²⁰ He hath put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him: He hath profaned his covenant.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, But his heart was war: His words were softer than oil, Yet were they drawn swords.

²² Cast thy burden upon Jehovah, and he will sustain thee: He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

²³ But thou, O God, wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in thee.

²¹ What he said was easy to listen to, like butter is easy to swallow MET, but in his inner being he hated people; his words were soothing like olive oil, but they hurt people like sharp swords do MET.

²² Put your troubles in Yahweh's hands, and he will take care of you; he will never allow righteous people to experience disasters.

²³ God, you will cause murderers MTY and liars to die before they have lived half as long as they expect to live; but as for me, I will trust in you.

²¹ What he says is as smooth as butter, but inside he plans war; his words are as soothing as oil, but they cut like sharp swords.

²² Throw your burdens onto the Lord and he will take care of you. He will never allow those who live right to fall.

²³ But you, God, will bring down murderers and liars, throwing them into the pit of destruction before they have even lived half their lives. As for me, I will trust in you.

²⁰ Hee layed his hande vpon such, as be at peace with him, and he brake his couenant.

²¹ The wordes of his mouth were softer then butter, yet warre was in his heart: his words were more gentle then oyle, yet they were swordes.

²² Cast thy burden vpon the Lord, and hee shall nourish thee: he wil not suffer the righteous to fall for euer.

²³ And thou, O God, shalt bring them downe into the pitte of corruption: the bloudie, and deceitfull men shall not liue halfe their dayes: but I will trust in thee.

²³ But you, God, will bring the wicked down into the pit of destruction; bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live even half as long as others, but I will trust in you.

²¹ the cheers thereof were parted from ire; and his heart nighed. The words thereof were softer than oil; and they be darts.

²² Cast thy care, or thought, or thy busyness, on the Lord, and he shall fully nourish thee; and he shall not give without end fluttering to a just or rightwise man.

²³ But thou, God, shalt lead them forth; into the pit of death. Men-quellers and beguilers shall not have half their days; but, Lord, I shall hope in thee.

²⁰ he holdeth forth his hand in yielding. They defouled his testament, (indeed, they put forth their hands, against those who be at peace with them. They have broken their promise, or their covenant,)

²¹ the cheers thereof were parted from ire; and his heart nighed. The words thereof were softer than oil; and they be darts. (their words were smoother than butter; but battle was in their hearts. Their words were softer than oil; but they were as sharp as darts.)

²² Cast thy care, or thought, (or) thy busyness, on the Lord, and he shall fully nourish thee; and he shall not give into without end fluttering to a just man. (Cast thy burdens upon the Lord, and he shall nourish and protect thee; yea, he shall not allow the righteous to be moved, or shaken.)

²³ But thou, God, shalt lead them forth; into the pit of death. Men-quellers and beguilers shall not have half their days; but, Lord, I shall hope in thee. (But murderers and deceivers shall not have half their days; for thou, God, shalt lead them forth, into the pit of death. But, O Lord, I shall put my trust in thee.)

²⁰ He hath sent forth his hands against his well-wishers, He hath polluted his covenant.

²¹ Sweeter than honey hath been his mouth, And his heart is war! Softer have been his words than oil, And they are drawn swords.

²² Cast on Jehovah that which He hath given thee, And He doth sustain thee, He doth not suffer for ever the moving of the righteous.

²³ And Thou, O God, dost bring them down To a pit of destruction, Men of blood and deceit reach not to half their days, And I — I do trust in Thee!
