¹⁰ And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold two men stood by them in white apparel;

¹¹ who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.

¹² Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey off.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphæus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

¹⁴ These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹⁵ And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons gathered together, about a hundred and twenty),

¹⁶ Brethren, it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

¹⁷ For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry.

¹⁸ (Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

¹⁹ And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.

²¹ Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.

²³ And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,

²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.

²⁶ And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

¹¹ Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

¹² Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

¹⁴ These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹⁵ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

¹⁶ Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

¹⁷ For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

¹⁸ Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

¹⁹ And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

²¹ Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

²² Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

²³ And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

²⁵ That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

²⁶ And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

¹⁰ While the apostles were still staring towards the sky as he was going up, suddenly two men who were wearing white clothes stood beside them. They were angels.

¹¹ One of them said, “You men from Galilee district, ◄you do not need to stand here any longer looking up at the sky!/why do you still stand here looking up at the sky?► RHQ Some day this same Jesus, whom God took from you up to heaven, will come back to earth. He will return in the same manner as you just now saw him when he went up to heaven, but he will not return now.”

¹² Then after the two angels left, the apostles returned to Jerusalem from Olive Tree Hill, which was about ◄a half mile/one kilometer► MTY from Jerusalem.

¹³ When they entered the city, they went upstairs to the room in the house where they were staying. Those who were there included Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, another James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who belonged to the group that wanted to expel the Romans, and Judas the son of another man named James.

¹⁴ All these apostles agreed concerning the things about which they continually were praying together. Others who prayed with them included the women who had accompanied Jesus, Mary who was Jesus' mother, and his younger brothers.

¹⁵ During those days Peter stood up among his fellow believers. There were at that place a group of about 120 of Jesus' followers. Peter said,

¹⁶ “My fellow believers, there are words that King David wrote MTY in the Scriptures long ago that needed to be fulfilled {to happen as he said they would}. The Holy Spirit, who knew that Judas would be the one who would fulfill those words, told David what to write.

¹⁷ Although Judas had been chosen { Jesus had chosen Judas}, along with the rest of us (exc) to serve as an apostle, Judas was the person who led to Jesus the people who seized him.”

¹⁸ The Jewish leaders gave Judas money when he promised to treacherously/wickedly betray Jesus. Later Judas returned that money to them. When Judas hanged himself, his body fell down to the ground. His abdomen burst open, and all his intestines spilled out. So the Jewish leaders bought a field using that money.

¹⁹ All the people who reside in Jerusalem heard about that, so they called that field in their own Aramaic language, Akeldama, which means ❛Field of Blood❜, because it was where someone bled and died.

²⁰ Peter also said, “ I perceive that what happened to Judas is like what the writer of Psalms desired to happen: ‘May his house become deserted, and may there be no one to live in it.’ (OR, ‘ Judge him, Lord, so that neither he nor anyone else may live in his house!)’ And it seems that these other words that David wrote also refer to Judas: ‘Let someone else take over his work as a leader.’”

²¹ “So it is necessary for us apostles to choose a man to replace Judas. He must be one who accompanied MTY us all the time when the Lord Jesus was with us.

²² That would be from the time when John the Baptizer baptized Jesus until the day when Jesus was taken {when God took Jesus} from us up to heaven. He must be one who saw Jesus alive again after he died.”

²³ So the apostles and other believers suggested the names of two men who qualified. One man was Joseph, who was called {whom people called} Barsabbas (OR, Joseph Barsabbas) who also had the Roman name Justus. The other man was Matthias.

²⁴ Then they prayed like this: “Lord Jesus, Judas stopped being an apostle. He died and went to the place where he deserved to be EUP. So we(exc) need to choose someone to replace Judas in order that he can serve you(sg) by becoming an apostle. You (sg) know what everyone is really like. So please show us which of these two men you have chosen.”

²⁶ Then they cast lots to choose between the two of them, and the lot fell for Matthias. (OR, Then one of the apostles shook in a container small objects/stones that they had marked to determine which man God had chosen. And the small object/stone that they had marked for Matthias fell out of the container). So Matthias was considered {they considered Matthias} to be an apostle along with the other eleven apostles.

¹⁰ While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,

¹¹ who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

¹³ When they had come in, they went up into the upper room where they were staying, that is Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

¹⁰ And while they were looking up to heaven with great attention, two men came to them, in white clothing,

¹¹ And said, O men of Galilee, why are you looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come again, in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.

¹² Then they went back to Jerusalem from the mountain named Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away.

¹³ And when they came in, they went up into the room where they were living; Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James, the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas, the son of James.

¹⁴ And they all with one mind gave themselves up to prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

¹⁵ And in those days Peter got up among the brothers (there were about one hundred and twenty of them), and said,

¹⁶ My brothers, the word of God had to be put into effect, which the Holy Spirit had said before, by the mouth of David, about Judas, who was guide to those who took Jesus,

¹⁷ For he was numbered among us, and had his part in our work.

¹⁸ (Now this man, with the reward of his evil-doing, got for himself a field, and falling head first, came to a sudden and violent end there.

¹⁹ And this came to the knowledge of all those who were living in Jerusalem, so that the field was named in their language, Akel-dama, or, The field of blood.)

²⁰ For in the book of Psalms it says, Let his house be waste, and let no man be living in it: and, Let his position be taken by another.

²¹ For this reason, of the men who have been with us all the time, while the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

²² Starting from the baptism of John till he went up from us, one will have to be a witness with us of his coming back from death.

²³ And they made selection of two, Joseph, named Barsabbas, whose other name was Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And they made prayers and said, Lord, having knowledge of the hearts of all men, make clear which of these two has been marked out by you,

²⁵ To take that position as a servant and Apostle, from which Judas by his sin was shut out, so that he might go to his place.

²⁶ And they put it to the decision of chance, and the decision was given for Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven Apostles.

¹⁰ And as they were gazing into heaven, as he was going, behold, also two men stood by them in white clothing,

¹¹ who also said, Men of Galilee, why do ye stand looking into heaven? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven, shall thus come in the manner in which ye have beheld him going into heaven.

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called the mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath-day's journey off.

¹³ And when they were come into the city, they went up to the upper chamber, where were staying both Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the zealot, and Jude the brother of James.

¹⁴ These gave themselves all with one accord to continual prayer, with several women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹⁵ And in those days Peter, standing up in the midst of the brethren, said, (the crowd of names who were together was about a hundred and twenty,)

¹⁶ Brethren, it was necessary that the scripture should have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before, by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus;

¹⁷ for he was numbered amongst us, and had received a part in this service.

¹⁸ (This man then indeed got a field with the reward of iniquity, and, having fallen down headlong, burst in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

¹⁹ And it was known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that that field was called in their own dialect Aceldama; that is, field of blood.)

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his homestead become desolate, and let there be no dweller in it; and, Let another take his overseership.

²¹ It is necessary therefore, that of the men who have assembled with us all the time in which the Lord Jesus came in and went out among us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which he was taken up from us, one of these should be a witness with us of his resurrection.

²³ And they appointed two, Joseph, who was called Barsabas, who had been surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, Thou Lord, knower of the hearts of all, shew which one of these two thou hast chosen,

²⁵ to receive the lot of this service and apostleship, from which Judas transgressing fell to go to his own place.

¹⁷ Who was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

¹⁸ And he indeed hath possessed a field of the reward of iniquity, and being hanged, burst asunder in the midst: and all his bowels gushed out.

¹¹ who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you watched Him go into heaven.”

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.

¹³ And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying; both Peter and James and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

¹⁴ These were continuing with one mind in prayer and petition, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

¹⁵ And in those days Peter, rising up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), said,

¹⁶ “Men and brothers; it was necessary for this Scripture to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;

¹⁷ ‘for he was numbered with us and obtained a portion in this ministry.’ ”

¹⁸ (Now this man purchased a field by means of the wages of his iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

¹⁹ And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood).

²⁰ “For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let his homestead become desolate, and let no one dwell in it’; and, ‘May another take his office of overseer.’

²¹ Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us in every time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

²³ And they nominated two: Joseph who is called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And they prayed and said, “You, O Lord, knower of all hearts, show whom You have chosen of these two

²⁵ to receive a portion in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

²⁶ And they cast their lots. And the lot fell on Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

¹⁰ And as they were staring into the sky, while He was going, suddenly two men in white clothing stood beside them;

¹¹ and they said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into the sky? This very Jesus who is being taken up from you into the sky, He will come again in the precise manner that you observed Him going into the sky.”

¹² They then returned to Jerusalem from the mount called ‘of Olives’, which is near Jerusalem (a Sabbath day's journey).

¹³ When they had entered the city they went up into the upper room where they were staying: namely Peter and James, John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas of James.

¹⁴ All these were continuing with one purpose in prayer and petition, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

¹⁵ Well in those days Peter stood up in the middle of the disciples (the number of people assembled there was about 120) and said:

¹⁶ “Men, brothers: It was necessary that this Scripture be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by David's mouth concerning Judas, who was guide to those who arrested Jesus;

¹⁷ in that he was numbered with us and obtained his share in this ministry.”

¹⁸ (In fact this man acquired a field with the wages of his wickedness, and falling headlong he burst open in the middle, and all his innards were spilled out.

¹⁹ And it became known to all who lived in Jerusalem, so that in their own language that field came to be called ‘Akeldama’, that is, ‘Field of Blood’.)

²⁰ “Because it stands written in Book of Psalms: ‘Let his residence become desolate, and may no one live in it’ and, ‘Let another take his office.’

²¹ So then, of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day when He was taken up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

²³ So they nominated two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And praying they said: “You, Lord, Knower of all hearts, show which one of these two You have chosen

²⁵ to receive the portion of this ministry and apostleship, out of which Judas turned aside to go into his own place.”

²⁶ And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven Apostles.

¹⁰ While they were staring intently at the sky as he ascended, two men dressed in white were suddenly standing beside them.

¹¹ “Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky?” they asked. “This same Jesus who has been taken up from you to heaven shall come in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”

¹² Then the disciples went back to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives which is about a Sabbath day's walk from Jerusalem.

¹³ When they arrived, they went upstairs to the upper room where they were staying: Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

¹⁴ They all joined together in prayer, together with the women and Mary, Jesus' mother, and his brothers.

¹⁵ At this time Peter stood up and addressed a crowd of around one hundred and twenty believers who had gathered together.

¹⁶ “My brothers and sisters,” he said, “The Scriptures, spoken by the Holy Spirit through David, had to be fulfilled regarding Judas, who guided those who arrested Jesus.

¹⁷ He was counted as one of us, and shared in this ministry.”

¹⁸ (Judas had bought a field with his ill-gotten gains. There he fell down headfirst, and his body burst apart, spilling out all his intestines.

¹⁹ Everybody who lived in Jerusalem heard about this so that the field was called in their language “Akeldama,” which means, “Field of blood.”)

²⁰ As it's written in the book of Psalms, “Let his home be abandoned, and no-one live there;” and “Let someone else take over his position.”

²¹ “So now we have to choose someone who has been with us the whole time that Jesus was with us,

²² from the time John was baptizing up until the day Jesus was taken up to heaven from us. One of these must be chosen to join together with us as we witness, giving evidence of Jesus' resurrection.”

²³ Two names were put forward: Joseph Justus, also known as Barsabbas, and Matthias.

²⁴ They prayed together and said, “Lord, you know everyone's thoughts please show us which of these two you have chosen

²⁵ to replace Judas as an apostle in this ministry that he gave up to go to where he belongs.”

²⁶ They cast lots, and Matthias was chosen. He was counted as an apostle with the other eleven.

¹¹ Which also sayde, Yee men of Galile, why stande yee gasing into heauen? This Iesus which is taken vp from you into heauen, shall so come, as yee haue seene him goe into heauen.

¹² Then returned they vnto Hierusalem from the mount that is called the mount of Oliues, which is neere to Hierusalem, being from it a Sabbath daies iourney.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went vp into an vpper chamber, where abode both Peter and Iames, and Iohn, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartlemew, and Matthewe, Iames the sonne of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Iudas Iames brother.

¹⁵ And in those dayes Peter stoode vp in the middes of the disciples, and sayde (nowe the nomber of names that were in one place were about an hundreth and twentie.)

¹⁶ Yee men and brethren, this scripture must needes haue beene fulfilled, which the holy Ghost by the mouth of Dauid spake before of Iudas, which was guide to them that tooke Iesus.

¹⁷ For hee was nombred with vs, and had obteined fellowship in this ministration.

¹² Then Jesus’s followers left that place, the hill called Olive Trees, and they walked about a kilometre back

¹³ to Jerusalem, and then they went upstairs to the room where they were living. These were the close followers that came back from Olive Trees Hill – Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (his father was called Alphaeus), Simon (he used to be one of the mob that wanted to fight the Roman people), and Judas (his father was called James).

¹⁴ All these men met every day to pray together. Some women met with them too. One of those women was Mary, the mother of Jesus. And his brothers came to pray with them too.

¹⁵ After a few days these people that believed in Jesus had a meeting. There were about 120 people in that meeting. Peter stood up and talked to them.

¹⁶ He said, “Listen, friends, a long time ago the Holy Spirit talked to David about Judas, the son of Iscariot. David wrote the story in God’s book, and now that story has come true. Judas used to be with us and he worked with us. He was one of us close followers of Jesus. But the Jewish leaders paid Judas to take a mob of bad men to catch Jesus.

¹⁸ After that the Jewish leaders used that same money to buy some farm land. Judas fell down in that place and his belly split open, and all his guts fell out, and he died.

¹⁹ Everybody that lived in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that place Akeldama in their language. That means the Farm Land of Blood.”

²⁰ Peter kept on talking, he said, “God’s man called David wrote about Judas a long time ago, and it is in God’s book, in the part called Psalms. He wrote, ‘Empty out his house, God, and let nobody else live in it.’ And he also wrote, ‘Let somebody else have his job.’”

²¹ And Peter said, “So now we need to pick somebody else to be one of us 12 close followers, that have that job. He will help us tell people the true story, that Jesus is alive. Yes, Jesus died, but then God made him alive again. The man we pick has to be one of the men that went around with our leader Jesus here, and he has to be one that was with us all those 3 years, from the time that John baptised Jesus, right up to the time that God took Jesus up into heaven.”

²³ So they all talked together and found 2 men that did all those things. One man was Joseph Barsabbas. He also had another name, Justus. The other man was called Matthias.

²⁴ Then the close followers of Jesus prayed. They said, “Judas left his job, and went his own way, and now he is dead. He went to that bad place. And God, you really know everyone, and you know the way they are thinking. Please show us the man that you want to take the place of Judas, to do his job, and to be a close follower of Jesus.”

²⁶ So the close followers put the names of the 2 men into a jar and one man shook it. Then he closed his eyes and took out one of those names. That name was Matthias. So Matthias joined the 11 close followers, to work with them.

¹⁰ And while they looked stedfastly vp to heaven as he went beholde two men stode by them in white apparell

¹⁴ These all continued with one acorde in prayer and supplicacion with the wemen and Mary the mother of Iesu and with his brethren.

¹⁵ And in those dayes Peter stode vp in the myddes of the disciples and sayde (the noumbre of names that were to gether were aboute an hondred and twenty)

¹⁶ Ye men and brethren this scripture must have nedes ben fulfilled which the holy goost thorow the mouth of David spake before of Iudas which was gyde to them that tooke Iesus.

¹⁷ For he was noubred with vs and had obtayned fellouship in this ministracion.

¹⁸ And the same hath now possessed a plot of grounde with the rewarde of iniquite and when he was hanged brast a sondre in the myddes and all his bowels gusshed oute.

¹⁹ And it is knowe vnto all the inhabiters of Ierusalem: in so moche that that felde is called in their mother tonge Acheldama that is to saye the bloud felde.

²⁰ It is written in the boke of Psalmes: His habitacion be voyde and no man be dwellinge therin: and his bisshoprycke let another take.

¹⁸ Now this man obtained a field with the reward for his wickedness; and falling headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines gushed out.

¹⁹ It became known to everyone who lived in Jerusalem that in their language that field was called ‘Akeldama,’ that is, ‘The field of blood.’

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his habitation be made desolate. Let no one dwell in it;’ and, ‘Let another take his office.’

²¹ “Of the men therefore who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out amongst us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John to the day that he was received up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

²³ They put forward two: Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ They prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen

²⁵ to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.”

²⁶ They drew lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was counted with the eleven apostles.

¹⁰ And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

¹¹ Who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus who is taken from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

¹³ And when they had come in, they went into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

¹⁴ These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹⁵ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said (the number of the names together were about a hundred and twenty,)

¹⁶ Men, brethren, This scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

¹⁷ For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

¹⁹ And it was known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; so that that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

¹³ And when they were entered into the house, where they dwelled, they went up into the solar, or into the higher things, Peter and John, and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas of James.

¹⁴ All these were lastingly continuing or dwelling together with one will, in prayer, with women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹⁵ In those days Peter rose up in the middle of the brethren, and said; and there was a company of men together, almost an hundred and twenty;

¹⁶ Brethren, it behooveth that the scripture be ful filled, which the Holy Ghost before-said by the mouth of David, of Judas that was leader of them that took Jesus;

¹⁷ and was numbered among us, and got a part of this service or this ministry.

¹⁸ And this Judas had a field of the hire of wickedness, and he was hanged, and burst apart the middle, and all his entrails were shed abroad.

¹⁹ And it was made known to all men that dwelt in Jerusalem, so that that field was called Aceldama in the language of them, that is, the field of blood.

¹⁰ And when they beheld him going into heaven (or And after they saw him go up into the heavens), lo! two men stood beside them in white clothing,

¹¹ and said, Men of Galilee, what stand ye beholding into heaven? This Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall come (back), as ye saw him going into heaven. (and said, Men of Galilee, why stand ye looking up into the heavens? This Jesus, who is taken up from you to heaven, shall come back, as ye saw him going to heaven.)

¹⁸ And this Judas had a field of the hire of wickedness, and he was hanged, and burst apart the middle, and all his entrails were shed abroad. (And this Judas bought a field with his wicked wages, and he hanged himself, and fell to the ground, and burst open his middle, and all his bowels, or all his innards, were poured out.)

¹⁶ 'Men, brethren, it behoved this Writing that it be fulfilled that beforehand the Holy Spirit spake through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus,

¹⁷ because he was numbered among us, and did receive the share in this ministration,

¹⁸ this one, indeed, then, purchased a field out of the reward of unrighteousness, and falling headlong, burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed forth,

¹⁹ and it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem, insomuch that that place is called, in their proper dialect, Aceldama, that is, field of blood,

²⁰ for it hath been written in the book of Psalms: Let his lodging-place become desolate, and let no one be dwelling in it, and his oversight let another take.

²¹ 'It behoveth, therefore, of the men who did go with us during all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day in which he was received up from us, one of these to become with us a witness of his rising again.'

²³ And they set two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias,

²⁴ and having prayed, they said, 'Thou, Lord, who art knowing the heart of all, shew which one thou didst choose of these two

²⁵ to receive the share of this ministration and apostleship, from which Judas, by transgression, did fall, to go on to his proper place;'

²⁶ and they gave their lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
