Psalms 89:20-43 in American Standard Version (1901)

20 I have found David my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him:
21 With whom my hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not exact from him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23 And I will beat down his adversaries before him, And smite them that hate him.
24 But my faithfulness and my lovingkindness shall be with him; And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
25 I will set his hand also on the sea, And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.
27 I also will make him my first-born, The highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My lovingkindness will I keep for him for evermore; And my covenant shall stand fast with him.
29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, And his throne as the days of heaven.
30 If his children forsake my law, And walk not in mine ordinances;
31 If they break my statutes, And keep not my commandments;
32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes.
33 But my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
34 My covenant will I not break, Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:
36 His seed shall endure for ever, And his throne as the sun before me.
37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, And as the faithful witness in the sky. Selah
38 But thou hast cast off and rejected, Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
39 Thou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant: Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
41 All that pass by the way rob him: He is become a reproach to his neighbors.
42 Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries; Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
43 Yea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword, And hast not made him to stand in the battle.

Psalms 89:20-43 in Translation for Translators

20 That man is David, the one who will serve me faithfully, and I anointed him with sacred olive oil to make him king.
21 I MTY will always strengthen him; with my power MTY I will make him strong.
22 His enemies will never find ways to defeat him, and wicked people will never defeat him.
23 I will crush his enemies in front of him and get rid of those who hate him.
24 I will always be loyal to him and faithfully love him and enable him to defeat MET his enemies.
25 I will cause ◄his kingdom/the area that he rules► to include all the land from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River.
26 He will say to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the one who protects MET and saves me.’
27 I will give him the rights/privileges that a man's firstborn son has MET; he will be the greatest king on the earth.
28 I will always be loyal to him, and my agreement to bless him will last forever.
29 I will establish a line of his descendants that will never end, various ones of his descendants will always be kings.
30 But, if some of his descendants disobey my laws, and do not not behave like my commands say that they should,
31 if they disregard my requirements and do not do the right things that I have told them to do,
32 I will punish them severely MTY and cause them to suffer for doing wrong.
33 But I will not stop faithfully loving David, and I will always do what I promised him.
34 I will not break the agreement that I made with him; I will not change even one word that I spoke to him.
35 Once I made a solemn promise to David, and that will never change, and because I am God, I will never lie to David.
36 I promised that the line of kings descended from him will go on forever; it will last as long as the sun shines.
37 That line will ◄be as permanent/last as long► as the moon that is always watching everything from the sky.
38 But Yahweh, now you have rejected DOU David! You are very angry with the king whom you appointed.
39 It seems that you have broken the agreement that you made with your servant, David; it seems as though you have signaled hat he is no longer the king by throwing his crown into the dust/dirt.
40 You have torn down the walls that protect his city, and allowed all his forts to become ruins.
41 All those who pass by plunder/steal his possessions; his neighbors ◄laugh at/ridicule► him.
42 You have enabled his enemies to defeat him; you have made them all happy.
43 You have caused his sword to become useless, and you have not helped him in his battles.

Psalms 89:20-43 in Bible in Basic English

20 I have made discovery of David my servant; I have put my holy oil on his head.
21 My hand will be his support; my arm will give him strength.
22 The deceit of those who are against him will not overcome him; he will not be troubled by the sons of evil.
23 I will have those who are against him broken before his face, and his haters will be crushed under my blows.
24 But my faith and my mercy will be with him; and in my name will his horn be lifted up.
25 I will put his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
26 He will say to me, You are my father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.
27 And I will make him the first of my sons, most high over the kings of the earth.
28 I will keep my mercy for him for ever; my agreement with him will not be changed.
29 His seed will keep their place for ever; his kingdom will be eternal, like the heavens.
30 If his children give up my law, and are not ruled by my decisions;
31 If my rules are broken, and my orders are not kept;
32 Then I will send punishment on them for their sin; my rod will be the reward of their evil-doing.
33 But I will not take away my mercy from him, and will not be false to my faith.
34 I will be true to my agreement; the things which have gone out of my lips will not be changed.
35 I have made an oath once by my holy name, that I will not be false to David.
36 His seed will not come to an end for ever; the seat of his kingdom will be like the sun before me.
37 It will be fixed for ever like the moon; and the witness in heaven is true. (Selah.)
38 But you have put him away in disgust; you have been angry with the king of your selection.
39 You have made your agreement with your servant of no effect: you have had no respect for his crown, it has come down even to the earth.
40 All his walls are broken down; you have given his strong towers to destruction.
41 All those who come by take away his goods; he is laughed at by his neighbours.
42 You have given power to the right hand of his haters; you have made glad all those who are against him.
43 His sword is turned back; you have not been his support in the fight.

40 (89-41) Thou hast broken down all his fences; Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
41 (89-42) All that pass by the way spoil him; he is become a taunt to his neighbours.
42 (89-43) Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries; Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
43 (89-44) Yea, Thou turnest back the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

Psalms 89:20-43 in KJV Cambridge Paragraph Bible

20 I have found David my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him:
21 With whom my hand shall be established: Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not exact upon him; Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23 And I will beat down his foes before his face, And plague them that hate him.
24 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
25 I will set his hand also in the sea, And his right hand in the rivers.
26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.
27 Also I will make him my firstborn, Higher than the kings of the earth.
28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, And my covenant shall stand fast with him.
29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, And his throne as the days of heaven.
30 If his children forsake my law, And walk not in my judgments;
31 If they break my statutes, And keep not my commandments;
32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes.
33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
34 My covenant will I not break, Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness That I will not lie unto David.
36 His seed shall endure for ever, And his throne as the sun before me.

20 (89:21) I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him;
21 (89:22) With whom my hand shall be firmly established; also my arm shall strengthen him;
22 (89:23) The enemy shall not exact from him like a lender: and the son of injustice shall not afflict him:
23 (89:24) And I will beat down before his face his assailants, and those that hate him will I plague.
24 (89:25) But my faithfulness and my kindness shall be with him: and through my name shall his horn be exalted.
25 (89:26) And I will place on the sea his hand, and on the rivers his right hand.
26 (89:27) He will call unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
27 (89:28) Also I will appoint my first-born, the highest among the kings of the earth.
28 (89:29) For evermore will I keep for him my kindness, and my covenant shall stand faithfully with him.
29 (89:30) And I appoint for ever his seed, and his throne as the days of heaven.
30 (89:31) If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my ordinances;
31 (89:32) If they profane my statutes, and keep not my commandments:
32 (89:33) Then will I visit with the rod their transgressions, and with plagues their iniquity.
33 (89:34) Nevertheless my kindness will I not make utterly void from him, and I will not act falsely against my faithfulness.
34 (89:35) I will not profane my covenant, and what is gone out of my lips will I not alter.
35 (89:36) One thing have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie unto David.
36 (89:37) His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne shall be like the sun before me.
37 (89:38) Like the moon shall it be firmly established for ever, and as this faithful witness in the sky.” Selah.
38 (89:39) And yet thou hast east off and despised, thou hast become wroth with thy anointed.
39 (89:40) Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned, down to the ground, his crown.
40 (89:41) Thou hast broken down all his fences: thou hast brought his strong-holds to terror.
41 (89:42) All that pass by the way plunder him: he is become a reproach to his neighbors.
42 (89:43) Thou hast raised up the right hand of his assailants: thou hast caused all his enemies to rejoice.
43 (89:44) Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not let him stand erect in the battle.

20 I have found David, my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him.
21 With him shall my hand be established, And my arm shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not have power over him, Nor shall the unrighteous man oppress him.
23 For I will beat down his foes before him, And overthrow them that hate him.
24 My faithfulness and mercy shall be with him, And through my name shall his horn be exalted.

Psalms 89:20-43 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

20 I found David, my servant; I anointed him with mine holy oil.
21 For mine hand shall help him; and mine arm shall confirm him.
22 The enemy shall nothing profit in him; and the son of wickedness shall not lay to or put to, for to annoy him.
23 And I shall slay his enemies from his face; and I shall turn into flight them that hate him.
24 And my truth and mercy shall be with him; and his horn shall be enhanced in my name.
25 And I shall set or put his hand in the sea; and his right hand in floods.
26 He shall inwardly call me, Thou art my father; my God, and the up-taker of mine health.
27 And I shall set him the first be-gotten son; higher than the kings of earth.
28 Without end I shall keep my mercy to him; and my testament faithful to him.
29 And I shall set his seed into the world of world; and his throne as the days of heaven.
30 Forsooth if his sons forsake my law; and go not in my dooms.
31 If they make unholy my rightful-nesses; and keep not my command-ments.
32 I shall visit in a rod the wicked-nesses of them; and in beatings the sins of them.
33 But I shall not scatter my mercy from him; and in my truth I shall not annoy him.
34 Neither I shall make unholy my testament; and I shall not make void those things that come forth of my lips.
35 Once I swore in mine holiness, I shall not lie to David;
36 his seed shall dwell without end. And his throne as the sun in my sight,
37 and as a perfect moon without end; and a faithful witness in heaven.
38 But thou hast put away, and despised; and hast delayed thy christ.
39 Thou hast turned away the testa-ment of thy servant; thou madest unholy his saintuary in earth.
40 Thou destroyedest all the hedges thereof; thou hast set the steadfastness thereof into dread.
41 All men passing by the way ravished him; he is made a shame to his neighbours.
42 Thou hast enhanced the right hand of men oppressing him; thou hast gladdened all his enemies.
43 Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and thou helpedest not him in battle.

24 And my truth and mercy shall be with him; and his horn shall be enhanced in my name. (And my faithfulness and love shall be with him; and in my name his horn shall be exalted or his head shall be lifted up on high.)
25 And I shall set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in floods. (And I shall extend his power unto the Mediterranean Sea; and his right hand unto the Euphrates River.)
26 He shall inwardly call me, (saying), Thou art my father; my God, and the up-taker of mine health. (And he shall say to me, Thou art my father; yea, my God, and my defender, my saviour.)
27 And I shall set him the first begotten son; higher than the kings of earth. (And I shall make him my first-born son; higher than all the kings of the earth.)
28 Into Without end I shall keep my mercy to him; and my testament faithful to him. (I shall hold onto my love for him forever; and faithfully keep my covenant with him.)
29 And I shall set his seed into the world of world; and his throne as the days of heaven. (And I shall establish his descendants forever and ever; and his throne for as long as the days of the heavens, that is, for as long as the heavenly bodies endure.)
30 Forsooth if his sons forsake my law; and go not in my dooms. (But if his sons abandon my Law; and do not go in my judgements.)
31 If they make unholy my rightfulnesses; and keep not my commandments. (If they break my statutes; and do not obey my commandments.)
32 I shall visit in a rod the wickednesses of them; and in beatings the sins of them. (Then I shall punish their wickednesses with a rod; and their sins with beatings.)
33 But I shall not scatter my mercy from him; and in my truth I shall not harm him. (But I shall not take away my love from him; and I shall be faithful to him.)
34 Neither I shall make unholy my testament; and I shall not make void those things that come forth of my lips. (Nor shall I break my covenant; and I shall not make void those things which come forth from my lips, that is, I shall not break my promises.)
35 Once I swore in mine holiness, I shall not lie to David; (Once I swore by my holiness, that I would never lie to David;)
36 his seed shall dwell into without end. And his throne as the sun in my sight, (his children, that is, his descendants, shall live forever. And his throne shall be before me like the sun,)
37 and as a perfect moon without end; and a faithful witness in heaven. (and like the moon, which shall endure forever; yea, like a faithful witness in the heavens.)
38 But thou hast put away, and despised; and hast delayed thy christ. (But thou hast rejected, and despised, and hast raged against thy anointed king.)
39 Thou hast turned away the testament of thy servant; thou madest unholy his saintuary in earth. (Thou hast made void the covenant with thy servant; thou hast defiled his crown, and hast thrown it to the ground.)
40 Thou destroyedest all the hedges thereof; thou hast set the steadfastness thereof (into) dread (or thou hast brought down his strongholds, or his fortresses, into ruin).
41 All men passing by the way ravished him; he is made (a) shame to his neighbours. (All who pass by him, on the way, rob him; he is shamed by his neighbours.)
42 Thou hast enhanced the right hand of men oppressing him; thou hast gladdened all his enemies.
43 Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and thou helpedest not him in battle. (Thou hast turned away the help from his sword; and thou hast not helped him in the battle.)

Psalms 89:20-43 in Young's Literal Translation

20 I have found David My servant, With My holy oil I have anointed him.
21 With whom My hand is established, My arm also doth strengthen him.
22 An enemy exacteth not upon him, And a son of perverseness afflicteth him not.
23 And I have beaten down before him his adversaries, And those hating him I plague,
24 And My faithfulness and kindness are with him, And in My name is his horn exalted.
25 And I have set on the sea his hand, And on the rivers his right hand.
26 He proclaimeth me: 'Thou art my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.'
27 I also first-born do appoint him, Highest of the kings of the earth.
28 To the age I keep for him My kindness, And My covenant is stedfast with him.
29 And I have set his seed for ever, And his throne as the days of the heavens.
30 If his sons forsake My law, And in My judgments do not walk;
31 If My statutes they pollute, And My commands do not keep,
32 I have looked after with a rod their transgression, And with strokes their iniquity,
33 And My kindness I break not from him, Nor do I deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 I profane not My covenant, And that which is going forth from My lips I change not.
35 Once I have sworn by My holiness, I lie not to David,
36 His seed is to the age, And his throne is as the sun before Me,
37 As the moon it is established — to the age, And the witness in the sky is stedfast. Selah.
38 And Thou, Thou hast cast off, and dost reject, Thou hast shown Thyself wroth With Thine anointed,
39 Hast rejected the covenant of Thy servant, Thou hast polluted to the earth his crown,
40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges, Thou hast made his fenced places a ruin.
41 Spoiled him have all passing by the way, He hath been a reproach to his neighbours,
42 Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries, Thou hast caused all his enemies to rejoice.
43 Also — Thou turnest back the sharpness of his sword, And hast not established him in battle,
