¹ For the Chief Musician. Maschil of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech. Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endureth continually.

² Thy tongue deviseth very wickedness, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

³ Thou lovest evil more than good, And lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah

⁴ Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

⁵ God will likewise destroy thee for ever; He will take thee up, and pluck thee out of thy tent, And root thee out of the land of the living. Selah

⁶ The righteous also shall see it, and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying,

¹ For the end, a Psalm of David upon Maeleth, of instruction.

² The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that does good.

³ God looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any that understood, or sought after God.

⁴ They have all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, there is not even one.

⁵ Will none of the workers of iniquity know, who devour my people as they would eat bread? they have not called upon God. There were they greatly afraid, where there was no fear:

⁶ for God has scattered the bones of the men-pleasers; they were ashamed, for God despised them.

⁶ The righteous also shall see it, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,

¹ You people think that you are strong and brag about the sins that you have committed, while you plan to harm godly people.

² All during the day you plan to get rid of others; what you say MTY injures others like a sharp razor SIM, and you are always deceiving others.

³ You like doing what is evil more than you like doing what is good, and you like telling lies more than you like telling the truth.

⁴ You who say things MTY to deceive people, you like to say ◄things that hurt people/cruel things►!

⁵ But God will get rid of you forever; he will grab you and drag you from your home and take you away from this world where people are alive.

⁶ When righteous people see that, they will be awestruck, and they will laugh at what happened to you, and say,

² Purposing destruction, using deceit; your tongue is like a sharp blade.

³ You have more love for evil than for good, for deceit than for works of righteousness. (Selah.)

⁴ Destruction is in all your words, O false tongue.

⁵ But God will put an end to you for ever; driving you out from your tent, uprooting you from the land of the living. (Selah.)

⁶ The upright will see it with fear, and will say, laughing at you:

¹ Unto the end, for Maeleth, understandings to David. The fool said in his heart: There is no God.

² They are corrupted, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that doth good.

³ God looked down from heaven on the children of men: to see if there were any that did understand, or did seek God.

⁴ All have gone aside, they are become unprofitable together, there is none that doth good, no not one.

⁵ Shall not all the workers of iniquity know, who eat up my people as they eat bread?

⁶ They have not called upon God: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear. For God hath scattered the bones of them that please men: they have been confounded, because God hath despised them.

¹ For the music director. A psalm (maskil) of David, concerning the time when Doeg the Edomite went to Saul and told him, “David has gone to the home of Ahimelech.” You great man, why do you boast about the evil things you've done? God's trustworthy love lasts all day long.

² You plot to make people suffer; your words cut like a sharp razor, you liar!

³ You love evil more than good, and telling lies more than speaking the truth. Selah.

⁴ You love slanderous words that destroy others, you liar!

⁵ But God will strike you down so hard you'll never get up. He will grab hold of you and drag you from your tent. He will tear you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁶ Those who do right will see all this. They will be astonished and laugh, saying,

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid to giue instruction. When Doeg the Edomite came and shewed Saul, and saide to him, Dauid is come to the house of Abimelech. Why boastest thou thy selfe in thy wickednesse, O man of power? the louing kindenesse of God indureth dayly.

² Thy tongue imagineth mischiefe, and is like a sharpe rasor, that cutteth deceitfully.

³ Thou doest loue euill more then good, and lies more then to speake the trueth. Selah.

⁴ Thou louest all wordes that may destroye, O deceitfull tongue!

⁵ So shall God destroy thee for euer: he shall take thee and plucke thee out of thy tabernacle, and roote thee out of ye land of the liuing. Selah.

⁶ The righteous also shall see it, and feare, and shall laugh at him, saying,

¹ (52-1) For the Leader. Maschil of David; (52-2) when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him: 'David is come to the house of Ahimelech.' (52-3) Why boastest thou thyself of evil, O mighty man? The mercy of God endureth continually.

² (52-4) Thy tongue deviseth destruction; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

³ (52-5) Thou lovest evil more than good; falsehood rather than speaking righteousness. Selah

⁴ (52-6) Thou lovest all devouring words, the deceitful tongue.

⁵ (52-7) God will likewise break thee for ever, He will take thee up, and pluck thee out of thy tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah

³ (52:5) Thou lovest evil more than good; falsehood more than speaking righteousness. Selah.

⁴ (52:6) Thou lovest all words of destruction, the tongue of deceit.

⁵ (52:7) Therefore God will also destroy thee for ever: he will take thee away, and pluck thee out of his tent, and root thee out of the land of life. Selah.—

⁵ Thee also shall God utterly destroy! o He shall seize thee, and tear thee from thy dwelling-place, And uproot thee from the land of the living. Pause.

⁶ The righteous shall see and fear, And shall laugh at him.

³ Thou lovedest malice more than benignity; and wickedness more than to speak equity.

⁴ Thou lovedest all words of casting down; with a guileful or treacherous tongue.

⁵ Therefore God shall destroy thee into the end, he shall draw thee out by the root, and he shall make thee to pass away from thy tabernacle; and thy root from the land of living men.

⁶ Just or Rightwise men shall see, and shall dread; and they shall laugh on him,

¹ To victory, the psalm of David, when Doeg (the) Idumaean came, and told to Saul, and said to him, David came into the house of Ahimelech. What hast thou glory in malice; which art mighty in wickedness? (For the choirmaster, a song by David, when Doeg the Edomite came, and told Saul, and said to him, David went into the house of Ahimelech. Why hast thou glory in evil, or in wickedness, mighty man? but the goodness of God endureth forever.)

² All day thy tongue thought unrightfulness; as a sharp razor thou hast done guile. (Thy tongue speaketh unrighteousness, sharp like a razor; yea, thou hast been deceitful.)

³ Thou lovedest malice more than benignity; and wickedness more than to speak equity. (Thou lovedest evil more than good; and lying more than telling the truth.)

⁴ Thou lovedest all words of casting down; with a guileful tongue. (Thou with a deceitful, or a lying, tongue.)

⁵ Therefore God shall destroy thee into the end, he shall draw thee out by the root, and he shall make thee to pass away from thy tabernacle; and thy root from the land of living men. (And so God shall destroy thee, or ruin thee, forever, yea, he shall draw thee out, and he shall make thee go far away from thy home; he shall root thee out from the land of the living.)

⁶ Just men shall see, and shall dread; and they shall laugh on him, (The righteous shall see it, and shall have fear; and then they shall laugh at him,)

¹ To the Overseer. — An instruction, by David, in the coming in of Doeg the Edomite, and he declareth to Saul, and saith to him, 'David came in unto the house of Ahimelech.' What, boasteth thou in evil, O mighty one? The kindness of God is all the day.

² Mischiefs doth thy tongue devise, Like a sharp razor, working deceit.

³ Thou hast loved evil rather than good, Lying, than speaking righteousness. Selah.

⁴ Thou hast loved all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

⁵ Also — God doth break thee down for ever, Taketh thee, and pulleth thee out of the tent, And He hath uprooted thee Out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁶ And the righteous see, And fear, and laugh at him.
