Acts 19:1-4 in English

¹ And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples:

² and he said unto them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said unto him, Nay, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit was given.

³ And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John’s baptism.

⁴ And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him that should come after him, that is, on Jesus.

¹ And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

² He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

³ And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

⁴ Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

¹ And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples:

¹ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul left the places in Phrygia and Galatia provinces where he had been visiting, and traveled through Asia province back to Ephesus. He met some people who said that they were believers.

² He asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed God's message?” They answered, “No, we (exc) did not. We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

³ So Paul asked, “So when you were baptized, what were you showing?” They replied, “ We were showing that we (exc) believed what John the Baptizer taught.”

⁴ Paul said, “John baptized people who turned away from their sinful behavior. He also told the people to believe in the one who would come after he had come, and that was Jesus.”

¹ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus and found certain disciples.

² He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

³ He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”

⁴ Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

² And he said to them, Did you get the Holy Spirit when you had faith? And they said to him, No, we have had no knowledge of the Holy Spirit.

³ And he said, What sort of baptism did you have? And they said, The baptism of John.

⁴ And Paul said, John gave a baptism which goes with a change of heart, saying to the people that they were to have faith in him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.

¹ And it came to pass, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper districts, came to Ephesus, and finding certain disciples,

² he said to them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye had believed? And they said to him, We did not even hear if the Holy Spirit was come.

³ And he said, To what then were ye baptised? And they said, To the baptism of John.

⁴ And Paul said, John indeed baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on him that was coming after him, that is, on Jesus.

¹ And it came to pass, while Apollo was at Corinth, that Paul having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.

² And he said to them: Have you received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? But they said to him: We have not so much as heard whether there be a Holy Ghost.

⁴ Then Paul said: John baptized the people with the baptism of penance, saying: That they should believe in him who was to come after him, that is to say, in Jesus.

¹ And it came about, while Apollos was in Corinth, that Paul, having gone through the interior regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples

² he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit, having believed?” So they said to him, “We have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

³ And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John's baptism.”

⁴ But Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Christ Jesus.”

¹ Now it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus. And finding certain disciples

² he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “But we have not so much as heard that there is a Holy Spirit!”

³ So he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John's baptism.”

⁴ So Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe into the One who would come after him, that is, into Jesus, the Christ.”

¹ While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul took the inland route and arrived in Ephesus where he found some believers.

² “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No, we haven't heard anything about a Holy Spirit,” they told him.

³ “So what baptism did you receive?” he asked. “John's baptism,” they replied.

⁴ “John baptized with the baptism of repentance,” said Paul. He told the people that they should trust in the one who would come after him—that is, they should trust in Jesus.

¹ And it came to passe, while Apollos was at Corinthus, that Paul when he passed thorow the vpper coasts, came to Ephesus, and found certaine disciples,

² And saide vnto them, Haue ye receiued the holy Ghost since ye beleeued? And they saide vnto him, Wee haue not so much as heard whether there be an holy Ghost.

³ And he said vnto them, Vnto what were ye then baptized? And they saide, Vnto Iohns baptisme.

⁴ Then saide Paul, Iohn verely baptized with the baptisme of repentance, saying vnto the people, that they shoulde beleeue in him, which should come after him, that is, in Christ Iesus.

¹ And it came to pass that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

⁴ “John's baptism was a baptism on repentance,” rejoined Paul, “and John told the people (speaking of the ‘one coming’ after him) that they should believe in him — that is in Jesus.”

¹ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland districts of Roman Asia, and went to Ephesus. There he found some disciples, of whom he asked,

² “Did you, when you became believers in Christ, receive the Holy Spirit?” “No,” they answered, “we did not even hear that there was a Holy Spirit.”

³ “What then was your baptism?” Paul asked.

⁴ “John's baptism was a baptism on repentance,” rejoined Paul, “and John told the people (speaking of the ‘one coming’ after him) that they should believe in him — that is in Jesus.”

¹ Apollos was at Corinth, and at the same time Paul was visiting places in Phrygia country and Galatia country. Then Paul left those places and went through Asia country, then he went on to the big town called Ephesus. He met some men there that reckoned they were Christians.

² Paul asked them, “Did the Holy Spirit come into you when you believed God’s message?” They said, “No, he didn’t. We don’t know anything about the Holy Spirit. We’ve never heard of him.”

³ So Paul asked them, “Who baptised you, and why did he do it?” They said, “John the Baptiser is the one that baptised us, and he did it to show we were sorry for doing wrong.”

⁴ Paul said, “John baptised people that turned away from doing bad things. But he also told the people to believe in the man that was coming after him. That man is Jesus.”

¹ It fortuned whyll Appollo was at Corinthum that Paul passed thorow the vpper costes and came to Ephesus and foude certayne disciples

² and sayd vnto them: have ye receaved the holy gost sence ye beleved? And they sayde vnto him: no we have not hearde whether ther be eny holy goost or no.

³ And he sayd vnto them: wher with were ye then baptised? And they sayd: with Iohns baptism

⁴ Then sayde Paul: Iohn verely baptised with the baptism of repentaunce sayinge vnto the people that they shuld beleve on him which shuld come after him: that is on Christ Iesus.

¹ It came about that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to the city of Ephesus, and found certain disciples there.

² Paul said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we did not even hear about the Holy Spirit.”

³ Paul said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.”

⁴ So Paul replied, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance. He told the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

⁴ Paul said, “Yochanan indeed immersed with the immersion of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Yeshua.”

¹ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus and found certain disciples.

² He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

³ He said, “Into what then were you immersed?” They said, “Into Yochanan’s immersion.”

⁴ Paul said, “Yochanan indeed immersed with the immersion of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Yeshua.”

¹ And it befell, when Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul when he had gone the higher coasts, he came to Ephesus, and found some of the disciples.

² And he said to them, Whether ye that believe have received the Holy Ghost? And they said to him, But neither have we heard or neither we have heard, if the Holy Ghost is.

³ And he said, Therefore in what thing be ye baptized? And they said, In the baptism of John.

⁴ And Paul said, John baptized the people in the baptism of penance, and taught, that they should believe in him that was to coming or to come after him, that is, in Jesus.

¹ And it befell, when Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul when he had gone (to) the higher coasts, he came to Ephesus, and found some of the disciples (there).

² And he said to them, Whether ye that believe have received the Holy Ghost? And they said to him, But neither have we heard or But neither we have heard, if the Holy Ghost is. (And he said to them, Have ye who believe received the Holy Spirit? And they said to him, None of us have heard that there is a Holy Spirit.)

³ And he said, Therefore in what thing be ye baptized? And they said, In the baptism of John.

⁴ And Paul said, John baptized the people in the baptism of penance (or John baptized the people with a baptism of repentance), and taught, that they should believe in him that was to coming after him, or and taught, that they should believe into him that was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.

¹ And it came to pass, in Apollos' being in Corinth, Paul having gone through the upper parts, came to Ephesus, and having found certain disciples,

² he said unto them, 'The Holy Spirit did ye receive — having believed?' and they said unto him, 'But we did not even hear whether there is any Holy Spirit;'

³ and he said unto them, 'To what, then, were ye baptized?' and they said, 'To John's baptism.'

⁴ And Paul said, 'John, indeed, did baptize with a baptism of reformation, saying to the people that in him who is coming after him they should believe — that is, in the Christ — Jesus;'
