Psalms 38:2-13 in American Standard Version (1901)

2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, And thy hand presseth me sore.
3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
4 For mine iniquities are gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, Because of my foolishness.
6 I am pained and bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
7 For my loins are filled with burning; And there is no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am faint and sore bruised: I have groaned by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; And my groaning is not hid from thee.
10 My heart throbbeth, my strength faileth me: As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague; And my kinsmen stand afar off.
12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me; And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all the day long.
13 But I, as a deaf man, hear not; And I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Brenton Septuagint Translation

2 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I set a guard on my mouth, while the sinner stood in my presence.
3 I was dumb, and humbled myself, and kept silence from good words; and my grief was renewed.
4 My heart grew hot within me, and a fire would kindle in my meditation: I spoke with my tongue,
5 O Lord, make me to know mine end, and the number of my days, what it is; that I may know what I lack.
6 Behold, thou hast made my days old; and my existence is as nothing before thee: nay, every man living is altogether vanity. Pause.
7 Surely man walks in a shadow; nay, he is disquieted in vain: he lays up treasures, and knows not for whom he shall gather them.
8 And now what is my expectation? is it not the Lord? and my ground of hope is with thee. Pause.
9 Deliver me from all my transgressions: thou hast made me a reproach to the foolish.
10 I was dumb, and opened not my mouth; for thou art he that made me.
11 Remove thy scourges from me: I have fainted by reason of the strength of thine hand.
12 Thou chastenest man with rebukes for iniquity, and thou makest his life to consume away like a spider's web: nay, every man is disquieted in vain. Pause.
13 O Lord, hearken to my prayer and my supplication: attend to my tears: be not silent, for I am a sojourner in the land, and a stranger, as all my fathers were.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Translation for Translators

2 Now it is as though you have shot your arrows at me and wounded me; you have struck me and knocked me down.
3 Because you have been angry with me, I am suffering great pain. Because of my sin, my whole body is diseased.
4 All my sins are like a flood that covers my head; they are like a load that is very heavy, with the result that I cannot carry it.
5 Because I have done foolish things, I have sores that have become worse, and they stink.
6 Sometimes I am bent over, and sometimes I lie prostrate; I am sad/cry all day.
7 My body is burning with fever, and I am very ill.
8 I am completely exhausted, and I have no strength. I am very distressed, and I groan with pain.
9 Yahweh, you know that I desire to be healed; you hear me while I am groaning.
10 My heat is pounding heavily, and all my strength is gone. I am no longer able to see well.
11 My friends and neighbors stay away from me because of my sores; even my own family stays away from me.
12 And those who want to kill me set traps to catch me; those who want to harm me discuss ways to get rid of me; they plot against me all day.
13 Now I act like I'm deaf, and do not listen to what they say. I act like I cannot talk, so I say nothing to reply to them.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Bible in Basic English

2 For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand.
3 My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin.
4 For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength.
5 My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour.
6 I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day.
7 For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy.
8 I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you.
10 My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me.
11 My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away.
12 Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit.
13 But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth.

4 For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness.
6 I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day.
7 For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee.
10 My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me.
11 My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
12 And they that seek after my life lay snares for me; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Douay-Rheims 1899

2 I said: I will take heed to my ways: that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me.
3 I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things: and my sorrow was renewed.
4 My heart grew hot within me: and in my meditation a fire shall flame out.
5 I spoke with my tongue: O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days: that I may know what is wanting to me.
6 Behold thou hast made my days measurable: and my substance is as nothing before thee. And indeed all things are vanity: every man living.
7 Surely man passeth as an image: yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He storeth up: and he knoweth not for whom he shall gather these things.
8 And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with thee.
9 Deliver thou me from all my iniquities: thou hast made me a reproach to the fool.
10 I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it.
11 Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes:
12 Thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider: surely in vain is any man disquieted.
13 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication: give ear to my tears. Be not silent: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Free Bible Version

2 Your arrows have pierced me deeply, your hand has come down hard on me.
3 Because you're so upset with me, not a single part of my body is healthy; I am completely sick because of my sins.
4 I'm drowning in guilt—the burden is too heavy to bear.
5 My wounds are infected—they're smelling—all because of my stupidity.
6 I am bent over, doubled up in pain. The whole day I walk around crying my eyes out.
7 Inside I'm burning up with fever; no part of my body is healthy.
8 I'm worn out, totally down. I groan because of the anguish I feel in my heart.
9 Lord, you know what I desperately want, you hear every sigh I make.
10 My heart is racing, leaving me with no strength; my eyesight is failing.
11 My loved ones and my friends don't come near me because they're afraid of what I've got. Even my family keeps me at a distance.
12 Those who are trying to kill me set traps for me; those who want to hurt me make threats against me, working on their deceitful schemes all day long.
13 I act as if I'm deaf to what they're saying, and pretend to be dumb so I don't have to speak.

9 Lord, you know all that I long for, my groans are not hidden from you.
10 My heart is throbbing, my strength has failed me. The light of my eyes— even it is gone from me.
11 My dear ones and friends keep aloof, and my neighbors stand afar off.
12 They who aim at my life lay their snares, they who seek my hurt speak of ruin, nursing treachery all the day long.
13 But I turn a deaf ear and hear not; like the dumb I open not my mouth.

2 For your arrows have pierced me, your hand presses hard on me.
3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
4 For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, because of my foolishness.
6 I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all day long.
7 For my waist is filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you.
10 My heart throbs. My strength fails me. As for the light of my eyes, it has also left me.
11 My 'ahav ·affectionate lovers· and my friends stand aloof from my plague. My kinsmen stand far away.
12 They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all day long.

2 For thy arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand falleth heavy upon me.
3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thy anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
4 For my iniquities have gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds are offensive, and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
7 For my loins are filled with a lothsome disease : and there is no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am feeble and grievously broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
9 LORD, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

2 For thine arrows be fixed in me; and thou hast made steadfast thine hand on me.
3 None health is in my flesh from the face of thine ire; no peace is to my bones from the face of my sins.
4 For my wickednesses be gone over mine head; as an heavy burden, those or they be made heavy on me.
5 Mine healed wounds were rotten, and be broken; from the face of mine unwisdom.
6 I am made a wretch, and I am bowed down till into the end; all day I entered sorrowful.
7 For my loins be filled with scorn-ings; and health is not in my flesh.
8 I am tormented, and made low full greatly; I roared for the wailing of mine heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my wailing is not hid from thee.
10 Mine heart is troubled in me, my virtue forsook me; and the light of mine eyes, and it is not with me.
11 My friends and my neighbours nighed; and stood against me. And they that were beside me stood afar;
12 and they did violence, that sought my life. And they that sought evils to me, spake vanities; and thought guiles or treacheries all day.
13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and as a dumb man not opening his mouth.

Psalms 38:2-13 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

2 For thine arrows be fixed in me; and thou hast made steadfast thine hand on me.
3 None health is in my flesh from the face of thine ire; no peace is to my bones from the face of my sins. (There is no health in my flesh, because of thy anger; there is no peace for my bones, because of my sins.)
4 For my wickednesses be gone over mine head; as an heavy burden, those be made heavy on me, (or like a heavy weight, they be made heavy upon me).
5 Mine healed wounds were rotten, and be broken; from the face of mine unwisdom. (My wounds became rotten, and broken; because of my folly, or my foolishness.)
6 I am made a wretch, and I am bowed down till into the end; all day I entered sorrowful. (I am made a wretch, and I am bent down to the ground; I go about in sorrow all day long.)
7 For my loins be filled with scornings; and health is not in my flesh. (For my loins be filled with sickness; and there is no health in my flesh.)
8 I am tormented, and made low full greatly, (or I am tormented, and brought down so very low); I roared for the wailing of mine heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my wailing is not hid from thee.
10 Mine heart is troubled in me, my virtue forsook me; and the light of mine eyes, and it is not with me. (My heart is troubled within me, my strength deserted me; and the light in my eyes, it hath also left me.)
11 My friends and my neighbours nighed; and stood (over) against me. And they that were beside me stood afar; (My friends and my neighbours stand far away from me; because of my sickness, or my sores. And even my family members stand far away from me;)
12 and they did violence, that sought my life. And they that sought evils to me, spake vanities; and thought guiles all day. (and they who sought my life, did violence to me. Yea, they who sought evil for me, spoke empty gossip; and they thought up lies and slander about me, all day long.)
13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and as a dumb man not opening his mouth. (But I, like a deaf man, did not listen to them; and like a dumb man, I did not open my mouth.)

Psalms 38:2-13 in Young's Literal Translation

2 For Thine arrows have come down on me, And Thou lettest down upon me Thy hand.
3 Soundness is not in my flesh, Because of Thine indignation, Peace is not in my bones because of my sin.
4 For mine iniquities have passed over my head, As a heavy burden — too heavy for me.
5 Stunk — become corrupt have my wounds, Because of my folly.
6 I have been bent down, I have been bowed down — unto excess, All the day I have gone mourning.
7 For my flanks have been full of drought, And soundness is not in my flesh.
8 I have been feeble and smitten — unto excess, I have roared from disquietude of heart.
9 Lord, before Thee is all my desire, And my sighing from Thee hath not been hid.
10 My heart is panting, my power hath forsaken me, And the light of mine eyes, Even they are not with me.
11 My lovers and my friends over-against my plague stand. And my neighbours afar off have stood.
12 And those seeking my soul lay a snare, And those seeking my evil Have spoken mischievous things, And they do deceits meditate all the day.
13 And I, as deaf, hear not. And as a dumb one who openeth not his mouth.
