⁷ And when the angel that spake unto him was departed, he called two of his household-servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

⁸ and having rehearsed all things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ Now on the morrow, as they were on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour:

¹⁰ and he became hungry, and desired to eat: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance;

¹¹ and he beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth:

¹² wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts and creeping things of the earth and birds of the heaven.

¹³ And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

¹⁴ But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common and unclean.

¹⁵ And a voice came unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.

¹⁶ And this was done thrice: and straightway the vessel was received up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men that were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, were lodging there.

¹⁹ And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

²⁰ But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them.

²¹ And Peter went down to the men, and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

²² And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee.

²³ So he called them in and lodged them. And on the morrow he arose and went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

²⁴ And on the morrow they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmen and his near friends.

²⁵ And when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

²⁷ And as he talked with him, he went in, and findeth many come together:

²⁸ and he said unto them, Ye yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to join himself or come unto one of another nation; and yet unto me hath God showed that I should not call any man common or unclean:

²⁹ wherefore also I came without gainsaying, when I was sent for. I ask therefore with what intent ye sent for me.

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Four days ago, until this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel,

³¹ and saith, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa, and call unto thee Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea side.

³³ Forthwith therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee of the Lord.

³⁴ And Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

³⁵ but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)—

³⁷ that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judæa, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

³⁸ even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree.

⁴⁰ Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,

⁴¹ not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴² And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins.

⁴⁴ While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word.

⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.

⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

⁹ On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

¹⁰ And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

¹¹ And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

¹² Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

¹³ And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

¹⁴ But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

¹⁵ And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

¹⁶ This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,

¹⁸ And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

¹⁹ While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

²⁰ Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

²¹ Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

²³ Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

²⁴ And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

²⁵ And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

²⁶ But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

²⁷ And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

²⁸ And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

²⁹ Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

³¹ And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

³⁵ But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

³⁶ The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

³⁷ That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

³⁸ How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

⁴⁰ Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

⁴¹ Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴² And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

⁴³ To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

⁴⁴ While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

⁷ When the angel who spoke to Cornelius had gone, Cornelius summoned two of his household servants and a soldier who served him, one who also worshipped God.

⁸ He explained to them everything that the angel had said. Then he told them to go to Joppa to ask Peter to come to Caesarea.

⁹ About noon the next day those three men were traveling along the road and were coming near Joppa. As they were approaching Joppa, Peter went up on the flat housetop to pray.

¹⁰ He became hungry and wanted something to eat. While someone was preparing the food, Peter saw this vision:

¹¹ ◄He saw heaven open/He saw an opening in the sky► and something like a large sheet was being lowered to the ground. It was tied at its four corners with ropes.

¹² Inside the sheet were all kinds of creatures. These included animals and birds that the Mosaic laws forbade Jews to eat. Some had four feet, others crawled on the ground, and others were wild birds.

¹³ Then he heard God SYN say to him, “Peter, stand up, kill and cook some of these and eat their meat!”

¹⁴ But Peter replied, “Lord, surely you (sg) do not really want me to do that! I have never eaten any meat that our Jewish law says is unacceptable to God or something that we(exc) must not eat!”

¹⁵ Then Peter heard MTY God talk to him a second time. He said, “ I am God, so if I have made something acceptable to eat, do not say that it is not acceptable to eat!”

¹⁶ This happened three times, so Peter knew that he had to think carefully about what it might mean. Immediately after God had said that the third time, ◄ the sheet with the animals and birds was the pulled back into heaven/ someone pulled the sheet with the animals and birds up into the sky again►.

¹⁷ While Peter was trying to understand what that vision meant, the men who had been sent by Cornelius {whom Cornelius had sent} arrived in Joppa. They asked people how to get to Simon's house. So they found his house and were standing outside the gate.

¹⁸ They called and were asking if a man named Simon, whose other name was Peter, was staying there.

¹⁹ While Peter was still trying to understand what the vision meant, God's Spirit said to him, “Three men are here who want to see you.

²⁰ So get up and go downstairs and go with them! Do not think that you (sg) should not go with them because of their being non-Jews, because I have sent them here!”

²¹ So Peter went down to the men and said to them, “ Greetings! I am the man you are looking for. Why have you come?”

²² One of them replied, “Cornelius, who is a Roman army officer, sent us here. He is a righteous man who worships God, and all of the Jewish people HYP who know about him say that he is a very good man. An angel ◄who was sent from God/whom God sent► said to him, ‘Tell some men to go to Joppa to see Simon Peter and bring him here, so that you (sg) can hear what he has to say.’”

²³ So Peter said that he would go with them, and then he invited them into the house and told them that they could stay there that night. Acts 10:23b-26 The next day Peter got ready and went with the men. Several of the believers from Joppa went with him.

²⁴ The day after that, they arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them. He had also invited his relatives and close friends to come to his house, so they were there, too .

²⁵ When Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and bowed low in front of him to worship him.

²⁶ But Peter grasped Cornelius by the hand and lifted him to his feet. He said, “Stand up! Do not revere/worship me I myself am only human, like you!”

²⁷ While he was talking to Cornelius, Peter and the others entered a large room inside the house. Peter saw that many people had gathered together there.

²⁸ Then Peter said to them, “You all know that any of us Jews think we are disobeying our Jewish laws if we (exc) associate with a non-Jewish person or if we even visit him. However, God has shown me in a vision that I should not say about anyone that God will not accept him.

²⁹ So when you sent some men to ask me to come here, I came right away. I did not say that I could not go with non-Jewish people. So, please tell me, why have you asked me to come here?”

³⁰ Cornelius replied, “About this time four days ago I was praying to God in my house, as I regularly do at three o'clock in the afternoon. Suddenly a man whose clothes shone brightly stood in front of me,

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, when you (sg) have prayed, you have been heard by God {God has heard when you (sg) have prayed to him}. He has also noticed that you have often given money to help poor people, and he is pleased with that.

³² So now, send messengers to go to Joppa, in order to ask Simon whose other name is Peter to come here. He is staying near the ocean in a house that belongs to another man named Simon, who makes leather. When Simon Peter comes, he will tell you a message from God.’

³³ So I immediately sent some men who asked you (sg) to come here, and I certainly thank you for coming. Now we (exc) all are gathered here, knowing that God is with us, in order to hear all the things that the Lord God has commanded you to say. So please speak to us.”

³⁴ So Peter began to speak MTY to them. He said, “ Now I understand that it is true that God does not favor only certain groups of people.

³⁵ Instead, from every group of people he accepts everyone who honors him and who does what pleases him.

³⁶ You know the message that God sent to us Israelis. He proclaimed to us the good news that he would cause people to have peace with him because of what Jesus Christ has done. This Jesus is Lord not only over us Israelis. He is also the Lord who rules over all people.

³⁷ You know what he did throughout the land of Judea, beginning in Galilee. He began to do those things after John had been proclaiming to people that they should turn away from their sinful behavior before he baptized them.

³⁸ You know that God gave MTY his Holy Spirit to Jesus, the Man from Nazareth town, and gave him the power to do miracles. You also know how Jesus went to many places, always doing good deeds and healing people. Specifically, he was continually healing all the people whom the devil was causing to suffer. Jesus was able to do those things because God was always helping him.”

³⁹ “We apostles tell people about all the things that we saw Jesus do in Jerusalem and in the rest of Israel. The leaders in Jerusalem had him killed by being nailed to a cross.

⁴⁰ However, God caused him to become alive again on the third day after he had died. God also enabled some of us(exc) to see him so that we would know that he was alive again.

⁴¹ God did not let all the Jewish people see him. Instead, he had chosen us apostles beforehand to see Jesus after he became alive again, and to tell others about him. We apostles are the people who ate meals with him ◄after he had become alive again/after he had risen from the dead►.

⁴² God commanded us to preach to the people and tell them that Jesus is the one whom he has appointed to judge everyone some day. He will judge all those who will still be living and all those who will have died by that time .

⁴³ All of the prophets who wrote about the Messiah long ago told people about him. They wrote that if people believe in the Messiah MTY, God would forgive them for their sins, because of what the Messiah would do for them.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking those words, suddenly the Holy Spirit ◄came down on/began to control► all those non-Jewish people who were listening to the message.

⁴⁵ The Jewish believers who had come with Peter from Joppa were amazed that God had generously given the Holy Spirit to the non-Jewish people, too.

⁴⁶ The Jewish believers knew that God had done that because they were hearing those people speaking languages MTY that they had not learned and telling how great God is.

⁸ Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ Now on the next day as they were on their journey and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.

¹⁰ He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.

¹¹ He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,

¹² in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

¹³ A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

¹⁴ But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

¹⁵ A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

¹⁶ This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁹ While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.

²⁰ But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

²¹ Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”

²² They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”

²³ So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

²⁴ On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.

²⁵ When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”

²⁷ As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.

²⁸ He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

²⁹ Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”

³⁰ Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

³³ Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

³⁴ Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;

³⁵ but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—

³⁷ you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

³⁹ We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.

⁴⁰ God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,

⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴² He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.

¹⁴ But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

¹⁵ A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

¹⁶ This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁹ While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.

²⁰ But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

²¹ Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”

²² They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”

²³ So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

²⁴ On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.

²⁵ When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”

²⁷ As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.

²⁸ He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

²⁹ Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”

³⁰ Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

³³ Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

³⁴ Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;

³⁵ but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—

³⁷ you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

³⁹ We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.

⁴⁰ God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,

⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴² He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.

⁴⁵ They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.

⁴⁶ For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.

⁸ Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ Now on the next day as they were on their journey and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.

¹⁰ He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.

¹¹ He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,

¹² in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

¹³ A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

¹⁴ But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

⁸ And having given them an account of everything, he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ Now the day after, when they were on their journey and were near the town, Peter went up to the top of the house for prayer, about the sixth hour:

¹⁰ And he was in need of food: but while they were getting it ready, a deep sleep came on him;

¹¹ And he saw the heavens opening, and a vessel coming down, like a great cloth let down on the earth,

¹² In which were all sorts of beasts and birds.

¹³ And a voice came to him, saying, Come, Peter; take them for food.

¹⁴ But Peter said, No, Lord; for I have never taken food which is common or unclean.

¹⁵ And the voice came to him a second time, What God has made clean, do not you make common.

¹⁶ And this was done three times: and then the vessel was taken back into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was in doubt as to the purpose of this vision, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made search for Simon's house, came to the door,

¹⁸ To see if Simon, named Peter, was living there.

¹⁹ And, while Peter was turning the vision over in his mind, the Spirit said to him, See, three men are looking for you.

²⁰ Go down, then, and go with them, doubting nothing, for I have sent them.

²¹ And Peter went down to the men, and said, I am the man you are looking for: why have you come?

²² And they said, Cornelius, a captain, an upright and God-fearing man, respected by all the nation of the Jews, had word from God by an angel to send for you to his house, and to give hearing to your words.

²³ So he took them in for the night. And the day after, he went with them, taking some of the brothers from Joppa with him.

²⁴ And the day after that, they came to Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having got together his relations and his near friends.

²⁵ And when Peter came in, Cornelius came to him and, falling down at his feet, gave him worship.

²⁶ But Peter, lifting him up, said, Get up, for I am a man as you are.

²⁷ And saying these words, he went in, and saw that a great number of people had come together;

²⁸ And he said to them, You yourselves have knowledge that it is against the law for a man who is a Jew to be in the company of one who is of another nation; but God has made it clear to me that no man may be named common or unclean:

²⁹ And so I came without question, when I was sent for. What then is your purpose in sending for me?

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Four days from now I was in my house in prayer at the ninth hour; and I saw before me a man in shining clothing,

³¹ Who said, Cornelius, your prayer has come to the ears of God, and your offerings are kept in his memory.

³² Send, then, to Joppa, and get Simon, named Peter, to come to you; he is living in the house of Simon, a leather-worker, by the sea.

³³ So, straight away, I sent for you; and you have done well to come. And now, we are all present before God, ready to give attention to all the things which the Lord has given you to say.

³⁴ Then Peter said, Truly, I see clearly that God is no respecter of persons:

³⁵ But in every nation, the man who has fear of him and does righteousness is pleasing to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent to the children of Israel, giving the good news of peace through Jesus Christ (who is Lord of all) —

³⁷ That word you yourselves have knowledge of, which was made public through all Judaea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism of which John was the preacher,

³⁸ About Jesus of Nazareth, how God gave the Holy Spirit to him, with power: and how he went about doing good and making well all who were troubled by evil spirits, for God was with him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all the things which he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they put to death, hanging him on a tree.

⁴⁰ On the third day God gave him back to life, and let him be seen,

⁴¹ Not by all the people, but by witnesses marked out before by God, even by us, who took food and drink with him after he came back from the dead.

⁴² And he gave us orders to give news of this to the people, and to give public witness that this is he whom God has made judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ To him all the prophets give witness, that through his name everyone who has faith in him will have forgiveness of sins.

⁴⁴ While Peter was saying these words, the Holy Spirit came on all those who were hearing the word.

⁴⁵ And the Jews of the faith, who had come with Peter, were full of wonder, because the Holy Spirit was given to the Gentiles,

⁴⁶ And they were talking in tongues, and giving glory to God. Then Peter said,

⁷ And when the angel who was speaking to him had departed, having called two of his household and a pious soldier of those who were constantly with him,

⁸ and related all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ And on the morrow, as these were journeying and drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the house to pray, about the sixth hour.

¹⁰ And he became hungry and desired to eat. But as they were making ready an ecstasy came upon him:

¹¹ and he beholds the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as a great sheet, bound by the four corners and let down to the earth;

¹² in which were all the quadrupeds and creeping things of the earth, and the fowls of the heaven.

¹³ And there was a voice to him, Rise, Peter, slay and eat.

¹⁴ And Peter said, In no wise, Lord; for I have never eaten anything common or unclean.

¹⁵ And there was a voice again the second time to him, What God has cleansed, do not thou make common.

¹⁶ And this took place thrice, and the vessel was straightway taken up into heaven.

¹⁷ And as Peter doubted in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold also the men who were sent by Cornelius, having sought out the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

¹⁸ and having called some one, they inquired if Simon who was surnamed Peter was lodged there.

¹⁹ But as Peter continued pondering over the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men seek thee;

²⁰ but rise up, go down, and go with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them.

²¹ And Peter going down to the men said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause for which ye come?

²² And they said, Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man, and fearing God, and borne witness to by the whole nation of the Jews, has been divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for thee to his house, and hear words from thee.

²³ Having therefore invited them in, he lodged them. And on the morrow, rising up he went away with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him.

²⁴ And on the morrow they came to Caesarea. But Cornelius was looking for them, having called together his kinsmen and his intimate friends.

²⁵ And when Peter was now coming in, Cornelius met him, and falling down did him homage.

²⁶ But Peter made him rise, saying, Rise up: I myself also am a man.

²⁷ And he went in, talking with him, and found many gathered together.

²⁸ And he said to them, Ye know how it is unlawful for a Jew to be joined or come to one of a strange race, and to me God has shewn to call no man common or unclean.

²⁹ Wherefore also, having been sent for, I came without saying anything against it. I inquire therefore for what reason ye have sent for me.

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Four days ago I had been fasting unto this hour, and the ninth I was praying in my house, and lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

³¹ and said, Cornelius, thy prayer has been heard, and thy alms have come in remembrance before God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodges in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea who when he is come will speak to thee.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee, and thou hast well done in coming. Now therefore we are all present before God to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

³⁴ And Peter opening his mouth said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

³⁵ but in every nation he that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, (he is Lord of all things,)

³⁷ ye know; the testimony which has spread through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached —

³⁸ Jesus who was of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went through all quarters doing good, and healing all that were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

³⁹ We also are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also slew, having hanged him on a cross.

⁴⁰ This man God raised up the third day and gave him to be openly seen,

⁴¹ not of all the people, but of witnesses who were chosen before of God, us who have eaten and drunk with him after he arose from among the dead.

⁴² And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he it is who was determinately appointed of God to be judge of living and dead.

⁴³ To him all the prophets bear witness that every one that believes on him will receive through his name remission of sins.

⁴⁴ While Peter was yet speaking these words the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were hearing the word.

⁴⁵ And the faithful of the circumcision were astonished, as many as came with Peter, that upon the nations also the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out:

⁴⁶ for they heard them speaking with tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

⁷ And when the angel who spoke to him was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a soldier who feared the Lord, of them that were under him.

⁸ To whom when he had related all, he sent them to Joppe.

⁹ And on the next day, whilst they were going on their journey, and drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up to the higher parts of the house to pray, about the sixth hour.

¹⁰ And being hungry, he was desirous to taste somewhat. And as they were preparing, there came upon him an ecstasy of mind.

¹¹ And he saw the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great linen sheet let down by the four corners from heaven to the earth:

¹² Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and fowls of the air.

¹³ And there came a voice to him: Arise, Peter; kill and eat.

¹⁴ But Peter said: Far be it from me; for I never did eat any thing that is common and unclean.

¹⁵ And the voice spoke to him again the second time: That which God hath cleansed, do not thou call common.

¹⁶ And this was done thrice; and presently the vessel was taken up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now, whilst Peter was doubting within himself, what the vision that he had seen should mean, behold the men who were sent from Cornelius, inquiring for Simon’s house, stood at the gate.

¹⁸ And when they had called, they asked, if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

¹⁹ And as Peter was thinking of the vision, the Spirit said to him: Behold three men seek thee.

²⁰ Arise, therefore, get thee down and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

²¹ Then Peter, going down to the men, said: Behold, I am he whom you seek; what is the cause for which you are come?

²² Who said: Cornelius, a centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and having good testimony from all the nation of the Jews, received an answer of an holy angel, to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

²³ Then bringing them in, he lodged them. And the day following he arose, and went with them: and some of the brethren from Joppe accompanied him.

²⁴ And the morrow after, he entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, having called together his kinsmen and special friends.

²⁵ And it came to pass, that when Peter was come in, Cornelius came to meet him, Cornelius came to meet him, and falling at his feet adored.

²⁶ But Peter lifted him up, saying: Arise, I myself also am a man.

²⁷ And talking with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

²⁸ And he said to them: You know how abominable it is for a man that is a Jew, to keep company or to come unto one of another nation: but God hath shewed to me, to call no man common or unclean.

²⁹ For which cause, making no doubt, I came when I was sent for. I ask, therefore, for what cause you have sent for me?

³⁰ And Cornelius said: Four days ago, unto this hour, I was praying in my house, at the ninth hour, and behold a man stood before me in white apparel, and said:

³¹ Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thy alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppe, and call hither Simon, who is surnamed Peter: he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea side.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee: and thou hast done well in coming. Now therefore all we are present in thy sight, to hear all things whatsoever are commanded thee by the Lord.

³⁴ And Peter opening his mouth, said: In very deed I perceive, that God is not a respecter of persons.

³⁵ But in every nation, he that feareth him, and worketh justice, is acceptable to him.

³⁶ God sent the word to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all.)

³⁷ You know the word which hath been published through all Judea: for it began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached,

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost, and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

⁴¹ Not to all the people, but to witnesses preordained by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he arose again from the dead;

⁴² And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God, to be judge of the living and of the dead.

⁴³ To him all the prophets give testimony, that by his name all receive remission of sins, who believe in him.

⁴⁴ While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them that heard the word.

¹⁴ But Peter said, “By no means, Lord! For never did I eat anything common or unclean.”

¹⁵ And a voice spoke again the second time to him, “That which God has made clean, you must not make common.”

¹⁶ And this happened three times, and again the vessel was taken up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now as Peter was very perplexed within himself as to what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius, having found by inquiry the house of Simon, stood at the gateway.

¹⁸ And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁹ Now while Peter pondered about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, men are seeking you.

²⁰ Arise therefore, go down and go with them, without wavering; for I have sent them.”

²¹ And Peter, going down to the men, said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”

²² And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and fearing God, having a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was given a revelation by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to hear a message from you.”

²³ Therefore he invited them in and received them as guests. Now on the next day Peter went forth with them, and some brothers from Joppa went with him.

²⁴ And on the next day they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and close friends.

²⁵ Now when it happened that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell at his feet and worshiped him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am just a man.”

²⁷ And talking with him he went in, and found many having gathered,

²⁸ and he said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to associate with or to approach a Gentile; and yet God has shown to me that I should call no man common or unclean;

²⁹ therefore also without objecting, I came when I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?”

³⁰ So Cornelius said, “From the fourth day until this hour I was fasting, and at the ninth hour I was praying in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in shining clothing,

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your alms are remembered before God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, whose surname is Peter. He is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, beside the sea. When he arrives, he will speak to you.’

³³ Therefore immediately I sent to you, and you have done well to come. Now then we are all present before God, to hear all the things having been commanded you by God.”

³⁴ And Peter, opening his mouth, said: “In truth I comprehend that God is not One to show partiality.

³⁵ But in every nation, he that fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him.

³⁶ The word which God sent to the sons of Israel, preaching the good news of peace through Jesus Christ—He being Lord of all—

³⁷ you know, the word coming to be throughout all of Judea, and beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John proclaimed,

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all those who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all things which He did, both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they also killed by hanging on a tree.

⁴⁰ This Jesus God raised up on the third day, and caused Him to be seen,

⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses, who having been chosen beforehand by God, even to us, who ate and drank together with Him after He arose from the dead.

⁴² And He commanded us to proclaim to the people, and to testify solemnly that He is the One having been appointed by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ To Him all the prophets bear witness, that through His name, everyone believing in Him shall receive forgiveness of sins.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

⁴⁵ And those of the circumcision who believed were astounded, as many as had come with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

⁴⁶ For they heard them speaking in tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

⁷ So when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who were faithful to him,

⁸ and explaining everything to them he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ Now on the next day, as they were traveling and drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.

¹⁰ Well he became hungry and wanted to eat; but while they were preparing, a trance fell on him,

¹¹ and he saw the heaven opened and a container like a great sheet descending to him—it was tied at the four corners and was being let down to the earth—

¹² in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth (both wild animals and reptiles) and birds of the sky.

¹³ Then a voice came to him, “Get up, Peter, slaughter and eat!”

¹⁴ But Peter said: “No way, Lord! Never have I eaten anything ‘common’ or unclean!”

¹⁵ So the voice came to him a second time, “What (pl) God has made clean you must not call ‘common’!”

¹⁶ Well this happened three times, and then the object was taken back up into the sky.

¹⁷ Now as Peter was really perplexed within himself as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, well the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having inquired and found Simon's house, stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and calling out they inquired whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, was staying there as a guest.

¹⁹ So as Peter was pondering the vision the Spirit said to him: “Listen, some men are looking for you;

²⁰ so get up and go downstairs; and go with them, doubting nothing, for I have sent them.”

²¹ So going down to the men Peter said: “Yes, I am the one you are looking for. For what reason have you come?”

²² So they said: “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man, well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by an angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.”

²³ So he invited them in and put them up. The next day Peter set out with them, also some of the brothers from Joppa went with him;

²⁴ and the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and close friends.

²⁵ So when Peter actually arrived, Cornelius met him, fell at his feet and worshiped.

²⁶ But Peter lifted him up, saying: “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”

²⁷ And conversing with him he went in and found many gathered there.

²⁸ Then he said to them: “You know how it is unlawful for a Jewish man to associate with or to approach a different race; but God has shown me that I should not call any man ‘common’ or unclean.

²⁹ Therefore also I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. So I ask, for what reason did you send for me?”

³⁰ So Cornelius said: “I have been fasting during four days until this very hour; yes, it was the ninth hour, I was praying in my house when wow, a man stood before me in shining clothing

³¹ and said: ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms are remembered before God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea; upon arriving he will speak to you.’

³³ So I sent to you at once, and you did well to come. Now then, we are all present before God to hear all the things commanded you by God.”

³⁴ So opening his mouth Peter said: “Really, I comprehend that God is not One to show partiality,

³⁵ but in every ethnic nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him.

³⁶ The word that He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—

³⁷ that spoken word you know, that was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached:

³⁸ Jesus of Natsareth, how God anointed Him with Holy Spirit and power, who went about doing good and healing all those being oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him

³⁹ —yes, we are witnesses of all that He did, both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem—whom they also killed, hanging Him on a tree.

⁴⁰ Him God raised on the third day, and gave Him to become visible,

⁴¹ not to all the people but to witnesses who had been chosen beforehand by God, to us, who ate and drank with Him after He arose out from the dead.

⁴² And He ordered us to proclaim to the people, that is, to testify that He is the One who has been ordained by God as Judge of living and dead.

⁴³ To Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes into Him will receive forgiveness of sins.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were hearing the message.

⁴⁵ Well the believers of the circumcision Jews who had come with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had also been poured out on the Gentiles,

⁴⁶ in that they heard them speaking languages and magnifying God. Then Peter responded:

⁷ When the angel who had spoken to him had left, Cornelius called in two of his house-servants and a soldier of his personal guard, a religious man.

⁸ After he'd explained to them all that had happened he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ The next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up onto the top of the house to pray. It was about noon,

¹⁰ and he was getting hungry, wanting to eat. But while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance, and

¹¹ he saw heaven opened. He saw something coming down that looked like a large sheet held by its four corners, being lowered onto the earth.

¹² Inside were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds.

¹³ He heard a voice say, “Get up Peter, kill and eat!”

¹⁴ But Peter replied, “Certainly not, Lord! I have never eaten anything that is impure and unclean.”

¹⁵ He heard the voice speak again, “Don't you call unclean what God has made clean!”

¹⁶ This happened three times, and then the sheet was quickly taken back into heaven.

¹⁷ While Peter was puzzling over what the vision he'd seen really meant, the men sent by Cornelius had found out where Simon's house was and were standing at the gate.

¹⁸ They called out, asking whether Simon, also called Peter, was staying there.

¹⁹ While Peter was still wondering about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Look, there are three men looking for you.

²⁰ Get up, go downstairs, and go with them. Don't worry at all because I'm the one who sent them.”

²¹ So Peter went downstairs to meet the men. “I'm the one you're looking for,” he said. “Why are you here?”

²² “We come from Cornelius, a good, religious man who has reverence for God and is widely respected among the Jewish people,” they replied. “A holy angel instructed him to send for you to come to his house so he can hear what you have to tell him.”

²³ So he invited them in and they stayed there. The next day he got up and left with them. Some of the brothers from Joppa went with them too.

²⁴ The following day they arrived in Caesarea where Cornelius was waiting for them with his relatives and close friends whom he'd called together.

²⁵ When Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.

²⁶ But Peter pulled him back up, telling him, “Stand up! I'm only a man!”

²⁷ Peter spoke with Cornelius, and then went on in where he found many other people waiting for him.

²⁸ He said to them, “You certainly know that it's not permitted for a Jew to be associated with or to visit foreigners. But God has shown me that it's not for me to call anyone impure or unclean.

²⁹ That's why I came without any argument when I was sent for. So now I want to know the reason why you sent for me.”

³⁰ “Four days ago, at about this time—three in the afternoon—I was praying in my house,” Cornelius explained. “Suddenly I saw a man standing in front of me, dressed in clothes that shone brightly.

³¹ He told me, ‘Cornelius, your prayers have been heard, and God has recognized your generosity to the poor.

³² Send someone to Joppa for Simon Peter. He's staying at Simon the tanner's house, down by the sea-shore.’

³³ So immediately I sent for you, and it was good of you to come. That's why we're all here, meeting together before God, ready to hear everything the Lord has told you.”

³⁴ Peter replied, “I'm totally convinced that God has no favorites.

³⁵ In every nation God accepts those who respect him, and do what is good and right.

³⁶ You know the message he sent to Israel, sharing the good news of peace that comes from Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

³⁷ You know that this good news spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee, following John's call to baptism.

³⁸ It's about Jesus of Nazareth—how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how he went around doing good, healing all those who were under the devil's control, for God was with him.

³⁹ We can testify to all that he did in Judea and Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross.

⁴⁰ But God raised him back to life on the third day, and had him appear,

⁴¹ not to everyone, but to those witnesses chosen by God—including us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴² He gave us the responsibility of publicly telling this to the people, to testify that he is the one God chose as the Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ He is the one all the prophets spoke about, that everyone who trusts in him will receive forgiveness through his name.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell on all of them who were listening to the message.

⁴⁵ The Jewish believers who had come with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the foreigners.

⁴⁶ They heard them speaking in tongues, glorifying God.

⁷ And when the Angel which spake vnto Cornelius, was departed, he called two of his seruants, and a souldier that feared God, one of them that waited on him,

⁸ And tolde them all things, and sent them to Ioppa.

⁹ On the morow as they went on their iourney, and drew neere vnto the citie, Peter went vp vpon the house to pray, about the sixt houre.

¹⁰ Then waxed hee an hungred, and would haue eaten: but while they made some thing ready, he fell into a trance.

¹¹ And hee sawe heauen opened, and a certaine vessell come downe vnto him, as it had bene a great sheete, knit at the foure corners, and was let downe to the earth.

¹² Wherein were all maner of foure footed beastes of the earth, and wilde beastes and creeping things, and foules of the heauen.

¹³ And there came a voyce to him, Arise, Peter: kill, and eate.

¹⁴ But Peter sayd, Not so, Lord: for I haue neuer eaten any thing that is polluted, or vncleane.

¹⁵ And the voyce spake vnto him againe the second time, The things that God hath purified, pollute thou not.

¹⁶ This was so done thrise: and the vessell was drawen vp againe into heauen.

¹⁷ Nowe while Peter douted in himselfe what this vision which he had seene, meant, beholde, the men which were sent from Cornelius, had inquired for Simons house, and stoode at the gate,

¹⁸ And called, and asked, whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

¹⁹ And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit sayde vnto him, Beholde, three men seeke thee.

²⁰ Arise therefore, and get thee downe, and goe with them, and doute nothing: For I haue sent them.

²¹ Then Peter went downe to the men, which were sent vnto him from Cornelius, and sayd, Beholde, I am he whome ye seeke: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

²² And they sayd, Cornelius the captaine, a iust man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Iewes, was warned from heauen by an holy Angel, to send for thee into his house, and to heare thy wordes.

²³ Then called he them in, and lodged them, and the next day, Peter went foorth with them, and certaine brethren from Ioppa accompanied him.

²⁴ And the day after, they entred into Cesarea. Nowe Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsemen, and special friends.

²⁵ And it came to passe as Peter came in, that Cornelius met him, and fell downe at his feete, and worshipped him.

²⁶ But Peter tooke him vp, saying, Stand vp: for euen I my selfe am a man.

²⁷ And as he talked with him, he came in, and found many that were come together.

²⁸ And he sayd vnto them, Ye know that it is an vnlawfull thing for a man that is a Iewe, to company, or come vnto one of another nation: but God hath shewed me, that I should not call any man polluted, or vncleane.

²⁹ Therefore came I vnto you without saying nay, when I was sent for. I aske therefore, for what intent haue ye sent for me?

³⁰ Then Cornelius sayd, Foure dayes agoe, about this houre, I fasted, and at the ninth houre I prayed in mine house, and beholde, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

³¹ And sayd, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine almes are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Ioppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter (he is lodged in the house of Simon a Tanner by the sea side) who when he commeth, shall speake vnto thee.

³³ Then sent I for thee immediately, and thou hast well done to come. Nowe therefore are we all here present before God, to heare all things that are commanded thee of God.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and sayd, Of a trueth I perceiue, that God is no accepter of persons.

³⁵ But in euery nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousnesse, is accepted with him.

³⁶ Ye know the worde which God hath sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Iesus Christ, which is Lord of all:

³⁷ Euen the worde which came through all Iudea, beginning in Galile, after the baptisme which Iohn preached.

³⁸ To wit, howe God anointed Iesus of Nazareth with the holy Ghost, and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the deuill: for God was with him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Iewes, and in Hierusalem, whom they slewe, hanging him on a tree.

⁴⁵ So they of the circumcision which beleeued, were astonied, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was powred out the gift of the holy Ghost.

¹¹ and saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

¹² wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

¹³ And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

¹⁴ But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

¹⁵ And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

¹⁶ This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

¹⁹ While Peter thought on the vision, the spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee:

²⁰ arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

³¹ and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

³⁷ Ye yourselves know what was spoken of through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached,

³⁸ relating to Jesus of Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were overpowered by the Devil; for God was with him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also slew by hanging him on a cross.

⁴⁶ for they heard them speaking with tongues, and magnifying God. Then answered Peter,

⁷ When the angel, who had spoken to him, had gone, Cornelius called two servants and a religious soldier, who was one of his constant attendants,

⁸ and, after telling them the whole story, sent them to Jaffa.

⁹ On the next day, while these men were on their way, just as they were nearing the town, Peter went up on the housetop about midday to pray.

¹⁰ He became hungry and wanted something to eat; but while it was being prepared, he fell into a trance,

¹¹ and saw that the heavens were open, and that something like a great sail was descending, let down by its four corners towards the earth.

¹² In it were all kinds of quadrupeds, reptiles, and birds.

¹³ Then he was aware of a voice which said — “Stand up, Peter, kill something, and eat.”

¹⁴ “No, Lord, I cannot,” answered Peter, “for I have never eaten anything defiled and unclean.”

¹⁵ Again he was aware of a voice which said — “What God has pronounced clean, do not regard as defiled.”

¹⁶ This happened three times, and then suddenly it was all taken up into the heavens.

¹⁷ While Peter was still perplexed as to the meaning of the vision that he had seen, the men sent by Cornelius, having enquired the way to Simon's house, came up to the gate,

¹⁸ and called out and asked if the Simon, who was also known as Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁹ Peter was still pondering over the vision, when the Spirit said to him, “There are two men looking for you at this moment.

²⁰ Go down at once and do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

²¹ Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the person you are looking for. What is your reason for coming?”

²² The men replied, “Our captain, Cornelius, a pious man who reverences God and is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, has been instructed by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to listen to what you have to say.”

²³ So Peter invited them in and entertained them. The next day he lost no time in setting out with them, accompanied by some of the Lord's followers from Jaffa;

²⁴ and the day following he entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them, and had invited his relatives and intimate friends to meet them.

²⁵ So, when Peter entered the city, Cornelius met him, and, throwing himself at Peter's feet, bowed to the ground.

²⁶ Peter, however, lifted him up, saying as he did so, “Stand up, I am only human like yourself.”

²⁷ Talking with him as he went, Peter entered the house, where he found a large gathering of people, to whom he said,

²⁸ “You are doubtless aware that it is forbidden for a Jew to be intimate with a foreigner, or even to enter his house; and yet God has shown me that I ought not to call anyone defiled or unclean.

²⁹ That was why I came, when I was sent for, without raising any objection. And now I ask your reason for sending for me.”

³⁰ “Just three days ago this very hour,” Cornelius said, “I was in my house, saying the Afternoon Prayers, when a man in dazzling clothing suddenly stood before me.

³¹ ‘Cornelius,’ he said, ‘your prayer has been heard, and your charities have been accepted, by God.

³² Therefore send to Jaffa, and invite the Simon, who is also known as Peter, to come here. He is lodging in the house of Simon the tanner, near the sea.’

³³ Accordingly I sent to you at once, and you have been so good as to come. And now we are all here in the presence of God, to listen to all that you have been instructed by the Lord to say.”

³⁴ Then Peter began. “I see, beyond all doubt,” he said, “that God does not show partiality,

³⁵ but that in every nation he who reverences him and does what is right is acceptable to him.

³⁶ God has sent his message to the Israelites and told them, through Jesus Christ, the good news of peace — and Jesus is Lord of all!

³⁷ You yourselves know the story which spread through all Judea, how, beginning form Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed —

³⁸ The story, I mean, of Jesus of Nazareth, and how God consecrated him his Christ by enduing him with the Holy Spirit and with power; and how he went about doing good and curing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

³⁹ We are ourselves, too, witnesses to all that he did in Judea and in Jerusalem; yet they put him to death by hanging him on a cross!

⁴⁰ This Jesus God raised on the third day, and enabled him to appear,

⁴¹ not indeed to everyone, but to witnesses chosen beforehand by God — to us, who ate and drank with him after his resurrection from the dead.

⁴² Further, God charged us to proclaim to the people, and solemnly affirm, that it is Jesus who has been appointed by God judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ To him it is that all the prophets bear witness, when they say that everyone who believes in him receives through his name forgiveness of sins.”

⁴⁴ Before Peter had finished saying these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were listening to the message.

⁴⁵ Those converts from Judaism, who had come with Peter, were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been bestowed even on the Gentiles;

⁴⁶ for they heard them speaking in different languages and extolling God. At this Peter asked,

⁷ When the angel, who had spoken to him, had gone, Cornelius called two servants and a religious soldier, who was one of his constant attendants,

⁸ and, after telling them the whole story, sent them to Jaffa.

⁹ On the next day, while these men were on their way, just as they were nearing the town, Peter went up on the housetop about midday to pray.

¹⁰ He became hungry and wanted something to eat; but while it was being prepared, he fell into a trance,

¹¹ and saw that the heavens were open, and that something like a great sail was descending, let down by its four corners towards the earth.

¹² In it were all kinds of quadrupeds, reptiles, and birds.

¹³ Then he was aware of a voice which said — “Stand up, Peter, kill something, and eat.”

¹⁴ “No, Lord, I cannot,” answered Peter, “for I have never eaten anything defiled and unclean.”

¹⁵ Again he was aware of a voice which said — “What God has pronounced clean, do not regard as defiled.”

¹⁶ This happened three times, and then suddenly it was all taken up into the heavens.

¹⁷ While Peter was still perplexed as to the meaning of the vision that he had seen, the men sent by Cornelius, having enquired the way to Simon's house, came up to the gate,

¹⁸ and called out and asked if the Simon, who was also known as Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁹ Peter was still pondering over the vision, when the Spirit said to him, “There are two men looking for you at this moment.

²⁰ Go down at once and do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

²¹ Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the person you are looking for. What is your reason for coming?”

²² The men replied, “Our captain, Cornelius, a pious man who reverences God and is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, has been instructed by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to listen to what you have to say.”

²³ So Peter invited them in and entertained them. The next day he lost no time in setting out with them, accompanied by some of the Lord's followers from Jaffa;

²⁴ and the day following he entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them, and had invited his relatives and intimate friends to meet them.

²⁵ So, when Peter entered the city, Cornelius met him, and, throwing himself at Peter's feet, bowed to the ground.

²⁶ Peter, however, lifted him up, saying as he did so, “Stand up, I am only human like yourself.”

²⁷ Talking with him as he went, Peter entered the house, where he found a large gathering of people, to whom he said,

²⁸ “You are doubtless aware that it is forbidden for a Jew to be intimate with a foreigner, or even to enter his house; and yet God has shown me that I ought not to call anyone defiled or unclean.

²⁹ That was why I came, when I was sent for, without raising any objection. And now I ask your reason for sending for me.”

⁷ The angel finished talking with Cornelius and went away. Then Cornelius called 2 of the men that worked in his house, and one of the soldiers that looked after him. That soldier respected God too.

⁸ Cornelius told them everything that happened and then he told them to go to Joppa and get Peter.

⁹ The next day, about the middle of the day, those men were walking along and getting near to Joppa. At that same time Peter went up on to the flat roof of the house to pray.

¹⁰ He started feeling hungry and he wanted something to eat, but he waited and prayed while the people in the house were getting some food ready. Then Peter had like a dream, but he was still awake.

¹¹ He saw the sky open up, then he saw something like a big sheet. Somebody was holding on to the 4 corners of that sheet, and there was something in the middle of it. It was coming down from the sky to the ground. There were all kinds of animals in it, and lizards, and snakes, and birds. (Their Jewish law said, “Don’t eat those kinds of animals, they are no good.”)

¹³ Then a voice said to Peter, “Get up, Peter. Kill some of those animals and eat them.”

¹⁴ But Peter said, “No, boss. I can’t do that. Our Jewish law says we can’t eat that kind of animal. They are no good, so I never eat any of them.”

¹⁵ Then the voice said to Peter, “If God says that something is good, don’t say it is no good.”

¹⁶ That happened 3 times. Each time that voice told Peter to eat one of those animals, and each time Peter said, “No,” and each time the voice said, “If God says that something is good, don’t say it is no good.” Then that sheet went back up into the sky.

¹⁷ Peter sat there and thought, “What does this mean? What is God telling me?” While Peter was still trying to understand it, those 3 men from Cornelius walked into that town, Joppa. They asked people, “Where does Simon live, the leather worker man?” Then they stood outside at the gate of that house

¹⁸ and asked, “Is Simon Peter here?”

¹⁹ At that same time, Peter was thinking about what he just saw, and the Holy Spirit said to him, “Listen, 3 men are down at the gate. They are looking for you.

²⁰ So get up and go down to them. You see, I sent them to you, so just go with them. Don’t worry.”

²¹ Peter went down and said to the men, “Hey, I’m the man you are looking for. Why did you come here?”

²² They said, “Cornelius sent us. He is a boss in the Roman army. He is a good man and he respects God. All the Jews say he is a good man too. God sent one of his angel messengers to Cornelius and told him to ask you to come to his house and talk to him.”

²³ So Peter asked them to come in and stay there that night. The next morning Peter got up and went with those men. Some of the Joppa Christians went with him too. They had to camp one night along the road.

²⁴ The next day Cornelius called all his relatives and close friends to come to his house in Caesarea, and about 3 o’clock that day Peter and his mob came and found them waiting there.

²⁵ Peter started to go into the house, and Cornelius met him and got down on to his knees in front of Peter, to show him respect.

²⁶ But Peter lifted him up and said, “Stand up. I’m only a man, like you.”

²⁷ Peter kept talking with Cornelius, then they went into the house, and Peter saw a lot of people there.

²⁸ He said to them, “You know that the Jewish law teachers reckon that people that aren’t Jews are no good, so a Jew shouldn’t go into their house. But God showed me that I shouldn’t say that anyone is no good. He showed me that it is all right for me to visit you.

²⁹ Then these men came and asked me to come here, so I didn’t talk back. I came here with them. Now, please tell me, why did you ask me to come here?”

³⁰ Cornelius said, “4 days ago I was praying in my house at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Suddenly I saw a man wearing bright shining clothes standing in front of me.

³¹ And he said to me, ‘Cornelius, God heard you pray and he knows that you give money and things to the poor people.

³² So send some men to Joppa and tell them to get Simon Peter and bring him back here. He is staying in a leather worker’s house, whose name is Simon. His house is near the sea.

³³ So right away I sent those men to bring you here. Thank you for coming. God can see us all here. We are ready to hear everything that he told you to say to us.”

³⁴ Then Peter started telling them his message. He said, “Now I really understand that God treats everyone the same.

³⁵ If anyone respects God and does the right thing, God will let them come to him, and he will listen to them. It doesn’t matter if they are Jews, or if they belong to another tribe.

³⁶ This is the message that God sent to the Israel people, that Jesus Christ can make all of us friends with God. You see, Jesus is the boss over everybody.

³⁷ Listen, you know the things that happened, first in Galilee country, and then in Judea country. At first John the Baptiser told the people to turn to God,

³⁸ then God gave the Holy Spirit and power to Jesus, a man from the town called Nazareth. God was with Jesus, and he went everywhere doing good things. Some people were sick, and the devil was giving them big trouble. But Jesus made them better.

³⁹ We went around with Jesus and saw all the things that he did, in the Jewish people’s country, and in Jerusalem city. But then his enemies killed him. They nailed him to a cross.

⁴⁰ But after 3 days God made him alive again, and God let people see him alive.

⁴¹ Not everybody saw him alive, but we saw him. We even ate and drank with him. So God picked us to tell other people about him.

⁴² Jesus told us to tell them that one day God will take everybody to a big court and Jesus will be the judge. He will judge everybody that is alive, and he will judge everybody that is dead too.

⁴³ You see, a long time ago God sent his men to tell his messages, and they all talked about Jesus. They said that if anyone believes in him, God will not blame them for the wrong things they did.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still talking, the Holy Spirit came down and went into all the people that were listening to him.

⁴⁵ Peter’s mob there were Jewish Christians, and they were surprised to see God give his Holy Spirit freely to people that were not Jews.

⁴⁶ You see, they heard that mob talk in different languages and say that God is great, so they knew that God gave them his spirit. Then Peter said,

⁷ When the angell which spake vnto Cornelius was departed he called two of his housholde servauntes and a devoute soudier of them that wayted on him

⁸ and tolde them all the mater and sent them to Ioppa.

⁹ On the morowe as they wet on their iorney and drewe nye vnto the cite Peter went vp into the toppe of the housse to praye aboute the .vi. houre.

¹⁰ Then wexed he an hongred and wolde have eate. But whyll they made redy. He fell into a trauce

¹¹ and sawe heven opened and a certayne vessell come doune vnto him as it had bene a greate shete knyt at the .iiii. corners and was let doune to the erth

¹² where in wer all maner of .iiii. foted beastes of the erth and vermen and wormes and foules of the ayer.

¹³ And ther came a voyce to him: ryse Peter kyll and eate.

¹⁴ But Peter sayde: God forbyd Lorde for I have never eaten eny thinge that is comen or vnclene.

¹⁵ And the voyce spake vnto him agayne the seconde tyme: what God hath clensed that make thou not comen.

¹⁶ This was done thryse and the vessell was receaved vp agayne into heven.

¹⁷ Whyle Peter mused in him selfe what this vision which he had sene meant beholde the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquirance for Simons housse and stode before the dore.

¹⁸ And called out won and axed whether Simon which was also called Peter were lodged there.

¹⁹ Whyll Peter thought on this vision the sprete sayde vnto him: Beholde men seke the:

²⁰ aryse therfore get the doune and goo with them and doute not. For I have sent them.

²¹ Peter went doune to the men which were sent vnto him from Cornelius and sayde Beholde I am he whom ye seke what is the cause wherfore ye are come?

²² And they sayde vnto him: Cornelius the captayne a iust man and won that feareth God and of good reporte amonge all the people of the Iewes was warned by an holy angell to sende for the into his housse and to heare wordes of the.

²³ Then called he them in and lodged them. And on the morowe Peter wet awaye with them and certayne brethren from Ioppa accompanyed hym.

²⁴ And the thyrd daye entred they into Cesaria. And Cornelius wayted for them and had called to gether his kynsmen and speciall frendes.

²⁵ And as it chaunsed Peter to come in Cornelius met hym and fell doune at his fete and worshipped hym.

²⁶ But Peter toke him vp sayinge: stonde vp: for evyn I my silfe am a man.

²⁷ And as he talked with him he cam in and founde many that were come to gether.

²⁸ And he sayde vnto them: Ye do knowe how that that ys an vnlawfull thynge for a man that is a Iewe to company or come vnto an alient: But god hath shewed me that I shuld not call eny man commen or vnclene:

²⁹ therfore came I vnto you with oute sayege naye assone as I was sent for. I axe therfore for what intent have ye sent for me?

³⁰ And Cornelius sayde: This daye now .iiii. dayes I fasted and at the nynthe houre I prayde in my housse: and beholde a man stode before me in bright clothynge and sayde:

³¹ Cornelius thy prayer is hearde and thyne almes dedes are had in remembraunce in the sight of God.

³² Sende therfore to Ioppa and call for Simon which is also called Peter. He is lodged in the housse of one Simon a tanner by the see syde the wich assone as he is come shall speake vnto the.

³³ Then sent I for the immediatly and thou hast well done for to come. Now are we all here present before god to heare all thynges that are commaunded vnto the of God.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth and sayde: Of a trueth I perseave that God is not parciall

³⁵ but in all people he that feareth him and worketh rightewesnes is accepted with him.

³⁶ Ye knowe the preachynge that God sent vnto the chyldren of Israel preachinge peace by Iesus Christe (which is Lorde over all thinges:

³⁷ Which preachinge was published thorow oute all Iewrye and begane in Galile after the baptyme which Iohn preached

³⁸ how God had annoynted Iesus of Nazareth with the holy goost and with power which Iesus went aboute doinge good and healynge all that were oppressed of the develles for God was with him.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all thinges which he dyd in the londe of the Iewes and at Ierusalem whom they slew and honge on tree.

⁴⁰ Him God reysed vp the thyrde daye and shewed him openly

⁴¹ not to all the people but vnto vs witnesses chosyn before of God which ate and dronke with him after he arose from deeth.

⁴² And he commaunded vs to preache vnto the people and testifie that it is he that is ordened of God a iudge of quycke and deed.

⁴³ To him geve all the Prophetes witnes that thorowe his name shall receave remission of synnes all that beleve in him.

⁴⁴ Whyle Peter yet spake these wordes the holy gost fell on all them which hearde the preachinge.

⁴⁵ And they of the circucision which beleved were astonyed as many as came with Peter because that on the Gentyls also was sheed oute the gyfte of the holy gost.

⁴⁶ For they hearde them speake with tonges and magnify God. Then answered Peter:

⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had left, Cornelius called two of his house servants, and a devout soldier from among those who served him.

⁸ Cornelius told them all that had happened and sent them to Joppa.

⁹ Now on the next day at about the sixth hour, as they were on their journey and were approaching the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray.

¹⁰ He then became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while the people were cooking some food, he was given a vision,

¹¹ and he saw the sky open and a certain container descending, something like a large sheet coming down to the earth, let down by its four corners.

¹² In it were all kinds of four-footed animals and things that crawled on the earth, and birds of the sky.

¹³ Then a voice spoke to him: “Rise, Peter, kill and eat.”

¹⁴ But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that was defiled and unclean.”

¹⁵ But the voice came to him again a second time: “What God has cleansed, do not call it defiled.”

¹⁶ This happened three times; then the container was immediately taken back up into the sky.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was very confused about what the vision that he had seen could mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius stood before the gate, after they had asked their way to the house.

¹⁸ They called out and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there.

¹⁹ While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you.

²⁰ Arise and go down and go with them. Do not hesitate to go with them, because I have sent them.”

²¹ So Peter went down to the men and said, “I am he whom you are seeking. Why have you come?”

²² They said, “A centurion named Cornelius, a righteous man and one who worships God, and is well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was told by a holy angel of God to send for you to come to his house, so he could listen to a message from you.”

²³ So Peter invited them to come in and stay with him. On the next morning he got up and went with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

²⁴ On the following day they came to Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them; he had called together his relatives and his close friends.

²⁵ It came about that when Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet to worship him.

²⁶ But Peter helped him up, saying, “Stand up! I too am a man.”

²⁷ While Peter was talking with him, he went in and found many people gathered together.

²⁸ He said to them, “You yourselves know that it is not lawful for a Jewish man to associate with or to visit someone from another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man defiled or unclean.

²⁹ That is why I came without arguing, when I was sent for. So I ask you why you sent for me.”

³⁰ Cornelius said, “Four days ago at this very hour, I was praying at the ninth hour in my house; and see, a man stood before me in bright clothing.

³¹ He said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard by God, and your gifts to the poor have reminded God about you.

³² So send someone to Joppa, and call to you a man named Simon who is called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside.'

³³ So at once I sent for you. You are kind to have come. Now then, we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear everything that you have been instructed by the Lord to say.”

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly, I perceive that God does not take anyone's side.

³⁵ Instead, in every nation anyone who worships and does righteous deeds is acceptable to him.

³⁶ You know the message that he sent to the people of Israel, when he announced good news about peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all—

³⁷ you yourselves know the events that took place, which occurred throughout all Judea, beginning in Galilee, after the baptism that John announced;

³⁸ the events concerning Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

³⁹ We are witnesses of all the things Jesus did, both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree,

⁴⁰ but God raised him up on the third day and caused him to be seen,

⁴¹ not by all the people, but to the witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴² He commanded us to proclaim to the people and to testify that this is the one who has been chosen by God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴³ It is to him that all the prophets bear witness, so that everyone who believes in him shall receive forgiveness of sins through his name.”

⁴⁴ While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all of those who were listening to his message.

⁴⁵ The people who belonged to the circumcision group of believers—all of those who came with Peter—were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out also on the Gentiles.

⁴⁶ For they heard these Gentiles speak in other languages and praising God. Then Peter answered,

¹² in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

¹³ A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

¹⁴ But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

¹⁵ A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

¹⁶ This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

²⁸ He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

²⁹ Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”

³⁰ Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

³³ Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

³⁴ Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;

³⁵ but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—

³⁷ you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

³⁹ We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.

⁴⁰ God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,

¹² in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

¹³ A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

¹⁴ But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

¹⁵ A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

¹⁶ This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made enquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

¹⁸ and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁹ While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.

²⁰ But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

²¹ Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”

²² They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”

²³ So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

²⁴ On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.

²⁵ When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”

²⁷ As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.

²⁸ He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

²⁹ Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”

³⁰ Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

³² Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

³³ Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

³⁴ Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favouritism;

³⁵ but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

³⁶ The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—

³⁷ you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

⁹ And on the day pursuing, while they made journey, and nighed to the city, Peter went up into the highest place of the house to pray, about the sixth hour.

¹⁰ And when he was hungered, he would have eaten. But while they made ready, a ravishing of the spirit or an excess of soul felled on him;

¹¹ and he saw heaven opened, and a vessel coming down, as a great sheet with four corners or with four cords, to be let down from heaven into earth,

¹² in which were all four-footed beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and volatiles of heaven, either of the air.

¹³ And a voice was made to him, Rise thou, Peter, and slay, and eat.

¹⁴ And Peter said, Lord, forbid it, for I never eat any common thing, and unclean.

¹⁵ And again the second time the voice was made to him, That thing that God hath cleansed, say thou not unclean.

¹⁶ And this thing was done by thrice; and anon the vessel was received again into heaven.

¹⁷ And while that Peter doubted within himself, what the vision was that he saw, lo! the men, that were sent from Cornelius, sought the house of Simon, and stood at the gate.

¹⁸ And when they had called, they asked if Simon, that is named Peter, had there harbour.

¹⁹ And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said to him, Lo! three men seek thee.

²³ Therefore he led them in, and received in harbour; and that night they dwelled with him. And in the day pursuing he rose, and went forth with them; and some of the brethren followed him from Joppa or some of brethren from Joppa followed him, that they be witnesses to Peter.

²⁴ And the tother day, he entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius abode them, with his cousins, and necessary friends, that were called together.

²⁵ And it was done, when Peter was come in or when Peter had entered, Cornelius came meeting him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him, and said, Arise thou, also I myself am a man, as thou.

²⁷ And he spake with him, and went in, and found many that were come together.

²⁸ And he said to them, Ye know, how abominable it is to a Jew, to be joined either to come to an alien; but God showed to me, that no man say a man common, either unclean.

²⁹ For which thing I came, when I was called, without doubting. There-fore I ask you, for what cause have ye called me?

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Today, four days into this hour or From the fourth day passed till to this hour, I was praying and fasting in the ninth hour in mine house. And lo! a man stood before me in a white cloth,

³¹ and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms-deeds be in mind in the sight of God.

³² Therefore send thou into Joppa, and call Simon, that is named Peter; this is harboured in the house of Simon currier, beside the sea. This, when he shall come, shall speak to thee.

³³ Therefore anon I sent to thee, and thou didest well in coming to us. Now therefore we all be present in thy sight, to hear the words, whatever be commanded to thee of the Lord.

³⁴ And Peter opened his mouth, and said, In truth I have found, that God is no acceptor of persons;

³⁵ but in each folk he that dreadeth God, and worketh rightwiseness, is acceptable to him.

³⁶ God sent a word to the children of Israel, showing peace by Jesus Christ; this is the Lord of all things or of all men.

³⁷ Ye know the word that is made through all Judea, and began at Galilee, after the baptism that John preached, Jesus of Nazareth;

³⁸ how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost, and virtue; which passed forth in doing well or in well-doing, and healing all men oppressed of the devil, for God was with him.

⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses before-ordained of God; to us that ate and drank with him, after that he rose again from death.

⁴³ To this all prophets bear witness-ing or bear witness, that all men that believe in him, shall receive remission of sins by his name.

⁴⁴ And yet while that Peter spake these words, the Holy Ghost felled on all that heard the word.

⁴⁵ And the faithful men of circumcision, that came with Peter, wondered, that also into nations the grace of the Holy Ghost is shed out.

⁴⁶ For they heard them speaking in languages or with tongues, and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

(And they said, Cornelius, the centurion, a righteous man, and revering God, and receiving good testimony from all the Jewish people, received a word from a holy angel, to call thee to his house, and to hear some words from thee.)

²³ Therefore he led them in, and received (them) in harbour; and that night they dwelled with him. And in the day (pur)suing he rose (or And on the following day he rose up), and went forth with them; and some of the brethren followed him from Joppa or and some of (the) brethren from Joppa followed him, (so) that they be witnesses to Peter.

²⁴ And the tother day (or And the next day), he entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius abode them, with his cousins, and necessary friends, that were called together.

²⁵ And it was done, when Peter was come in or when Peter had entered, Cornelius came meeting him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped (or and honoured) him.

²⁶ But Peter raised him (up), and said, Arise thou, also I myself am a man, as thou.

²⁷ And he spake with him, and went in, and found many that were come together.

²⁸ And he said to them, Ye know, how abominable it is to a Jew, to be joined either to come to an alien (or to a foreigner); but God showed to me, that no man say a man common, either unclean (or unclean).

²⁹ For which thing I came, when I was called, without doubting. Therefore I ask you, for what cause have ye called me?

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Today, four days into this hour or From the fourth day passed till to this hour, I was praying and fasting in the ninth hour in mine house. And lo! a man stood before me in a white cloth (or a man stood before me in a white cloak),

³¹ and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine almsdeeds be in mind in the sight of God (or and thy acts of charity be remembered before God).

³² Therefore send thou into Joppa, and call Simon, that is named Peter; this (man) is harboured in the house of Simon (the) currier, beside the sea. This (man), when he shall come, shall speak to thee.

³³ Therefore anon I sent to thee (or And so at once I sent for thee), and thou didest well in coming to us. Now therefore we all be present in thy sight, to hear the words, whatever be commanded to thee of the Lord.

³⁴ And Peter opened his mouth, and said, In truth I have found, that God is no acceptor of persons, (or In truth I have found, that God hath no favourites among people);

³⁵ but in each folk he that dreadeth God, and worketh rightwiseness, is accept(able) to him. (but among all people and every nation, he who hath fearful reverence for God, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him.)

³⁶ God sent a word to the children of Israel, showing peace by Jesus Christ; this is (the) Lord of all things, or this is the Lord of all men, (or he is the Lord of everyone).

³⁷ Ye know the word that is made (or the tidings that be told) through(out) all Judea, and (that) began at Galilee, after the baptism that John preached, (about) Jesus of Nazareth;

³⁸ how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost, and virtue; which passed forth in doing well or which passed forth in well-doing, and healing all men oppressed of the devil, for God was with him. (how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit, and with power; and he went forth doing good, and healing everyone oppressed by the Devil, for God was with him.)

³⁹ And we be witnesses of all things, which he did in the country of (the) Jews, and of Jerusalem; whom they slew, hanging on a tree.

⁴⁰ And God raised this (man) in (or on) the third day, and gave him to be made known,

⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses before-ordained of God; to us that ate and drank with him, after that he rose again from death or after that he rose again from (the) dead.

⁴² And he commanded to us to preach to the people, and to witness, that he it is, that is ordained of God doomsman of the quick and of the dead. (And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify, that it is he, who is ordained by God to be the Judge of the living and of the dead.)

⁴³ To this all (the) prophets bear witnessing or To this all prophets bear witness, that all men that believe in him, shall receive remission of sins by his name. (And all the prophets testify about him, that all who believe in him, shall receive forgiveness for their sins through his name.)

⁴⁴ And yet while that Peter spake these words, the Holy Ghost felled on all that heard the word. (And while Peter spoke these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word.)

⁴⁵ And the faithful men of (the) circumcision, that came with Peter, wondered, that also into nations the grace of the Holy Ghost is shed out. (And the faithful men of the circumcision, who came with Peter, wondered and were amazed, that the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on heathen men, that is, upon the Gentiles.)

⁴⁶ For they heard them speaking in languages or speaking with tongues, and magnifying God. Then Peter answered (or Then Peter asked),

⁷ And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,

⁸ and having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa.

⁹ And on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour,

¹⁰ and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance,

¹¹ and he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth,

¹² in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven,

¹³ and there came a voice unto him: 'Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.'

¹⁴ And Peter said, 'Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;'

¹⁵ and there is a voice again a second time unto him: 'What God did cleanse, thou, declare not thou common;'

¹⁶ and this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven.

¹⁷ And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, lo, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

¹⁸ and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here?

¹⁹ And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, 'Lo, three men do seek thee;

²⁰ but having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;'

²¹ and Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, 'Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what is the cause for which ye are present?'

²² And they said, 'Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.'

²³ Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him,

²⁴ and on the morrow they did enter into Caesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends,

²⁵ and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at his feet, did bow before him;

²⁶ and Peter raised him, saying, 'Stand up; I also myself am a man;'

²⁷ and talking with him he went in, and doth find many having come together.

²⁸ And he said unto them, 'Ye know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come unto, one of another race, but to me God did shew to call no man common or unclean;

²⁹ therefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?'

³⁰ And Cornelius said, 'Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and at the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

³¹ and he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God;

³² send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee;

³³ at once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.'

³⁴ And Peter having opened his mouth, said, 'Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

³⁵ but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;

³⁶ the word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news — peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,)

³⁷ ye — ye have known; — the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;

³⁸ Jesus who is from Nazareth — how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;

³⁹ and we — we are witnesses of all things that he did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, — whom they did slay, having hanged upon a tree.

⁴⁰ 'This one God did raise up the third day, and gave him to become manifest,

⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God — to us who did eat with him, and did drink with him, after his rising out of the dead;

⁴² and he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify fully that it is he who hath been ordained by God judge of living and dead —

⁴³ to this one do all the prophets testify, that through his name every one that is believing in him doth receive remission of sins.'

⁴⁴ While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word,

⁴⁵ and those of the circumcision believing were astonished — as many as came with Peter — because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit hath been poured out,

⁴⁶ for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.
