Psalms 83:1-5 in English

¹ A Song, a Psalm of Asaph. O God, keep not thou silence: Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

² For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult; And they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

³ They take crafty counsel against thy people, And consult together against thy hidden ones.

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; That the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

⁵ For they have consulted together with one consent; Against thee do they make a covenant:

¹ For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Core, concerning the wine-presses.

² How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

³ My soul longs, and faints for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh have exulted in the living God.

⁴ Yea, the sparrow has found himself a home, and the turtle-dove a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

⁵ Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will praise thee evermore. Pause.

¹ God, do not continue to be silent! Do not be quiet and say nothing,

² because your enemies are rioting against you; those who hate you are rebelling against you!

³ They are secretly planning to do things to harm us, your people; they are ◄conspiring together against/planning how to defeat► the people whom you protect.

⁴ They say, “Come, we must destroy their nation, with the result that no one will remember that Israel ever existed!”

⁵ They have agreed on what they want to do to destroy Israel, and they have formed an alliance against you.

⁴ They have said, Come, let us put an end to them as a nation; so that the name of Israel may go out of man's memory.

⁵ For they have all come to an agreement; they are all joined together against you:

² For behold, thine enemies make a tumult; and they that hate thee lift up the head.

³ They take crafty counsel against thy people, and consult against thy hidden ones:

⁴ They say, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, and let the name of Israel be mentioned no more.

⁵ For they have consulted together with one heart: they have made an alliance together against thee.

¹ Unto the end, for the winepresses, a psalm for the sons of Core.

² How lovely are thy tabernacles, O Lord of host!

³ My soul longeth and fainteth for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh have rejoiced in the living God.

⁴ For the sparrow hath found herself a house, and the turtle a nest for herself where she may lay her young ones: Thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God.

⁵ Blessed are they that dwell in thy house, O Lord: they shall praise thee for ever and ever.

¹ A song. A psalm of Asaph. God, please do not stay silent! You can't remain unmoved! God, you must not keep quiet!

² Can't you hear the roars of your enemies? Can't you see how those who hate you are defiantly lifting up their heads?

³ They invent cunning plans to conspire against your people; they plot against those you treasure.

⁴ They say, “Come on! Let's destroy them as a nation so the name ‘Israel’ will be completely forgotten.”

⁵ They all agree in their conspiracy; they've made a treaty together to attack you—

² For lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee, haue lifted vp the head.

³ They haue taken craftie counsell against thy people, and haue consulted against thy secret ones.

⁴ They haue said, Come and let vs cut them off from being a nation: and let the name of Israel be no more in remembrance.

⁵ For they haue consulted together in heart, and haue made a league against thee:

¹ (83-1) A Song, a Psalm of Asaph. (83-2) O God, keep not Thou silence; hold not Thy peace, and be not still, O God.

² (83-3) For, lo, Thine enemies are in an uproar; and they that hate Thee have lifted up the head.

³ (83-4) They hold crafty converse against Thy people, and take counsel against Thy treasured ones.

⁴ (83-5) They have said: 'Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.'

⁵ (83-6) For they have consulted together with one consent; against Thee do they make a covenant;

⁵ (83:6) For they have consulted cordially together; against thee they make a covenant:

¹ For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Korah, concerning the winepresses.

² How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

⁴ Yea, the sparrow has found himself a home, And the turtledove a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, Even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, My King, and my God.

⁴ “Come,” say they, “let us blot them out from the number of the nations, That the name of Israel may no more be remembered!”

⁵ With one consent they consult together, Against thee do they form a league,—

¹ A song, a psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God: hold not your peace, be not still, God.

² For see! Your enemies roar, those who hate you lift up their heads,

³ laying crafty plans for your people, and plotting against those you treasure.

⁴ “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation, so Israel's name will be mentioned no more.”

⁵ For, conspiring with one accord, they have made a league against you

¹ A song, a psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God: hold not your peace, be not still, God.

² For see! Your enemies roar, those who hate you lift up their heads,

³ laying crafty plans for your people, and plotting against those you treasure.

⁴ “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation, so Israel's name will be mentioned no more.”

⁵ For, conspiring with one accord, they have made a league against you

² Look, your enemies are making a commotion, and those who hate you have raised their heads.

³ They conspire against your people and plan together against your protected ones.

⁴ They have said, “Come, and let us destroy them as a nation. Then the name of Israel will no longer be remembered.”

⁵ They have schemed together with one strategy; against you they have made an alliance.

² For lo! thine enemies sounded; and they that hate thee raised the head.

³ They made a wicked counsel on thy people; and they thought against thy saints.

⁴ They said, Come ye, and lose we them from the folk; and the name of Israel be no more had in mind.

⁵ For they thought with one accord;

¹ The song of the psalm of Asaph. God, who shall be like thee? God, be thou not still, neither be thou peaced. (A psalm, yea, a song by Asaph. God, be thou not silent. Yea, God, be thou not still, nor hold thy peace.)

² For lo! thine enemies sounded; and they that hate thee raised the head. (For behold! thy enemies have raised a ruckus; and those who hate thee have raised up their heads in revolt, (or in defiance).)

³ They made a wicked counsel on thy people; and they thought against thy saints. (They made wicked plans against thy people; yea, they thought together against thy saints.)

⁴ They said, Come ye, and lose we them from the folk; and the name of Israel be no more had in mind. (They said, Come ye, and let us destroy their nation; and then the name of Israel shall no more be remembered.)

⁵ For they thought with one accord; (For they thought with one accord; they proposed together a plan against thee or they conspired to work together against thee;)

¹ A Song, — A Psalm of Asaph. O God, let there be no silence to Thee, Be not silent, nor be quiet, O God.

² For, lo, Thine enemies do roar, And those hating Thee have lifted up the head,

³ Against Thy people they take crafty counsel, And consult against Thy hidden ones.

⁴ They have said, 'Come, And we cut them off from being a nation, And the name of Israel is not remembered any more.'

⁵ For they consulted in heart together, Against Thee a covenant they make,
