Psalms 42:3-5 in English

³ My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

⁴ These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, How I went with the throng, and led them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.

⁵ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him For the help of his countenance.

³ Send forth thy light and thy truth: they have led me, and brought me to thy holy mountain, and to thy tabernacles.

⁴ And I will go in to the altar of God, to God who gladdens my youth: I will give thanks to thee on the harp, O God, my God.

⁵ Wherefore art thou very sad, O my soul? and wherefore dost thou trouble me? Hope in God; for I will give thanks to him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

³ My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

⁴ I am very distressed IDM as I remember when I went with the crowd of people to the temple in Jerusalem, leading them as we walked along; we were all shouting joyfully and singing to thank God for what he had done; we were a large group who were celebrating.

⁵ So I say to myself, “◄Why am I sad and discouraged?/I should not be sad and discouraged!► RHQ I confidently expect God to help me, and again I will praise him, my God, the one who saves me.”

³ My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God?

⁴ These things I remember and have poured out my soul within me: how I passed along with the multitude, how I went on with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a festive multitude.

⁵ Why art thou cast down, my soul, and art disquieted in me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, for the health of his countenance.

³ Send forth thy light and thy truth: they have conducted me, and brought me unto thy holy hill, and into thy tabernacles.

⁴ And I will go in to the altar of God: to God who giveth joy to my youth.

⁵ To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp: why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me?

³ My tears have been my only food, day and night, while people ask me all day long, “Where is your God?”

⁴ I am crushed as I remember how I walked with the crowds, leading them in a procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and songs of thanks among the worshipers at the festival.

⁵ Why am I so discouraged? Why do I feel so sad? I will hope in God; I will praise him because he is the one who saves me—

³ My teares haue bin my meate day and night, while they dayly say vnto me, Where is thy God?

⁴ When I remembred these things, I powred out my very heart, because I had gone with the multitude, and ledde them into the House of God with the voyce of singing, and prayse, as a multitude that keepeth a feast.

⁵ Why art thou cast downe, my soule, and vnquiet within me? waite on God: for I will yet giue him thankes for the helpe of his presence.

⁴ (42-5) These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, how I passed on with the throng, and led them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.

⁵ (42-6) Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why moanest thou within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise Him for the salvation of His countenance.

⁴ (42:5) These things will I remember, and pour out my soul in me: how I was wont to pass along amidst the multitude, journeying with them as a pilgrim to the house of God, with the voice of joyful song and thanksgiving, among the festive throng.

⁵ (42:6) Why art thou cast down, O my soul, and disquieted in me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet thank him, because of the salvation of his countenance.

³ My tears have been my food by day and by night; for they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”

⁴ My heart floods with sorrow, as I call to mind: how I used to pass on with the throng, at their head, to the house of God, with glad shouts and giving of thanks, in the throng who kept festival.

⁵ Why am I downcast? Why this moaning within me? Hope in God; for yet will I praise him, my help, my God.

³ My tears have been my food by day and by night; for they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”

⁴ My heart floods with sorrow, as I call to mind: how I used to pass on with the throng, at their head, to the house of God, with glad shouts and giving of thanks, in the throng who kept festival.

⁴ These things I call to mind as I pour out my soul: how I went with the throng and led them to the house of God with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude celebrating a festival.

⁵ Why are you bowed down, my soul? Why are you upset within me? Hope in God, for again I will praise him who is my salvation.

³ My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually ask me, “Where is your God?”

⁴ These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, how I used to go with the crowd, and led them to God’s house, with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day.

⁵ My soul, why art thou sorry; and why troublest thou me? Hope thou in God, for yet I shall acknowledge to him; he is the health of my cheer, and my God.

³ My tears were loaves to me day and night; while it is said to me each day, Where is thy God? (My tears were my only food day and night; while my enemies said to me every day or over and over, Where is thy God?)

⁴ I bethought of these things, and I poured out in me my soul; for I shall pass into the place of the wonderful tabernacle, till to the house of God. In the voice of full out joying, and acknowledging; is the sound of the eater. (I remembered these things, as I poured out my soul; for I had gone with the people, yea, I had gone with them to the House of God. With words of rejoicing, and praising; yea, the sound of the people going in pilgrimage.)

⁵ My soul, why art thou sorry; and why troublest thou me? Hope thou in God, for yet I shall acknowledge to him; he is the health of my cheer, and my God. (My soul, why art thou feeling so sad? and why troublest thou me? Hope thou in God, for yet I shall praise him; he is my true help, and my God.)

³ My tear hath been to me bread day and night, In their saying unto me all the day, 'Where is thy God?'

⁴ These I remember, and pour out my soul in me, For I pass over into the booth, I go softly with them unto the house of God, With the voice of singing and confession, The multitude keeping feast!

⁵ What! bowest thou thyself, O my soul? Yea, art thou troubled within me? Wait for God, for still I confess Him: The salvation of my countenance — My God!
