¹⁰ My heart throbbeth, my strength faileth me: As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague; And my kinsmen stand afar off.

¹² They also that seek after my life lay snares for me; And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all the day long.

¹³ But I, as a deaf man, hear not; And I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

¹⁴ Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, And in whose mouth are no reproofs.

¹⁵ For in thee, O Jehovah, do I hope: Thou wilt answer, O Lord my God.

¹⁶ For I said, Lest they rejoice over me: When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

¹⁷ For I am ready to fall, And my sorrow is continually before me.

¹⁸ For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

¹⁹ But mine enemies are lively, and are strong; And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

¹⁰ I was dumb, and opened not my mouth; for thou art he that made me.

¹¹ Remove thy scourges from me: I have fainted by reason of the strength of thine hand.

¹² Thou chastenest man with rebukes for iniquity, and thou makest his life to consume away like a spider's web: nay, every man is disquieted in vain. Pause.

¹³ O Lord, hearken to my prayer and my supplication: attend to my tears: be not silent, for I am a sojourner in the land, and a stranger, as all my fathers were.

¹⁴ Spare me, that I may be refreshed, before I depart, and be no more.

¹⁰ My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

¹² And those who want to kill me set traps to catch me; those who want to harm me discuss ways to get rid of me; they plot against me all day.

¹³ Now I act like I'm deaf, and do not listen to what they say. I act like I cannot talk, so I say nothing to reply to them.

¹⁴ I act like a man who does not answer when people talk to him, because he cannot hear anything.

¹⁵ But Yahweh, I trust in you. My Lord God, you will answer me.

¹⁶ I said to you, “Do not cause me to die, with the result that my enemies will rejoice! Do not cause me to stumble, with the result that they will be very happy!”

¹⁷ I say that because I am about to fall down, and I constantly have pain.

¹⁸ I confess the wrong things that I have done; I am very sorry for the sins that I have committed.

¹⁹ My enemies are healthy and strong; there are many people who hate me for no reason.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away.

¹² Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit.

¹³ But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth.

¹⁴ So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words.

¹⁵ In you, O Lord, is my hope: you will give me an answer, O Lord, my God.

¹⁶ I said, Let them not be glad over me; when my foot is moved, let them not be lifted up with pride against me.

¹⁷ My feet are near to falling, and my sorrow is ever before me.

¹⁸ I will make clear my wrongdoing, with sorrow in my heart for my sin.

¹⁹ But they are strong who have hate for me without cause: those who are against me falsely are increased in numbers.

¹⁹ But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied:

¹⁰ I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it.

¹¹ Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes:

¹² Thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider: surely in vain is any man disquieted.

¹³ Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication: give ear to my tears. Be not silent: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were.

¹⁴ O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more.

¹⁰ My heart is racing, leaving me with no strength; my eyesight is failing.

¹¹ My loved ones and my friends don't come near me because they're afraid of what I've got. Even my family keeps me at a distance.

¹² Those who are trying to kill me set traps for me; those who want to hurt me make threats against me, working on their deceitful schemes all day long.

¹³ I act as if I'm deaf to what they're saying, and pretend to be dumb so I don't have to speak.

¹⁴ Like a man who can't hear, and who doesn't reply—that's me!

¹⁵ For I'm waiting on you, Lord! You will answer for me, my Lord and my God.

¹⁶ I'm asking you, Lord, please don't let my enemies gloat over me, don't let them be glad when I trip up.

¹⁷ For I'm about ready to collapse—the pain never stops.

¹⁸ I do confess my sins; I am terribly sorry for what I've done.

¹⁹ I have many powerful enemies—they are very active, hating me for no reason.

¹⁰ Mine heart panteth: my strength faileth me, and the light of mine eyes, euen they are not mine owne.

¹¹ My louers and my friends stand aside from my plague, and my kinsmen stand a farre off.

¹² They also, that seeke after my life, laye snares, and they that go about to do me euil, talke wicked things and imagine deceite continually.

¹³ But I as a deafe man heard not, and am as a dumme man, which openeth not his mouth.

¹⁴ Thus am I as a man, that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofes.

¹⁵ For on thee, O Lord, do I waite: thou wilt heare me, my Lord, my God.

¹⁶ For I said, Heare me, least they reioyce ouer me: for when my foote slippeth, they extol themselues against me.

¹⁷ Surely I am ready to halte, and my sorow is euer before me.

¹⁸ When I declare my paine, and am sory for my sinne,

¹⁹ Then mine enemies are aliue and are mightie, and they that hate me wrongfully are many.

¹⁰ (38-11) My heart fluttereth, my strength faileth me; as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

¹¹ (38-12) My friends and my companions stand aloof from my plague; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

¹² (38-13) They also that seek after my life lay snares for me; and they that seek my hurt speak crafty devices, and utter deceits all the day.

¹³ (38-14) But I am as a deaf man, I hear not; and I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

¹⁴ (38-15) Yea, I am become as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no arguments.

¹⁵ (38-16) For in Thee, O LORD, do I hope; Thou wilt answer, O Lord my God.

¹⁶ (38-17) For I said: 'Lest they rejoice over me; when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.'

¹⁷ (38-18) For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me.

¹⁹ (38-20) But mine enemies are strong in health; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

¹² (38:13) They also that seek after my life lay snares; and they that wish for my mishap speak wicked falsehoods; and deceits do they devise all the day long.

¹³ (38:14) But I, as a deaf man, hear not; and I am as a dumb man that cannot open his mouth.

¹⁴ (38:15) Thus am I as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no words of defence.

¹⁵ (38:16) For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt answer, O Lord my God.

¹⁶ (38:17) For I said, Perhaps they might rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they might magnify themselves over me.

¹⁷ (38:18) For I am prepared for my downfall, and my pain is continually before me.

¹⁸ (38:19) For I will tell of my iniquity; I will be grieved because of my sin.

¹⁹ (38:20) But my enemies are strong in life; and numerous are those that hate me wrongfully;

¹⁰ I was dumb, and opened not my mouth; for thou art he that made me.

¹⁷ For I am ready to fall, And my pain doth never leave me;

¹⁸ For I confess my iniquity, And am troubled on account of my sin.

¹⁹ But my enemies flourish and are strong; They who hate me without cause are multiplied.

¹⁶ I say this so that my enemies will not gloat over me. If my foot slips, they will do terrible things to me.

¹⁷ For I am about to stumble, and I am in constant pain.

¹⁰ Mine heart is troubled in me, my virtue forsook me; and the light of mine eyes, and it is not with me.

¹¹ My friends and my neighbours nighed; and stood against me. And they that were beside me stood afar;

¹² and they did violence, that sought my life. And they that sought evils to me, spake vanities; and thought guiles or treacheries all day.

¹³ But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and as a dumb man not opening his mouth.

¹⁴ And I am made as a man not hearing; and not having reprovings in his mouth.

¹⁵ For, Lord, I hoped in thee; my Lord God, thou shalt hear me.

¹⁶ For I said, Hear me, Lest any time mine enemies have joy on me; and the while my feet be moved/and while my feet were moved, they spake great things on me.

¹⁷ For I am ready to beatings; and my sorrow is evermore in my sight.

¹⁸ For I shall tell my wickedness; and I shall think for my sin.

¹⁹ But mine enemies live, and they be confirmed on me; and they be multiplied, that hate me wickedly.

¹⁰ Mine heart is troubled in me, my virtue forsook me; and the light of mine eyes, and it is not with me. (My heart is troubled within me, my strength deserted me; and the light in my eyes, it hath also left me.)

¹¹ My friends and my neighbours nighed; and stood (over) against me. And they that were beside me stood afar; (My friends and my neighbours stand far away from me; because of my sickness, or my sores. And even my family members stand far away from me;)

¹² and they did violence, that sought my life. And they that sought evils to me, spake vanities; and thought guiles all day. (and they who sought my life, did violence to me. Yea, they who sought evil for me, spoke empty gossip; and they thought up lies and slander about me, all day long.)

¹³ But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and as a dumb man not opening his mouth. (But I, like a deaf man, did not listen to them; and like a dumb man, I did not open my mouth.)

¹⁴ And I am made as a man not hearing; and not having reprovings in his mouth. (And I am made like a deaf man; yea, one not speaking any rebuke, or reply.)

¹⁵ For, Lord, I hoped in thee, (or For, Lord, I trusted in thee); my Lord God, thou shalt hear me.

¹⁶ For I said, (Hear me), Lest any time mine enemies have joy on me; and the while my feet be moved/and while my feet were moved, they spake great things on me. (For I said, Hear me, lest any time my enemies have joy over me; for when my feet slipped, or stumbled, they spoke many things against me.)

¹⁷ For I am ready to beatings; and my sorrow is evermore in my sight. (For I am about to fall; and my sorrow is before me forevermore.)

¹⁸ For I shall tell my wickedness; and I shall think for my sin. (For I shall tell out my wickedness; and I am afraid, when I think of my sin.)

¹⁹ But mine enemies live, and they be confirmed on me; and they be multiplied, that hate me wickedly. (But my enemies live, and they be strong against me; yea, there be many who wickedly hate me.)

¹⁰ My heart is panting, my power hath forsaken me, And the light of mine eyes, Even they are not with me.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends over-against my plague stand. And my neighbours afar off have stood.

¹² And those seeking my soul lay a snare, And those seeking my evil Have spoken mischievous things, And they do deceits meditate all the day.

¹³ And I, as deaf, hear not. And as a dumb one who openeth not his mouth.

¹⁴ Yea, I am as a man who heareth not, And in his mouth are no reproofs.

¹⁵ Because for Thee, O Jehovah, I have waited, Thou dost answer, O Lord my God.

¹⁶ When I said, 'Lest they rejoice over me, In the slipping of my foot against me they magnified themselves.

¹⁷ For I am ready to halt, And my pain is before me continually.

¹⁸ For mine iniquity I declare, I am sorry for my sin.

¹⁹ And mine enemies are lively, They have been strong, and those hating me without cause, Have been multiplied.
