Psalms 69:8-12 in English

⁸ I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother’s children.

⁹ For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.

¹⁰ When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, That was to my reproach.

¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword unto them.

¹² They that sit in the gate talk of me; And I am the song of the drunkards.

⁸ I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.

⁹ Some people have despised your temple; but my zeal for keeping your temple holy is like a fire burning inside me. So it is as though those who are insulting you are also insulting me.

¹⁰ When I have humbled myself and ◄fasted/abstained from eating food► to show my sadness about the disgraceful things that they have done to your temple, they just insult me.

¹¹ When I put on rough sackcloth to show that I am sad, they laugh at IDM me.

¹² Even the elders of the city say bad things about me. The drunkards of the city sing disgusting songs about me.

⁹ I am on fire with passion for your house; and the hard things which are said about you have come on me.

¹⁰ My bitter weeping, and my going without food, were turned to my shame.

¹¹ When I put on the clothing of grief, they said evil of me.

¹² I am a cause of wonder to those in authority; a song to those who are given to strong drink.

⁸ I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's sons;

⁹ For the zeal of thy house hath devoured me, and the reproaches of them that reproach thee have fallen upon me.

¹⁰ And I wept, my soul was fasting: that also was to my reproach; —

¹¹ And I made sackcloth my garment: then I became a proverb to them.

¹² They that sit in the gate talk of me, and I am the song of the drunkards.

⁸ I have become a foreigner to my brother Israelites; a stranger to my very own brothers.

⁹ My devotion for your house is burning me up inside; the insults of those who insulted you have fallen on me.

¹⁰ I wept and I fasted, but they mocked me;

¹¹ I mourned in sackcloth, but they laughed at me.

¹² People sitting by the town gate gossip about me. I'm the subject of rude songs sung by drunks.

⁸ I am become a stranger vnto my brethren, euen an aliant vnto my mothers sonnes.

⁹ For the zeale of thine house hath eaten mee, and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee, are fallen vpon me.

¹⁰ I wept and my soule fasted, but that was to my reproofe.

¹¹ I put on a sacke also: and I became a prouerbe vnto them.

¹² They that sate in the gate, spake of mee, and the drunkards sang of me.

¹⁰ (69-11) And I wept with my soul fasting, and that became unto me a reproach.

¹¹ (69:12) And when I made sackcloth my garment, I became a proverb to them.

¹² (69:13) Those that sit in the gate talk against me; and about me make songs the drinkers of strong drink.

⁸ I am become a stranger to my brothers; Yea, an alien to my mother's sons.

⁹ For zeal for thy house consumeth me, And the reproaches of them that reproach thee fall upon me.

¹⁰ When I weep and fast, That is made my reproach;

¹¹ When I clothe myself in sackcloth, Then I become their by-word.

¹² They who sit in the gate speak against me, And I am become the song of drunkards.

⁸ I became to my kindred a foreigner, to my mother's sons a stranger.

⁹ It was zeal for your house that consumed me, and the insults they hurled at you fell upon me.

¹⁰ When I chastened myself with fasting, they took occasion to taunt me.

¹¹ When I put on a garment of sackcloth, they made me the theme of a taunt-song.

¹² Those who sit in the gate make sport of me in the music of drunken songs.

⁸ I became to my kindred a foreigner, to my mother's sons a stranger.

⁹ It was zeal for your house that consumed me, and the insults they hurled at you fell upon me.

¹⁰ When I chastened myself with fasting, they took occasion to taunt me.

¹¹ When I put on a garment of sackcloth, they made me the theme of a taunt-song.

¹² Those who sit in the gate make sport of me in the music of drunken songs.

⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s children.

⁹ For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those insulting you have fallen on me.

⁹ For the fervent love of thine house ate me; and the shames of men saying shames to thee fell on me.

¹⁰ And I covered my soul with fasting; and it was made into shame to me.

¹¹ And I putted or put for my cloth an hair-shirt; and I am made to them into a parable.

¹² They, that sat in the gate, spake against me; and they, that drank wine, sang of me.

⁸ I am made a stranger to my brethren; and a pilgrim to the sons of my mother.

⁹ For the fervent love of thine house ate me (or For my fervent love for thy House ate me up, or devoured me); and the shames of men saying shames to thee fell on me.

¹⁰ And I covered my soul with fasting; and it was made into shame to me. (I humbled myself by fasting; and I was reproached for even that.)

¹¹ And I putted (for) my cloth an hair-shirt; and I am made to them into a parable. (I had a hair-shirt for my cloak; and for that, I am made into their parable.)

¹² They, that sat in the gate, spake against me; and they, that drank wine, sang of me. (They, who sat by the gate, spoke against me; and they, who drank wine, sang about me.)

⁸ A stranger I have been to my brother, And a foreigner to sons of my mother.

⁹ For zeal for Thy house hath consumed me, And the reproaches of Thy reproachers Have fallen upon me.

¹⁰ And I weep in the fasting of my soul, And it is for a reproach to me.

¹¹ And I make my clothing sackcloth, And I am to them for a simile.

¹² Those sitting at the gate meditate concerning me, And those drinking strong drink, Play on instruments.
