¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David; when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

² Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.

³ For I know my transgressions; And my sin is ever before me.

⁴ Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done that which is evil in thy sight; That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.

⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.

⁶ Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts; And in the hidden part thou wilt make me to know wisdom.

⁷ Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

⁸ Make me to hear joy and gladness, That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

⁹ Hide thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities.

¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.

¹¹ Cast me not away from thy presence; And take not thy holy Spirit from me.

¹² Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with a willing spirit.

¹³ Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; And sinners shall be converted unto thee.

¹⁴ Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation; And my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

³ Why dost thou, O mighty man, boast of iniquity in thy mischief? All the day

⁴ thy tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor thou hast wrought deceit.

⁵ Thou hast loved wickedness more than goodness; unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. Pause.

⁶ Thou hast loved all words of destruction, and a deceitful tongue.

⁷ Therefore may God destroy thee for ever, may he pluck thee up and utterly remove thee from thy dwelling, and thy root from the land of the living. Pause.

⁸ And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say,

⁹ Behold the man who made not God his help; but trusted in the abundance of his wealth, and strengthened himself in his vanity.

¹⁰ But I am as a fruitful olive in the house of God: I have trusted in the mercy of God for ever, even for evermore.

¹¹ I will give thanks to thee for ever, for thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

¹ O God, be merciful to me, because you love me faithfully; because you are very merciful, erase the record of the ways that I disobeyed you!

² Make me pure from the wrong things that I have done; make me clean from the guilt of my sin.

³ I say that because I know the ways that I have disobeyed you; I cannot forget them.

⁴ You, you only, are the one that I have really sinned against, and you have seen the evil things that I have done. When you say that I am guilty, you are right/correct, and when you judge me, you justly say that I deserve to be punished.

⁵ I have been a sinner since the day that I was born; truly, I have been like that since my mother conceived me.

⁶ What you desire is that I desire what is true in order that you can teach me how to act wisely.

⁷ Purify me from the guilt of my sins, and after that happens, I will be clean in my inner being; cleanse me, and then in my inner being I will be ◄whiter than snow/very clean►.

⁸ Allow/Cause me to be joyful DOU again; you have ◄crushed my spirit/completely discouraged me► MTY; but now let me rejoice again.

⁹ Do not continue to look at the sins IDM that I have committed; erase the record of the evil things that I have done.

¹⁰ O God, cause my inner being to be pure. Put new thoughts within me and make me faithful again.

¹¹ Do not send me away from you because of my sin, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.

¹² Cause/Allow me to be happy again because of knowing that you have freed me from the guilt of my sin, and make me willing to obey you.

¹³ If you do that, I will be able to teach other sinners what you want them to do, and they will repent and begin to obey you.

¹⁴ O God, you are the one who saves me; forgive me for being guilty of causing someone who was not my enemy to die. When you do that, I will sing joyfully about your being very good and righteous.

² Let all my wrongdoing be washed away, and make me clean from evil.

³ For I am conscious of my error; my sin is ever before me.

⁴ Against you, you only, have I done wrong, working that which is evil in your eyes; so that your words may be seen to be right, and you may be clear when you are judging.

⁵ Truly, I was formed in evil, and in sin did my mother give me birth.

⁶ Your desire is for what is true in the inner parts: in the secrets of my soul you will give me knowledge of wisdom.

⁷ Make me free from sin with hyssop: let me be washed whiter than snow.

⁸ Make me full of joy and rapture; so that the bones which have been broken may be glad.

⁹ Let your face be turned from my wrongdoing, and take away all my sins.

¹⁰ Make a clean heart in me, O God; give me a right spirit again.

¹¹ Do not put me away from before you, or take your holy spirit from me.

¹² Give me back the joy of your salvation; let a free spirit be my support.

¹³ Then will I make your ways clear to wrongdoers; and sinners will be turned to you.

¹⁴ Be my saviour from violent death, O God, the God of my salvation; and my tongue will give praise to your righteousness.

³ Why dost thou glory in malice, thou that art mighty in iniquity?

⁴ All the day long thy tongue hath devised injustice: as a sharp razor, thou hast wrought deceit.

⁵ Thou hast loved malice more than goodness: and iniquity rather than to speak righteousness.

⁶ Thou hast loved all the words of ruin, O deceitful tongue.

⁷ Therefore will God destroy thee for ever: he will pluck thee out, and remove thee from thy dwelling place: and thy root out of the land of the living.

⁸ The just shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say:

⁹ Behold the man that made not God his helper: But trusted in the abundance of his riches: and prevailed in his vanity.

¹⁰ But I, as a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God for ever, yea for ever and ever.

¹¹ I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name, for it is good in the sight of thy saints.

¹ For the music director. A psalm of David. When Nathan the prophet came to him after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba. God, please be gracious to me, because of your trustworthy love, because of your infinite kindness please wipe away my sins.

² Wash away all my guilt; cleanse me from my sin.

³ I admit my rebellion; my sin always stares me in my face.

⁴ I have sinned against you, you alone. I have done evil in your sight. So you are right in what you say, and fair when you judge.

⁵ It's true that I was born guilty—sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

⁶ But you want truth on the inside; you teach me wisdom deep within.

⁷ Purify me with hyssop so I can be clean; wash me so I can be whiter than snow.

⁸ Please let me hear joy and happiness again; let the bones you have crushed be glad once more.

⁹ Turn your face away from looking at my sins; please wipe away my guilt.

¹⁰ Create a pure mind in me, God, and make me trustworthy again.

¹¹ Don't expel me from your presence; don't take away your Holy Spirit from me.

¹² Give me back the happiness of your salvation; help me to have a willing nature.

¹³ Then I will teach your ways to rebellious people, and these sinners will come back to you.

¹⁴ God, please forgive me for the blood I have shed, God of my salvation, and I will sing for joy of your goodness.

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme of David, when the Prophet Nathan came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercie vpon me, O God, according to thy louing kindnes: according to the multitude of thy compassions put away mine iniquities.

³ For I know mine iniquities, and my sinne is euer before me.

⁴ Against thee, against thee onely haue I sinned, and done euill in thy sight, that thou mayest be iust when thou speakest, and pure when thou iudgest.

⁶ Beholde, thou louest trueth in the inwarde affections: therefore hast thou taught mee wisedome in the secret of mine heart.

² (51:4) Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

³ (51:5) For of my transgressions I have full knowledge; and my sin is before me continually.

⁴ (51:6) To thee, thee only, have I sinned, and what is evil in thy eyes have I done:—in order that thou mightest be righteous when thou speakest, be justified when thou judgest.

⁵ (51:7) Behold, in iniquity was I brought forth; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

⁶ (51:8) Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: therefore do thou cause me to know wisdom in the recesses of the heart.

⁷ (51:9) Cleanse me from sin with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

⁸ (51:10) Cause me to hear gladness and joy; that the bones which thou hast crushed may rejoice.

⁹ (51:11) Hide thy face from my sins, and all my iniquities do thou blot out.

¹⁰ (51:12) Create unto me a clean heart, O God; and a firm spirit renew thou within me.

¹¹ (51:13) Cast me not away from thy presence; and thy holy spirit do not take from me.

¹² (51:14) Restore unto me the gladness of thy salvation; and with a liberal spirit do thou support me.—

¹³ (51:15) I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners shall return unto thee.

⁵ Thou hast loved wickedness more than goodness; Unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. Pause.

⁶ Thou hast loved all words of destruction, And a deceitful tongue.

⁷ Therefore may God destroy thee forever, May he pluck thee up and utterly remove thee from thy dwelling, And thy root from the land of the living. Pause.

⁹ Behold the man who made not God his help; But trusted in the abundance of his wealth, And strengthened himself in his vanity.

¹⁰ But I am as a fruitful olive in the house of God: I have trusted in the mercy of God Forever, even for evermore.

¹¹ I will give thanks to thee forever, for thou hast done it: And I will wait on thy name; For it is good before thy saints.
