Psalms 79:4-7 in English

⁴ We are become a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and derision to them that are round about us.

⁵ How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out thy wrath upon the nations that know thee not, And upon the kingdoms that call not upon thy name.

⁷ For they have devoured Jacob, And laid waste his habitation.

⁴ Turn us, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be delivered.

⁵ O Lord God of hosts, how long art thou angry with the prayer of thy servant?

⁶ Thou wilt feed us with bread of tears; and wilt cause us to drink tears by measure.

⁷ Thou hast made us a strife to our neighbours; and our enemies have mocked at us.

⁴ We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

⁵ How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.

⁷ For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.

⁶ You have made us a strife to our neighbors; and our enemies have mocked at us.

⁷ Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and cause your face to shine; and we shall be saved. Pause.

⁴ The people-groups that live in countries that surround our land insult us; they laugh at us and deride/belittle us.

⁵ Yahweh, how long will this continue? Will you be angry with us forever? Will your being angry destroy us like a burning fire destroys things?

⁶ Instead of being angry with us, be angry with the people-groups that do not know/worship you! Be angry with kingdoms whose people do not pray to you,

⁷ because they have killed Israeli people and they have ruined your country.

⁴ O Lord God of hosts, how long are you angry with the prayer of your servant?

⁵ You will feed us with bread of tears; and will cause us to drink tears by measure.

⁶ You have made us a strife to our neighbours; and our enemies have mocked at us.

⁷ Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and cause your face to shine; and we shall be saved. Pause.

⁴ We are looked down on by our neighbours, we are laughed at and made sport of by those who are round us.

⁵ How long, O Lord? will you be angry for ever? will your wrath go on burning like fire?

⁶ Let your wrath be on the nations who have no knowledge of you, and on the kingdoms who have not made prayer to your name.

⁷ For they have taken Jacob for their meat, and made waste his house.

⁴ We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision to them that are round about us.

⁵ How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out thy fury upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon thy name:

⁷ For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation.

⁴ Convert us, O God: and shew us thy face, and we shall be saved.

⁵ O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy servant?

⁶ How long wilt thou feed us with the bread of tears: and give us for our drink tears in measure?

⁷ Thou hast made us to be a contradiction to our neighbours: and our enemies have scoffed at us.

⁴ We have been made a mockery before our neighbors, ridiculed and laughed at by those around us.

⁵ How long, Lord? Will you be angry with us forever? Will your jealousy always burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out your anger on the heathen nations that don't know you, and on those kingdoms that don't worship you!

⁷ For they have destroyed the descendants of Jacob, and turned our country into a wasteland.

⁴ Wee are a reproche to our neighbours, euen a scorne and derision vnto them that are round about vs.

⁵ Lord, howe long wilt thou be angrie, for euer? shall thy gelousie burne like fire?

⁶ Powre out thy wrath vpon the heathen that haue not knowen thee, and vpon the kingdomes that haue not called vpon thy Name.

⁷ For they haue deuoured Iaakob and made his dwelling place desolate.

⁴ We are become a taunt to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

⁵ How long, O LORD, wilt Thou be angry for ever? How long will Thy jealousy burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations that know Thee not, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon Thy name.

⁴ On every side our neighbors revile us and mock us and jeer at us.

⁵ How long will you be angry, O Lord? Will your jealousy burn like fire forever?

⁶ Pour out your wrath on the nations that don't know you, on the kingdoms that do not call on your name.

⁷ For Jacob they devoured, they have desolated his home.

⁴ We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and derision to those who are around us.

⁵ How long, Adonai ? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you; on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name;

⁷ For they have devoured Jacob Supplanter, and destroyed his homeland.

⁴ We have become a reproach for our neighbors, mocking and derision to those who are around us.

⁵ How long, Yahweh? Will you stay angry forever? How long will your jealous anger burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you and on the kingdoms that do not call upon your name.

⁷ For they have devoured Jacob and destroyed his villages.

⁴ We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and derision to those who are around us.

⁵ How long, Yahweh? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?

⁶ Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name,

⁷ for they have devoured Jacob, and destroyed his homeland.

⁴ We be made a shame to our neighbours; mocking and scorning to them, that be in our compass.

⁵ Lord, how long shalt thou be wroth into the end? shall thy vengeance be kindled as fire?

⁶ Pour out thine ire into heathen men, that know not thee; and into realms, that called not thy name.

⁷ For they ate Jacob; and made desolate his place.

⁴ We be made (a) shame to our neighbours; mocking and scorning to them, that be in our compass. (We were made a reproach to our neighbours; mocked and scorned by those who be all around us.)

⁵ Lord, how long shalt thou be wroth into the end? shall thy vengeance be kindled as fire? (Lord, how long shalt thou be angry, forever? shall thy anger burn like fire?)

⁶ Pour out thine ire into heathen men, that know not thee; and into realms, that called not thy name. (Pour out thy anger upon the heathen, who know thee not; and upon the kingdoms, that have not called upon thy name.)

⁷ For they ate Jacob; and made desolate his place. (For they have devoured, or destroyed, the people of Jacob; and made their place desolate.)

⁴ We have been a reproach to our neighbours, A scorn and a derision to our surrounders.

⁵ Till when, O Jehovah? art Thou angry for ever? Thy jealousy doth burn as fire.

⁶ Pour Thy fury on the nations who have not known Thee, And on kingdoms that have not called in Thy name.

⁷ For one hath devoured Jacob, And his habitation they have made desolate.
