Psalms 35:1-4 in English

¹ A Psalm of David. Strive thou, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me: Fight thou against them that fight against me.

² Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help.

³ Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that pursue me: Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

⁴ Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul: Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.

¹ For the end, by David the servant of the Lord.

² The transgressor, that he may sin, says within himself, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

³ For he has dealt craftily before him, to discover his iniquity and hate it.

⁴ The words of his mouth are transgression and deceit: he is not inclined to understand how to do good.

² Be like a shield DOU to protect me and come to help me!

³ Lift up your spear DOU and throw it at those who pursue me! Promise me that you will enable me to defeat my enemies.

⁴ Cause those who are trying to kill me to be defeated and disgraced! Cause those who are planning to do evil things to me to be pushed back and become confused!

⁴ Let them be overcome and put to shame who make attempts to take my soul; let those who would do me damage be turned back and made foolish.

² The unjust hath said within himself, that he would sin: there is no fear of God before his eyes.

³ For in his sight he hath done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred.

⁴ The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile: he would not understand that he might do well.

¹ A psalm of David. Oppose my opponents, Lord; fight those who are fighting against me.

² Put your armor on, and pick up your shield. Get ready, come and help me.

³ Draw your spear and your javelin, confront those who are chasing me. Tell me, “I am your salvation!”

⁴ Shame them! Humiliate those who are trying to kill me! Turn them back! Disgrace those who are planning to hurt me!

² Lay hand vpon the shielde and buckler, and stand vp for mine helpe.

³ Bring out also the speare and stop the way against them, that persecute me: say vnto my soule, I am thy saluation.

⁴ Let them be confounded and put to shame, that seeke after my soule: let them be turned backe, and brought to confusion, that imagine mine hurt.

² Grasp shield and buckler, and rise up as my help.

³ Draw spear and battle-axe, confront those who pursue me. Assure me that you will help me.

⁴ Dishonour and shame be on those who are seeking my life! Defeat and confusion on those who are planning my hurt!

¹ Of David. Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me, do battle with those who do battle with me.

² Grasp shield and buckler, and rise up as my help.

³ Draw spear and battle-axe, confront those who pursue me. Assure me that you will help me.

⁴ Dishonor and shame be on those who are seeking my life! Defeat and confusion on those who are planning my hurt!

² Take thou armours and shield; and rise up into help to me.

³ Hold out the sword, and close altogether the way against them that pursue me; say thou to my soul, I am thine health.

⁴ They that seek my life; be shamed, and ashamed. They that think evils to me; be turned away backward, and be they shamed.

¹ To David. The psalm of David. Lord, deem thou them, that annoy me; overcome thou them, that fight against me. (A song by David. Lord, judge thou them, who harm me; overcome thou them, who fight against me.)

² Take thou armours and shield; and rise up into help to me. (Take thou up arms, or weapons, and shield; and rise up to help me.)

³ Shed out the sword/Hold out the sword, and close (al)together (the way) against them that pursue me; say thou to my soul, I am thine health. (Draw out the sword, and close up the way against those who persecute me; say thou to me, I am thy salvation, or thy deliverance.)

⁴ They that seek my life; be shamed, and ashamed. They that think evils to me; be turned away backward, and be they shamed. (Let those who seek my life; be shamed, and ashamed. Let those who plot evil against me; be turned back, and be shamed.)

³ And draw out spear and lance, To meet my pursuers. Say to my soul, 'Thy salvation I am.'

⁴ They are ashamed and blush, those seeking my soul, Turned backward and confounded, Those devising my evil.
