1 Kings 4:1-7 in English

¹ And king Solomon was king over all Israel.

² And these were the princes whom he had: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest;

³ Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder;

⁴ and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the host; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

⁵ and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabud the son of Nathan was chief minister, and the king’s friend;

⁶ and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the men subject to taskwork.

⁷ And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided victuals for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year.

¹ And king Solomon reigned over Israel.

² And these are the princes which he had; Azarias son of Sadoc.

³ Eliaph, and Achia son of Seba, scribes; and Josaphat son of Achilud, recorder.

⁴ And Banæas son of Jodae over the host; and Sadoc and Abiathar were priests.

⁵ And Ornia the son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabuth son of Nathan was the king's friend.

⁶ And Achisar was steward, and Eliac the chief steward; and Eliab the son of Saph was over the family: and Adoniram the son of Audon over the tribute.

⁷ And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, to provide for the king and his household; each one's turn came to supply for a month in the year.

¹ Solomon was the king who ruled all of Israel,

² and these were his most important officials: Zadok's son Azariah was the priest.

³ Shisha's sons Elihoreph and Ahijah were the official secretaries. Ahilud's son Jehoshaphat was the one who announced to the people the king's decisions.

⁴ Benaiah was the commander of the army. Zadok and Abiathar were also priests.

⁵ Nathan's son Azariah was the administrator of the governors. Another of Nathan's sons, Zabud, was a priest and the king's chief advisor.

⁶ Ahishar supervised the servants who worked in the palace. Abda's son Adoniram supervised the men who were forced to do work for the government.

⁷ Solomon appointed twelve men, one to govern each of the regions in Israel. They also were required to provide food for the king and all the others who lived and worked in the palace. Each man was required to provide from his own region the food for one month each year.

⁵ Azariah, the son of Nathan, was over those in authority in the different divisions of the country; Zabud, the son of Nathan, was priest and the king's friend;

⁶ Ahishar was controller of the king's house; Adoniram, the son of Abda, was overseer of the forced work.

⁷ And Solomon put twelve overseers over all Israel, to be responsible for the stores needed for the king and those of his house; every man was responsible for one month in the year.

⁵ and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the superintendents; and Zabud the son of Nathan was principal officer, the king's friend;

⁶ and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the levy-service.

⁷ And Solomon had twelve superintendents over all Israel; and they provided food for the king and his household: each man his month in the year had to make provision.

⁷ And Solomon had twelve governors over all Israel, who provided victuals for the king and for his household: for every one provided necessaries, each man his month in the year.

¹ King Solomon ruled over all of Israel.

² These were his officials: Azariah, son of Zadok, was the priest;

³ Elihoreph and Ahijah, sons of Shisha, were the king's secretaries. Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, kept the royal records.

⁴ Benaiah son of Jehoiada was the army commander. Zadok and Abiathar were priests.

⁵ Azariah, son of Nathan, was in charge of the governors. Zabud, son of Nathan, was a priest and the king's counselor.

⁶ Ahishar was the palace manager. Adoniram, son of Abda, was in charge of those forced to work for the king.

⁷ Solomon had twelve area governors whose responsibilities covered the whole of Israel, providing food for the king and his household. Each one in turn arranged supplies for one month of the year.

¹ And King Salomon was King ouer all Israel.

² And these were his princes, Azariah the sonne of Zadok the Priest,

³ Elihoreph and Ahiah the sonnes of Shisha scribes, Iehoshaphat the sonne of Ahilud, the recorder,

⁴ And Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada was ouer the hoste, and Zadok and Abiathar Priests,

⁵ And Azariah the sonne of Nathan was ouer the officers, and Zabud the sonne of Nathan Priest was the Kings friend,

⁶ And Ahishar was ouer the houshold: and Adoniram the sonne of Abda was ouer the tribute.

⁷ And Salomon had twelue officers ouer all Israel, which prouided vitailes for the King and his housholde: eche man had a moneth in the yeere to prouide vitailes.

¹ And king Solomon was king over all Israel.

⁵ And Azaryahu the son of Nathan was over the superintendents; and Zabud the son of Nathan was an officer of state and the king's friend;

⁶ And Achishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of 'Abda was over the tribute.

⁷ And Solomon had twelve superintendents over all Israel, who provided for the king and his household: one month in the year had the particular one to procure provisions.

⁴ Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was prince upon the host; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

⁵ Azariah, the son of Nathan, was upon them that stood nigh to the king; Zabud, the son of Nathan, was a priest, a friend of the king;

⁶ and Ahishar was steward of the house; and Adoniram, the son of Abda, was upon the tributes.

⁷ Forsooth Solomon had twelve prefects, either chief ministers, on all Israel, that gave lifelode to the king, and to his house; soothly by each month by itself in the year, each prefect by himself ministered necessaries.

¹ Forsooth king Solomon was reigning on all Israel.

² And these were the princes which he had; Azariah, the son of Zadok, the priest; (And these were the leaders that he had; Azariah, the son of Zadok, was the priest who was over-the-year, that is, the calendar of events;)

³ Elihoreph, and Ahiah, (the) sons of Shisha, were scribes; Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, was chancellor;

⁴ Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was prince upon the host (or was the leader of the army); and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

⁵ Azariah, the son of Nathan, was upon them that stood nigh to the king (or was over those who stood close to the king, or was over the regional governors); Zabud, the son of Nathan, was a priest, a friend of the king;

⁶ and Ahishar was steward of the house; and Adoniram, the son of Abda, was upon the tributes (or was in charge of the taxes, or the levies, or was in charge of the forced labour).

⁷ Forsooth Solomon had twelve prefects, either chief ministers, on all Israel, that gave lifelode to the king, and to his house; soothly by each month by itself in the year, each prefect by himself ministered necessaries. (And Solomon had twelve prefects, or chief ministers, over all Israel, who gave sustenance, or food, to the king, and to his household; and each month of the year, one prefect by himself administered the necessities.)

² and these are the heads whom he hath: Azariah son of Zadok is the priest;

³ Elihoreph and Ahiah sons of Shisha are scribes; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud is remembrancer;

⁴ and Benaiah son of Jehoiada is over the host; and Zadok and Abiathar are priests;

⁵ and Azariah son of Nathan is over the officers; and Zabud son of Nathan is minister, friend of the king;

⁶ And Ahishar is over the household, and Adoniram son of Abda is over the tribute.

⁷ And Solomon hath twelve officers over all Israel, and they have sustained the king and his household — a month in the year is on each one for sustenance;
