⁴ Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thine assembly; They have set up their ensigns for signs.

⁵ They seemed as men that lifted up Axes upon a thicket of trees.

⁶ And now all the carved work thereof They break down with hatchet and hammers.

⁷ They have set thy sanctuary on fire; They have profaned the dwelling-place of thy name by casting it to the ground.

⁸ They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether: They have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

⁴ The earth is dissolved, and all that dwell in it: I have strengthened its pillars. Pause.

⁵ I said unto the transgressors, Do not transgress; and to the sinners, Lift not up the horn.

⁶ Lift not up your horn on high; speak not unrighteousness against God.

⁷ For good comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert mountains.

⁸ For God is the judge; he puts down one, and raises up another.

⁷ Then they burned your temple to the ground; they caused that place where you were worshiped to be unfit for people to worship in.

⁸ They said to themselves, “We will destroy the Israelis completely,” and they also burned down all the other places where we gathered to worship God.

⁶ Your doors are broken down with hammers and iron blades.

⁷ They have put on fire your holy place; they have made the place of your name unclean, pulling it down to the earth.

⁸ They have said in their hearts, Let us put an end to them all together; they have given over to the fire all God's places of worship in the land.

⁵ A man was known as he could lift up axes in the thicket of trees;

⁶ And now they break down its carved work altogether, with hatchets and hammers.

⁷ They have set on fire thy sanctuary, they have profaned the habitation of thy name to the ground.

⁸ They said in their heart, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all God's places of assembly in the land.

⁴ The earth is melted, and all that dwell therein: I have established the pillars thereof.

⁵ I said to the wicked: Do not act wickedly: and to the sinners: Lift not up the horn.

⁶ Lift not up your horn on high: speak not iniquity against God.

⁷ For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert hills:

⁸ For God is the judge. One he putteth down, and another he lifteth up:

⁴ The enemy shouted in triumph right where you met with us. There they set up their war banners as signs of their victory.

⁵ They acted like men chopping down a forest with axes.

⁶ With axes and hammers they smashed in the carved wooden panels.

⁷ Then they set fire to your Temple, burning it to the ground. They defiled the place where you live, the place that bears your name.

⁸ They said to themselves, “Let's destroy it all!” So they burned down every place where God was worshiped throughout the land.

⁴ Thine aduersaries roare in the middes of thy Congregation, and set vp their banners for signes.

⁵ He that lifted the axes vpon the thicke trees, was renowmed, as one, that brought a thing to perfection:

⁶ But nowe they breake downe the carued worke thereof with axes and hammers.

⁷ They haue cast thy Sanctuarie into the fire, and rased it to the grounde, and haue defiled the dwelling place of thy Name.

⁸ They saide in their hearts, Let vs destroy them altogether: they haue burnt all the Synagogues of God in the land.

⁴ Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of Thy meeting-place; they have set up their own signs for signs.

⁵ It seemed as when men wield upwards axes in a thicket of trees.

⁶ And now all the carved work thereof together they strike down with hatchet and hammers.

⁷ They have set Thy sanctuary on fire; they have profaned the dwelling-place of Thy name even to the ground.

⁸ They said in their heart: 'Let us make havoc of them altogether'; they have burned up all the meeting-places of God in the land.

⁷ They have cast fire into thy sanctuary; They have profaned, and cast to the ground, the dwelling-place of thy name.

⁸ They said in their hearts, “Let us destroy them all together!” They have burned all God's places of assembly in the land.

⁴ Like lions your enemies roared through your house, replacing our symbols by signs of their own,

⁵ hacking, like woodsmen who lift axes on thickets of trees,

⁶ smashing with hatchets and hammers all of its carved work together.

⁷ They have set your temple on fire, to the very ground they have outraged the place where lives your name.

⁸ They have said in their heart, “Let us utterly crush them.” They have burnt all the houses of God in the land.

⁴ Like lions your enemies roared through your house, replacing our symbols by signs of their own,

⁵ hacking, like woodsmen who lift axes on thickets of trees,

⁶ smashing with hatchets and hammers all of its carved work together.

⁷ They have set your temple on fire, to the very ground they have outraged the place where lives your name.

⁸ They have said in their heart, “Let us utterly crush them.” They have burned all the houses of God in the land.

⁸ They said in their hearts, “We will destroy them all.” They burned up all of your meeting places in the land.

⁴ And they that hated thee; had glory in the midst of thy solemnity. They setted their signs, either banners, to be signs on the highest place, as in the outgoing or going out; and they knew not.

⁵ As in a wood of trees, they hewed down with axes the gates thereof into itself;

⁶ they casted down it with an ax, and a broad falling ax.

⁷ They burnt with fire thy saintuary; they defouled the tabernacle of thy name in earth.

⁸ The kindred of them said together in their heart; Make we all the feast days of God to cease in the earth.

⁴ And they that hated thee; had glory in the midst of thy solemnity. They setted their signs, either banners, to be signs on the highest (place), as in the out-going; and they knew not. (For they who hated thee, had glory in the midst of thy holy place. They set up their signs, or their banners, there, as signs of victory.)

⁵ As in a wood of trees, they hewed down with axes the gates thereof into itself; (Like in a forest, they hewed down its gates with their axes, as if they were woodsmen;)

⁶ they casted down it with an ax, and a broad falling ax. (they threw them down with their axes, yea, with their broad falling axes.)

⁷ They burnt with fire thy saintuary; they defouled the tabernacle of thy name in earth. (They burned thy sanctuary with fire; they defiled the Temple of thy name, and razed it to the ground.)

⁸ The kindred of them said together in their heart; Make we all the feast days of God to cease in the earth. (They said in their hearts, Let us altogether destroy them; and they burned down all the synagogues of God in the land or and they burned down all the holy places of God in the land.)

⁴ Roared have thine adversaries, In the midst of Thy meeting-places, They have set their ensigns as ensigns.

⁵ He is known as one bringing in on high Against a thicket of wood — axes.

⁶ And now, its carvings together With axe and hatchet they break down,

⁷ They have sent into fire Thy sanctuary, to the earth they polluted the tabernacle of Thy name,

⁸ They said in their hearts, 'Let us oppress them together,' They did burn all the meeting-places of God in the land.
