³ My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

⁴ I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

⁵ Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?

⁶ They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

⁷ None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him

⁸ (For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever),

⁹ That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.

¹⁰ For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.

¹¹ Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.

¹² But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.

¹³ This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah

¹⁴ They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd: And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it.

¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah

¹⁶ Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased:

¹⁷ For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.

¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself),

¹⁹ He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.

¹⁰ For all the wild beasts of the thicket are mine, the cattle on the mountains, and oxen.

¹¹ I know all the birds of the sky; and the beauty of the field is mine.

¹² If I should be hungry, I will not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness of it.

¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

¹⁴ Offer to God the sacrifice of praise; and pay thy vows to the Most High.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of affliction; and I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. Pause.

¹⁶ But to the sinner God has said, Why dost thou declare my ordinances, and take up my covenant in thy mouth?

¹⁷ Whereas thou hast hated instruction, and hast cast my words behind thee.

¹⁸ If thou sawest a thief, thou rannest along with him, and hast cast in thy lot with adulterers.

¹⁹ Thy mouth has multiplied wickedness, and thy tongue has framed deceit.

³ because what I am thinking is very sensible, and what I say will enable you to become wise!

⁴ I think about MTY ◄proverbs/wise sayings►, and while I play my harp, I explain what they mean.

⁵ I am not RHQ afraid when I am in trouble/danger, when I am surrounded by my enemies,

⁶ by evil men who trust that things will always go well for them because they are wealthy, and who boast about being very rich.

⁷ They may be rich, but no one can pay money with the result that he would live forever! No one can pay God enough so that God will allow him to continue to live,

⁸ because that cost is too grreat, and he will never be able to pay enough

⁹ with the result that he will live forever and never die and be buried!

¹⁰ We see that foolish and stupid people die, but we see that wise people also die; they all leave their wealth, and others inherit it.

¹¹ Those wise people once had houses on land that they owned, but now their graves are their homes forever, the place where they will stay for all time!

¹² Even if people are great, that cannot prevent them from dying; all people die, the same as animals do.

¹³ That is what happens to those who foolishly trust in what they have accomplished, to those who are delighted in all that they possess.

¹⁴ They are certain to die just like sheep, when a shepherd leads them away to be slaughtered. PRS, MET In the morning righteous people will rule over them, and then those wealthy people will die and their bodies will quickly decay in their graves; they will be where dead people are, far from their homes.

¹⁵ But it is certain that God will rescue me so that I am not kept in the place of the dead.

¹⁶ So, do not be dismayed when someone becomes rich and the houses where they live become more and more luxurious,

¹⁷ because when he dies, he will take nothing with him; his wealth will not go with him.

¹⁸ While a rich person is alive, he congratulates himself, and people praise him for being successful,

¹⁹ but he will die, joining his ancestors, who will never see daylight again.

⁵ What cause have I for fear in the days of evil, when the evil-doing of those who are working for my downfall is round about me?

⁶ Even of those whose faith is in their wealth, and whose hearts are lifted up because of their stores.

⁷ Truly, no man may get back his soul for a price, or give to God the payment for himself;

⁸ (Because it takes a great price to keep his soul from death, and man is not able to give it.)

⁹ So that he might have eternal life, and never see the underworld.

¹⁰ For he sees that wise men come to their end, and foolish persons of low behaviour come to destruction together, letting their wealth go to others.

¹¹ The place of the dead is their house for ever, and their resting-place through all generations; those who come after them give their names to their lands.

¹² But man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts.

¹³ This is the way of the foolish; their silver is for those who come after them, and their children get the pleasure of their gold. (Selah.)

¹⁴ Death will give them their food like sheep; the underworld is their fate and they will go down into it; their flesh is food for worms; their form is wasted away; the underworld is their resting-place for ever.

¹⁵ But God will get back my soul; for he will take me from the power of death. (Selah.)

¹⁶ Have no fear when wealth comes to a man, and the glory of his house is increased;

¹⁷ For at his death, he will take nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.

¹⁸ Though he might have pride in his soul in his life-time, and men will give you praise if you do well for yourself,

¹⁹ He will go to the generation of his fathers; he will not see the light again.

⁷ but no one can pay to rescue another from death; no one can pay a ransom to God.

⁸ Redemption is beyond price; no one could ever pay enough

⁹ that they could live forever and not face the grave.

¹⁰ Everyone knows that the wise die, those who are foolish and stupid too, leaving what they have to the next generation.

¹¹ They think their homes will last forever, that where they live will continue for all generations.

¹² But human beings, for all their fame, don't understand. They die, just like the animals.

¹³ This is the way of foolish people, yet those who come after them think they were clever! Selah.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are destined for the grave. Death will be their shepherd. Those who live right will rule over them in the morning. Their bodies will decay in the grave, far from their homes.

¹⁵ But surely God will rescue me from the power of the grave; he will grab me back. Selah.

¹⁶ Don't be disturbed when people become rich, filling their houses with possessions.

¹⁷ For they won't take anything with them when they die; their wealth will not go down into the grave with them.

¹⁸ They congratulate themselves for all they possess—people always praise you when you do well—

¹⁹ but their destiny is the same as their forefathers: they will never again see the light of day.

⁵ Wherefore should I feare in the euil dayes, when iniquitie shall compasse me about, as at mine heeles?

⁶ They trust in their goods, and boast them selues in the multitude of their riches.

⁷ Yet a man can by no meanes redeeme his brother: he can not giue his raunsome to God,

⁸ (So precious is the redemption of their soules, and the continuance for euer)

⁹ That he may liue still for euer, and not see the graue.

¹⁰ For he seeth that wise men die, and also that the ignorant and foolish perish, and leaue their riches for others.

¹¹ Yet they thinke, their houses, and their habitations shall continue for euer, euen from generation to generation, and call their lands by their names.

¹² But man shall not continue in honour: he is like the beastes that die.

¹³ This their way vttereth their foolishnes: yet their posteritie delite in their talke. Selah.

¹⁴ Like sheepe they lie in graue: death deuoureth them, and the righteous shall haue domination ouer them in the morning: for their beautie shall consume, when they shall goe from their house to graue.

¹⁵ But God shall deliuer my soule from the power of the graue: for he will receiue me. Selah.

¹⁶ Be not thou afrayd when one is made rich, and when the glory of his house is increased.

¹⁷ For he shall take nothing away when he dieth, neither shall his pompe descende after him.

¹⁸ For while he liued, he reioyced himselfe: and men will prayse thee, when thou makest much of thy selfe.

¹⁹ He shall enter into the generation of his fathers, and they shall not liue for euer.

⁷ A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement.

⁸ And precious is the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased — to the age.

⁹ And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit.

¹⁰ For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth.

¹¹ Their heart is: Their houses are to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands.

¹² And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off.

¹³ This their way is folly for them, And their posterity with their sayings are pleased. Selah.

¹⁴ As sheep for Sheol they have set themselves, Death doth afflict them, And the upright rule over them in the morning, And their form is for consumption. Sheol is a dwelling for him.

¹⁵ Only, God doth ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol, For He doth receive me. Selah.

¹⁶ Fear not, when one maketh wealth, When the honour of his house is abundant,

¹⁷ For at his death he receiveth nothing, His honour goeth not down after him.

¹⁸ For his soul in his life he blesseth, (And they praise thee when thou dost well for thyself.)

¹⁹ It cometh to the generation of his fathers, For ever they see not the light.
