¹ For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David. Michtam; when he fled from Saul, in the cave. Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me; For my soul taketh refuge in thee: Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I take refuge, Until these calamities be overpast.

² I will cry unto God Most High, Unto God that performeth all things for me.

³ He will send from heaven, and save me, When he that would swallow me up reproacheth; Selah God will send forth his lovingkindness and his truth.

⁴ My soul is among lions; I lie among them that are set on fire, Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword.

⁵ Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let thy glory be above all the earth.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down: They have digged a pit before me; They are fallen into the midst thereof themselves. Selah

⁷ My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing, yea, I will sing praises.

⁸ Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake right early.

⁹ I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the peoples: I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

¹⁰ For thy lovingkindness is great unto the heavens, And thy truth unto the skies.

¹¹ Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let thy glory be above all the earth.

² If ye do indeed speak righteousness, then do ye judge rightly, ye sons of men.

³ For ye work iniquities in your hearts in the earth: your hands plot unrighteousness.

⁴ Sinners have gone astray from the womb: they go astray from the belly: they speak lies.

⁵ Their venom is like that of a serpent; as that of a deaf asp, and that stops her ears;

⁶ which will not hear the voice of charmers, nor heed the charm prepared skilfully by the wise.

⁷ God has crushed their teeth in their mouth: God has broken the cheek-teeth of the lions.

⁸ They shall utterly pass away like water running through: he shall bend his bow till they shall fail.

⁹ They shall be destroyed as melted wax: the fire has fallen and they have not seen the sun.

¹⁰ Before your thorns feel the white thorn, he shall swallow you up as living, as in his wrath.

¹¹ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance of the ungodly: he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.

¹ God, be merciful to me! Act mercifully toward me because I come to you to protect me. I ask you to protect me like little birds are protected under their mother's wings MET until the storm/danger is ended.

² God, you who are greater than all other gods, I cry out to you, the one who enables me to do all that you desire.

³ You will answer me from heaven and rescue me, but you will cause those who oppress me to be defeated and disgraced! (Think about that!) God will always faithfully love me and ◄will be faithful/will do what he promises►.

⁴ Sometimes I am surrounded by my enemies who are like lions that kill humans; they are like lions that chew with their teeth animals that they kill; but my enemies have spears and arrows, not teeth; and the false things that they say MTY hurt people as much as sharp swords hurt people MET.

⁵ God, show in the heavens that you are very great! And show your glory to people all over the earth!

⁶ It is as if MET, HYP my enemies spread a net to seize me, and I became very distressed IDM. It is as if MET, HYP they dug a deep pit along the path where I walk, but they themselves fell into it!

⁷ God, I have complete confidence DOU in you. I will sing to you, and I will praise you while I sing.

⁸ I will awaken myself; I will arise before the sun rises and praise you while I play my harp or my ◄lyre/small harp►.

⁹ Lord, I will thank you among all the people; and I will sing to praise you among many ethnic groups,

¹⁰ because your faithful love for us is as great as the distance from the earth to the sky, and because your ◄faithfulness/faithfully doing what you promise► is as great as the distance up to the clouds MET.

¹¹ God, show in the heavens that you are very great! And show your glory to people all over the earth!

³ He will send from heaven, and take me from the power of him whose desire is for my destruction. God will send out his mercy and his good faith.

⁴ My soul is among lions; I am stretched out among those who are on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and whose tongue is a sharp sword.

⁵ O God, be lifted up higher than the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

⁶ They have made ready a net for my steps; my soul is bent down; they have made a great hole before me, and have gone down into it themselves. (Selah.)

⁸ You are my glory; let the instruments of music be awake; I myself will be awake with the dawn.

¹⁰ For your mercy is great, stretching up to the heavens, and your righteousness goes up to the clouds.

¹¹ Be lifted up, O God, higher than the heavens, let your glory be over all the earth.

⁴ My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down among them that breathe out flames, the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁵ Be exalted above the heavens, O God; let thy glory be above all the earth!

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down: they have digged a pit before me; they are fallen into the midst thereof. Selah.

² If in very deed you speak justice: judge right things, ye sons of men.

³ For in your heart you work iniquity: your hands forge injustice in the earth.

⁴ The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: they have spoken false things.

⁵ Their madness is according to the likeness of a serpent: like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ears:

⁶ Which will not hear the voice of the charmers; nor of the wizard that charmeth wisely.

⁷ God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth: the Lord shall break the grinders of the lions.

⁸ They shall come to nothing, like water running down; he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.

⁹ Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun.

¹⁰ Before your thorns could know the brier; he swalloweth them up, as alive, in his wrath.

¹¹ The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge: he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.

¹ For the music director. According to “Do Not Destroy.” A psalm (miktam) of David concerning the time he fled from Saul and hid in the cave. Please be kind to me, God! Be kind to me because I come to you for protection. I will shelter under the shadow of your wings until the danger is past.

² I cry out for help to God Most High, to God who vindicates me.

³ From heaven he sends his help, and he saves me. He defeats those who persecute me. Selah. God sends me his unfailing love, showing he is completely trustworthy.

⁴ I am surrounded by man-eating lions—I am forced to live with them! Their teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongues are swords.

⁵ God, your greatness is above the highest heavens; and your glory covers the whole earth!

⁶ They set a trap to catch me. I was so depressed. They dug a pit on my path but they were the ones who fell into it. Selah.

⁷ I have confidence in you, God, I have confidence in you. I will sing songs of praise to you.

⁸ I say to myself, “Wake up!” Wake up, harp and lyre! I will wake up the dawn!

⁹ I will thank you among the peoples, Lord; I will sing your praises among the nations.

¹⁰ Your faithful love reaches to the heavens; your trustworthiness to the clouds.

¹¹ God, your greatness is above the highest heavens; and your glory covers the whole earth!

¹ To him that excelleth. Destroy not. A Psalme of David on Michtam. When he fled from Saul in the cave. Have mercie vpon me, O God, haue mercie vpon me: for my soule trusteth in thee, and in the shadowe of thy wings wil I trust, till these afflictions ouerpasse.

² I will call vnto the most high God, euen to the God, that performeth his promise toward me.

³ He will send from heauen, and saue me from the reproofe of him that would swallowe me. Selah. God wil send his mercy, and his trueth.

⁵ Exalt thy selfe, O God, aboue the heauen, and let thy glory be vpon all the earth.

² (57:3) I will call unto God, the Most High; unto God that accomplisheth his kindness on me.

³ (57:4) He will send from heaven, and save me, though he that longeth to swallow me up utter reproach. Selah. God will send forth his kindness and his truth.

⁴ (57:5) My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down in the midst of those that send out flames, those sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and whose tongue is a sharpened sword.

⁵ (57:6) Be thou exalted above the heavens, O God: above all the earth let thy glory be.

² I call upon God the Most High, Upon God, who performeth all things for me;

³ He will send from heaven, and save me; He will put to shame him that panteth for my life; Pause. God will send forth his mercy and his truth.

⁴ My life is in the midst of lions; I dwell among them that breathe out fire; Among men whose teeth are spears and arrows, And whose tongue is a sharp sword.

⁵ Exalt thyself, O God! above the heavens, And thy glory above all the earth!
