⁵ Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, And horror hath overwhelmed me.

⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! Then would I fly away, and be at rest.

⁷ Lo, then would I wander far off, I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah

⁸ I would haste me to a shelter From the stormy wind and tempest.

⁹ Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongue; For I have seen violence and strife in the city.

¹⁰ Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: Iniquity also and mischief are in the midst of it.

¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst thereof: Oppression and guile depart not from its streets.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; Then I could have borne it: Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; Then I would have hid myself from him:

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, My companion, and my familiar friend.

⁵ In God I will praise my words; all the day have I hoped in God; I will not fear what flesh shall do to me.

⁶ All the day long they have abominated my words; all their devices are against me for evil.

⁷ They will dwell near and hide themselves; they will watch my steps, accordingly as I have waited patiently in my soul.

⁸ Thou wilt on no account save them; thou wilt bring down the people in wrath.

⁹ O God, I have declared my life to thee; thou hast set my tears before thee, even according to thy promise.

¹⁰ Mine enemies shall be turned back, in the day wherein I shall call upon thee; behold, I know that thou art my God.

¹¹ In God will I praise his word; in the Lord will I praise his saying.

¹² I have hoped in God; I will not be afraid of what man shall do to me.

¹³ The vows of thy praise, O God, which I will pay, are upon me.

⁸ I would quickly find a shelter from my enemies who are like MET a strong wind and rainstorm.”

⁹ Lord, confuse my enemies, and cause their plans to fail, because I see them acting violently and causing strife in the city of Jerusalem.

¹⁰ During each day and night they march around on top of its walls, committing crimes and causing trouble.

¹¹ They destroy things everywhere. They oppress and defraud people in the ◄marketplaces/public squares►.

¹² If it were an enemy who was making fun of me, I could endure it. If it were someone who hates me, who despises me, I could hide from him.

¹³ But it is someone who is just like me, my companion, someone who was my friend who is doing this to me.

⁸ I would quickly take cover from the driving storm and from the violent wind.

⁹ Send destruction on them, O Lord, make a division of tongues among them: for I have seen fighting and violent acts in the town.

¹⁰ By day and night they go round the town, on the walls; trouble and sorrow are in the heart of it.

¹¹ Evil is there; cruel rule and deceit are ever in the streets.

¹² For it was not my hater who said evil of me; that would have been no grief to me; it was not one outside the number of my friends who made himself strong against me, or I would have kept myself from him in a secret place;

¹³ But it was you, my equal, my guide, my well-loved friend.

¹¹ Perversities are in the midst thereof; and oppression and deceit depart not from its streets.

¹² For it is not an enemy that hath reproached me — then could I have borne it; neither is it he that hateth me that hath magnified himself against me — then would I have hidden myself from him;

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, mine intimate, my familiar friend. ...

⁵ In God I will praise my words, in God I have put my trust: I will not fear what flesh can do against me.

⁶ All the day long they detested my words: all their thoughts were against me unto evil.

⁷ They will dwell and hide themselves: they will watch my heel. As they have waited for my soul,

⁸ For nothing shalt thou save them: in thy anger thou shalt break the people in pieces, O God,

⁹ I have declared to thee my life: thou hast set my tears in thy sight, As also in thy promise.

¹⁰ Then shall my enemies be turned back. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, behold I know thou art my God.

¹¹ In God will I praise the word, in the Lord will I praise his speech. In God have I hoped, I will not fear what man can do to me.

¹² In me, O God, are vows to thee, which I will pay, praises to thee:

¹³ Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, my feet from falling: that I may please in the sight of God, in the light of the living.

⁵ I'm in a panic, trembling with fear; feelings of horror wash over me.

⁶ I tell myself, If only God would give me wings like a dove so I could fly away and be at peace!

⁷ I would fly far away to escape, and stay in the wilderness. Selah.

⁸ I would hurry to a place to hide, out of the wind, safe from the raging storm.

⁹ Confuse them, Lord! Muddle what they're saying, for I see violence and conflict in the city.

¹⁰ They patrol the city walls day and night, and wickedness and trouble are within the city.

¹¹ The ones causing destruction are inside the city; frauds and cheats are always on the streets.

¹² The problem is that it's not an enemy who mocks me—I could stand that. It's not someone who hates me who insults me—I could avoid them.

¹³ No, it's you, a man just like me, my best friend who I know so well!

⁵ Feare and trembling are come vpon mee, and an horrible feare hath couered me.

⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a doue: then would I flie away and rest.

⁷ Beholde, I woulde take my flight farre off, and lodge in the wildernes. Selah.

⁸ Hee would make haste for my deliuerance from the stormie winde and tempest.

⁹ Destroy, O Lord, and deuide their tongues: for I haue seene crueltie and strife in the citie.

¹⁰ Day and night they goe about it vpon the walles thereof: both iniquitie and mischiefe are in the middes of it.

¹¹ Wickednes is in the middes thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streetes.

¹² Surely mine enemie did not defame mee: for I could haue borne it: neither did mine aduersarie exalt himselfe against mee: for I would haue hid me from him.

¹³ But it was thou, O man, euen my companion, my guide and my familiar:

¹⁰ (55:11) Day and night do these encompass it upon her walls: and wrong and trouble are in her midst.

¹¹ (55:12) Mischief is in her midst: guile and deceit depart not from her streets.

¹² (55:13) For it is not an enemy that reproached me; then I could bear it: not he that hateth me hath magnified himself against me; then I would have hidden myself from him;

¹³ (55:14) But it is thou, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance;

¹¹ And usury and guile or treachery failed not; from the streets thereof.

¹² For if mine enemy had cursed me; soothly I had suffered. And if he, that hated me, had spoken great things on me; in hap I had hid me from him.

¹³ But thou art a man of one will; my leader, and my known.

⁵ Dread and trembling came on me (or Fear and trembling came upon me); and darknesses covered me.

⁶ And I said, Who shall give to me feathers, as of a culver; and I shall fly, and shall take rest? (And I said, Who shall give me wings like a dove? and then I can fly away, and get some rest.)

⁷ Lo! I went far away, and fled; and I dwelled in wilderness. (Behold! I would flee far away; and I would live in the wilderness.)

⁸ I abode him, that made me safe from the littleness, either dread, of spirit; and from tempest. (I would hasten, and make myself safe from the wind, and from the tempest.)

⁹ Lord, cast thou down, and part thou the tongues of them; for I saw wickedness and against-saying in the city.

¹⁰ By day and night wickedness shall (en)compass it on the walls thereof; and travail and unrightfulness be in the midst of them. (Day and night they surround the city, all along its walls; and trouble and unrighteousness be in its midst.)

¹¹ And usury and guile failed not; from the streets thereof. (And greed, and deceit, always be found in its streets.)

¹² For if mine enemy had cursed me; soothly I had suffered. And if he, that hated me, had spoken great things on me; in hap I had hid me from him. (For if my enemy had cursed me; truly I would have suffered it. And if he, who hated me, had spoken great things against me; I would have hid myself from him.)

¹³ But thou art a man of one will (with me); my leader, and my known. (But thou art a man of one mind with me; my leader, and my dear friend.)

⁵ Fear and trembling come in to me, And horror doth cover me.

⁶ And I say, 'Who doth give to me a pinion as a dove? I fly away and rest,

⁷ Lo, I move far off, I lodge in a wilderness. Selah.

⁸ I hasten escape for myself, From a rushing wind, from a whirlwind.

⁹ Swallow up, O Lord, divide their tongue, For I saw violence and strife in a city.

¹⁰ By day and by night they go round it, on its walls. Both iniquity and perverseness are in its midst,

¹¹ Mischiefs are in its midst. Fraud and deceit depart not from its street.

¹² For an enemy reproacheth me not, or I bear it, He who is hating me Hath not magnified himself against me, Or I hide from him.

¹³ But thou, a man — as mine equal, My familiar friend, and mine acquaintance.
