⁷ And when we were come to Ierusalem the brethren receaved vs gladly.

¹⁸ And on the morowe Paul wet in with vs vnto Iames. And all the elders came to geder.

¹⁹ And when he had saluted them he tolde by order all thinges that God had wrought amonge the getyls by his ministracion.

²⁰ And when they hearde it they glorified the Lorde and sayde vnto him: thou seist brother how many thousande Iewes ther are which beleve and they are all zelous over the lawe.

²¹ And they are informed of the that thou teachest all the Iewes which are amonge the gentyls to forsake Moses and sayst that they ought not to circumcise their chyldren nether to live after the customes.

²² What is it therfore? The multitude must nedes come togeder. For they shall heare that thou arte come.

²³ Do therfore this that we saye to the. We have .iiii. men which have a vowe on them.

²⁴ Them take and purifye thy selfe with them and do cost on them that they maye shave their heeddes and all shall knowe that tho thinges which they have hearde concerninge the are nothinge: but that thou thy selfe also walkest and kepest the lawe.

²⁵ For as touchinge the gentyls which beleve we have written and concluded that they observe no soche thinges: but that they kepe them selves from thinges offred to ydoles from bloud from strangled and from fornicacion.

⁴ After we found the disciples, we stayed there seven days. Through the Spirit they kept urging Paul not to go to Jerusalem.

⁵ When our days there were over, we left and went on our way, and they all, with their wives and children, accompanied out of the city. Then we knelt down on the beach, prayed,

⁶ and said farewell to each other. Then we went on board the ship, and they returned home.

⁷ When we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais. There we greeted the brothers and stayed with them for one day.

⁸ On the next day we left and went to Caesarea. We entered the house of Philip, the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and we stayed with him.

⁹ Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.

¹⁰ As we stayed there for some days, there came down from Judea a certain prophet named Agabus.

¹¹ He came to us and took Paul's belt. With it he tied his own feet and hands and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, 'So shall the Jews in Jerusalem tie up the man who owns this belt, and they will hand him over into the hands of the Gentiles.'”

¹² When we heard these things, both we and the people who lived in that place begged Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready, not only to be tied up, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

¹⁴ Since Paul did not wish to be persuaded, we stopped trying and said, “May the will of the Lord be done.”

¹⁵ After these days, we picked up our bags and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ There also went with us some of the disciples from Caesarea. They brought with them a man named Mnason, a man from Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we would stay.

¹⁷ When we had arrived in Jerusalem, the brothers welcomed us gladly.

¹⁸ The next day Paul went with us to James, and all the elders were present.

¹⁹ When he had greeted them, he reported one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

²⁰ When they heard it, they praised God, and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands have believed among the Jews. They are all determined to keep the law.

²¹ They have been told about you, that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to abandon Moses, and that you tell them not to circumcise their children, and not to follow the old customs.

²² What should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come.

²³ So do what we say to you. We have four men who made a vow.

²⁴ Take these men and purify yourself with them, and pay their expenses for them, so that they may shave their heads. So everyone will know that the things they have been told about you are false. They will learn that you also follow the law.

²⁵ But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote and gave the instructions that they should keep themselves from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from what is strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

⁴ Having found disciples, we stayed there seven days. These said to Paul through the Spirit that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

⁹ And to him were four daughters, virgins, that prophesied.

¹⁰ And when we dwelled there some days, a prophet, Agabus by name, came over from Judea.

¹¹ This when he came to us, took the girdle of Paul, and bound together his feet and hands, and said, The Holy Ghost saith these things, Thus the Jews shall bind in Jerusalem the man, whose is this girdle; and they shall betake him into heathen men’s hands.

¹² Which thing when we heard, we prayed, and they that were of that place, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Paul answered, and said, What do ye, weeping and tormenting mine heart? For I am ready, not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴ And when we might not counsel him, we were still, and said, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁵ And after these days we were made ready, and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And some of the disciples came with us from Caesarea, and led with them a man, Jason of Cyprus, an old disciple, at whom we should be harboured.

¹⁷ And when we came to Jerusalem, brethren received us willfully.

¹⁸ And in the day pursuing, Paul entered with us to James, and all the elder men were gathered.

¹⁹ Which when he had greeted, he told by all things, what things God had done in heathen men, by the ministry of him.

²⁰ And when they heard, they mag-nified God, and said to him, Brother, thou seest how many thousands be in Jews, that have believed to God, and all be lovers or pursuers of the law.

²¹ And they heard of thee, that thou teachest departing from Moses of those Jews that be by heathen men, that say, that they owe not to circumcise their sons, neither owe to enter by or after custom.

²² Therefore what is this? It behooveth that the multitude come together; for they shall hear, that thou art come.

²³ Therefore do thou this thing, that we say to thee. There be to us four men, that have a vow on them.

²⁴ Take thou these men, and hallow thee with them; hang on them, that they shave their heads; and that all men know, that those things that they heard of thee be false, but that thou walkest, and thyself keepest the law.

²⁵ But of these that believed of heathen men, we have written, deeming that they abstain them from thing offered to idols, and from blood, and also from strangled thing, and from fornication.

⁴ And when we found (some) disciples, we dwelled there seven days; which said by (the Holy) Spirit to Paul, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

⁵ And when the days were ful filled, we went forth, and all men with wives and children led forth us without the city; and we kneeled in the sea brink, and we prayed. (And when the days were fulfilled, we went forth, and all the men with their wives and children led us outside the city; and we kneeled on the seashore, and we prayed.)

⁶ And when we had made farewell together, we went up into the ship; and they turned again into their own places (or and they returned to their own homes).

⁷ And when the ship sailing was filled from Tyre, we came down to Ptolemais, and when we had greeted well the brethren, we dwelled one day at them, (or and after we had warmly greeted the brothers, we stayed there one day with them).

⁸ And another day we went forth, and came to Caesarea. And we entered into the house of Philip (the) evangelist, that was one of the seven, and dwelled at him. (And the next day we went forth, and came to Caesarea. And we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven, and stayed with him.)

⁹ And to him were four daughters, virgins, that prophesied.

¹⁰ And when we dwelled there some days, a prophet, Agabus by name, came over from Judea.

¹¹ This (man) when he came to us, took (hold of) the girdle of Paul, and bound together his feet and hands, and said, The Holy Ghost saith these things, Thus the Jews shall bind in Jerusalem the man, whose is this girdle; and they shall betake him into heathen men’s hands. (And when he came to us, he took hold of Paul’s belt, and then bound up his own hands and feet with it, and said, The Holy Spirit saith these things, Thus shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind the man, whose belt this is; and they shall deliverhim into the hands of the Gentiles.)

¹² Which thing when we heard, we prayed, and they that were of that place, that he should not go up to Jerusalem (or that he would not go up to Jerusalem).

¹³ Then Paul answered, and said, What do ye, weeping and tormenting mine heart? (or Why be ye weeping, and tormenting my heart so?) For I am ready, not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴ And when we might not counsel him, we were still, and said, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁵ And after these days we were made ready, and went up to Jerusalem. Soothly after these days we made ready, ascended (or went up) to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And some of the disciples came with us from Caesarea, and led with them a man, Jason of Cyprus, an old disciple, at whom we should be harboured.

¹⁷ And when we came to Jerusalem, brethren received us willfully. (And when we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers willingly, or gladly, received us.)

¹⁸ And in the day (pur)suing, Paul entered with us to James, and all the elder men were gathered (there). (And on the following day, Paul came with us to James, and all the elders were gathered there.)

¹⁹ Which when he had greeted (them), he told by all things, what things God had done in heathen men, by the ministry of him. (And when he had greeted them, he told them everything that God had done among the Gentiles, through his ministry.)

²⁰ And when they heard, they magnified God, and said to him, Brother, thou seest how many thousands be in (the) Jews, that have believed to God, and all be lovers or (pur)suers of the law (or and all of them be ardent followers of the Law).

²¹ And they heard of thee, that thou teachest departing from Moses of those Jews that be by heathen men, that say, that they owe not to circumcise their sons, neither owe to enter by or after custom. (But they have heard about thee, that thou teachest going away from Moses for those Jews who live among the Gentiles, and say, that they ought not to circumcise their sons, nor ought to go after, or to follow, our customs.)

²² Therefore what is this? (or And so what is it?) It behooveth that the multitude come together; for they shall hear, that thou art come (here).

²³ Therefore do thou this thing, that we say to thee. There be to us four men, that have a vow on them.

²⁴ Take thou these men, and hallow thee with them; hang on them, that they shave their heads; and that all men know, that those things that they heard of thee be false, but that thou walkest, and thyself keepest the law. (Take these men, and purify thyself, along with them; yea, hang on them, so that they shave their heads; and so that all men know, that those things that they have heard about thee be false, and that thou walkest in, and thou obeyest, the Law.)

²⁵ But of these that believed of heathen men (or But to those who believe among the Gentiles), we have written, deeming that they abstain them(selves) from thing(s) offered to idols, and from blood, and also from strangled thing(s), and from fornication.

⁴ And having found out the disciples, we tarried there seven days, and they said to Paul, through the Spirit, not to go up to Jerusalem;

⁵ but when it came that we completed the days, having gone forth, we went on, all bringing us on the way, with women and children, unto the outside of the city, and having bowed the knees upon the shore, we prayed,

⁶ and having embraced one another, we embarked in the ship, and they returned to their own friends.

⁷ And we, having finished the course, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them;

⁸ and on the morrow Paul and his company having gone forth, we came to Caesarea, and having entered into the house of Philip the evangelist — who is of the seven — we remained with him,

⁹ and this one had four daughters, virgins, prophesying.

¹⁰ And we remaining many more days, there came down a certain one from Judea, a prophet, by name Agabus,

¹¹ and he having come unto us, and having taken up the girdle of Paul, having bound also his own hands and feet, said, 'Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose is this girdle — so shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind, and they shall deliver him up to the hands of nations.'

¹² And when we heard these things, we called upon him — both we, and those of that place — not to go up to Jerusalem,

¹³ and Paul answered, 'What do ye — weeping, and crushing mine heart? for I, not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem, am ready, for the name of the Lord Jesus;'

¹⁴ and he not being persuaded, we were silent, saying, 'The will of the Lord be done.'

¹⁵ And after these days, having taken our vessels, we were going up to Jerusalem,

¹⁶ and there went also of the disciples from Caesarea with us, bringing with them him with whom we may lodge, a certain Mnason of Cyprus, an aged disciple.

¹⁷ And we having come to Jerusalem, the brethren did gladly receive us,

¹⁸ and on the morrow Paul was going in with us unto James, all the elders also came,

¹⁹ and having saluted them, he was declaring, one by one, each of the things God did among the nations through his ministration,

²⁰ and they having heard, were glorifying the Lord. They said also to him, 'Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law,

²¹ and they are instructed concerning thee, that apostasy from Moses thou dost teach to all Jews among the nations, saying — Not to circumcise the children, nor after the customs to walk;

²² what then is it? certainly the multitude it behoveth to come together, for they will hear that thou hast come.

²³ 'This, therefore, do that we say to thee: We have four men having a vow on themselves,

²⁴ these having taken, be purified with them, and be at expence with them, that they may shave the head, and all may know that the things of which they have been instructed concerning thee are nothing, but thou dost walk — thyself also — the law keeping.

²⁵ 'And concerning those of the nations who have believed, we have written, having given judgment, that they observe no such thing, except to keep themselves both from idol-sacrifices, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom.'
