Psalms 62:2-9 in English

Help us?

Psalms 62:2-9 in American Standard Version (1901)

2 He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my high tower; I shall not be greatly moved.
3 How long will ye set upon a man, That ye may slay him, all of you, Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
4 They only consult to thrust him down from his dignity; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah
5 My soul, wait thou in silence for God only; For my expectation is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my high tower; I shall not be moved.
7 With God is my salvation and my glory: The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times, ye people; Pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah
9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: In the balances they will go up; They are together lighter than vanity.

Psalms 62:2-9 in Brenton Septuagint Translation

2 O God, my God, I cry to thee early; my soul has thirsted for thee: how often has my flesh longed after thee, in a barren and trackless and dry land!
3 Thus have I appeared before thee in the sanctuary, that I might see thy power and thy glory.
4 For thy mercy is better than life: my lips shall praise thee.
5 Thus will I bless thee during my life: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
6 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and my joyful lips shall praise thy name.
7 Forasmuch as I have remembered thee on my bed: in the early seasons I have meditated on thee.
8 For thou hast been my helper, and in the shelter of thy wings will I rejoice.
9 My soul has kept very close behind thee: thy right hand has upheld me.

Psalms 62:2-9 in Translation for Translators

2 Only he is like an overhanging rock under which I can be safe MET; he will be like a shelter, with the result that I will never be defeated MET.
3 When will you, my enemies, stop attacking me RHQ? I feel that I am as useless against you as a wall that is about to fall over or a broken-down fence MET.
4 My enemies plan to remove me from my important position so that people no longer honor me. They delight in telling lies. They bless people by what they say MTY, but in their inner beings they curse those people.
5 God is the only one who gives me peace in my inner being; he is the one whom I confidently expect to help me.
6 Only he is like an overhanging rock under which I can be safe MET; he is like a shelter, and as a result I will never be defeated.
7 God is the one who saves me and honors me. He is like an overhanging strong rock under which I can find shelter MET.
8 You my people, always trust in him. Tell him all your troubles, because he is ◄our refuge/the one who protects us► MET.
9 People who are considered to be unimportant are as worthless/unreliable as a breath of air; people who are considered to be important also really ◄amount to nothing/cannot be trusted to help us►. If you put them all on a scale, it would be as if they weighed less than a puff of air.

Psalms 62:2-9 in Bible in Basic English

2 He only is my Rock and my salvation; he is my high tower; I will not be greatly moved.
3 How long will you go on designing evil against a man? running against him as against a broken wall, which is on the point of falling?
4 Their only thought is to put him down from his place of honour; their delight is in deceit: blessing is in their mouths but cursing in their hearts. (Selah.)
5 My soul, put all your faith in God; for from him comes my hope.
6 He only is my Rock and my salvation; he is my high tower; I will not be greatly moved.
7 In God is my salvation, and my glory; the Rock of my strength, and my safe place.
8 Have faith in him at all times, you people; let your hearts go flowing out before him: God is our safe place. (Selah.)
9 Truly men of low birth are nothing, and men of high position are not what they seem; if they are put in the scales together they are less than a breath.

3 How long will ye assail a man; will ye seek, all of you, to break him down as a bowing wall or a tottering fence?
4 They only consult to thrust him down from his excellency; they delight in lies; they bless with their mouth, but in their inward part they curse. Selah.
5 Upon God alone, O my soul, rest peacefully; for my expectation is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation; my high fortress: I shall not be moved.
7 With God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.

Psalms 62:2-9 in Douay-Rheims 1899

2 O God, my God, to thee do I watch at break of day. For thee my soul hath thirsted; for thee my flesh, O how many ways!
3 In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.
4 For thy mercy is better than lives: thee my lips shall praise.
5 Thus will I bless thee all my life long: and in thy name I will lift up my hands.
6 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.
7 If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning:
8 Because thou hast been my helper. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings:
9 My soul hath stuck close to thee: thy right hand hath received me.

3 How long are you going to attack me? All of you against one man! To you I'm just a broken wall, a collapsed fence.
4 They plan to throw me down from my high position; they love to tell lies. They say nice things to me, but inside they're cursing me. Selah.
5 Only in God do I find peace; my hope comes from him.
6 He is the one who protects me and saves me; he keeps me safe so I will not be in danger.

2 For why he is both my God, and mine health; mine up-taker, I shall no more be moved.
3 How long fall ye on a man? all ye slain; as to a wall bowed, and as a wall of stone without mortar cast down.
4 Nevertheless they thought to put away my price, I ran in thirst; with their mouth they blessed, and in their heart they cursed.
5 Nevertheless, my soul, be thou subject to God; for my patience is of him.
6 For he is my God, and my saviour; mine helper, I shall not pass out.
7 Mine health, and my glory is in God; God is the giver of mine help, and mine hope is in God.
8 All the gathering together of the people, hope ye in God, pour ye out your hearts before him; God is our helper without end.
9 Nevertheless the sons of men be vain; the sons of men be liars in balances, that they deceive of vanity into the same thing.

Psalms 62:2-9 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

2 For why he is both my God, and mine health; mine up-taker, I shall no more be moved. (For he is both my God, and my deliverer; yea, my defender, and I shall not be shaken, or defeated.)
3 How long fall ye on a man? all ye slain; as to a wall bowed, and as a wall of stone without mortar cast down. (How long shall ye fall upon a man? ye shall all be killed; ye shall be like a wall bowed down, yea, like a stone wall without mortar thrown down.)
4 Nevertheless they thought to put away my price, I ran in thirst; with their mouth they blessed, and in their heart they cursed. (Nevertheless they thought to put him down from his place of honour, and they delighted in lies; they blessed with their mouths, but they cursed in their hearts.)
5 Nevertheless, my soul, be thou subject to God; for my patience is of him. (Nevertheless, my soul, be thou made subject under God; for my hope of deliverance is in him.)
6 For he is my God, and my saviour; mine helper, I shall not pass out. (For he is my God, and my saviour; my helper, and I shall not be moved, or shaken.)
7 Mine health, and my glory is in God; God is the giver of mine help, and mine hope is in God. (My salvation, or my deliverance, and my glory be in God; God is the giver of my help, and my trust is in God.)
8 All the gathering together of the people, hope ye in God, pour ye out your hearts before him; God is our helper into without end (All the gathering together of the people, trust ye in God, pour ye out your hearts before him; God shall be our helper forever.)
9 Nevertheless the sons of men be (all in) vain; the sons of men be liars in balances, that they deceive of vanity into the same thing. (Nevertheless the lives of the sons and daughters of men be but a puff of air; yea, the sons and daughters of men all be liars, and if you put them on a balance, their lives shall be lighter than a breath, or a puff of air.)

Psalms 62:2-9 in Young's Literal Translation

2 Only — He is my rock, and my salvation, My tower, I am not much moved.
3 Till when do ye devise mischief against a man? Ye are destroyed all of you, As a wall inclined, a hedge that is cast down.
4 Only — from his excellency They have consulted to drive away, They enjoy a lie, with their mouth they bless, And with their heart revile. Selah.
5 Only — for God, be silent, O my soul, For from Him is my hope.
6 Only — He is my rock and my salvation, My tower, I am not moved.
7 On God is my salvation, and my honour, The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
8 Trust in Him at all times, O people, Pour forth before Him your heart, God is a refuge for us. Selah.
9 Only — vanity are the low, a lie the high. In balances to go up they than vanity are lighter.
