⁶ Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; Violence covereth them as a garment.

⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.

⁸ They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression: They speak loftily.

⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth.

¹⁰ Therefore his people return hither: And waters of a full cup are drained by them.

¹¹ And they say, How doth God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?

¹² Behold, these are the wicked; And, being alway at ease, they increase in riches.

¹³ Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocency;

¹⁴ For all the day long have I been plagued, And chastened every morning.

¹⁵ If I had said, I will speak thus; Behold, I had dealt treacherously with the generation of thy children.

⁶ they cut down its doors at once with axes as in a wood of trees; they have broken it down with hatchet and stone cutter.

⁷ They have burnt thy sanctuary with fire to the ground; they have profaned the habitation of thy name.

⁸ They have said in their heart, even all their kindred together, Come, let us abolish the feasts of the Lord from the earth.

⁹ We have not seen our signs; there is no longer a prophet; and God will not know us any more.

¹⁰ How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach? shall the enemy provoke thy name for ever?

¹¹ Wherefore turnest thou away thine hand, and thy right hand from the midst of thy bosom for ever?

¹² But God is our King of old; he has wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.

¹³ Thou didst establish the sea, in thy might, thou didst break to pieces the heads of the dragons in the water.

¹⁴ Thou didst break to pieces the heads of the dragon; thou didst give him for meat to the Ethiopian nations.

¹⁵ Thou didst cleave fountains and torrents; thou driedst up mighty rivers.

⁶ Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

⁶ So they are proud, and their being proud is like a necklace that they show to others, and they show off their violent actions like people show off their beautiful robes.

⁷ From their inner beings they ◄pour out/do► evil deeds, and they are always thinking about more evil things to do.

⁸ They scoff at other people, and they talk about doing evil things to them; they are proud while they plan to oppress others.

⁹ They say evil things about God who is in heaven MTY, and they talk boastfully/proudly about things that they have done here on the earth.

¹⁰ The result is that people listen to what they say and praise them and do not think that they have done anything that is wrong.

¹¹ Wicked people say to themselves, “God will certainly not RHQ know what we have done; people say that he is greater than any other god, but he does not know everything.”

¹² That is what wicked people are like; they never worry about anything, and they are always becoming richer.

¹³ So, God, I think it is useless that I have RHQ always done what you want me to, and that I have not sinned.

¹⁴ All day long I have problems, and every morning you punish me.

¹⁵ If I had said the things that the wicked people say, I would have been sinning against your people.

⁸ Their thoughts are deep with evil designs; their talk from their seats of power is of cruel acts.

⁹ Their mouth goes up to heaven; their tongues go walking through the earth.

¹⁰ For this reason they are full of bread; and water is ever flowing for them.

¹¹ And they say, How will the Lord see this? is there knowledge in the Most High?

¹² Truly, such are the sinners; they do well at all times, and their wealth is increased.

¹³ As for me, I have made my heart clean to no purpose, washing my hands in righteousness;

¹⁴ For I have been troubled all the day; every morning have I undergone punishment.

¹⁵ If I would make clear what it is like, I would say, You are false to the generation of your children.

⁶ Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them as a garment;

⁷ Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:

⁸ They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:

⁹ They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

¹⁰ Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them.

¹¹ And they say, How can God know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?

¹² Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.

¹³ Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:

¹⁴ For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

¹⁵ If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children.

⁶ They have cut down at once the gates thereof, with axe and hatchet they have brought it down.

⁷ They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth.

⁸ They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land.

⁹ Our signs we have not seen, there is now no prophet: and he will know us no more.

¹⁰ How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke thy name for ever?

¹¹ Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever?

¹² But God is our king before ages: he hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.

¹³ Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters.

¹⁴ Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon: thou hast given him to be meat for the people of the Ethiopians.

¹⁵ Thou hast broken up the fountains and the torrents: thou hast dried up the Ethan rivers.

⁶ They wear their pride like a necklace; they clothe themselves with violence.

⁷ Their eyes bulge out because they're so fat; their minds are full of selfish vanity.

⁸ They mock people, and speak maliciously; they arrogantly threaten cruelty.

⁹ They talk irreverently against heaven above, and defame people here on earth.

¹⁰ As a result people turn to them and drink in everything they say.

¹¹ “God won't find out,” they say. “The Most High doesn't even know what's going on!”

¹² Look at these wicked people! They don't have a care in the world, and they're always making money!

¹³ It's been pointless to keep my mind pure and my hands clean.

¹⁴ I'm cursed with suffering all day long; every morning I'm punished.

¹⁵ If I'd talked like this to others, I would have betrayed your people.

⁶ Therefore pride is as a chayne vnto them, and crueltie couereth them as a garment.

⁷ Their eyes stande out for fatnesse: they haue more then heart can wish.

⁸ They are licentious, and speake wickedly of their oppression: they talke presumptuously.

⁹ They set their mouth against heauen, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

¹⁰ Therefore his people turne hither: for waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

¹¹ And they say, Howe doeth God know it? or is there knowledge in the most High?

¹² Lo, these are the wicked, yet prosper they alway, and increase in riches.

¹³ Certainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie.

¹⁴ For dayly haue I bene punished, and chastened euery morning.

¹⁵ If I say, I will iudge thus, beholde the generation of thy children: I haue trespassed.

⁸ They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression; they speak as if there were none on high.

¹¹ And they say, “How doth God know? How can there be knowledge with the Most High?”

¹² Behold these are the ungodly! Yet they are ever prosperous; they heap up riches.

¹³ Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain; In vain have I washed my hands in innocence.

¹⁴ For every day have I been smitten; Every morn have I been chastened.

¹⁵ If I should resolve to speak like them, Surely I should be treacherous to the family of thy children.

⁶ So they wear their pride like a necklace, they put on the garment of wrong,

⁷ their eyes stand out with fatness, their heart swells with riotous fancies.

⁸ Their speech is mocking and evil, condescending and crooked their speech.

⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens, while their tongue struts about on the earth.

¹⁰ Small wonder that people resort to them, and drink deep draughts of their lore.

¹¹ “How does God know?” they say, “And has the Most High any knowledge?”

¹² See! These are the godless, with wealth and ease ever increasing.

¹³ Yes, in vain have I kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence;

¹⁴ for all the day long was I plagued not a morning but I was chastised.

¹⁵ But to resolve to speak like they do would be treachery to your children.

¹³ Surely it is in vain that I have guarded my heart and washed my hands in innocence.

¹⁴ For all the day long I have been afflicted and disciplined every morning.

¹⁵ If I had said, “I will say these things,” then I would have betrayed this generation of your children.

¹⁰ Therefore my people shall be turned again here; and full days shall be found in them.

¹¹ And they said, How knoweth God; and whether knowing is on high?

¹² Lo! those sinners and having abundance in the world; held riches.

¹³ And I said, Therefore without cause I justified mine heart; and washed mine hands among innocents.

¹⁴ And I was beaten all day; and my chastising was in morrowtides.

¹⁵ If I said, I shall tell thus; lo! I have reproved the nation of thy sons.

⁶ Therefore pride hath held them; they were covered with their wickedness and unfaithfulness.

⁷ The wickedness of them came forth as of fatness; they went into desire of heart. (Their wickedness came forth like fatness; and they went forth in the desire of their hearts.)

⁸ They thought and spake waywardness; they spake wickedness on high (or they spoke wickedness out loud).

⁹ They putted their mouth into heaven; and their tongue passed in earth. (They put their mouths against heaven; and their tongues went about over all the earth.)

¹⁰ Therefore my people shall be turned again here; and full days shall be found in them. (And so my people followed them; and found nothing to condemn them for.)

¹¹ And they said, How knoweth God; and whether knowing is on high? (And they said, How could God know? how can the Most High have any knowledge of this?)

¹² Lo! those sinners and having abundance in the world; (they) held riches.

¹³ And I said, Therefore without cause I justified mine heart; and washed mine hands among innocents. (And I said, And so I have keep my heart pure, and I have kept my hands clean, all for nothing or all in vain.)

¹⁴ And I was beaten all day; and my chastising was in morrowtides. (Yea, all day long I am beaten down; and I am punished every morning.)

¹⁵ If I said, I shall tell thus; lo! I have reproved the nation of thy sons. (If I had said, I shall talk as they do; behold! I would have brought reproach upon the nation of thy children.)

⁶ Therefore hath pride encircled them, Violence covereth them as a dress.

⁷ Their eye hath come out from fat. The imaginations of the heart transgressed;

⁸ They do corruptly, And they speak in the wickedness of oppression, From on high they speak.

⁹ They have set in the heavens their mouth, And their tongue walketh in the earth.

¹⁰ Therefore do His people return hither, And waters of fulness are wrung out to them.

¹¹ And they have said, 'How hath God known? And is there knowledge in the Most High?'

¹² Lo, these are the wicked and easy ones of the age, They have increased strength.

¹³ Only — a vain thing! I have purified my heart, And I wash in innocency my hands,

¹⁴ And I am plagued all the day, And my reproof is every morning.

¹⁵ If I have said, 'I recount thus,' Lo, a generation of Thy sons I have deceived.
