Psalms 73:1-27 in American Standard Version (1901)

1 A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, Even to such as are pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; My steps had well nigh slipped.
3 For I was envious at the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no pangs in their death; But their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men; Neither are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; Violence covereth them as a garment.
7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.
8 They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression: They speak loftily.
9 They have set their mouth in the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither: And waters of a full cup are drained by them.
11 And they say, How doth God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?
12 Behold, these are the wicked; And, being alway at ease, they increase in riches.
13 Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocency;
14 For all the day long have I been plagued, And chastened every morning.
15 If I had said, I will speak thus; Behold, I had dealt treacherously with the generation of thy children.
16 When I thought how I might know this, It was too painful for me;
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God, And considered their latter end.
18 Surely thou settest them in slippery places: Thou castest them down to destruction.
19 How are they become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.
20 As a dream when one awaketh, So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.
21 For my soul was grieved, And I was pricked in my heart:
22 So brutish was I, and ignorant; I was as a beast before thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: Thou hast holden my right hand.
24 Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.
27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: Thou hast destroyed all them that play the harlot, departing from thee.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Brenton Septuagint Translation

1 A Psalm of instruction for Asaph. Wherefore hast thou rejected us, O God, for ever? wherefore is thy wrath kindled against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation which thou hast purchased from the beginning; thou didst ransom the rod of thine inheritance; this mount Sion wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thine hands against their pride continually; because of all that the enemy has done wickedly in thy holy places.
4 And they that hate thee have boasted in the midst of thy feast; they have set up their standards for signs,
5 ignorantly as it were in the entrance above;
6 they cut down its doors at once with axes as in a wood of trees; they have broken it down with hatchet and stone cutter.
7 They have burnt thy sanctuary with fire to the ground; they have profaned the habitation of thy name.
8 They have said in their heart, even all their kindred together, Come, let us abolish the feasts of the Lord from the earth.
9 We have not seen our signs; there is no longer a prophet; and God will not know us any more.
10 How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach? shall the enemy provoke thy name for ever?
11 Wherefore turnest thou away thine hand, and thy right hand from the midst of thy bosom for ever?
12 But God is our King of old; he has wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou didst establish the sea, in thy might, thou didst break to pieces the heads of the dragons in the water.
14 Thou didst break to pieces the heads of the dragon; thou didst give him for meat to the Ethiopian nations.
15 Thou didst cleave fountains and torrents; thou driedst up mighty rivers.
16 The day is thine, and the night is thine; thou hast prepared the sun and the moon.
17 Thou hast made all the borders of the earth; thou hast made summer and spring.
18 Remember this thy creation: an enemy has reproached the Lord, and a foolish people has provoked thy name.
19 Deliver not to the wild beasts a soul that gives praise to thee: forget not for ever the souls of thy poor.
20 Look upon thy covenant: for the dark places of the earth are filled with the habitations of iniquity.
21 Let not the afflicted and shamed one be rejected: the poor and needy shall praise thy name.
22 Arise, O God, plead thy cause: remember thy reproaches that come from the foolish one all the day.
23 Forget not the voice of thy suppliants: let the pride of them that hate thee continually ascend before thee.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Translation for Translators

1 God truly is good to us Israeli people, to those who totally want to do all that God desires.
2 As for me, I almost stopped trusting in God; it was as though my feet slipped and I stumbled MET,
3 because I envied those who proudly said that they did not need God, and I saw that they prospered even though they were wicked.
4 Those people do not have any pains; they are always strong and healthy.
5 They do not have the troubles/difficulties that other people have; they do not have problems like others do.
6 So they are proud, and their being proud is like a necklace that they show to others, and they show off their violent actions like people show off their beautiful robes.
7 From their inner beings they ◄pour out/do► evil deeds, and they are always thinking about more evil things to do.
8 They scoff at other people, and they talk about doing evil things to them; they are proud while they plan to oppress others.
9 They say evil things about God who is in heaven MTY, and they talk boastfully/proudly about things that they have done here on the earth.
10 The result is that people listen to what they say and praise them and do not think that they have done anything that is wrong.
11 Wicked people say to themselves, “God will certainly not RHQ know what we have done; people say that he is greater than any other god, but he does not know everything.”
12 That is what wicked people are like; they never worry about anything, and they are always becoming richer.
13 So, God, I think it is useless that I have RHQ always done what you want me to, and that I have not sinned.
14 All day long I have problems, and every morning you punish me.
15 If I had said the things that the wicked people say, I would have been sinning against your people.
16 And when I tried to think about all this, it was very difficult for me to understand it.
17 But when I went to your temple, you spoke to me, and I understood what will happen to the wicked people after they die.
18 Now I know that you will surely put them in slippery places, and they will fall down and die.
19 They will be destroyed instantly; they will die in terrible ways.
20 They will disappear as quickly as a dream disappears when a person awakes in the morning; Lord, when you arise, you will ◄cause them to disappear/forget all about them►.
21 When I felt sad/bitter , and brokenhearted,
22 I was stupid and ignorant, and I behaved like an animal toward you.
23 But I am always close to you, and you hold my hand.
24 You guide me by teaching me, and ◄at the end of my life/when I die►, you will receive me and honor me.
25 You are in heaven and I belong to you RHQ, and there is nothing on this earth that I desire more than that.
26 My body and my mind may become very weak, but God, you continue to enable me to be strong; I belong to you forever.
27 Those who remain far from you will be destroyed; you will get rid of those who abandon you.

Psalms 73 in World English Bible British Edition with Deuterocanon

Psalms 73:1-27 in Bible in Basic English

1 A Psalm. Of Asaph. Truly, God is good to Israel, even to such as are clean in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet had almost gone from under me; I was near to slipping;
3 Because of my envy of the men of pride, when I saw the well-being of the wrongdoers.
4 For they have no pain; their bodies are fat and strong.
5 They are not in trouble as others are; they have no part in the unhappy fate of men.
6 For this reason pride is round them like a chain; they are clothed with violent behaviour as with a robe.
7 Their eyes are bursting with fat; they have more than their heart's desire.
8 Their thoughts are deep with evil designs; their talk from their seats of power is of cruel acts.
9 Their mouth goes up to heaven; their tongues go walking through the earth.
10 For this reason they are full of bread; and water is ever flowing for them.
11 And they say, How will the Lord see this? is there knowledge in the Most High?
12 Truly, such are the sinners; they do well at all times, and their wealth is increased.
13 As for me, I have made my heart clean to no purpose, washing my hands in righteousness;
14 For I have been troubled all the day; every morning have I undergone punishment.
15 If I would make clear what it is like, I would say, You are false to the generation of your children.
16 When my thoughts were turned to see the reason of this, it was a weariness in my eyes;
17 Till I went into God's holy place, and saw the end of the evil-doers.
18 You put their feet where there was danger of slipping, so that they go down into destruction.
19 How suddenly are they wasted! fears are the cause of their destruction.
20 As a dream when one is awake, they are ended; they are like an image gone out of mind when sleep is over.
21 My heart was made bitter, and I was pained by the bite of grief:
22 As for me, I was foolish, and without knowledge; I was like a beast before you.
23 But still I am ever with you; you have taken me by my right hand.
24 Your wisdom will be my guide, and later you will put me in a place of honour.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you? and having you I have no desire for anything on earth.
26 My flesh and my heart are wasting away: but God is the Rock of my heart and my eternal heritage.
27 For those who are far away from you will come to destruction: you will put an end to all those who have not kept faith with you.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Darby Translation

1 A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are of a pure heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped;
3 For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished;
5 They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like other men:
6 Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them as a garment;
7 Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:
8 They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:
9 They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them.
11 And they say, How can God know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?
12 Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.
13 Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:
14 For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
15 If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children.
16 When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes;
17 Until I went into the sanctuaries of God; then understood I their end.
18 Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.
19 How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors.
20 As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image.
21 When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins,
22 Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was as a beast with thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand;
24 Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me.
25 Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: God is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever.
27 For behold, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou destroyest every one that goeth a whoring from thee.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Douay-Rheims 1899

1 Understanding for Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off unto the end: why is thy wrath enkindled against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast possessed from the beginning. The sceptre of thy inheritance which thou hast redeemed: mount Sion in which thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 And they that hate thee have made their boasts, in the midst of thy solemnity. They have set up their ensigns for signs,
5 And they knew not both in the going out and on the highest top. As with axes in a wood of trees,
6 They have cut down at once the gates thereof, with axe and hatchet they have brought it down.
7 They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth.
8 They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land.
9 Our signs we have not seen, there is now no prophet: and he will know us no more.
10 How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke thy name for ever?
11 Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever?
12 But God is our king before ages: he hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon: thou hast given him to be meat for the people of the Ethiopians.
15 Thou hast broken up the fountains and the torrents: thou hast dried up the Ethan rivers.
16 Thine is the day, and thine is the night: thou hast made the morning light and the sun.
17 Thou hast made all the borders of the earth: the summer and the spring were formed by thee.
18 Remember this, the enemy hath reproached the Lord: and a foolish people hath provoked thy name.
19 Deliver not up to beasts the souls that confess to thee: and forget not to the end the souls of thy poor.
20 Have regard to thy covenant: for they that are the obscure of the earth have been filled with dwellings of iniquity.
21 Let not the humble be turned away with confusion: the poor and needy shall praise thy name.
22 Arise, O God, judge thy own cause: remember thy reproaches with which the foolish man hath reproached thee all the day.
23 Forget not the voices of thy enemies: the pride of them that hate thee ascendeth continually.

1 A psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to those whose minds are pure.
2 But I was stumbling, my feet were starting to slide,
3 because I was jealous of self-important people—I saw how well the wicked were doing.
4 They don't ever seem to get sick; they are strong and healthy.
5 They don't have problems like other people; they don't get hit by disasters like everybody else.
6 They wear their pride like a necklace; they clothe themselves with violence.
7 Their eyes bulge out because they're so fat; their minds are full of selfish vanity.
8 They mock people, and speak maliciously; they arrogantly threaten cruelty.
9 They talk irreverently against heaven above, and defame people here on earth.
10 As a result people turn to them and drink in everything they say.
11 “God won't find out,” they say. “The Most High doesn't even know what's going on!”
12 Look at these wicked people! They don't have a care in the world, and they're always making money!
13 It's been pointless to keep my mind pure and my hands clean.
14 I'm cursed with suffering all day long; every morning I'm punished.
15 If I'd talked like this to others, I would have betrayed your people.
16 So I thought about it and tried to understand, but it looked like a lot of hard work to me—
17 until I went into God's Temple. Then I understood what happens to the wicked in the end.
18 For you send them on a slippery path; you throw them down to destruction.
19 How quickly they're destroyed! They come to a terrifying end.
20 Like waking up from a dream, Lord—when you get up you will forget all about them!
21 At that time my thoughts were bitter. I felt like I had been stabbed.
22 I was stupid and ignorant. I was like a brute beast to you.
23 Yet I'm always with you; you hold me by the hand.
24 You tell me what to do; and ultimately you will welcome me in glory.
25 Who is there in heaven for me except you? And I want nothing on earth except you.
26 My body and my mind may fail, but God is the foundation of my life. He is mine forever!
27 Those people who are far from God will die. You destroy all those unfaithful to you.

4 For there are no bandes in their death, but they are lustie and strong.

8 They are licentious, and speake wickedly of their oppression: they talke presumptuously.

1 BOOK THIRD: “A Psalm of Assaph.” Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are pure of heart.
2 But as for me, it lacked but little that my feet had been moved: almost nothing was needed that my steps had slipped.
3 For I was envious at the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no deadly fetters for them, but their strength is firm.
5 They share not in the trouble of mortals, and with men are they not afflicted.
6 Therefore is pride their neck-chain: violence envelopeth them as a garment.
7 Their eyes start out from fatness: they have exceeded their heart's imaginings.
8 They scorn, and speak wickedly of oppression: loftily do they speak.
9 They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh busily on the earth.
10 Therefore do his people turn away hither: and waters of a full cup are drained by them.
11 And they say, How should God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High?
12 Behold, these are the wicked; and yet prospering continually they increase in wealth.
13 Verily in vain have I thus cleansed my heart, and have washed in innocency my hands:
14 While I was afflicted all the day, and my chastisement came every morning.
15 But if I were to say, I will speak thus: behold, I would be treacherous against the generation of thy children.
16 And when I should think to know this, it would be trouble in my eyes;
17 Until I enter into the sanctuary of God; and understand what their future will be.
18 Surely thou placest them on slippery spots: thou lettest them fall down into destruction.
19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they perish, they come to their end with terrific events.
20 As a dream after awaking, O Lord, reject thou in wrath their image.
21 For it fermented in my heart, and in my reins I felt sharp thrusts;
22 But I was indeed foolish, and I knew it not: I was as a thoughtless beast with thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast seized hold of me by my right hand.
24 With thy counsel wilt thou guide me, and afterward take me on to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven? and beside thee I desire nothing upon earth.
26 Though my flesh and my heart should fall; yet the rock of my heart, and my portion will be God for ever.
27 For, lo, those that are far from thee shall perish: thou destroyest every one that strayeth away from thee.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Updated Brenton English Septuagint

1 A Psalm of instruction for Asaph. Wherefore hast thou rejected us, O God, forever? Wherefore is thy wrath kindled against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation which thou hast purchased from the beginning; Thou didst ransom the rod of thine inheritance; This Mount Zion wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy hands against their pride continually; Because of all that the enemy has done wickedly in thy holy places.
4 And they that hate thee have boasted in the midst of thy feast; They have set up their standards for signs,
5 Ignorantly as it were in the entrance above;
6 They cut down its doors at once with axes as in a wood of trees; They have broken it down with hatchet and stone cutter.
7 They have burned thy sanctuary with fire to the ground; They have profaned the habitation of thy name.
8 They have said in their heart, even all their kindred together, Come, let us abolish the feasts of the Lord from the earth.
9 We have not seen our signs; There is no longer a prophet; and God will not know us anymore.
10 How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach? Shall the enemy provoke thy name forever?
11 Wherefore turnest thou away thy hand, And thy right hand from the midst of thy bosom forever?
19 Deliver not to the wild beasts a soul that gives praise to thee: Forget not forever the souls of thy poor.

1 “BOOK III. A psalm of Asaph.” Truly God is good to Israel,—To those who are pure in heart.
2 Yet my feet almost gave way; My steps had well nigh slipped:
3 For I was envious of the proud, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pains even to their death; Their bodies are in full health.
5 They have not the woes of other men, Neither are they smitten like other men.
6 Therefore pride encircleth their neck as a collar; Violence covereth them as a garment.
7 From their bosom issueth their iniquity; The designs of their hearts burst forth.
8 They mock, and speak of malicious oppression; Their words are haughty;
9 They stretch forth their mouth to the heavens, And their tongue goeth through the earth;
10 Therefore his people walk in their ways, And there drink from full fountains.
11 And they say, “How doth God know? How can there be knowledge with the Most High?”
12 Behold these are the ungodly! Yet they are ever prosperous; they heap up riches.
13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain; In vain have I washed my hands in innocence.
14 For every day have I been smitten; Every morn have I been chastened.
15 If I should resolve to speak like them, Surely I should be treacherous to the family of thy children.
16 So, when I studied to know this, It was painful to my eyes;
17 Until I went into the sanctuaries of God, And considered what was their end.
18 Behold! thou hast set them on slippery places; Thou castest them down into unseen pits.
19 How are they brought to desolation in a moment, And utterly consumed with sudden destruction!
20 As a dream when one awaketh, Thou, O Lord! when thou awakest, wilt make their vain show a derision.
21 When my heart was vexed And I was pierced in my reins,
22 Then was I stupid and without understanding; I was like one of the brutes before thee.
23 Yet am I ever under thy care; By my right hand thou dost hold me up.
24 Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, And at last receive me in glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee, And whom on earth do I love in comparison with thee?
26 Though my flesh and my heart fail, God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

2 But my feet were almost gone, my steps had nearly slipped,

4 For never a pang have they, their body is sound and sleek.
5 They have no trouble like mortals, no share in human pain.
6 So they wear their pride like a necklace, they put on the garment of wrong,

10 Small wonder that people resort to them, and drink deep draughts of their lore.

13 Yes, in vain have I kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence;

Psalms 73:1-27 in Unlocked Literal Bible

1 A psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those with a pure heart.
2 But as for me, my feet almost slipped; my feet almost slipped out from under me
3 because I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pain until their death, but they are strong and well fed.
5 They are free from the burdens of other men; they are not afflicted like other men.
6 Pride adorns them like a necklace around their neck; violence clothes them like a robe.
7 Out of such blindness comes sin; evil thoughts pass through their hearts.
8 They mock and speak wickedly; in their arrogance they threaten oppression.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongues march through the earth.
10 Therefore his people turn to them and abundant waters are drained out.
11 They say, “How does God know? Is there knowledge with the Most High?”
12 Take notice: these people are wicked; they are always carefree, becoming richer and richer.
13 Surely it is in vain that I have guarded my heart and washed my hands in innocence.
14 For all the day long I have been afflicted and disciplined every morning.
15 If I had said, “I will say these things,” then I would have betrayed this generation of your children.
16 Though I tried to understand these things, it was too difficult for me.
17 Then I went into God's sanctuary and came to understand their fate.
18 Surely you put them in slippery places; you bring them down to ruin.
19 How they become a wilderness in a moment! They come to an end and are finished in awful terrors.
20 They are like a dream after one wakes up; Lord, when you arise, you will think nothing of those dreams.
21 For my heart was grieved, and I was deeply wounded.
22 I was ignorant and lacked insight; I was like a senseless animal before you.
23 Yet I am always with you; you hold my right hand.
24 You will guide me with your advice and afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you? There is no one on earth that I desire but you.
26 My flesh and my heart grow weak, but God is the strength of my heart forever.
27 Those who are far from you will perish; you will destroy all those who are unfaithful to you.
Psalms 73 in Unlocked Literal Bible

Psalms 73:1-27 in World English Bible

1 A Psalm by Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had nearly slipped.
3 For I was envious of the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no struggles in their death, but their strength is firm.
5 They are free from burdens of men, neither are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck. Violence covers them like a garment.
7 Their eyes bulge with fat. Their minds pass the limits of conceit.
8 They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression.
9 They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.
10 Therefore their people return to them, and they drink up waters of abundance.
11 They say, “How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12 Behold, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches.
13 Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence,
14 For all day long I have been plagued, and punished every morning.
15 If I had said, “I will speak thus”, behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
16 When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me—
17 until I entered God’s sanctuary, and considered their latter end.
18 Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.
19 How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.
20 As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.
21 For my soul was grieved. I was embittered in my heart.
22 I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you.
23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you. You have held my right hand.
24 You will guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom do I have in heaven? There is no one on earth whom I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For, behold, those who are far from you shall perish. You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Noah Webster Bible

1 A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they afflicted like other men.
6 Therefore pride encompasseth them as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High?
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.
14 For all the day long have I been afflicted, and chastened every morning.
15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.
18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou didst cast them down into destruction.
19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
20 As a dream when one awaketh; so , O LORD, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.
21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast held me by my right hand.
24 Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee ? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
27 For lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go astray from thee.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

1 The psalm of Asaph. God of Israel is full good; to them that be of rightful or right heart.
2 But my feet were moved almost; my steps were shed or poured out almost.
3 For I loved fervently on wicked men; seeing the peace of sinners.
4 For beholding is not to the death of them; and steadfastness in the sick-ness of them.
5 They be not in travail of other men; and they shall not be beaten with men.
6 Therefore pride hath held them; they were covered with their wicked-ness and unfaithfulness.
7 The wickedness of them came forth as of fatness; they went into desire of heart.
8 They thought and spake wayward-ness; they spake wickedness on high.
9 They putted or put their mouth into heaven; and their tongue passed in the earth.
10 Therefore my people shall be turned again here; and full days shall be found in them.
11 And they said, How knoweth God; and whether knowing is on high?
12 Lo! those sinners and having abundance in the world; held riches.
13 And I said, Therefore without cause I justified mine heart; and washed mine hands among innocents.
14 And I was beaten all day; and my chastising was in morrowtides.
15 If I said, I shall tell thus; lo! I have reproved the nation of thy sons.
16 I guessed, that I should know this; but too much travail is before me.
17 Till I enter into the saintuary of God; and understand in the last things of them.
18 Nevertheless for guiles or treach-eries thou hast put to them; thou castedest them down, while they were raised.
19 How be they made into desolation; they failed suddenly, they perished for their wickedness or waywardness.
20 As the dream of men that rise; Lord, thou shalt drive their image to nought, in thy city.
21 For mine heart is enflamed, and my reins be changed;
22 and I am driven to nought, and I knew not. As a work beast I am made with thee;
23 and I am ever with thee. Thou heldest my right hand,
24 and in thy will thou leddest me forth; and with glory thou tookest me up.
25 For why what is to me in heaven; and what would or desire I of thee on earth?
26 My flesh and mine heart failed; God of mine heart, and my part is God without end.
27 For lo! they that draw away far themselves from thee shall perish; thou hast lost all men that do forni-cation from thee.

Psalms 73:1-27 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

1 The psalm of Asaph. God of Israel is full good; to them that be of rightful heart. (A song by Asaph. The God of Israel is very good; to those who have an upright heart.)
2 But my feet were moved almost; my steps were shed out almost. (But my feet almost stumbled; my steps almost slipped.)
3 For I loved fervently on wicked men; seeing the peace of sinners. (For I envied the wicked; when I saw the prosperity of the sinners.)
4 For beholding is not to the death of them; and steadfastness in the sickness of them. (For it seemed that they never die; yea, they always be strong, and never get sick.)
5 They be not in travail of (other) men; and they shall not be beaten with men. (They do not have trouble, or tribulation, like other people do; and they be not beaten down like others be.)
6 Therefore pride hath held them; they were covered with their wickedness and unfaithfulness.
7 The wickedness of them came forth as of fatness; they went into desire of heart. (Their wickedness came forth like fatness; and they went forth in the desire of their hearts.)
8 They thought and spake waywardness; they spake wickedness on high (or they spoke wickedness out loud).
9 They putted their mouth into heaven; and their tongue passed in earth. (They put their mouths against heaven; and their tongues went about over all the earth.)
10 Therefore my people shall be turned again here; and full days shall be found in them. (And so my people followed them; and found nothing to condemn them for.)
11 And they said, How knoweth God; and whether knowing is on high? (And they said, How could God know? how can the Most High have any knowledge of this?)
12 Lo! those sinners and having abundance in the world; (they) held riches.
13 And I said, Therefore without cause I justified mine heart; and washed mine hands among innocents. (And I said, And so I have keep my heart pure, and I have kept my hands clean, all for nothing or all in vain.)
14 And I was beaten all day; and my chastising was in morrowtides. (Yea, all day long I am beaten down; and I am punished every morning.)
15 If I said, I shall tell thus; lo! I have reproved the nation of thy sons. (If I had said, I shall talk as they do; behold! I would have brought reproach upon the nation of thy children.)
16 I guessed, that I should know this; (but too much) travail is before me. (I tried to work through all of this; but it was too much for me.)
17 Till I enter into the saintuary of God; and understand in the last things of them. (Until I entered into the sanctuary of God; and there I understood their last things, that is, their end.)
18 Nevertheless for guiles thou hast put to them; thou castedest them down, while they were raised. (For thou shalt put them in slippery places; thou shalt throw them down, after they be raised up.)
19 How be they made into desolation; they failed suddenly, they perished for their wickedness/for their waywardness. (How they shall go into desolation! they shall suddenly fail, and they shall perish for all their wickedness or for all their wayward ways.)
20 As the dream of men that (a)rise; Lord, thou shalt drive their image to nought, in thy city. (Like a dream when one awaketh, and it vanisheth; so, Lord, thou shalt drive them down into nothing or until they completely disappear.)
21 For mine heart is enflamed, and my reins be changed; (When my heart was enflamed, and my feelings were hurt;)
22 and I am driven to nought, and I knew not. As a work beast I am made with thee; (and I was driven down into nothing, and I knew nothing; yea, I was made like a work beast before thee;)
23 and I am ever with thee. Thou heldest my right hand, (but still I am ever with thee. Thou holdest my right hand,)
24 and in thy will thou leddest me forth; and with glory thou tookest me up. (and by thy counsel, or thy instruction, thou leadest me forth; and afterward thou shalt receive me with honour.)
25 For why what is to me in heaven; and what would I of thee on earth? (For what is there for me in heaven, but thee? and what else do I desire here on earth, but thee?)
26 My flesh and mine heart failed; God of mine heart, and my part is God into without end. (Though my flesh and my heart fail; but God is my strength, and my portion forever.)
27 For lo! they that draw away far themselves from thee shall perish; thou hast lost all men that do fornication from thee. (For behold! they who take themselves far away from thee, shall perish; thou shalt destroy all those who wantonly abandon thee.)

Psalms 73:1-27 in Young's Literal Translation

1 A Psalm of Asaph. Only — good to Israel is God, to the clean of heart. And I — as a little thing, My feet have been turned aside,
2 As nothing, have my steps slipped, For I have been envious of the boastful,
3 The peace of the wicked I see, That there are no bands at their death,
4 And their might is firm.
5 In the misery of mortals they are not, And with common men they are not plagued.
6 Therefore hath pride encircled them, Violence covereth them as a dress.
7 Their eye hath come out from fat. The imaginations of the heart transgressed;
8 They do corruptly, And they speak in the wickedness of oppression, From on high they speak.
9 They have set in the heavens their mouth, And their tongue walketh in the earth.
10 Therefore do His people return hither, And waters of fulness are wrung out to them.
11 And they have said, 'How hath God known? And is there knowledge in the Most High?'
12 Lo, these are the wicked and easy ones of the age, They have increased strength.
13 Only — a vain thing! I have purified my heart, And I wash in innocency my hands,
14 And I am plagued all the day, And my reproof is every morning.
15 If I have said, 'I recount thus,' Lo, a generation of Thy sons I have deceived.
16 And I think to know this, Perverseness it is in mine eyes,
17 Till I come in to the sanctuaries of God, I attend to their latter end.
18 Only, in slippery places Thou dost set them, Thou hast caused them to fall to desolations.
19 How have they become a desolation as in a moment, They have been ended — consumed from terrors.
20 As a dream from awakening, O Lord, In awaking, their image Thou despisest.
21 For my heart doth show itself violent, And my reins prick themselves,
22 And I am brutish, and do not know. A beast I have been with Thee.
23 And I am continually with Thee, Thou hast laid hold on my right hand.
24 With Thy counsel Thou dost lead me, And after honour dost receive me.
25 Whom have I in the heavens? And with Thee none I have desired in earth.
26 Consumed hath been my flesh and my heart, The rock of my heart and my portion is God to the age.
27 For, lo, those far from Thee do perish, Thou hast cut off every one, Who is going a whoring from Thee.
