⁷ Lo, then would I wander far off, I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah

⁸ I would haste me to a shelter From the stormy wind and tempest.

⁹ Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongue; For I have seen violence and strife in the city.

¹⁰ Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: Iniquity also and mischief are in the midst of it.

¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst thereof: Oppression and guile depart not from its streets.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; Then I could have borne it: Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; Then I would have hid myself from him:

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, My companion, and my familiar friend.

¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together; We walked in the house of God with the throng.

¹⁵ Let death come suddenly upon them, Let them go down alive into Sheol; For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call upon God; And Jehovah will save me.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noonday, will I complain, and moan; And he will hear my voice.

⁷ They will dwell near and hide themselves; they will watch my steps, accordingly as I have waited patiently in my soul.

⁸ Thou wilt on no account save them; thou wilt bring down the people in wrath.

⁹ O God, I have declared my life to thee; thou hast set my tears before thee, even according to thy promise.

¹⁰ Mine enemies shall be turned back, in the day wherein I shall call upon thee; behold, I know that thou art my God.

¹¹ In God will I praise his word; in the Lord will I praise his saying.

¹² I have hoped in God; I will not be afraid of what man shall do to me.

¹³ The vows of thy praise, O God, which I will pay, are upon me.

⁹ Lord, confuse my enemies, and cause their plans to fail, because I see them acting violently and causing strife in the city of Jerusalem.

¹⁰ During each day and night they march around on top of its walls, committing crimes and causing trouble.

¹¹ They destroy things everywhere. They oppress and defraud people in the ◄marketplaces/public squares►.

¹² If it were an enemy who was making fun of me, I could endure it. If it were someone who hates me, who despises me, I could hide from him.

¹³ But it is someone who is just like me, my companion, someone who was my friend who is doing this to me.

¹⁴ We previously had many good talks together; we walked around together in God's temple.

¹⁵ I desire/hope that my enemies will die suddenly; while they are still young, cause them to go down to the place where the dead people are. They they think evil things.

¹⁶ But I will ask Yahweh, my God, to help me, and he will save me.

¹⁷ Each morning and each noontime and each evening I tell him what I am concerned about, and I moan, and he hears my voice.

⁷ You will on no account save them; you will bring down the people in wrath.

¹⁰ By day and night they go round the town, on the walls; trouble and sorrow are in the heart of it.

¹¹ Evil is there; cruel rule and deceit are ever in the streets.

¹² For it was not my hater who said evil of me; that would have been no grief to me; it was not one outside the number of my friends who made himself strong against me, or I would have kept myself from him in a secret place;

¹³ But it was you, my equal, my guide, my well-loved friend.

¹⁴ We had loving talk together, and went to the house of God in company.

¹⁵ Let the hand of death come on them suddenly, and let them go down living into the underworld; because evil is in their houses and in their hearts.

¹⁶ As for me, I will make my prayer to God, and he will be my saviour.

¹⁷ In the evening and in the morning and in the middle of the day I will make my prayer with sounds of grief; and my voice will come to his ears.

⁷ Behold, I would flee afar off, I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah;

⁸ I would hasten my escape from the stormy wind, from the tempest.

⁹ Swallow them up, Lord; divide their tongue: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

¹⁰ Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof; and iniquity and mischief are in the midst of it.

¹¹ Perversities are in the midst thereof; and oppression and deceit depart not from its streets.

¹² For it is not an enemy that hath reproached me — then could I have borne it; neither is it he that hateth me that hath magnified himself against me — then would I have hidden myself from him;

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, mine intimate, my familiar friend. ...

¹⁴ We who held sweet intercourse together. To the house of God we walked amid the throng.

¹⁵ Let death seize upon them, let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is in their dwellings, in their midst.

¹⁶ As for me, unto God will I call; and Jehovah will save me.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray and moan aloud; and he will hear my voice.

⁷ They will dwell and hide themselves: they will watch my heel. As they have waited for my soul,

⁸ For nothing shalt thou save them: in thy anger thou shalt break the people in pieces, O God,

⁹ I have declared to thee my life: thou hast set my tears in thy sight, As also in thy promise.

¹⁰ Then shall my enemies be turned back. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, behold I know thou art my God.

¹¹ In God will I praise the word, in the Lord will I praise his speech. In God have I hoped, I will not fear what man can do to me.

¹² In me, O God, are vows to thee, which I will pay, praises to thee:

¹³ Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, my feet from falling: that I may please in the sight of God, in the light of the living.

⁷ I would fly far away to escape, and stay in the wilderness. Selah.

⁸ I would hurry to a place to hide, out of the wind, safe from the raging storm.

⁹ Confuse them, Lord! Muddle what they're saying, for I see violence and conflict in the city.

¹⁰ They patrol the city walls day and night, and wickedness and trouble are within the city.

¹¹ The ones causing destruction are inside the city; frauds and cheats are always on the streets.

¹² The problem is that it's not an enemy who mocks me—I could stand that. It's not someone who hates me who insults me—I could avoid them.

¹³ No, it's you, a man just like me, my best friend who I know so well!

¹⁴ Our friendship was so close. We used to have great talks together as we walked with everyone to the house of God.

¹⁵ May death come quickly to them; may they go down into the grave alive, because evil finds its home in them.

¹⁶ As for me, I cry out to God, and the Lord will save me.

¹⁷ I weep and groan morning, noon, and night, and he listens to me.

⁷ Beholde, I woulde take my flight farre off, and lodge in the wildernes. Selah.

⁸ Hee would make haste for my deliuerance from the stormie winde and tempest.

⁹ Destroy, O Lord, and deuide their tongues: for I haue seene crueltie and strife in the citie.

¹⁰ Day and night they goe about it vpon the walles thereof: both iniquitie and mischiefe are in the middes of it.

¹¹ Wickednes is in the middes thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streetes.

¹² Surely mine enemie did not defame mee: for I could haue borne it: neither did mine aduersarie exalt himselfe against mee: for I would haue hid me from him.

¹³ But it was thou, O man, euen my companion, my guide and my familiar:

¹⁴ Which delited in consulting together, and went into the House of God as companions.

¹⁵ Let death sense vpon them: let them goe downe quicke into the graue: for wickednes is in their dwellings, euen in the middes of them.

¹⁶ But I will call vnto God, and the Lord will saue me.

¹⁴ (55:15) So that we took sweet secret counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in tumultuous company.

¹⁵ (55:16) Let him dispense death over them; let them go down alive into the nether world; for evil is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

¹⁶ (55:17) I, however, will call on God: and the Lord will save me.

¹⁷ (55:18) At evening and morning and noon will I make my complaint and moan: and he heareth my voice.—

¹¹ within is ruin. Her market-place is never free of deceit and tyranny.

¹² The taunts were not those of a foe that I could have borne; the disdain was not that of an enemy I could have shunned them:

¹³ but it was you, my equal, my dear and familiar friend.

¹⁴ We used to be so close, together we walked in God's house with the crowd.

¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst of it: deceit and guile depart not from her streets.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it : neither was it he that hated me that magnified himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

¹³ But it was thou, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance.

¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company.

¹⁵ Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call upon God: and the LORD will save me.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he will hear my voice.

⁷ Behold, then I would wander far off. I would lodge in the wilderness.” Selah.

⁸ “I would hurry to a shelter from the stormy wind and storm.”

⁹ Confuse them, Lord, and confound their language, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

¹⁰ Day and night they prowl around on its walls. Malice and abuse are also within her.

¹¹ Destructive forces are within her. Threats and lies don’t depart from her streets.

¹⁰ By day and night wickedness shall encompass it on the walls thereof; and travail and unrightfulness be in the midst of them.

¹¹ And usury and guile or treachery failed not; from the streets thereof.

¹² For if mine enemy had cursed me; soothly I had suffered. And if he, that hated me, had spoken great things on me; in hap I had hid me from him.

¹³ But thou art a man of one will; my leader, and my known.

¹⁴ Which tookest together sweet meats and fellowship with me; we went with consent in the house of God.

¹⁵ Death come on them; and go they down quick into hell. For way-wardnesses be in the dwelling places of them; in the midst of them.

¹⁶ But I cried to thee, Lord; and the Lord saved me.

¹⁷ In the eventide, and the morrow-tide, and in midday, I shall tell, and show; and he shall hear my voice.

⁷ Lo! I went far away, and fled; and I dwelled in wilderness. (Behold! I would flee far away; and I would live in the wilderness.)

⁸ I abode him, that made me safe from the littleness, either dread, of spirit; and from tempest. (I would hasten, and make myself safe from the wind, and from the tempest.)

⁹ Lord, cast thou down, and part thou the tongues of them; for I saw wickedness and against-saying in the city.

¹⁰ By day and night wickedness shall (en)compass it on the walls thereof; and travail and unrightfulness be in the midst of them. (Day and night they surround the city, all along its walls; and trouble and unrighteousness be in its midst.)

¹¹ And usury and guile failed not; from the streets thereof. (And greed, and deceit, always be found in its streets.)

¹² For if mine enemy had cursed me; soothly I had suffered. And if he, that hated me, had spoken great things on me; in hap I had hid me from him. (For if my enemy had cursed me; truly I would have suffered it. And if he, who hated me, had spoken great things against me; I would have hid myself from him.)

¹³ But thou art a man of one will (with me); my leader, and my known. (But thou art a man of one mind with me; my leader, and my dear friend.)

¹⁴ Which tookest together sweet meats with me; we went with consent in(to) the house of God. (Who shared his good counsel with me; and we went together to the House of God.)

¹⁵ Death come on them; and go they down quick into hell, (or May death come upon them; and may they go down alive into Sheol, or the land of the dead). For waywardnesses be in the dwelling places of them; (and) in the midst of them.

¹⁶ But I cried to thee, Lord; and the Lord saved me. (But I shall cry to thee, Lord; and the Lord will save me.)

¹⁷ In the eventide, and the morrowtide, and in midday (or and at midday), I shall tell, and show (him); and he shall hear my voice.

⁷ Lo, I move far off, I lodge in a wilderness. Selah.

⁸ I hasten escape for myself, From a rushing wind, from a whirlwind.

⁹ Swallow up, O Lord, divide their tongue, For I saw violence and strife in a city.

¹⁰ By day and by night they go round it, on its walls. Both iniquity and perverseness are in its midst,

¹¹ Mischiefs are in its midst. Fraud and deceit depart not from its street.

¹² For an enemy reproacheth me not, or I bear it, He who is hating me Hath not magnified himself against me, Or I hide from him.

¹³ But thou, a man — as mine equal, My familiar friend, and mine acquaintance.

¹⁴ When together we sweeten counsel, Into the house of God we walk in company.

¹⁵ Desolations are upon them, They go down to Sheol — alive, For wickedness is in their dwelling, in their midst.

¹⁶ I — to God I call, and Jehovah saveth me.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and noon, I meditate, and make a noise, and He heareth my voice,
