Psalms 55:13-19 in English

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, My companion, and my familiar friend.

¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together; We walked in the house of God with the throng.

¹⁵ Let death come suddenly upon them, Let them go down alive into Sheol; For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call upon God; And Jehovah will save me.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noonday, will I complain, and moan; And he will hear my voice.

¹⁸ He hath redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me; For they were many that strove with me.

¹⁹ God will hear, and answer them, Even he that abideth of old, Selah The men who have no changes, And who fear not God.

¹³ The vows of thy praise, O God, which I will pay, are upon me.

¹⁴ For thou hast delivered my soul from death, and my feet from sliding, that I should be well-pleasing before God in the land of the living.

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.

¹³ But it is someone who is just like me, my companion, someone who was my friend who is doing this to me.

¹⁴ We previously had many good talks together; we walked around together in God's temple.

¹⁵ I desire/hope that my enemies will die suddenly; while they are still young, cause them to go down to the place where the dead people are. They they think evil things.

¹⁶ But I will ask Yahweh, my God, to help me, and he will save me.

¹⁷ Each morning and each noontime and each evening I tell him what I am concerned about, and I moan, and he hears my voice.

¹⁸ I have very many enemies, but he will rescue me and bring me back safely from the battles that I fight.

¹⁹ God is the one who has ruled everything forever, and he will listen to me. He will cause my enemies to be defeated and disgraced, because they do not change their evil behavior and they do not reevere God.

¹⁶ As for me, I will make my prayer to God, and he will be my saviour.

¹⁷ In the evening and in the morning and in the middle of the day I will make my prayer with sounds of grief; and my voice will come to his ears.

¹⁸ He has taken my soul away from the attack which was made against me, and given it peace; for great numbers were against me.

¹⁹ God will give thought to me; he who from early times is strong will send pain and trouble on them. (Selah.) Because they are unchanged, they have no fear of God.

¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal, mine intimate, my familiar friend. ...

¹⁴ We who held sweet intercourse together. To the house of God we walked amid the throng.

¹⁵ Let death seize upon them, let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is in their dwellings, in their midst.

¹⁶ As for me, unto God will I call; and Jehovah will save me.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray and moan aloud; and he will hear my voice.

¹⁸ He hath redeemed my soul in peace from the battle against me: for there were many about me.

¹⁹ God will hear, and afflict them: he that is seated of old, (Selah) ...because there is no change in them, and they fear not God.

¹³ Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, my feet from falling: that I may please in the sight of God, in the light of the living.

¹³ No, it's you, a man just like me, my best friend who I know so well!

¹⁴ Our friendship was so close. We used to have great talks together as we walked with everyone to the house of God.

¹⁵ May death come quickly to them; may they go down into the grave alive, because evil finds its home in them.

¹⁶ As for me, I cry out to God, and the Lord will save me.

¹⁷ I weep and groan morning, noon, and night, and he listens to me.

¹⁸ He rescues me, keeping me safe and sound from my attackers, because there are so many against me.

¹⁹ God who has ruled from the beginning will hear me and answer them. Selah. For they refuse to change and don't respect God.

¹³ But it was thou, O man, euen my companion, my guide and my familiar:

¹⁴ Which delited in consulting together, and went into the House of God as companions.

¹⁵ Let death sense vpon them: let them goe downe quicke into the graue: for wickednes is in their dwellings, euen in the middes of them.

¹⁶ But I will call vnto God, and the Lord will saue me.

¹⁷ Euening and morning, and at noone will I pray, and make a noyse, and he wil heare my voice.

¹⁸ He hath deliuered my soule in peace from the battel, that was against me: for many were with me.

¹⁹ God shall heare and afflict them, euen hee that reigneth of olde, Selah. because they haue no changes, therefore they feare not God.

¹⁴ (55-15) We took sweet counsel together, in the house of God we walked with the throng.

¹⁵ (55-16) May He incite death against them, let them go down alive into the nether-world; for evil is in their dwelling, and within them.

¹⁶ (55-17) As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.

¹⁷ (55-18) Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I complain, and moan; and He hath heard my voice.

¹⁸ (55-19) He hath redeemed my soul in peace so that none came nigh me; for they were many that strove with me.

¹⁹ (55-20) God shall hear, and humble them, even He that is enthroned of old, Selah, such as have no changes, and fear not God.

¹⁴ (55:15) So that we took sweet secret counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in tumultuous company.

¹⁵ (55:16) Let him dispense death over them; let them go down alive into the nether world; for evil is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

¹⁶ (55:17) I, however, will call on God: and the Lord will save me.

¹⁷ (55:18) At evening and morning and noon will I make my complaint and moan: and he heareth my voice.—

¹⁸ (55:19) He delivereth my soul in peace from the battle against me; for in multitudes are they contending with me.

¹⁹ (55:20) God will hear, and humble them—yea, he that sitteth enthroned from the oldest time Selah—those who dread no changes, and fear not God.

¹⁷ At evening, at morn, and at noon I mourn and sigh, And he will hear my voice.

¹⁸ He will deliver me in peace from my conflict; For many have risen up against me.

¹⁹ God will hear me, and bring them down,—He that hath been judge of old. Pause. Because they have no changes, Therefore they fear not God.

¹³ but it was you, my equal, my dear and familiar friend.

¹⁴ We used to be so close, together we walked in God's house with the crowd.

¹⁵ May death suddenly take them, may they go down to Sheol alive, for evil lives in their homes and their hearts.

¹⁶ But I will call on God, the Lord will save me.

¹⁸ though I am attacked by many he will rescue me, unharmed from the war.

¹⁸ He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, although there are many who oppose me.

¹⁹ God, who is enthroned forever, will sh'ma ·hear obey·, and humble them. Selah ·contemplation with musical interlude·. They never change, who don’t fear God.

¹³ But it was you, a man equal to myself, my companion and my close friend.

¹⁵ Let death come suddenly on them; let them go down alive to Sheol, for wickedness is where they live, right among them.

¹⁸ He will safely rescue my life from the battle that was against me, for those who fought against me were many.

¹⁵ Death come on them; and go they down quick into hell. For way-wardnesses be in the dwelling places of them; in the midst of them.

¹⁶ But I cried to thee, Lord; and the Lord saved me.

¹⁷ In the eventide, and the morrow-tide, and in midday, I shall tell, and show; and he shall hear my voice.

¹⁸ He shall again-buy my soul in peace from them, that nigh to me; for among many they were with me.

¹⁹ God shall hear; and he that is before the worlds shall make them low. For changing is not to them, and they dreaded not God;

¹³ But thou art a man of one will (with me); my leader, and my known. (But thou art a man of one mind with me; my leader, and my dear friend.)

¹⁴ Which tookest together sweet meats with me; we went with consent in(to) the house of God. (Who shared his good counsel with me; and we went together to the House of God.)

¹⁵ Death come on them; and go they down quick into hell, (or May death come upon them; and may they go down alive into Sheol, or the land of the dead). For waywardnesses be in the dwelling places of them; (and) in the midst of them.

¹⁶ But I cried to thee, Lord; and the Lord saved me. (But I shall cry to thee, Lord; and the Lord will save me.)

¹⁷ In the eventide, and the morrowtide, and in midday (or and at midday), I shall tell, and show (him); and he shall hear my voice.

¹⁸ He shall again-buy my soul in peace from them, that nigh to me; for among many they were with me. (And he shall deliver my soul unto peace again, from those who come against me; for there were many against me.)

¹⁹ God shall hear; and he that is before the worlds shall make them low. For changing is not to them, and they dreaded not God; (God shall hear; and he who was before the worlds, shall humble them. For changing is not to them, and they do not fear God;)

¹³ But thou, a man — as mine equal, My familiar friend, and mine acquaintance.

¹⁴ When together we sweeten counsel, Into the house of God we walk in company.

¹⁵ Desolations are upon them, They go down to Sheol — alive, For wickedness is in their dwelling, in their midst.

¹⁶ I — to God I call, and Jehovah saveth me.

¹⁸ He hath ransomed in peace my soul From him who is near to me, For with the multitude they were with me.
