³ My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

⁴ I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

⁵ Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?

⁶ They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

⁷ None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him

⁸ (For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever),

⁹ That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.

¹⁰ For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.

¹¹ Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.

¹² But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.

³ God, our God, shall come manifestly, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall be kindled before him, and round about him there shall be a very great tempest.

⁵ Assemble ye his saints to him, those that have engaged in a covenant with him upon sacrifices.

⁴ I think about MTY ◄proverbs/wise sayings►, and while I play my harp, I explain what they mean.

⁵ I am not RHQ afraid when I am in trouble/danger, when I am surrounded by my enemies,

⁶ by evil men who trust that things will always go well for them because they are wealthy, and who boast about being very rich.

⁷ They may be rich, but no one can pay money with the result that he would live forever! No one can pay God enough so that God will allow him to continue to live,

⁸ because that cost is too grreat, and he will never be able to pay enough

⁹ with the result that he will live forever and never die and be buried!

¹⁰ We see that foolish and stupid people die, but we see that wise people also die; they all leave their wealth, and others inherit it.

¹¹ Those wise people once had houses on land that they owned, but now their graves are their homes forever, the place where they will stay for all time!

¹² Even if people are great, that cannot prevent them from dying; all people die, the same as animals do.

⁷ Truly, no man may get back his soul for a price, or give to God the payment for himself;

⁸ (Because it takes a great price to keep his soul from death, and man is not able to give it.)

⁹ So that he might have eternal life, and never see the underworld.

¹⁰ For he sees that wise men come to their end, and foolish persons of low behaviour come to destruction together, letting their wealth go to others.

¹¹ The place of the dead is their house for ever, and their resting-place through all generations; those who come after them give their names to their lands.

¹² But man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts.

³ For what I say is wise, and my thinking is perceptive.

⁴ I pay attention to wise sayings; I answer hard questions to a tune on the harp.

⁵ Why should I be afraid when trouble comes, when evil enemies surround me?

⁶ They trust in their wealth; they boast about their riches,

⁷ but no one can pay to rescue another from death; no one can pay a ransom to God.

⁸ Redemption is beyond price; no one could ever pay enough

⁹ that they could live forever and not face the grave.

¹⁰ Everyone knows that the wise die, those who are foolish and stupid too, leaving what they have to the next generation.

¹¹ They think their homes will last forever, that where they live will continue for all generations.

¹² But human beings, for all their fame, don't understand. They die, just like the animals.

³ My mouth shall speake of wisdome, and the meditation of mine heart is of knowledge.

⁶ Which trust in their own virtue; and have glory in the multitude of their riches.

⁷ A brother again-buyeth not, shall a man again-buy? and he shall not give to God his pleasing.

⁸ And he shall not be able to give the price of ransom for his soul; and he shall travail into without end,

⁹ and he shall live yet into the end. He shall not see perishing,

¹⁰ when he shall see wise men dying; the unwise man and the fool shall perish together. And they shall leave their riches to aliens;

¹¹ and the sepulchres of them be the houses of them without end. The tabernacles of them be in generation and in generation; they called their names in their lands.

¹² A man/Man, when he was in honour, understood not; he is compar-isoned to unwise beasts, and is made like to those or them.

³ My mouth shall speak wisdom; and the thinking of mine heart shall speak prudence.

⁴ I shall bow down mine ear into a parable; I shall open my reason set forth in a psaltery. (I shall listen closely to a parable; then I shall set forth my understanding on a lute.)

⁵ Why shall I dread in the evil day? the wickedness of mine heel shall (en)compass me. (Why should I have fear, or be afraid, on the day of evil, when the wickedness of my enemies shall surround me?)

⁶ Which trust in their own virtue (or They who trust in their wealth); and have glory in the multitude of their riches.

⁷ A brother again-buyeth not, shall a man again-buy? and he shall not give to God his pleasing. (No one shall ever be able to redeem himself; he shall never be able to pay God the price that he asketh for him.)

⁸ And he shall not (be able to) give the price of ransom for his soul; and he shall travail into without end, (Yea, he shall never be able to pay the price of ransom for his own soul; even if he could work forever,)

⁹ and he shall live yet into the end. He shall not see perishing, (so that he would live forever, and not see perishing, or corruption.)

¹⁰ when he shall see wise men dying; the unwise man and the fool shall perish together. And they shall leave their riches to aliens; (For he seeth that the wise die; and that the foolish and the ignorant perish together with them. But they all leave their riches to others, even strangers;)

¹¹ and the sepulchres of them be the houses of them without end. The tabernacles of them be in generation and in generation; they called their names in their lands. (and their tombs, or their graves, shall be their houses forever. Yea, their dwelling places for all generations; even though their lands were once called by their own names.)

¹² A man/Man, when he was in honour, understood not; he is comparisoned to unwise beasts, and is made like to those. (For anyone, even when he hath been given great honour, liveth not forever; he is comparable to the unthinking beasts, and soon is made like them.)

³ My mouth speaketh wise things, And the meditations of my heart are things of understanding.

⁴ I incline to a simile mine ear, I open with a harp my riddle:

⁵ Why do I fear in days of evil? The iniquity of my supplanters doth compass me.

⁶ Those trusting on their wealth, And in the multitude of their riches, Do shew themselves foolish.

⁷ A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement.

⁸ And precious is the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased — to the age.

⁹ And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit.

¹⁰ For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth.

¹¹ Their heart is: Their houses are to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands.

¹² And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off.
