Help us?

Psalms 74:1-17 in American Standard Version (1901)

1 Maschil of Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast gotten of old, Which thou hast redeemed to be the tribe of thine inheritance; And mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual ruins, All the evil that the enemy hath done in the sanctuary.
4 Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thine assembly; They have set up their ensigns for signs.
5 They seemed as men that lifted up Axes upon a thicket of trees.
6 And now all the carved work thereof They break down with hatchet and hammers.
7 They have set thy sanctuary on fire; They have profaned the dwelling-place of thy name by casting it to the ground.
8 They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether: They have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
9 We see not our signs: There is no more any prophet; Neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
10 How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Why drawest thou back thy hand, even thy right hand? Pluck it out of thy bosom and consume them.
12 Yet God is my King of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: Thou brakest the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters.
14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces; Thou gavest him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 Thou didst cleave fountain and flood: Thou driedst up mighty rivers.
16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: Thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: Thou hast made summer and winter.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Brenton Septuagint Translation

1 For the end, Destroy not, a Psalm of a Song for Asaph.
2 We will give thanks to thee, O God, we will give thanks, and call upon thy name: I will declare all thy wonderful works.
3 When I shall take a set time, I will judge righteously.
4 The earth is dissolved, and all that dwell in it: I have strengthened its pillars. Pause.
5 I said unto the transgressors, Do not transgress; and to the sinners, Lift not up the horn.
6 Lift not up your horn on high; speak not unrighteousness against God.
7 For good comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert mountains.
8 For God is the judge; he puts down one, and raises up another.
9 For there is a cup in the hand of the Lord, full of unmingled wine; and he has turned it from side to side, but its dregs have not been wholly poured out; all the sinners of the earth shall drink them.
10 But I will exult for ever: I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
11 And I will break all the horns of sinners; but the horns of the righteous one shall be exalted.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Translation for Translators

1 God, why have you abandoned/rejected us? Will you keep rejecting us forever RHQ? Why are you angry with us, since we are like sheep in your pasture and you are like our shepherd? MET, RHQ
2 Do not forget your people whom you chose long ago, the people whom you freed from being slaves in Egypt and caused to become your tribe. Do not forget Jerusalem, which was ◄your home/where you dwelt► on this earth.
3 Walk along and see where everything has been totally ruined; our enemies have destroyed everything in the sacred temple.
4 Your enemies shouted triumphantly in this sacred place; they erected their banners to show they had defeated us.
5 They cut down all the engraved objects in the temple like woodsmen cut down trees.
6 Then they smashed all the carved wood with their axes and hammers.
7 Then they burned your temple to the ground; they caused that place where you were worshiped to be unfit for people to worship in.
8 They said to themselves, “We will destroy the Israelis completely,” and they also burned down all the other places where we gathered to worship God.
9 All our sacred symbols (OR, miracles) are gone; there are no prophets now/anymore, and no one knows how long this situation will continue.
10 God, how long will our enemies make fun of you RHQ? Will they insult you MTY forever RHQ?
11 Why do you refuse to help MTY, RHQ us? Why do you keep your hand inside your cloak instead of using it to destroy our enemies RHQ?
12 God, you have been our king all the time since we came out of Egypt HYP, and you have enabled us to defeat our enemies in the land of Israel.
13 By your power you caused the Red Sea to divide; it was as though you smashed the heads of the rulers of Egypt who were like huge sea dragons MET.
14 It was as though you crushed the head of the king of Egypt MET and gave his body to the animals in the desert to eat.
15 You caused springs and streams to flow, and you also dried up rivers that had never dried up previously.
16 You created the days and the nights, and you put the sun and the moon in their places.
17 You determined where the oceans end and the land begins, and you created the summer/hot season and the winter/cold season.

1 A contemplation by Asaph. God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Remember your congregation, which you purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your inheritance: Mount Zion, in which you have lived.
3 Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins, all the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary.
4 Your adversaries have roared in the middle of your assembly. They have set up their standards as signs.
5 They behaved like men wielding axes, cutting through a thicket of trees.
6 Now they break all its carved work down with hatchet and hammers.
7 They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling place of your Name.
8 They said in their heart, “We will crush them completely.” They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped.
9 We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.
10 How long, God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?
11 Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand? Take it from your chest and consume them!
12 Yet God is my King of old, working salvation throughout the earth.
13 You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.
14 You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces. You gave him as food to people and desert creatures.
15 You opened up spring and stream. You dried up mighty rivers.
16 The day is yours, the night is also yours. You have prepared the light and the sun.
17 You have set all the boundaries of the earth. You have made summer and winter.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Bible in Basic English

1 Maschil. Of Asaph. Of God, why have you put us away from you for ever? why is the fire of your wrath smoking against the sheep who are your care?
2 Keep in mind your band of worshippers, for whom you gave payment in the days which are past, whom you took for yourself as the people of your heritage; even this mountain of Zion, which has been your resting-place.
3 Go up and see the unending destruction; all the evil which your haters have done in the holy place;
4 Sending out their voices like lions among your worshippers; they have put up their signs to be seen.
5 They are cutting down, like a man whose blade is lifted up against the thick trees.
6 Your doors are broken down with hammers and iron blades.
7 They have put on fire your holy place; they have made the place of your name unclean, pulling it down to the earth.
8 They have said in their hearts, Let us put an end to them all together; they have given over to the fire all God's places of worship in the land.
9 We do not see our signs: there is no longer any prophet, or anyone among us to say how long.
10 O God, how long will those who are against us say cruel things? will the hater go on looking down on your name for ever?
11 Why are you keeping back your hand, and covering your right hand in your robe?
12 For from the past God is my King, working salvation in the earth.
13 The sea was parted in two by your strength; the heads of the great sea-beasts were broken.
14 The heads of the great snake were crushed by you; you gave them as food to the fishes of the sea.
15 You made valleys for fountains and springs; you made the ever-flowing rivers dry.
16 The day is yours and the night is yours: you made the light and the sun.
17 By you all the limits of the earth were fixed; you have made summer and winter.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Darby Translation

1 An instruction: of Asaph. Why, O God, hast thou cast off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thine assembly, which thou hast purchased of old, which thou hast redeemed to be the portion of thine inheritance, this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy steps unto the perpetual desolations: everything in the sanctuary hath the enemy destroyed.
4 Thine adversaries roar in the midst of thy place of assembly; they set up their signs for signs.
5 A man was known as he could lift up axes in the thicket of trees;
6 And now they break down its carved work altogether, with hatchets and hammers.
7 They have set on fire thy sanctuary, they have profaned the habitation of thy name to the ground.
8 They said in their heart, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all God's places of assembly in the land.
9 We see not our signs; there is no more any prophet, neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
10 How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy contemn thy name for ever?
11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, and thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom: consume them.
12 But God is my king of old, accomplishing deliverances in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength; thou didst break the heads of the monsters on the waters:
14 Thou didst break in pieces the heads of leviathan, thou gavest him to be meat to those that people the desert.
15 Thou didst cleave fountain and torrent, thou driedst up ever-flowing rivers.
16 The day is thine, the night also is thine; thou hast prepared the moon and the sun:
17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth; summer and winter — thou didst form them.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Douay-Rheims 1899

1 Unto the end, corrupt not, a psalm of a canticle for Asaph.
2 We will praise thee, O God: we will praise, and we will call upon thy name. We will relate thy wondrous works:
3 When I shall take a time, I will judge justices.
4 The earth is melted, and all that dwell therein: I have established the pillars thereof.
5 I said to the wicked: Do not act wickedly: and to the sinners: Lift not up the horn.
6 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not iniquity against God.
7 For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert hills:
8 For God is the judge. One he putteth down, and another he lifteth up:
9 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup of strong wine full of mixture. And he hath poured it out from this to that: but the dregs thereof are not emptied: all the sinners of the earth shall drink.
10 But I will declare for ever: I will sing to the God of Jacob.
11 And I will break all the horns of sinners: but the horns of the just shall be exalted.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Free Bible Version

1 A psalm (maskil) of Asaph. God, why have you rejected us? Is it forever? Why does your anger burn so hot against the sheep of your own field?
2 Remember the people you made your own long ago, the tribe you redeemed and made your own. Remember too Mount Zion, the place where you live.
3 Come and walk through the complete devastation. The enemy has totally destroyed your Temple.
4 The enemy shouted in triumph right where you met with us. There they set up their war banners as signs of their victory.
5 They acted like men chopping down a forest with axes.
6 With axes and hammers they smashed in the carved wooden panels.
7 Then they set fire to your Temple, burning it to the ground. They defiled the place where you live, the place that bears your name.
8 They said to themselves, “Let's destroy it all!” So they burned down every place where God was worshiped throughout the land.
9 We no longer see any signs. There are no prophets left. And no one among us knows how long this will last.
10 How long will the enemy ridicule you, God? Will they insult your character forever?
11 Why do you hold back from doing something? Take action and destroy them!
12 But you, God, are our king from long ago. You have saved us many times in the land.
13 You were the one who split apart the sea by your strength; you broke the heads of the sea monsters.
14 You were the one who crushed the heads of Leviathan, and you gave its body to the desert animals to eat.
15 You were the one who made springs and rivers flow with water. You made permanent rivers dry up.
16 You created the day, and also the night; you made the moon and the sun.
17 You set the boundaries of the earth; you made summer and winter.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Geneva Bible 1599

1 A Psalme to give instruction, committed to Asaph. O God, why hast thou put vs away for euer? why is thy wrath kindled against the sheepe of thy pasture?
2 Thinke vpon thy Congregation, which thou hast possessed of olde, and on the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed, and on this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift vp thy strokes, that thou mayest for euer destroy euery enemie that doeth euill to the Sanctuarie.
4 Thine aduersaries roare in the middes of thy Congregation, and set vp their banners for signes.
5 He that lifted the axes vpon the thicke trees, was renowmed, as one, that brought a thing to perfection:
6 But nowe they breake downe the carued worke thereof with axes and hammers.
7 They haue cast thy Sanctuarie into the fire, and rased it to the grounde, and haue defiled the dwelling place of thy Name.
8 They saide in their hearts, Let vs destroy them altogether: they haue burnt all the Synagogues of God in the land.
9 We see not our signes: there is not one Prophet more, nor any with vs that knoweth howe long.
10 O God, howe long shall the aduersarie reproche thee? shall the enemie blaspheme thy Name for euer?
11 Why withdrawest thou thine hand, euen thy right hand? drawe it out of thy bosome, and consume them.
12 Euen God is my King of olde, working saluation in the middes of the earth.
13 Thou didest deuide the sea by thy power: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 Thou brakest the head of Liuiathan in pieces, and gauest him to be meate for the people in wildernesse.
15 Thou brakest vp the fountaine and riuer: thou dryedst vp mightie riuers.
16 The day is thine, and the night is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sunne.
17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

2 Remember Thy congregation, which Thou hast gotten of old, which Thou hast redeemed to be the tribe of Thine inheritance; and mount Zion, wherein Thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up Thy steps because of the perpetual ruins, even all the evil that the enemy hath done in the sanctuary.

5 It seemed as when men wield upwards axes in a thicket of trees.
6 And now all the carved work thereof together they strike down with hatchet and hammers.
7 They have set Thy sanctuary on fire; they have profaned the dwelling-place of Thy name even to the ground.
8 They said in their heart: 'Let us make havoc of them altogether'; they have burned up all the meeting-places of God in the land.
9 We see not our signs; there is no more any prophet; neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

1 “A Maskil of Assaph.” Why, O God, hast thou cast us off for ever? why will thy anger smoke against the flock of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation, which thou didst acquire of old; which thou didst redeem as the tribe of thy inheritance: this mount Zion, whereon thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy steps unto the perpetual heaps of ruins: the enemy hath ill-used every thing in the sanctuary.
4 Thy adversaries have roared in the midst of thy places of assembly: they have set up their signs for signs.
5 The enemy is known as one that lifteth up high axes against the thickets of a forest.
6 And now they hew in pieces the carved work thereof altogether with hatchets and hammers.
7 They have set on fire thy sanctuary; to the ground have they profaned the dwelling-place of thy name.
8 They have said in their heart, We will oppress them altogether: they have burnt up all the places of assembly of God in the land.
9 Our signs do we not see: there is no more any prophet: and there is no one among us that knoweth how long.
10 How long, O God, shall the adversary utter defiance? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, and thy right hand? draw it out of thy bosom—exterminate them;
12 Since thou God art my King from olden days, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 It was thou that didst divide by thy strength the sea: thou brokest in pieces the heads of the crocodiles on the waters.
14 Thou didst crush the heads of leviathan, and gavest them as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 Thou didst cleave fountain and stream: thou didst dry up ever-flowing rivers.
16 Thine is the day and thine is the night: it is thou who hast prepared the luminary and the sun.
17 It is thou who hast set up all the boundaries of the earth: summer and winter—thou thyself hast formed them.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Updated Brenton English Septuagint

10 But I will exult forever: I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
11 And I will break all the horns of sinners; But the horns of the righteous one shall be exalted.

Psalms 74:1-17 in George Noyes Bible

1 “A psalm of Asaph.” O God! why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why doth thine anger smoke against the flock of thy pasture?
2 Remember the people which thou didst purchase of old; Thine own inheritance, which thou didst redeem; That Mount Zion, where thou once didst dwell!
3 Hasten thy steps to those utter desolations! Every thing in the sanctuary hath the enemy abused!
4 Thine enemies roar in the place of thine assemblies; Their own symbols have they set up for signs.
5 They appear like those who raise the axe against a thicket;
6 They have broken down the carved work of thy temple with axes and hammers;
7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary; They have profaned, and cast to the ground, the dwelling-place of thy name.
8 They said in their hearts, “Let us destroy them all together!” They have burned all God's places of assembly in the land.
9 We no longer see our signs; There is no prophet among us, Nor any one that knoweth how long this desolation shall endure.
10 How long, O God! shall the adversary revile? Shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? Take it from thy bosom, and destroy!
12 Yet God was our king of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy power; Thou didst crush the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters.
14 Thou didst break in pieces the head of the crocodile; Thou gavest him for food to the inhabitants of the desert.
15 Thou didst cleave forth the fountain and the stream; Thou didst dry up perennial rivers.
16 Thine is the day, and thine the night; Thou didst prepare the light and the sun.
17 Thou didst establish all the boundaries of the earth; Thou didst make summer and winter.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Open English Bible (Commonwealth Spelling)

1 A maskil of Asaph. Why, O God, have you spurned us forever? Why smokes your wrath against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Remember the community you purchased of old to become by redemption the tribe of your heritage, Zion, the mountain you made your home.
3 Rouse yourself, visit its ruins complete. In the temple the foe has made havoc of all things.
4 Like lions your enemies roared through your house, replacing our symbols by signs of their own,
5 hacking, like woodsmen who lift axes on thickets of trees,
6 smashing with hatchets and hammers all of its carved work together.
7 They have set your temple on fire, to the very ground they have outraged the place where lives your name.
8 They have said in their heart, “Let us utterly crush them.” They have burnt all the houses of God in the land.
9 No symbol of ours do we see any more: no prophet is there any more, none is with us who knows how long.
10 How long, O God, is the foe to insult? Shall the enemy spurn your name forever?
11 Why, O Lord, do you hold back your hand, why keep your right hand in the folds of your robe?
12 Yet God is our king from the ancient days, in the midst of the earth working deeds of salvation.
13 It was you who did cleave the sea by your might, and shatter the heads of the ocean monsters.
14 It was you who did crush many-headed Leviathan, and give him as food to the beasts of the wilderness.
15 It was you who did cleave the fountains and torrents; it was you who did dry the perennial streams.
16 Yours is the day; yours, too, is the night, it was you who did establish the sun and the star.
17 It was you who did fix all the borders of earth: summer and winter it's you who have made them.

1 A maschil of Asaph. God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Call to mind your people, whom you purchased in ancient times, the tribe whom you have redeemed to be your own heritage, and Mount Zion, where you live.
3 Come look at the complete ruins, all the damage that the enemy has done in the holy place.
4 Your adversaries roared in the middle of your appointed place; they set up their battle flags.
5 They hacked away with axes as in a thick forest.
6 They smashed and broke down all the engravings; they broke them with axes and hammers.
7 They set your sanctuary on fire; they desecrated where you live, knocking it to the ground.
8 They said in their hearts, “We will destroy them all.” They burned up all of your meeting places in the land.
9 We do not see any more signs; there is no prophet any more, and no one among us knows how long this will last.
10 How long, God, will the enemy throw insults at you? Will the enemy blaspheme your name forever?
11 Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take your right hand from your garment and destroy them.
12 Yet God has been my king from ancient times, bringing salvation on the earth.
13 You divided the sea by your strength; you smashed the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.
14 You crushed the heads of leviathan; you fed him to those living in the wilderness.
15 You broke open springs and streams; you dried up flowing rivers.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

1 The learning of Asaph. God, why hast thou put us away into the end; thy strong vengeance is wroth on the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Be thou mindful of thy gathering together; which thou haddest in possession from the beginning. Thou again-boughtest the rod of thine heritage; the hill of Zion, in which thou dwelledest therein.
3 Raise thine hands into the prides of them; how great things the enemy did wickedly in the holy place.
4 And they that hated thee; had glory in the midst of thy solemnity. They setted their signs, either banners, to be signs on the highest place, as in the outgoing or going out; and they knew not.
5 As in a wood of trees, they hewed down with axes the gates thereof into itself;
6 they casted down it with an ax, and a broad falling ax.
7 They burnt with fire thy saintuary; they defouled the tabernacle of thy name in earth.
8 The kindred of them said together in their heart; Make we all the feast days of God to cease in the earth.
9 We have not seen our signs, now there is no prophet; and he shall no more know us.
10 God, how long shall the enemy say despite? the adversary stirreth to ire thy name into the end.
11 Why turnest thou away thine hand, to not draw out thy right hand from the midst of thy bosom, till into the end?
12 Forsooth God our king before worlds, wrought health in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou madest firm the sea by thy virtue; thou hast troubled the heads of the dragons in waters.
14 Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon; thou hast given him to be meat to the peoples of Ethiopians.
15 Thou hast broken wells, and strands or streams; thou madest dry the floods of Eitan.
16 The day is thine, and the night is thine; thou madest the morrowtide and the sun.
17 Thou madest all the ends of the earth; summer, and ver time, either springing time, thou formedest those or them.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

1 The learning of Asaph. God, why hast thou put (us) away into the end; thy strong vengeance is wroth on the sheep of thy pasture? (A teaching by Asaph. God, why hast thou deserted us? is it forever? and why is thy anger, yea, thy fury, so strong against the sheep of thy pasture?)
2 Be thou mindful of thy gathering together; which thou haddest in possession from the beginning. Thou again-boughtest the rod of thine heritage; the hill of Zion, in which thou dwelledest therein. (Remember thy congregation; whom thou haddest in possession since the old days. Thou redeemedest this tribe for thy inheritance. And remember Mount Zion; where thou dwelledest.)
3 Raise thine hands into the prides of them; how great things the enemy did wickedly in the holy (place). (How greatly wicked were the things that the enemy did in the holy place; raise up thy hands against their pride.)
4 And they that hated thee; had glory in the midst of thy solemnity. They setted their signs, either banners, to be signs on the highest (place), as in the out-going; and they knew not. (For they who hated thee, had glory in the midst of thy holy place. They set up their signs, or their banners, there, as signs of victory.)
5 As in a wood of trees, they hewed down with axes the gates thereof into itself; (Like in a forest, they hewed down its gates with their axes, as if they were woodsmen;)
6 they casted down it with an ax, and a broad falling ax. (they threw them down with their axes, yea, with their broad falling axes.)
7 They burnt with fire thy saintuary; they defouled the tabernacle of thy name in earth. (They burned thy sanctuary with fire; they defiled the Temple of thy name, and razed it to the ground.)
8 The kindred of them said together in their heart; Make we all the feast days of God to cease in the earth. (They said in their hearts, Let us altogether destroy them; and they burned down all the synagogues of God in the land or and they burned down all the holy places of God in the land.)
9 We have not seen our signs, now there is no prophet; and he shall no more know us. (We cannot see our signs, that is, the future, for now there is no prophet here; and none of us know how long this shall last.)
10 God, how long shall the enemy say despite? the adversary stirreth to ire thy name into the end. (God, how long shall the enemy show their despising of us? shall the adversary scorn thy name forever?)
11 Why turnest thou away thine hand, and to (not) draw out thy right hand from the midst of thy bosom, till into the end? (Why turnest thou away thy hand, and why draw thou not out thy right hand from the midst of thy bosom?)
12 Forsooth God our king before worlds, wrought health in the midst of earth. (But God, our King forever, hath given salvation, or deliverance, all the world over.)
13 Thou madest firm the sea by thy virtue; thou hast troubled the heads of the dragons in waters. (Thou dividedest the sea by thy strength, or thy power; thou hast broken the heads of the dragons in the water or thou hast broken the heads of the Dragon in the water.)
14 Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon; thou hast given him to be meat to the peoples of Ethiopians. (Thou hast broken the heads of the Dragon, or of Leviathan; thou hast given him to be food for the peoples of the desert.)
15 Thou hast broken wells, and strands; thou madest dry the floods of Eitan. (Thou hast broken open the wells, or the springs, and the streams; thou hast dried up the mighty rivers.)
16 The day is thine, and the night is thine; thou madest the morrowtide and the sun.
17 Thou madest all the ends of the earth; summer, and ver time, either springing time (or spring time), thou formedest those.

Psalms 74:1-17 in Young's Literal Translation

1 An Instruction of Asaph. Why, O God, hast Thou cast off for ever? Thine anger smoketh against the flock of Thy pasture.
2 Remember Thy company. Thou didst purchase of old, Thou didst redeem the rod of Thy inheritance, This mount Zion — Thou didst dwell in it.
3 Lift up Thy steps to the perpetual desolations, Everything the enemy did wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 Roared have thine adversaries, In the midst of Thy meeting-places, They have set their ensigns as ensigns.
5 He is known as one bringing in on high Against a thicket of wood — axes.
6 And now, its carvings together With axe and hatchet they break down,
7 They have sent into fire Thy sanctuary, to the earth they polluted the tabernacle of Thy name,
8 They said in their hearts, 'Let us oppress them together,' They did burn all the meeting-places of God in the land.
9 Our ensigns we have not seen, There is no more a prophet, Nor with us is one knowing how long.
10 Till when, O God, doth an adversary reproach? Doth an enemy despise thy name for ever?
11 Why dost Thou turn back Thy hand, Even Thy right hand? From the midst of Thy bosom remove it.
12 And God is my king of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou hast broken by Thy strength a sea -monster, Thou hast shivered Heads of dragons by the waters,
14 Thou hast broken the heads of leviathan, Thou makest him food, For the people of the dry places.
15 Thou hast cleaved a fountain and a stream, Thou hast dried up perennial flowings.
16 Thine is the day, also Thine is the night, Thou hast prepared a light giver — the sun.
17 Thou hast set up all the borders of earth, Summer and winter Thou hast formed them.
