¹² They that sit in the gate talk of me; And I am the song of the drunkards.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time: O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness, Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

¹⁵ Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

¹⁶ Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.

¹⁷ And hide not thy face from thy servant; For I am in distress; answer me speedily.

¹⁸ Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: Ransom me because of mine enemies.

¹⁹ Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: Mine adversaries are all before thee.

²⁰ Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.

²¹ They gave me also gall for my food; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

²² Let their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, let it become a trap.

²³ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see; And make their loins continually to shake.

²⁵ Let their habitation be desolate; Let none dwell in their tents.

¹² Even the elders of the city say bad things about me. The drunkards of the city sing disgusting songs about me.

¹³ But Yahweh, I will continue praying to you. At the time that you choose, answer me and rescue me because you faithfully love me.

¹⁴ Do not allow me to sink anymore in the mud. Rescue me from those who hate me! Lift me up out of these deep waters!

¹⁵ Do not allow flood waters to swirl around me, do not allow the deep mud to swallow me; keep me from sinking into the pit of death MET.

¹⁶ O Yahweh, answer my prayer and help me because you are good and love me faithfully.

¹⁷ Do not ◄hide yourself from/refuse to hear► me; answer me quickly because I am in great trouble.

¹⁸ Come near to me and save me; rescue me from my enemies.

¹⁹ You know that I am insulted and that people cause me to feel ashamed and dishonored; you know who all my enemies are.

²⁰ Their insults have deeply offended me, and I ◄feel helpless/am in despair►. I searched for someone who would pity me, but there was no one. I wanted someone to encourage/comfort me, but there were none.

²¹ Instead, they gave me food that tasted like poison, and when I was thirsty, they gave me sour wine to drink.

²² I hope/desire that the feasts MTY that they enjoy will ◄become a snare for/bring trouble to► them, and that those whom they invite to the sacrificial feasts will also be trapped.

²³ I hope/desire that their eyesight will become dim so that they cannot see anything, and that their backs/bodies will become weaker and weaker.

²⁴ Show them that you are very angry with them! Because of your great/furious anger, chase after them and catch them.

²⁵ Cause their towns to become abandoned/deserted and that there will be no one left to live in their tents/houses.

²⁶ Do this because they persecute those whom you have punished, ◄they talk about the sins of/they want to hurt even more► those whom you have wounded.

²⁷ Keep making a record of all their sins, do not acquit/pardon them for the evil things that they have done.

²⁸ Erase their names SYN from the book containing the names of those who have eternal life; do not include them in the list of righteous people.

²⁹ As for me, I have pain and am suffering. O God, protect me and rescue me.

³⁰ When God does that, I will sing as I praise God, and I will honor him by thanking him.

³¹ My doing that will please Yahweh more than sacrificing oxen, more than offering him full-grown bulls.

³² Oppressed/Afflicted people will see that God has rescued me, and they will be glad. I want all of you who ask God to help you to be encouraged.

¹² I am a cause of wonder to those in authority; a song to those who are given to strong drink.

¹³ But as for me, let my prayer be made to you, O Lord, at a time when you are pleased; O God, give me an answer in your great mercy, for your salvation is certain.

¹⁴ Take me from the grip of the sticky earth, so that I may not go down into it; let me be lifted up from the deep waters.

¹⁵ Let me not be covered by the flowing waters; let not the deep waters go over my head, and let me not be shut up in the underworld.

¹⁶ Give an answer to my words, O Lord; for your mercy is good: be turned to me, because of your great pity.

¹⁷ Let not your face be covered from your servant, for I am in trouble; quickly give me an answer.

¹⁸ Come near to my soul, for its salvation: be my saviour, because of those who are against me.

¹⁹ You have seen my shame, how I was laughed at and made low; my haters are all before you.

²⁰ My heart is broken by bitter words, I am full of grief; I made a search for some to have pity on me, but there was no one; I had no comforter.

²¹ They gave me poison for my food; and bitter wine for my drink.

²² Let their table before them be for their destruction; let their feasts become a net to take them.

²³ Let their eyes be blind so that they may not see; let their bodies for ever be shaking.

²⁴ Let your curse come on them; let the heat of your wrath overtake them.

²⁵ Give their houses to destruction, and let there be no one in their tents.

²⁶ Because they are cruel to him against whom your hand is turned; they make bitter the grief of him who is wounded by you.

²⁷ Let their punishment be increased; let them not come into your righteousness.

²⁸ Let their names be taken from the book of the living, let them not be numbered with the upright.

²⁹ But I am poor and full of sorrow; let me be lifted up by your salvation, O Lord.

³⁰ I will give praise to the name of God with a song; I will give glory to him for what he has done.

³¹ This will be more pleasing to the Lord than an ox, or a young ox of full growth.

³² The poor will see it and be glad: you who are lovers of God, let your hearts have life.

³² The meek shall see it, they shall be glad; ye that seek God, your heart shall live.

¹² People sitting by the town gate gossip about me. I'm the subject of rude songs sung by drunks.

¹³ But my prayer is to you, Lord, believing this is a good time to respond to me. God, in your wonderful trustworthy love, answer me with your sure salvation.

¹⁴ Please rescue me from the mud—don't let me sink! Save me from those who hate me and from drowning in the deep waters!

¹⁵ Don't let the flood waters wash over me. Don't let the deep waters pull me down. Don't let the grave close over me.

¹⁶ Please answer my prayers, Lord, for you are good and love me with your trustworthy love; because of your kindness, please help me.

¹⁷ Don't turn away from me, your servant. Please answer me quickly because I'm in trouble.

¹⁸ Come here and rescue me; set me free from my enemies.

¹⁹ You—you know my shame, my disgrace, my humiliation. You see everything my enemies are doing.

²⁰ Insults have broken my heart—I am so sick there is no cure. I looked for some sympathy, but there was no one! Nobody showed me any compassion.

²¹ Instead they gave me bitter herbs to eat and vinegar to drink.

²² May the table set before them become a trap for them, a net that catches them, bringing punishment.

²³ May their eyes become blind so they cannot see, and may their backs always be bent low in dejection.

²⁴ Pour out your judgment on them; chase them down in your fierce anger.

²⁵ Let the places where they live be deserted. Let their homes be abandoned.

²⁶ For they persecute those you have punished, and make it even more painful for those you have disciplined.

²⁷ Punish them for the evil they have done. Don't acquit them.

²⁸ Blot out their names from the Book of Life. Don't let them be listed with those who do right.

²⁹ But I am suffering and in physical pain. God, please save me and keep me safe.

³⁰ I will praise God's character in song; I will say how incredible he is and how thankful I am.

³¹ The Lord is happier with this than with offering animals as sacrifices: cattle, or bulls with horns and hooves.

³² The humble will see this and be happy. May God encourage everyone who comes to him.

¹² They that sate in the gate, spake of mee, and the drunkards sang of me.

¹³ But Lord, I make my praier vnto thee in an acceptable time, euen in the multitude of thy mercie: O God, heare me in the trueth of thy saluation.

¹⁴ Deliuer mee out of the myre, that I sinke not: let me be deliuered from them that hate me, and out of the deepe waters.

²¹ For they gaue me gall in my meate, and in my thirst they gaue me vineger to drinke.

²² Let their table be a snare before them, and their prosperitie their ruine.

²³ Let their eyes be blinded that they see not: and make their loynes alway to tremble.

²⁴ Powre out thine anger vpon them, and let thy wrathfull displeasure take them.

²⁵ Let their habitation be voide, and let none dwell in their tents.

²⁶ For they persecute him, whome thou hast smitten: and they adde vnto the sorrowe of them, whome thou hast wounded.

²⁷ Laie iniquitie vpon their iniquitie, and let them not come into thy righteousnesse.

²⁸ Let them be put out of the booke of life, neither let them be written with the righteous.

²⁹ When I am poore and in heauinesse, thine helpe, O God, shall exalt me.

³⁰ I will praise the Name of God with a song, and magnifie him with thankesgiuing.

³¹ This also shall please the Lord better then a yong bullocke, that hath hornes and hoofes.

³² The humble shall see this, and they that seeke God, shalbe glad, and your heart shall liue.

²¹ (69-22) Yea, they put poison into my food; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

²⁵ The habitation of them be made forsaken; and be there none that dwell in the tabernacles of them.

²⁶ For they pursued him, whom thou hast smitten; and they added on the sorrow of my wounds.

²⁷ Add thou wickedness on the wickedness of them; and enter they not into thy rightwiseness.

²⁸ Be they done away from the book of living men; and be they not written with just or rightwise men.

²⁹ I am poor and sorrowful; God, thine health or salvation took me up.

³⁰ I shall praise the name of God with song; and I shall magnify him with praising.

³¹ And it shall please God more than a new calf bringing forth horns and claws.

³² Poor men see, and be glad; seek ye God, and your soul shall live.

¹² They, that sat in the gate, spake against me; and they, that drank wine, sang of me. (They, who sat by the gate, spoke against me; and they, who drank wine, sang about me.)

¹³ But Lord, I (ad) dress my prayer to thee; God, I abide the time of good pleasance. Hear thou me in the multitude of thy mercy; in the truth of thine health. (But Lord, I direct my prayer to thee; O God, I wait for the time of thy good pleasure. Hear thou me because of thy great love; because of the truth of thy salvation or because of the surety of thy deliverance.)

¹⁴ Deliver thou me from the clay, that I be not fast set-in; deliver thou me from them that hate me, and from the depths of waters/and from the deepness of waters. (Rescue thou me from the clay, so that I do not get stuck in it; save thou me from those who hate me, and from the depths of the waters or and from the deep waters.)

¹⁵ The tempest of water drench not me down, neither the depth swallow me; neither the pit make strait his mouth on me. (Let not the tempest of the water drown me, nor let the depths swallow me; let not the pit close its mouth upon me.)

¹⁶ Lord, hear thou me, for thy mercy is benign; after the multitude of thy merciful doings behold thou into me. (Lord, hear thou me, out of the goodness of thy love; and according to the multitude of thy merciful doings, look thou upon me.)

¹⁷ And turn not away thy face from thy servant; for I am in tribulation, hear thou me swiftly, (or for I am in trouble, so answer thou me swiftly).

¹⁸ Give thou attention to my soul, and deliver thou it; for mine enemies, deliver thou me. (Give thou attention to me, and save me; save thou me from my enemies or save thou me, for I have many enemies.)

¹⁹ Thou knowest my reproof, and my despising; and my shame. All that trouble me be in thy sight; (Thou knowest the reproaches, and the despisings, and the shames that I bear. All who trouble me be before thee;)

²⁰ mine heart abode (in) shame, and wretchedness. And I abode him, that was sorry together (with me), and none was; and that should comfort me, and I found not. (shame and wretchedness live in my heart. And I waited for someone, who would be sad together with me, but there was no one; and someone who would comfort me, but I found no one.)

²¹ And they gave gall into my meat; and in my thirst they gave to me drink with vinegar. (And they gave me gall for my food; and for my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink.)

²² The board of them be made before them into a snare; and into yieldings, and into cause of stumbling. (May their own table be made into a snare before them; and may their sacred feasts be made into a trap, yea, the reason for their downfall, or ruin.)

²³ Their eyes be made dark, that they see not; and evermore bow down the back of them. (May their eyes be made dark, or dim, so that they cannot see; and bow down their backs forevermore or and make their backs crooked forevermore.)

²⁴ Shed out thine ire on them; and the strong vengeance of thine ire take them. (Pour out thy anger upon them; and let the fury of thy anger take hold of them.)

²⁶ For they pursued him, whom thou hast smitten; and they added on(to) the sorrow of my wounds. (For they pursued after those whom thou hast struck down; yea, they added to the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded.)

²⁷ Add thou wickedness on(to) the wickedness of them; and enter they not into thy rightwiseness.

²⁸ Be they done away from the book of living men; and be they not written with just men. (Let them be done away from The Book of the Living; and let their names be not written in The List of the Righteous.)

²⁹ I am poor and sorrowful; God, thine health took me up. (I am in pain and full of sorrow; God, lift me up, and save me.)

³⁰ I shall praise the name of God with song; and I shall magnify him with praising.

³¹ And it shall please God more than a new calf bringing forth horns and claws. (And this shall please God more than the offering of a new calf that hath horns and claws.)

³² Poor men see, and be glad; seek ye God, and your soul shall live. (Let the poor see this, and be glad; seek ye God, and ye shall live.)

¹² Those sitting at the gate meditate concerning me, And those drinking strong drink, Play on instruments.

¹³ And I — my prayer is to Thee, O Jehovah, A time of good pleasure, O God, In the abundance of Thy kindness, Answer me in the truth of Thy salvation.

¹⁴ Deliver me from the mire, and let me not sink, Let me be delivered from those hating me, And from deep places of waters.

¹⁵ Let not a flood of waters overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up, Nor let the pit shut her mouth upon me.

¹⁶ Answer me, O Jehovah, for good is Thy kindness, According to the abundance Of Thy mercies turn Thou unto me,

¹⁷ And hide not Thy face from Thy servant, For I am in distress — haste, answer me.

¹⁸ Be near unto my soul — redeem it, Because of mine enemies ransom me.

¹⁹ Thou — Thou hast known my reproach, And my shame, and my blushing, Before Thee are all mine adversaries.

²⁰ Reproach hath broken my heart, and I am sick, And I look for a bemoaner, and there is none, And for comforters, and I have found none.

²¹ And they give for my food gall, And for my thirst cause me to drink vinegar.

²² Their table before them is for a snare, And for a recompence — for a trap.

²³ Darkened are their eyes from seeing, And their loins continually shake Thou.

²⁴ Pour upon them Thine indignation, And the fierceness of Thine anger doth seize them.

²⁵ Their tower is desolated, In their tents there is no dweller.

²⁶ For they have pursued him Thou hast smitten, And recount of the pain of Thy pierced ones.

²⁷ Give punishment for their iniquity, And they enter not into Thy righteousness.

²⁸ They are blotted out of the book of life, And with the righteous are not written.

²⁹ And I am afflicted and pained, Thy salvation, O God, doth set me on high.

³⁰ I praise the name of God with a song, And I magnify Him with thanksgiving,

³¹ And it is better to Jehovah than an ox, A bullock — horned — hoofed.

³² The humble have seen — they rejoice, Ye who seek God — and your heart liveth.
