¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David; when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

² Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.

³ For I know my transgressions; And my sin is ever before me.

⁴ Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done that which is evil in thy sight; That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.

³ Why dost thou, O mighty man, boast of iniquity in thy mischief? All the day

⁴ thy tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor thou hast wrought deceit.

⁴ You, you only, are the one that I have really sinned against, and you have seen the evil things that I have done. When you say that I am guilty, you are right/correct, and when you judge me, you justly say that I deserve to be punished.

³ Why dost thou glory in malice, thou that art mighty in iniquity?

⁴ All the day long thy tongue hath devised injustice: as a sharp razor, thou hast wrought deceit.

² Wash away all my guilt; cleanse me from my sin.

³ I admit my rebellion; my sin always stares me in my face.

⁴ I have sinned against you, you alone. I have done evil in your sight. So you are right in what you say, and fair when you judge.

⁴ Against thee, against thee onely haue I sinned, and done euill in thy sight, that thou mayest be iust when thou speakest, and pure when thou iudgest.
