²⁰ Now he was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: and they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king’s country.

²¹ And upon a set day Herod arrayed himself in royal apparel, and sat on the throne, and made an oration unto them.

²² And the people shouted, saying, The voice of a god, and not of a man.

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

²⁰ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

²¹ And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

²⁰ King Herod had been furiously angry with the people who lived in Tyre and Sidon cities. Then one day some men who represented them came unitedly to Caesarea in order to meet with Herod. They persuaded Blastus, who was one of Herod's important officials, to tell Herod that the people in their cities wanted to make peace with him. They wanted to be able to trade with the people that Herod ruled, because they needed to buy food from those regions. Herod had commanded the people in the areas he ruled to stop selling food to the people in those cities.

²¹ On the day that Herod had planned to meet with them, he put on ◄very expensive clothes that showed that he was king/his royal robes►. Then he sat on his ◄throne/chair from which he ruled people►, and formally addressed all the people who had gathered there.

²² Those who were listening to him shouted repeatedly, “ This man who is speaking is a god, not a man!”

²³ So, because Herod let the people praise him instead of praising God, immediately an angel from the Lord God caused Herod to become seriously ill. Many worms ate his intestines, and soon he died very painfully.

²⁰ Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him and, having made Blastus, the king’s personal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king’s country for food.

²² And the people, with loud cries, said, It is the voice of a god, not of a man.

²³ And straight away the angel of the Lord sent a disease on him, because he did not give the glory to God: and his flesh was wasted away by worms, and so he came to his end.

²⁰ And he was in bitter hostility with the Tyrians and Sidonians; but they came to him with one accord, and, having gained Blastus the king's chamberlain, sought peace, because their country was nourished by the king's.

²¹ And on a set day, clothed in royal apparel and sitting on the elevated seat of honour, Herod made a public oration to them.

²² And the people cried out, A god's voice and not a man's.

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give the glory to God, and he expired, eaten of worms.

²⁰ And he was angry with the Tyrians and the Sidonians. But they with one accord came to him, and having gained Blastus, who was the king’s chamberlain, they desired peace, because their countries were nourished by him.

²² And the people made acclamation, saying: It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

²³ And forthwith an angel of the Lord struck him, because he had not given the honour to God: and being eaten up by worms, he gave up the ghost.

²⁰ Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one purpose they came to him, and persuading Blastus, the one over the king's bedroom, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king's country.

²¹ And on an appointed day Herod, clothing himself with royal apparel, and sitting on the judgment seat, was delivering an address to them.

²² And the crowds kept calling out, “This is the voice of a god and not of a man!”

²³ Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

²⁰ Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; so they came with one accord to him, and having won over Blastus, the king's chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food from the king's.

²¹ So on an appointed day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on the throne and started to deliver an address to them.

²² But the crowd started calling out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!”

²³ Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give glory to God, and being eaten by worms, he died.

²⁰ Now Herod had become furious with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They sent a joint delegation to see him and managed to win Blastus, the king's personal assistant, over to their side. They pleaded for peace with Herod because they were dependent on the king's territory for food.

²¹ When the day came for their appointment with the king, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and gave a speech to them.

²² The audience shouted in response, “This is the voice of a god, not that of a man!”

²³ Immediately the angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory. He was consumed by worms and died.

²⁰ Then Herod was angrie with them of Tyrus and Sidon, but they came all with one accord vnto him, and perswaded Blastus the Kings Chamberlaine, and they desired peace, because their countrey was nourished by the Kings land.

²¹ And vpon a day appointed, Herod arayed himselfe in royall apparell, and sate on the iudgement seate, and made an oration vnto them.

²² And the people gaue a shoute, saying, The voyce of God, and not of man.

²³ But immediatly the Angel of the Lord smote him, because he gaue not glorie vnto God, so that he was eaten of wormes, and gaue vp the ghost.

²⁰ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

²⁰ It happened that Herod was deeply offended with the people of Tyre and Sidon, but they went in a body to him, and, having succeeded in winning over Blastus, the Chamberlain, they begged Herod for a reconciliation, because their country was dependent on the king's for its food supply.

²⁰ At that time Herod was very angry with the people that lived in the towns called Tyre and Sidon. This made a problem for those people. You see, Herod was the boss of Galilee country and those people got all their food from Galilee, and they didn’t want Herod to stop them from getting that food. So some of them went to Herod’s house to talk to him about this problem. At Herod’s house a man called Blastus was one of his important workers, so those men talked to Blastus and said, “Please help us get a chance to talk with Herod. We want to stop all this trouble.” So Blastus got Herod to agree to talk to those people, and Herod told them the day for that talk. On that day Herod put on his special clothes, and he sat in his special seat, to show everyone that he is the big boss of that country. And then he talked to all the people.

²² Those people all wanted to make him happy so they shouted, “This is not a man talking. He is a god.”

²³ Herod liked their talk. He didn’t tell them that he is only a man, and that God is the great and powerful one. So then one of God’s angels hit Herod to punish him. That angel got worms to eat the inside of Herod’s body, and he died.

²⁰ Herode was displeased with them of Tyre and Sydon. And they came all at once and made intercession vnto Blastus the kynges chamberlen and desyred peace because their countrey was norysshed by the kynges londe.

²¹ And upon a daye appoynted Herode arayed him in royall apparell and set him in his seate and made an oraycon vnto them.

²² And the people gave a shoute sayinge: it is the voyce of a God and not of a man.

²³ And immediatly the angell of the Lorde smote him because he gave not God the honoure and he was eatyn of wormes and gave vp the goost.

²⁰ Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They went to him together. They persuaded Blastus, the king's assistant, to help them. Then they asked for peace, because their country received its food from the king's country.

²⁰ And he was wroth to (the) men of Tyre and of Sidon. And they of one accord came to him, when they had counselled with Blastus, that was the king’s chamberlain, (and) they asked (for) peace, for as much as their countries (or their provinces) were victualed of him or were nourished by him.

²¹ And in a day that was ordained, Herod was clothed with king’s clothing, and sat for doomsman, and spake to them, (or and sat as judge, and spoke to them).

²² And the people cried, The voice of God, and not of man.

²³ And anon an angel of the Lord smote him, for he had not given honour to God; and he was wasted of worms, and died. (And at once an angel of the Lord struck him, for he had not given honour to God; and he was wasted by worms, and died.)

²⁰ And Herod was highly displeased with the Tyrians and Sidonians, and with one accord they came unto him, and having made a friend of Blastus, who is over the bed-chambers of the king, they were asking peace, because of their country being nourished from the king's;

²¹ and on a set day, Herod having arrayed himself in kingly apparel, and having sat down upon the tribunal, was making an oration unto them,

²² and the populace were shouting, 'The voice of a god, and not of a man;'

²³ and presently there smote him a messenger of the Lord, because he did not give the glory to God, and having been eaten of worms, he expired.
