Psalms 56:2-8 in English

² Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long; For they are many that fight proudly against me.

³ What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee.

⁴ In God (I will praise his word), In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid; What can flesh do unto me?

⁵ All the day long they wrest my words: All their thoughts are against me for evil.

⁶ They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, They mark my steps, Even as they have waited for my soul.

⁷ Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

⁸ Thou numberest my wanderings: Put thou my tears into thy bottle; Are they not in thy book?

² Have mercy, upon me, O God, have mercy upon me: for my soul has trusted in thee: and in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until the iniquity have passed away.

³ I will cry to God most high; the God who has benefited me. Pause.

⁴ He sent from heaven and saved me; he gave to reproach them that trampled on me: God has sent forth his mercy and his truth;

⁵ and he has delivered my soul from the midst of lions' whelps: I lay down to sleep, though troubled. As for the sons of men, their teeth are arms and missile weapons, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁶ Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; and thy glory above all the earth.

⁷ They have prepared snares for my feet, and have bowed down my soul: they have dug a pit before my face, and fallen into it themselves. Pause.

⁸ My heart, O God, is ready, my heart is ready: I will sing, yea will sing psalms.

² Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.

³ What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

⁴ In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

⁵ Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

³ But whenever I am afraid, I trust in you.

⁴ God, I praise/thank you because you do what you have promised; I trust in you, and then I am not afraid. Ordinary humans certainly cannot RHQ harm me!

⁵ All day long my enemies claim that I said things that I did not say (OR, try to destroy what I am doing); they are always thinking of ways to harm me.

⁶ In order to cause trouble for me, they hide and watch everything that I do, waiting for an opportunity to kill me MTY.

⁷ So, God, punish them for the wicked things that they are doing; show that you are angry by defeating those people!

⁸ You have counted all the times that I have been wandering alone/distressed; it is as though you have put all my tears in a bottle in order that you can see how much I have cried. You have counted my tears and written the number in your book.

⁴ In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me.

⁵ Every day they make wrong use of my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

⁶ They come together, they are waiting in secret places, they take note of my steps, they are waiting for my soul.

⁷ By evil-doing they will not get free from punishment. In wrath, O God, let the peoples be made low.

⁸ You have seen my wanderings; put the drops from my eyes into your bottle; are they not in your record?

³ In the day that I am afraid, I will confide in thee.

⁴ In God will I praise his word, in God I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can flesh do unto me?

² Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away.

³ I will cry to God the most High; to God who hath done good to me.

⁴ He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth,

⁵ And he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁶ Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth.

⁷ They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it.

⁸ My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will Sing, and rehearse a psalm.

² My enemies chase me down all the time—there are many of them, attacking me in their arrogance.

³ But when I'm afraid, I trust in you.

⁴ I thank God for his promises. I trust in God, so why should I be fearful? What can mere human beings do to me?

⁵ They constantly twist my words against me; they spend all their time thinking of evil things to do to me.

⁶ They gather together in their hiding places to keep watch on me, hoping to kill me.

⁷ Will they escape when they do so much evil? God, in anger bring these people down!

⁸ You've kept track of all my wanderings. You've collected all my tears in your bottle. You've kept a record of each one.

² Mine enemies would dayly swallowe mee vp: for many fight against me, O thou most High.

³ When I was afrayd, I trusted in thee.

⁴ I will reioyce in God, because of his word, I trust in God, and will not feare what flesh can doe vnto me.

⁵ Mine owne wordes grieue me dayly: all their thoughtes are against me to doe me hurt.

⁶ They gather together, and keepe them selues close: they marke my steps, because they waite for my soule.

⁷ They thinke they shall escape by iniquitie: O God, cast these people downe in thine anger.

⁸ Thou hast counted my wandrings: put my teares into thy bottel: are they not in thy register?

² (56:3) Those that regard me with envy long to swallow me up all the time; for many are they that fight against me, O thou Most High.

³ (56:4) The day when I am afraid, I will still trust in thee.

⁴ (56:5) In God will I praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can flesh do unto me?

⁵ (56:6) All the day they wrest my words: against me are all their thoughts for evil.

⁶ (56:7) They come together in troops, they hide themselves, they are those that watch my heels, as though they hoped to take my soul.

⁷ (56:8) Because of their wrong-doing let me escape from them: in anger cast down the people, O God.

⁸ (56:9) My wanderings hast thou well numbered: put thou my tears into thy bottle; behold, they are numbered by thee.

² Mine enemies defouled me all day; for many fighters were against me.

³ Of the highness of day I shall dread; but God, I shall hope in thee.

⁴ In God I shall praise my words; I hoped in God, I shall not dread what thing flesh, or man, shall do to me.

⁵ All day they cursed my words; against me all their thoughts were into evil.

⁶ They shall dwell, and they shall hide; they shall ambush mine heel. As they abide my life,

⁷ for nought shalt thou make them safe; in ire thou shalt break altogether peoples.

⁸ God, I showed my life to thee; thou hast set or puttest my tears in thy sight. As and in thy promise, Lord;

² Mine enemies defouled me all day; for many fighters were against me. (My enemies persecuted me all day long; yea, many fight against me.)

³ Of the highness of day I shall dread; but God, I shall hope in thee. (From the height of the day, I have fear; but God, I put my trust in thee.)

⁴ In God I shall praise my words; I hoped in God, I shall not dread what thing flesh, or man, shall do to me. (Yea, I shall praise God with my words; for I trust in God, and I shall not fear what any person shall do to me.)

⁵ All day they cursed my words; against me all their thoughts were into evil. (All day long they cursed my words; all their thoughts were against me for evil.)

⁶ They shall dwell, and they shall hide; they shall ambush mine heel. As they abide my life (or But though they lie in wait for my life),

⁷ for nought shalt thou make them safe; in ire thou shalt break (al)together peoples. (it is they who shall not escape; for in thy anger, God, thou shalt break them all in pieces.)

⁸ God, I showed my life to thee; thou hast set my tears in thy sight. As and in thy promise, Lord; (God, thou knowest my troubles; thou hast set my tears before thee. Be they not in thy Book, O Lord?)

² Mine enemies have swallowed up all the day, For many are fighting against me, O most High,

³ The day I am afraid I am confident toward Thee.

⁴ In God I praise His word, in God I have trusted, I fear not what flesh doth to me.

⁵ All the day they wrest my words, Concerning me all their thoughts are for evil,

⁶ They assemble, they hide, they watch my heels, When they have expected my soul.

⁷ By iniquity they escape, In anger the peoples put down, O God.
