⁴ O Jehovah God of hosts, How long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

⁵ Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, And given them tears to drink in large measure.

⁶ Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbors; And our enemies laugh among themselves.

⁷ Turn us again, O God of hosts; And cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

⁸ Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt: Thou didst drive out the nations, and plantedst it.

⁹ Thou preparedst room before it, And it took deep root, and filled the land.

¹⁰ The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, And the boughs thereof were like cedars of God.

¹¹ It sent out its branches unto the sea, And its shoots unto the River.

¹² Why hast thou broken down its walls, So that all they that pass by the way do pluck it?

¹³ The boar out of the wood doth ravage it, And the wild beasts of the field feed on it.

¹⁴ Turn again, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: Look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine,

¹⁵ And the stock which thy right hand planted, And the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire, it is cut down: They perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

¹⁷ Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, Upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

¹⁸ So shall we not go back from thee: Quicken thou us, and we will call upon thy name.

⁴ Blow the trumpet at the new moon, in the glorious day of your feast.

⁵ For this is an ordinance for Israel, and a statute of the God of Jacob.

⁶ He made it to be a testimony in Joseph, when he came forth out of the land of Egypt: he heard a language which he understood not.

⁷ He removed his back from burdens: his hands slaved in making the baskets.

⁸ Thou didst call upon me in trouble, and I delivered thee; I heard thee in the secret place of the storm: I proved thee at the water of Strife. Pause.

⁹ Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel; and I will testify to thee: if thou wilt hearken to me;

¹⁰ there shall be no new god in thee; neither shalt thou worship a strange god.

¹¹ For I am the Lord thy God, that brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

¹² But my people hearkened not to my voice; and Israel gave no heed to me.

¹³ So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts: they will go on in their own ways.

¹⁴ If my people had hearkened to me, if Israel had walked in my ways,

¹⁵ I should have put down their enemies very quickly, and should have laid my hand upon those that afflicted them.

¹⁶ The Lord's enemies should have lied to him: but their time shall be for ever.

¹⁷ And he fed them with the fat of wheat; and satisfied them with honey out of the rock.

⁴ Yahweh, you who are the commander of the armies of heaven, how long will you be angry with us, your people, when we pray to you?

⁵ It is as though the only food and drink that you have given us is a cup full of our tears!

⁶ You have allowed the people-groups that surround us to fight with each other to decide which part of our land each of them will take; our enemies laugh at us.

⁷ God, commander of the armies of heaven, cause our nation to be strong like it was before! Be kind to us in order that we may be saved!

⁸ Our ancestors were like a grapevine MET that you brought out of Egypt; you expelled the other people-groups from this land, and you put your people in their land.

⁹ Like people clear ground to plant a grapevine MET, you cleared out the people who were living in this land for us to live in it. Like the roots of a grapevine go deep down into the ground and spread MET, you enabled our ancestors to prosper and start living in towns all over this land.

¹⁰ Like huge grapevines cover the hills with their shade and their branches are taller than big cedar trees MET, HYP,

¹¹ your people ruled all of Canaan, from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Euphrates River in the east.

¹² So why have you abandoned us and allowed our enemies to tear down our walls RHQ? You are like someone who tears down the fences around his vineyard, with the result that all the people who pass by can steal the grapes,

¹³ and wild pigs can trample the vines, and wild animals can also eat the grapes.

¹⁴ You who are the commander of the armies of heaven, ◄turn to/stop abandoning► us! Look down from heaven and see what is happening to us! Come and rescue us who are like MET your grapevine,

¹⁵ who are like the young vine that you SYN planted and caused to grow!

¹⁶ Our enemies have torn down and burned everything in our land; look at them angrily and get rid of them!

¹⁷ But strengthen us people whom you have chosen IDM, us Israeli people whom you previously caused to be very strong.

¹⁸ When you do that, we will never turn away from you again; ◄revive us/cause us to be again like we were previously►, and then we will praise/worship you.

⁵ You have given them the bread of weeping for food; for their drink you have given them sorrow in great measure.

⁶ You make us a cause of war among our neighbours; our haters are laughing at us among themselves.

⁷ Take us back again, O God of armies; let us see the shining of your face, and let us be safe.

⁸ You took a vine out of Egypt: driving out the nations, and planting it in their land.

⁹ You made ready a place for it, so that it might take deep root, and it sent out its branches over all the land.

¹⁰ The mountains were covered with its shade, and the great trees with its branches.

¹¹ It sent out its arms to the Sea, and its branches to the River.

¹² Why are its walls broken down by your hands, so that all who go by may take its fruit?

¹³ It is uprooted by the pigs from the woods, the beasts of the field get their food from it.

¹⁴ Come back, O God of armies: from heaven let your eyes be turned to this vine, and give your mind to it,

¹⁵ Even to the tree which was planted by your right hand, and to the branch which you made strong for yourself.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire; it is cut down: they are made waste by the wrath of your face.

¹⁷ Let your hand be on the man of your right hand, on the son of man whom you made strong for yourself.

¹⁸ So will we not be turned back from you; keep us in life, and we will give praise to your name.

⁴ Jehovah, God of hosts, how long will thine anger smoke against the prayer of thy people?

⁵ Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure:

⁶ Thou hast made us a strife unto our neighbours, and our enemies mock among themselves.

⁷ Restore us, O God of hosts; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

⁸ Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt; thou didst cast out the nations, and plant it:

⁹ Thou preparedst space before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land;

¹⁰ The mountains were covered with its shadow, and the branches thereof were like cedars of God;

¹¹ It sent out its boughs unto the sea, and its shoots unto the river.

¹² Why hast thou broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way do pluck it?

¹³ The boar out of the forest doth waste it, and the beast of the field doth feed off it.

¹⁴ O God of hosts, return, we beseech thee; look down from the heavens, and behold, and visit this vine;

¹⁵ Even the stock which thy right hand hath planted, and the young plant thou madest strong for thyself.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

¹⁷ Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself.

¹⁸ So will we not go back from thee. Revive us, and we will call upon thy name.

⁴ Blow up the trumpet on the new moon, on the noted day of your solemnity.

⁵ For it is a commandment in Israel, and a judgment to the God of Jacob.

⁶ He ordained it for a testimony in Joseph, when he came out of the land of Egypt: he heard a tongue which he knew not.

⁷ He removed his back from the burdens: his hands had served in baskets.

⁸ Thou calledst upon me in affliction, and I delivered thee: I heard thee in the secret place of tempest: I proved thee at the waters of contradiction.

⁹ Hear, O my people, and I will testify to thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken to me,

¹⁰ There shall be no new god in thee: neither shalt thou adore a strange god.

¹¹ For I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

¹² But my people heard not my voice: and Israel hearkened not to me.

¹³ So I let them go according to the desires of their heart: they shall walk in their own inventions.

¹⁴ If my people had heard me: if Israel had walked in my ways:

¹⁵ I should soon have humbled their enemies, and laid my hand on them that troubled them.

¹⁶ The enemies of the Lord have lied to him: and their time shall be for ever.

¹⁷ And he fed them with the fat of wheat, and filled them with honey out of the rock.

⁴ Lord God Almighty, how long will you be angry with the prayers of your people?

⁵ You fed them with the bread of tears, and gave them a full bowl of tears to drink.

⁶ You turn us into victims our neighbors fight over; our enemies mock us.

⁷ God Almighty, please restore us! Let your face shine on us so we can be saved!

⁸ You carried us out of Egypt like a vine. You drove out the heathen nations, and then you planted the vine.

⁹ You prepared the ground for the vine. It took root and filled the land.

¹⁰ The mountains were covered by its shade; its branches covered the great cedars.

¹¹ It sent its branches as far west as the Mediterranean Sea, and its shoots as far east as the Euphrates River.

¹² So why have you broken down the walls that protect it so that everyone who passes by can steal its fruit?

¹³ Wild pigs from the forest eat it, wild animals feed on it.

¹⁴ God Almighty, please return to us! Look down from heaven and see what's happening to us! Come and care for this vine

¹⁵ that you planted yourself, this son that you brought up yourself.

¹⁶ We, your vine, have been chopped down and burned. May those who did this die when you glare at them.

¹⁷ Protect the man who stands beside you; strengthen the son you have chosen.

¹⁸ Then we will not turn away from you. Revive us so we can pray to you.

⁵ Thou hast fedde them with the bread of teares, and giuen them teares to drinke with great measure.

⁶ Thou hast made vs a strife vnto our neighbours, and our enemies laugh at vs among themselues.

⁷ Turne vs againe, O God of hostes: cause thy face to shine, and we shalbe saued.

⁸ Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

⁹ Thou madest roume for it, and didest cause it to take roote, and it filled the land.

¹⁰ The mountaines were couered with the shadowe of it, and the boughes thereof were like the goodly cedars.

¹¹ Shee stretched out her branches vnto the Sea, and her boughes vnto the Riuer.

¹² Why hast thou then broken downe her hedges, so that all they, which passe by the way, haue plucked her?

¹³ The wilde bore out of the wood hath destroyed it, and the wilde beastes of the fielde haue eaten it vp.

¹⁴ Returne we beseech thee, O God of hostes: looke downe from heauen and beholde and visite this vine,

¹⁵ And the vineyard, that thy right hand hath planted, and the young vine, which thou madest strong for thy selfe.

¹⁶ It is burnt with fire and cut downe: and they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

¹⁷ Let thine hande be vpon the man of thy right hande, and vpon the sonne of man, whome thou madest strong for thine owne selfe.

¹⁸ So will not we goe backe from thee: reuiue thou vs, and we shall call vpon thy Name.

⁹ (80-10) Thou didst clear a place before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land.

¹⁰ (80-11) The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the mighty cedars with the boughs thereof.

¹¹ (80-12) She sent out her branches unto the sea, and her shoots unto the River.

¹² (80-13) Why hast Thou broken down her fences, so that all they that pass by the way do pluck her?

¹³ (80-14) The boar out of the wood doth ravage it, that which moveth in the field feedeth on it.

¹⁴ (80-15) O God of hosts, return, we beseech Thee; look from heaven, and behold, and be mindful of this vine,

¹⁵ (80-16) And of the stock which Thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that Thou madest strong for Thyself.

¹⁶ (80-17) It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of Thy countenance.

¹⁷ (80-18) Let Thy hand be upon the man of Thy right hand, upon the son of man whom Thou madest strong for Thyself.

⁶ (80:7) Thou renderest us a contest unto our neighbors: and our enemies hold derision among themselves.

⁷ (80:8) O God of hosts, cause us to return, and let thy countenance shine, that we may be saved.

⁸ (80:9) A vine didst thou remove out of Egypt: thou drovest out nations, and plantedst it.

⁹ (80:10) Thou didst clear out a place before it, and it struck its root deeply, and it filled the land.

¹⁰ (80:11) Mountains were covered with its shadow, and with its boughs the cedars of God.

¹¹ (80:12) It sent out its tendrils as far as the sea, and unto the river its suckers.

¹² (80:13) Wherefore hast thou now broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way pluck the fruit from it?

¹³ (80:14) The boar out of the forest doth gnaw at it, and what moveth on the field feedeth on it.

¹⁴ (80:15) O God of hosts, return; I pray thee, look down from heaven, and behold, and think of this vine;

¹⁵ (80:16) And of the sprout which thy right hand hath planted, and of the branch that thou hast made strong for thyself.

¹⁶ (80:17) It is burnt with fire, it is hewn down; because of the rebuke of thy countenance do they perish.

¹⁷ (80:18) Let thy hand be over the man of thy right hand, over the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself.

¹⁸ (80:19) Then will we not swerve from thee: revive us again, and we will call on thy name.

⁴ Blow the trumpet at the new moon, In the glorious day of your feast.

⁵ For this is an ordinance for Israel, And a statute of the God of Jacob.

⁶ He made it to be a testimony in Joseph, When he came forth out of the land of Egypt: He heard a language which he understood not.

⁷ He removed his back from burdens: His hands slaved in making the baskets.

⁸ Thou didst call upon me in trouble, and I delivered thee; I heard thee in the secret place of the storm: I proved thee at the water of Strife. Pause.

⁹ Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel; And I will testify to thee: if thou wilt hearken to me;

¹⁰ There shall be no new god in thee; Neither shalt thou worship a strange god.

¹¹ For I am the Lord thy God, That brought thee out of the land of Egypt: Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

¹² But my people hearkened not to my voice; And Israel gave no heed to me.

¹³ So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts: They will go on in their own ways.

¹⁴ If my people had hearkened to me, If Israel had walked in my ways,

¹⁵ I should have put down their enemies very quickly, And should have laid my hand upon those that afflicted them.

¹⁶ The Lord’s enemies should have lied to him: But their time shall be forever.

¹⁷ And he fed them with the fat of wheat; And satisfied them with honey out of the rock.

⁴ O LORD, God of hosts! How long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

⁵ For thou causest them to eat the bread of tears, And givest them tears to drink, in full measure.

⁶ Thou hast made us the object of strife to our neighbors, And our enemies hold us in derision.

⁷ Bring us back, O God of hosts! And cause thy face to shine that we may be saved!

⁸ Thou didst bring a vine out of Egypt; Thou didst expel the nations, and plant it.

⁹ Thou didst prepare a place for it; It spread its roots, and filled the land.

¹⁰ The mountains were covered with its shade, And its branches were like the cedars of God.

¹² Why hast thou now broken down its hedges, So that all who pass by do pluck from it?

¹³ The boar from the wood doth waste it, And the wild beast of the forest doth devour it.

¹⁴ O God of hosts! return, we beseech thee, Look down from heaven, and behold, And have regard to this vine!

¹⁵ Protect what thy right hand planted; The branch which thou madest strong for thyself!

¹⁶ It is burnt with fire; it is cut down; Under thy rebuke they perish.

¹⁷ May thy hand be over the man of thy right hand, The man whom thou madest strong for thyself!

¹⁸ So will we no more turn back from thee: Revive us, and upon thy name alone will we call!

¹² Why have you torn down her fences, and left her to be plucked at by all who pass by,

¹³ to be gnawed by the boar from the forest, and devoured by the beasts of the field?

¹⁴ O God of hosts, return: look down from heaven and see and visit this vine, and restore her

¹⁵ the vine which your right hand has planted.

¹⁶ She is burnt with fire and cut down before your stern face they are perishing.

¹⁷ Support the one you have chosen, the one you have raised for yourself;

¹⁸ then from you we will never draw back. Preserve us, and we will call on your name.

⁹ You cleared the land for it; it took root and filled the land.

¹⁰ The mountains were covered with its shade, the cedars of God by its branches.

¹¹ It sent out its branches as far as the sea and its shoots to the Euphrates River.

¹² Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by along the road pluck its fruit?

¹³ The boars out of the forest ruin it, and the beasts of the field feed on it.

¹⁴ Turn back, God of hosts; look down from heaven and take notice and take care of this vine.

¹⁵ This is the root that your right hand planted, the shoot that you made to grow.

¹⁶ It has been burned and cut down; they perish because of your rebuke.

⁶ Thou hast set or put us into against-saying to our neighbours; and our enemies have scorned us.

⁷ God of virtues, turn or convert thou us; and show thy face, and we shall be safe.

⁸ Thou translatedest or brought over a vine from Egypt; thou castedest out heathen men, and plantedest it.

⁹ Thou were leader of the way in the sight thereof; and thou plantedest the roots thereof, and it filled the land.

¹⁰ The shadow thereof covered hills; and the branches thereof filled the cedars of God.

¹¹ It stretched forth his scions till to the sea, and the generations thereof till to the flood.

¹² Why hast thou destroyed the wall thereof; and all men that go forth by the way, gather away the grapes thereof?

¹³ A boar of the wood destroyed it; and a singular wild beast devoured it.

¹⁴ God of virtues, be thou turned again to us; behold from heaven, and see, and visit this vine.

¹⁵ And make thou it perfect, which thy right hand planted; and behold thou on the son of man, which thou hast confirmed to thee.

¹⁶ Things were burnt with fire, and undermined; they who did this shall perish for the blaming of thy cheer.

¹⁷ Thine hand be made on the man of thy right hand; and on the son of man, whom thou hast confirmed to thee.

¹⁸ And we departed not from thee; thou shalt quicken us, and we shall inwardly call thy name.

⁴ Lord God of virtues, how long shalt thou be wroth on the prayer of thy servant(s)? (Lord God of hosts, how long shalt thou be angry with thy people’s prayers?)

⁵ How long shalt thou feed us with the bread of tears; and shalt give drink to us with tears in (great) measure? (How long shalt thou feed us with tears, instead of bread? and for drink, give us more tears, or even greater sorrow?)

⁶ Thou hast set us into against-saying to our neighbours; and our enemies have scorned us. (Thou hast made our neighbours to speak out against us; and our enemies have mocked us.)

⁷ God of virtues, turn thou us (again); and show thy face, and we shall be safe. (God of hosts, bring us back; and shine thy face upon us, and we shall be saved.)

⁸ Thou translatedest a vine from Egypt; thou castedest out heathen men, and plantedest it. (Thou broughtest up a vine out of Egypt; thou threwest out the heathen, and then thou plantedest that vine, that is, us.)

⁹ Thou were leader of the way in the sight thereof; and thou plantedest the roots thereof, and it filled the land. (Thou madest a place for it on the way; and it planted its roots, and it filled the land.)

¹⁰ The shadow thereof covered hills; and the branches thereof filled the cedars of God. (Its shadow covered the hills; and its branches were thick, like the cedars of God.)

¹¹ It stretched forth his scions till to the sea, and the generations thereof till to the flood. (It stretched out its branches unto the Mediterranean Sea, and as far as the Euphrates River.)

¹² Why hast thou destroyed the wall thereof; and all men that go forth by the way, gather away the grapes thereof? (But why hast thou destroyed the wall around it? so that now all those who go forth by the way, can gather up, or take away, all of its grapes?)

¹³ A boar (out) of the wood destroyed it; and a singular wild beast devoured it.

¹⁴ God of virtues, be thou turned (again to us); behold from heaven, and see, and visit this vine. (God of hosts, turn thou again to us; look down from heaven, and see us in dire straits, and help us or and care for this vine.)

¹⁵ And make thou it perfect, which thy right hand planted; and behold thou on the son of man, which thou hast confirmed to thee. (And make thou perfect what thy right hand hath planted; yea, look thou upon the son of man, whom thou hast made strong for thyself, or yea, look thou upon the branch, that thou hast made strong for thyself.)

¹⁶ (These) Things (were) burnt with fire, and undermined; (they who did this thing) shall perish for the blaming of thy cheer. (For our enemies have burned it with fire, and have cut it down; but they shall die from the look of blame on thy face.)

¹⁷ Thine hand be made on the man of thy right hand; and on the son of man, whom thou hast confirmed to thee. (Let thy hand rest upon the man at thy right hand; yea, upon the son of the man whom thou hast made strong for thy service.)

¹⁸ And we departed not from thee; thou shalt quicken us, and we shall inwardly call thy name. (And we shall never leave thee; so grant thou us new life, and we shall call upon thy name.)

⁴ Jehovah, God of Hosts, till when? Thou hast burned against the prayer of Thy people.

⁵ Thou hast caused them to eat bread of tears, And causest them to drink With tears a third time.

⁶ Thou makest us a strife to our neighbours, And our enemies mock at it.

⁷ God of Hosts, turn us back, And cause Thy face to shine, and we are saved.

⁸ A vine out of Egypt Thou dost bring, Thou dost cast out nations, and plantest it.

⁹ Thou hast looked before it, and dost root it, And it filleth the land,

¹⁰ Covered have been hills with its shadow, And its boughs are cedars of God.

¹¹ It sendeth forth its branches unto the sea, And unto the river its sucklings.

¹² Why hast Thou broken down its hedges, And all passing by the way have plucked it?

¹³ A boar out of the forest doth waste it, And a wild beast of the fields consumeth it.

¹⁴ God of Hosts, turn back, we beseech Thee, Look from heaven, and see, and inspect this vine,

¹⁵ And the root that Thy right hand planted, And the branch Thou madest strong for Thee,

¹⁶ Burnt with fire — cut down, From the rebuke of Thy face they perish.

¹⁷ Let Thy hand be on the man of Thy right hand, On the son of man Thou hast strengthened for Thyself.

¹⁸ And we do not go back from Thee, Thou dost revive us, and in Thy name we call.
