Psalms 142:3-5 in English

³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walk Have they hidden a snare for me.

⁴ Look on my right hand, and see; For there is no man that knoweth me: Refuge hath failed me; No man careth for my soul.

⁵ I cried unto thee, O Jehovah; I said, Thou art my refuge, My portion in the land of the living.

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead.

⁴ Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me.

⁵ I remembered the days of old; and I meditated on all thy doings: yea, I meditated on the works of thine hands.

³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.

⁴ I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

⁴ I look around, but there is no one who pays attentionto me, no one who will protect me, no one who cares about what happens to me.

⁵ So Yahweh, I cry out to you to help me; you are the one who protects me; and you are all that I need while I am alive.

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead.

⁴ Looking to my right side, I saw no man who was my friend: I had no safe place; no one had any care for my soul.

⁵ I have made my cry to you, O Lord; I have said, You are my safe place, and my heritage in the land of the living.

³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they hidden a snare for me.

⁴ Look on the right hand and see; there is no man that knoweth me: refuge hath failed me; no man careth for my soul.

⁵ I cried unto thee, Jehovah; I said, Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.

³ For the enemy hath persecuted my soul: he hath brought down my life to the earth. He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been dead of old:

⁴ And my spirit is in anguish within me: my heart within me is troubled.

⁵ I remembered the days of old, I meditated on all thy works: I meditated upon the works of thy hands.

³ When I'm totally discouraged, you know the direction I should take. But whichever way I go, people set traps for me.

⁴ I look to my right for someone to support me—but no one pays me any attention. There's no safe place for me—no one cares about me at all.

⁵ I cry out to you, Lord, for help, saying, “You are the one who keeps me safe; you are all I need in life.

³ Though my spirit was in perplexitie in me, yet thou knewest my path: in the way wherein I walked, haue they priuily layde a snare for me.

⁴ I looked vpon my right hand, and beheld, but there was none that would knowe me: all refuge failed me, and none cared for my soule.

⁵ Then cryed I vnto thee, O Lord, and sayde, thou art mine hope, and my portion in the land of the liuing.

³ (142-4) When my spirit fainteth within me — Thou knowest my path — in the way wherein I walk have they hidden a snare for me.

⁴ (142-5) Look on my right hand, and see, for there is no man that knoweth me; I have no way to flee; no man careth for my soul.

⁵ (142-6) I have cried unto Thee, O LORD; I have said: 'Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.'

⁴ (142:5) Look to the right, and behold, yea, there is no man that recognizeth me: every refuge is lost to me; there is no one that careth for my soul.

⁵ (142:6) I cried unto thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of life.

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has brought my life down to the ground; He has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead.

³ When my spirit is weak within me, you know my path. In the way that I walk they have hidden a trap for me.

⁴ I look to my right and and see that there is no one who cares about me. There is no escape for me; no one cares about my life.

⁵ I called out to you, Yahweh; I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.

⁴ I beheld to the right side, and I saw; and none there was that knew me. Flight perished from me; and none there is that seeketh to help my soul.

⁵ Lord, I cried to thee; I said, Thou art mine hope; my part in the land of livers.

³ While my spirit faileth of me; and thou hast known my paths. In this way in which I went; proud men hid a snare to me. (Yea, when my spirit failed within me; thou knewest which path I should take. For on the way in which I went; proud people hid a snare for me.)

⁴ I beheld to the right side, and I saw; and none there was that knew me. Flight perished from me; and none there is that seeketh (to help) my soul. (I looked to the right; and I saw, that there was no one there who knew me. I had no way to escape; there was no one to rescue me.)

⁵ Lord, I cried to thee; I said, Thou art mine hope; my part in the land of livers. (Lord, I cried to thee; I said, Thou art my only hope, my portion in the land of the living.)

³ When my spirit hath been feeble in me, Then Thou hast known my path; In the way in which I walk, They have hid a snare for me.

⁴ Looking on the right hand — and seeing, And I have none recognizing; Perished hath refuge from me, There is none inquiring for my soul.

⁵ I have cried unto thee, O Jehovah, I have said, 'Thou art my refuge, My portion in the land of the living.'
