22Many of the crowd joined those who were accusing Paul and Silas, and started beating them. Then the Roman authorities commanded soldiers to tear the shirts off Paul and Silas and to beat them with rods/sticks.
22A lot of other people there joined those bosses and started blaming Paul and Silas. Then the Roman bosses told their soldiers, “Rip the shirts off Paul and Silas and hit them with sticks.”
22And the people and magistrates ran against them, and when they had rent to pieces the coats of them (or and when they had torn their coats to pieces), they commanded them to be beaten with rods.
