³ The wicked are estranged from the womb: They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

⁴ Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: They are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear,

⁵ Which hearkeneth not to the voice of charmers, Charming never so wisely.

⁶ Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: Break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Jehovah.

⁷ Let them melt away as water that runneth apace: When he aimeth his arrows, let them be as though they were cut off.

⁸ Let them be as a snail which melteth and passeth away, Like the untimely birth of a woman, that hath not seen the sun.

³ Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

⁴ For, behold, they have hunted after my soul; violent men have set upon me: neither is it my iniquity, nor my sin, O Lord.

⁵ Without iniquity I ran and directed my course aright: awake to help me, and behold.

⁶ And thou, Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, draw nigh to visit all the heathen; pity not any that work iniquity. Pause.

⁷ They shall return at evening, and hunger like a dog, and go round about the city.

⁸ Behold, they shall utter a voice with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips; for who, say they, has heard?

⁴ God, show in the heavens how great you are! And show your glory to people all over the earth! What wicked people say injures people like the venom of a snake MET; They refuse to listen to good advice, as though they were cobras that were deaf MET!

⁵ As a result, like a snake that does not respond when a charmer plays a flute or when someone sings magic songs, they do not pay attention when others rebuke them.

⁶ God, as for these enemies who want to attack me like young lions, break their teeth!

⁷ Cause them to disappear like water disappears in dry ground! Cause the arrows that they shoot to have no ◄heads/sharp points►!

⁸ Cause them to become like snails that disappear in the slime; cause them to be like babies that are born dead!

⁶ O God, let their teeth be broken in their mouths; let the great teeth of the young lions be pulled out, O Lord.

⁷ Let them be turned to liquid like the ever-flowing waters; let them be cut off like the grass by the way.

⁸ Let them be like an after-birth which is turned to water and comes to an end; like the fruit of a woman who gives birth before her time, let them not see the sun.

⁸ Let them be as a snail that melteth as it passeth away; like the untimely birth of a woman, let them not see the sun.

³ Deliver me from them that work iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

⁵ Neither is it my iniquity, nor my sin, O Lord: without iniquity have I run, and directed my steps.

⁶ Rise up thou to meet me, and behold: even thou, O Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel. Attend to visit all the nations: have no mercy on all them that work iniquity.

⁷ They shall return at evening, and shall suffer hunger like dogs: and shall go round about the city.

⁸ Behold they shall speak with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips: for who, say they, hath heard us?

³ The wicked are sinners from birth; from the moment they're born they tell lies.

⁴ They have venom like that of a poisonous snake, and just like a cobra they stop listening,

⁵ refusing to hear the voice of the snake charmers or the spellbinders.

⁶ God, break their teeth, and smash the jaws of these lions, Lord.

⁷ May they vanish like water that flows away; when they shoot their arrows may they miss their mark.

⁸ May they be like the slime of snails that dissolves away, like a stillborn child that never saw the light of day.

⁴ Their poyson is euen like the poyson of a serpent: like ye deafe adder that stoppeth his eare.

⁵ Which heareth not the voyce of the inchanter, though he be most expert in charming.

⁶ Breake their teeth, O God, in their mouthes: breake the iawes of the yong lions, O Lord.

⁷ Let them melt like the waters, let them passe away: when hee shooteth his arrowes, let them be as broken.

⁸ Let them consume like a snayle that melteth, and like the vntimely fruite of a woman, that hath not seene the sunne.

⁴ (58-5) Their venom is like the venom of a serpent; they are like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ear;

⁵ (58-6) Which hearkeneth not to the voice of charmers, or of the most cunning binder of spells.

⁵ (58:6) Which will not hearken to the voice of conjurers, yea, that of the wisest of all charmers.

⁶ (58:7) O God, break out their teeth in their mouth: the jaw-teeth of the young lions tear thou out, O Lord.

⁷ (58:8) Let them melt away as water which runneth off: when each one bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as if cut in pieces.

⁸ (58:9) As a snail which melteth, let him pass away; like the untimely birth of a woman which hath not seen the sun.

³ Sinners were made aliens from the womb (or Sinners, or evil-doers, go wrong from the womb); they erred from the womb, they spake false things.

⁴ Strong vengeance is to them, by the likeness of a serpent; as of a deaf snake, and stopping his ears. (Strong venom cometh forth from them, like that of serpents; and they be like a deaf snake that stoppeth its ears.)

⁵ Which shall not hear the voice of charmers; and of a venom-maker charming (ever so) wisely.

⁶ God shall all-break the teeth of them in their mouth; the Lord shall break (al)together the great teeth of lions. (O God, break all the teeth in their mouths; O Lord, break all in pieces the great teeth of these lions.)

⁷ They shall come to nought, as water running away; he bent his bow, till they be made sick. (They shall come to nothing, like water running forth; and when they go to bend their bows, they shall be made feeble, or weak.)

⁸ As wax that floateth away, they shall be taken away; fire fell above, and they saw not the sun. (Like a snail that melteth away into slime, they shall be taken away; like a dead-born child, they shall not see the sun.)
