Psalms 35:1-26 in American Standard Version (1901)

1 A Psalm of David. Strive thou, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me: Fight thou against them that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help.
3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that pursue me: Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
4 Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul: Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind, And the angel of Jehovah driving them on.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery, And the angel of Jehovah pursuing them.
7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit; Without cause have they digged a pit for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him unawares; And let his net that he hath hid catch himself: With destruction let him fall therein.
9 And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah: It shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, Yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him?
11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I know not.
12 They reward me evil for good, To the bereaving of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I afflicted my soul with fasting; And my prayer returned into mine own bosom.
14 I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother: I bowed down mourning, as one that bewaileth his mother.
15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: The abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; They did tear me, and ceased not:
16 Like the profane mockers in feasts, They gnashed upon me with their teeth.
17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, My darling from the lions.
18 I will give thee thanks in the great assembly: I will praise thee among much people.
19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; Neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
20 For they speak not peace; But they devise deceitful words against them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me; They said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
22 Thou hast seen it, O Jehovah; keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Stir up thyself, and awake to the justice due unto me, Even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
24 Judge me, O Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness; And let them not rejoice over me.
25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it: Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
26 Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt: Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Brenton Septuagint Translation

1 For the end, by David the servant of the Lord.
2 The transgressor, that he may sin, says within himself, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
3 For he has dealt craftily before him, to discover his iniquity and hate it.
4 The words of his mouth are transgression and deceit: he is not inclined to understand how to do good.
5 He devises iniquity on his bed; he gives himself to every evil way; and does not abhor evil.
6 O Lord, thy mercy is in the heaven; and thy truth reaches to the clouds.
7 Thy righteousness is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are as a great deep: O Lord, thou wilt preserve men and beasts.
8 How hast thou multiplied thy mercy, O God! so the children of men shall trust in the shelter of thy wings.
9 They shall be fully satisfied with the fatness of thine house; and thou shalt cause them to drink of the full stream of thy delights.
10 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light we shall see light.
11 Extend thy mercy to them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
12 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of sinners move me.
13 There have all the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast out, and shall not be able to stand.

1 A Psalm of David. Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

11 False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
12 They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.
14 I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.

20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
22 This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.

26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Translation for Translators

1 Yahweh, fight against those who fight against me! Fight against my enemies when they fight me!
2 Be like a shield DOU to protect me and come to help me!
3 Lift up your spear DOU and throw it at those who pursue me! Promise me that you will enable me to defeat my enemies.
4 Cause those who are trying to kill me to be defeated and disgraced! Cause those who are planning to do evil things to me to be pushed back and become confused!
5 Send your angel to pursue them, and as a result cause them to disappear like chaff/straw blown away by the wind!
6 Cause the path on which they run to be dark and slippery as your angel pursues them!
7 Although I did not do anything wrong to them, they concealed a deep pit for me to fall into; they hid a net in which they would catch me.
8 Cause them to suddenly experience disaster! Cause them to be trapped in their own nets! Cause them to fall into the pits that they have dug for me and disappear!
9 Then I will be joyful about what you, Yahweh, have done for me, I will be glad that you have rescued me.
10 With my whole inner being SYN I will say, “There is no one like Yahweh RHQ! No one else can rescue helpless people from powerful people RHQ. No one else can rescue weak and needy people from those who want to rob them.”
11 People who tell lies stand in court and falsely accuse me of doing things that I do not know anything about.
12 In return for my doing good things for them, they do evil things to me, with the result that I feel that I am alone.
13 When they were ill, I showed that I was sad. I did not eat any food, and I bowed my head as I prayed for them.
14 I mourned and bowed my head as I prayed as though it was a friend or my mother for whom I was grieving.
15 But when I had troubles, they were all happy about it. They gathered around to make fun of me. Strangers struck me, and they would not stop.
16 Worthless people ridicule me and snarl at me.
17 Yahweh, how long will you only watch them doing this? Rescue me from their attacking me; Save me from being killed by these men who are attacking me like MET lions that are attacking other animals
18 Then, when many of your people gather, I will praise you and I will thank you in front of all of them.
19 Do not allow my enemies, who tell lies about me, defeat me and then rejoice! Do not allow those who hate me when there in no reason to hate me to ◄smirk/smile happily►!
20 They do not talk peacefully to people; instead, they seek ways to tell lies about people who are peaceful.
21 They shout at me, to accuse me, saying, “We saw the wrong things that you did!”
22 Yahweh, you have seen these things, so do not be silent! Do not stay far from me!
23 Arise, my God, and plead my case in court, and successfully defend me!
24 Yahweh, my God, because you are righteous, prove that I am innocent in order that my enemies will not be able to gloat that I was judged to be guilty.
25 Do not allow them to be able to say to themselves, “Yes, we have gotten rid of him IDM just like we desired!”
26 Cause those who rejoice about my misfortunes to be completely defeated and disgraced; cause those who boast that they are much greater than me to be disgraced and dishonored!

Psalms 35:1-26 in Bible in Basic English

1 Of David. O Lord, be on my side against those who are judging me; be at war with those who make war against me.
2 Be a breastplate to me, and give me your help.
3 Take up your spear and keep back my attackers; say to my soul, I am your salvation.
4 Let them be overcome and put to shame who make attempts to take my soul; let those who would do me damage be turned back and made foolish.
5 Let them be like dust from the grain before the wind; let the angel of the Lord send them in flight.
6 Let their way be dark and full of danger; let them be troubled by the angel of the Lord.
7 For without cause they have put a net ready for me secretly, in which to take my soul.
8 Let destruction come on them without their knowledge; let them be taken themselves in their secret nets, falling into the same destruction.
9 And my soul will have joy in the Lord; it will be glad in his salvation.
10 All my bones will say, Lord, who is like you? The saviour of the poor man from the hands of the strong, of him who is poor and in need from him who takes his goods.
11 False witnesses got up: they put questions to me about crimes of which I had no knowledge.
12 They gave me back evil for good, troubling my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were ill I put on the clothing of sorrow: I went without food and was sad, and my prayer came back again to my heart.
14 My behaviour was as if it had been my friend or my brother: I was bent low in grief like one whose mother is dead.
15 But they took pleasure in my trouble, and came together, yes, low persons came together against me without my knowledge; they never came to an end of wounding me.
16 Like men of deceit they put me to shame; the voice of their wrath was loud against me.
17 Lord, how long will you be looking on? take my soul from their destruction, my life from the lions.
18 I will give you praise in the great meeting; I will give you honour among a strong people.
19 Do not let my haters be glad over me falsely; let not those who are against me without cause make sport of me.
20 For they do not say words of peace; in their deceit they are designing evil things against the quiet ones in the land.
21 Their mouths were open wide against me, and they said, Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it.
22 You have seen this, O Lord; be not unmoved: O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Be awake, O Lord, be moved to take up my cause, my God and my Lord.
24 Be my judge, O Lord my God, in your righteousness; do not let them be glad over me.
25 Let them not say in their hearts, So we will have it: let them not say, We have put an end to him.
26 Let all those who take pleasure in my troubles be shamed and come to nothing: let those who are lifted up against me be covered with shame and have no honour.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Darby Translation

1 A Psalm of David. Strive, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me; fight against them that fight against me:
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help;
3 And draw out the spear, and stop the way against my pursuers: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
4 Let them be put to shame and confounded that seek after my life; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that devise my hurt:
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of Jehovah drive them away;
6 Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of Jehovah pursue them.
7 For without cause have they hidden for me their net in a pit; without cause they have digged it for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him unawares, and let his net which he hath hidden catch himself: for destruction let him fall therein.
9 And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah; it shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflicted from one stronger than he, yea, the afflicted and the needy from him that spoileth him!
11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up; they lay to my charge things which I know not.
12 They reward me evil for good, to the bereavement of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I chastened my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom:
14 I behaved myself as though he had been a friend, a brother to me; I bowed down in sadness, as one that mourneth for a mother.
15 But at my halting they rejoiced, and gathered together: the slanderers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
16 With profane jesters for bread, they have gnashed their teeth against me.
17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, my only one from the young lions.
18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation; I will praise thee among much people.
19 Let not them that are wrongfully mine enemies rejoice over me; let them not wink with the eye that hate me without cause.
20 For they speak not peace; and they devise deceitful words against the quiet in the land.
21 And they opened their mouth wide against me; they said, Aha! aha! our eye hath seen it.
22 Thou hast seen it, Jehovah: keep not silence; O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Stir up thyself, and awake for my right, for my cause, my God and Lord!
24 Judge me, Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me.
25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha! so would we have it. Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine adversity; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Douay-Rheims 1899

1 Unto the end, for the servant of God, David himself.
2 The unjust hath said within himself, that he would sin: there is no fear of God before his eyes.
3 For in his sight he hath done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred.
4 The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile: he would not understand that he might do well.
5 He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he hath not hated.
6 O Lord, thy mercy is in heaven, and thy truth reacheth, even to the clouds.
7 Thy justice is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts thou wilt preserve, O Lord:
8 O how hast thou multiplied thy mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of thy wings.
9 They shall be inebriated with the plenty of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the torrent of thy pleasure.
10 For with thee is the fountain of life; and in thy light we shall see light.
11 Extend thy mercy to them that know thee, and thy justice to them that are right in heart.
12 Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me.
13 There the workers of iniquity are fallen, they are cast out, and could not stand.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Free Bible Version

1 A psalm of David. Oppose my opponents, Lord; fight those who are fighting against me.
2 Put your armor on, and pick up your shield. Get ready, come and help me.
3 Draw your spear and your javelin, confront those who are chasing me. Tell me, “I am your salvation!”
4 Shame them! Humiliate those who are trying to kill me! Turn them back! Disgrace those who are planning to hurt me!
5 Let them be like chaff blown by the wind; let the angel of the Lord drive them away.
6 May their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord chasing them down.
7 For no reason they set a net to catch me; for no reason they dug a pit to trap me.
8 Let disaster come on them suddenly; let the net they set catch them instead; let the pit they dug trap them instead.
9 Then I will be glad in the Lord; I will be happy in his salvation.
10 Every part of me will say, Who can compare to you, Lord? You rescue the weak from the strong; the poor and needy from robbers.
11 Hostile witnesses stand up to testify against me, accusing me of crimes I don't know anything about.
12 They pay me back with evil instead of good. I feel like giving up.
13 But when they were sick, I put on clothes of sackcloth in sympathy. I denied myself through fasting. May my prayer for them return to bless me too.
14 I was upset for them, as if they were my own friends or family; I bowed down in grief as if I was mourning my own mother.
15 But when I was in trouble, they gathered around and laughed at me. Even strangers I don't know attacked me, constantly tearing me apart.
16 Like irreligious people mocking a cripple they mock me and call me names, gnashing their teeth at me.
17 How long, Lord, will you sit by and just watch? Save me from their vicious attacks; defend the only life I have from these lions.
18 Then I will thank you in front of the whole congregation and praise you in front of all the people.
19 Don't let my enemies take pleasure in my troubles, those people who hate me and tell lies about me, gloating over me for no reason.
20 They are not looking for peace; they invent malicious and deceptive schemes against innocent peace-loving people.
21 They open their mouths wide to make accusations against me, saying, “Look! Look! We saw it with our own eyes!”
22 But Lord, you've seen all this! Say something! Don't give up on me, Lord!
23 Wake up! Get up and defend me, my Lord and my God! Take up my case and make sure justice is done!
24 Vindicate me, my Lord and my God, because you are just and right. Don't let them gloat over me.
25 Don't let them say to themselves, “Look! We got what we wanted!” Don't let them say, “We completely destroyed him!”
26 Make them totally ashamed, all those who are happy for the trouble I'm in. Let those who are celebrating over me be covered with shame and dishonor.

9 Then my soule shalbe ioyfull in the Lord: it shall reioyce in his saluation.
10 All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like vnto thee, which deliuerest the poore from him, that is too strong for him! yea, the poore and him that is in miserie, from him that spoyleth him!
11 Cruell witnesses did rise vp: they asked of me things that I knewe not.
12 They rewarded me euill for good, to haue spoyled my soule.
13 Yet I, when they were sicke, I was clothed with a sacke: I humbled my soule with fasting: and my praier was turned vpon my bosome.
14 I behaued my selfe as to my friend, or as to my brother: I humbled my selfe, mourning as one that bewaileth his mother.
15 But in mine aduersitie they reioyced, and gathered them selues together: the abiects assembled themselues against me, and knewe not: they tare me and ceased not,
16 With the false skoffers at bankets, gnashing their teeth against me.
17 Lord, how long wilt thou beholde this? deliuer my soule from their tumult, euen my desolate soule from the lions.
18 So will I giue thee thankes in a great Congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
19 Let not them that are mine enemies, vniustly reioyce ouer mee, neyther let them winke with the eye, that hate mee without a cause.
20 For they speake not as friendes: but they imagine deceitfull woordes against the quiet of the lande.
21 And they gaped on mee with their mouthes, saying, Aha, aha, our eye hath seene.
22 Thou hast seene it, O Lord: keepe not silence: be not farre from me, O Lord.
23 Arise and wake to my iudgement, euen to my cause, my God, and my Lord.
24 Iudge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousnesse, and let them not reioyce ouer mee.
25 Let them not say in their hearts, O our soule reioyce: neither let them say, We haue deuoured him.
26 Let them bee confounded, and put to shame together, that reioyce at mine hurt: let them bee clothed with confusion and shame, that lift vp themselues against me.

1 “Of David.” Contend, O Lord, with those that contend with me: fight against those that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and rise up for my help.
3 And draw out the spear, and step in against my pursuers; say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
4 Let those be put to shame and be confounded that seek after my life: let those be turned backward and be made to blush, that devise unhappiness for me.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind; and may the angel of the Lord cast them forth.
6 May their way be dark and slippery: and may the angel of the Lord pursue them.
7 For without cause have they hidden for me their net in a pit, without cause have they dug pit-falls against my life.
8 May then destruction come upon each of them at unawares; and may his net that he hath hidden catch himself: in utter destruction let him fall therein.
9 But my soul shall exult in the Lord: she shall be glad through his salvation.
10 All my bones will say, Lord, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him?
11 There rise up witnesses of violence; concerning what I know not they question me.
12 They recompense me with evil in place of good, bringing bereavement on my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I afflicted with fasting my soul, and my prayer returned into my own bosom.
14 As though he had been to me a friend or a brother did I walk about: as one that mourneth for a mother did I sorrowfully bend down my head.
15 But in my downfall they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together; there gathered themselves together against me abject wretches, whom I knew not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
16 With hypocritical babbling mockers, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
17 O Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, from the young lions my solitary spirit.
18 I will thank thee in the great assembly: among a mighty people will I praise thee.
19 Let not rejoice over me those that are my enemies wrongfully: nor let those who hate me without cause wink with the eye.
20 For they speak not peace; but against the quiet in the land they devise deceitful words.
21 Yea, they opened wide against me their mouth; they said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
22 Thou hast seen it, O Lord! remain not silent: O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Arouse thyself, and awake to do me justice, my God and my Lord, unto my cause.
24 Judge me according to thy righteousness, O Lord my God; and let them not rejoice over me.
25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha, this is the wish of our soul: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
26 Let those be made ashamed and put to the blush together that rejoice at my mishap; let them be clothed with shame and confusion that magnify themselves above me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Updated Brenton English Septuagint

9 They shall be fully satisfied with the fatness of thy house; And thou shalt cause them to drink of the full stream of thy delights.

2 Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help!
3 Draw forth the spear and the axe against my persecutors; Say to me, “I am thy salvation.”
4 May they be confounded and put to shame, who seek my life; May they be turned back with disgrace, who devise my hurt!
5 May they be like dust before the wind; May the angel of the LORD drive them!
6 May their way be dark and slippery, And may the angel of the LORD pursue them!
7 For without cause they have laid for me a snare; Without cause they have digged for me a pit.
8 May unforeseen destruction come upon them! May the snare which they have laid lay hold on themselves, And may they fall into destruction!
9 Then shall my soul rejoice in the LORD; It shall exult in his protection.
10 All my bones shall say, Who, O LORD! is like thee, Who dost rescue the afflicted from the oppressor, The afflicted and destitute from the spoiler?
11 False witnesses have risen up; They charge me with that which has not entered my mind.
12 They repay me evil for good; They cause bereavement to my soul.
13 And yet I, during their sickness, clothed myself with sackcloth, And afflicted myself with fasting; And my prayer was turned to my bosom.
14 I behaved myself as if he had been my friend or brother; I bowed down in sadness, as one mourning for his mother.
15 But at my fall they rejoice, and gather themselves together; Revilers whom I know not assemble themselves against me; They tear me without ceasing.
16 With base men who mock for their bread, They gnash at me with their teeth.
17 How long, O LORD! wilt thou look on? O rescue my life from the destruction they plot for me; My precious life from these young lions!
18 I will thank thee in the great assembly! Before a numerous people I will praise thee.
19 Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully triumph over me; Let them not wink with the eye, who hate me without cause!
20 For they speak not peace; They devise deceit against them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yea, they open their mouths wide against me; They say, “Aha, aha! our eyes seeth it.”
22 Thou seest it, O LORD! be not silent! O LORD! be not far from me!
23 Arouse thyself; awake for my defence! My God and my Lord, awake to my cause!
24 Judge me according to thy righteousness, O Jehovah, my God! Let them not triumph over me!
25 Let them not say in their hearts, “Aha! we have our wish!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up!”

13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting. My prayer teshuvah ·completely returned· into my own bosom.
14 I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother.
15 But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I didn’t know it. They tore at me, and didn’t cease.
16 Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me.
17 Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, my precious life from the lions.
18 I will yadah ·extend hands in thankful praise· to you in the great assembly. I will praise you among many people.
19 Don’t let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me without a cause wink their eyes.
20 For they don’t speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.
21 Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, “Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!”
22 You have seen it, Adonai . Don’t keep silent. Lord, don’t be far from me.
23 Wake up! Rise up to my mishpat ·justice· me, my God! My Lord, contend for me!
24 Vindicate me, Adonai my God, according to your righteousness. Don’t let them gloat over me.
25 Don’t let them say in their heart, “Aha! That’s the way we want it!” Don’t let them say, “We have swallowed him up!”
26 Let them be disappointed and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Unlocked Literal Bible

1 A psalm of David. Yahweh, work against those who work against me; fight against those who fight against me.
2 Grab your small shield and large shield; rise up and help me.
3 Use your spear and battle ax against those who chase me; say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”
4 May those who seek my life be shamed and dishonored. May those who plan to harm me be turned back and confounded.
5 May they be as chaff before the wind, as the angel of Yahweh drives them away.
6 May their way be dark and slippery, as the angel of Yahweh chases them.
7 Without cause they set their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life.
8 Let destruction overtake them by surprise. Let the net that they have set catch them. Let them fall into it, to their destruction.
9 But I will be joyful in Yahweh and rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones will say, “Yahweh, who is like you, who rescues the oppressed from those who are too strong for them and the poor and needy from those who try to rob them?”
11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up; they accuse me falsely.
12 They repay me evil for good. I am sorrowful.
13 But, when they were sick, I wore sackcloth; I fasted for them with my head bowed on my chest.
14 I went about in grief as for my brother; I bent down in mourning as for my mother.
15 But when I stumbled, they rejoiced and gathered together; they gathered together against me, and I was surprised by them. They tore at me without stopping.
16 With no respect at all they mocked me; they grind their teeth at me in rage.
17 Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destructive attacks, my life from the lions.
18 Then I will thank you in the great assembly; I will praise you among many people.
19 Do not let my deceitful enemies rejoice over me; do not let them carry out their wicked schemes.
20 For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those in our land who live in peace.
21 They open their mouths wide against me; they said, “Aha, Aha, our eyes have seen it.”
22 You have seen it, Yahweh, do not be silent; Lord, do not be far from me.
23 Arouse yourself and awake to my defense; My God and my Lord, defend my cause.
24 Defend me, Yahweh my God, because of your righteousness; do not let them rejoice over me.
25 Do not let them say in their heart, “Aha, we have what we wanted.” Do not let them say, “We have devoured him.”
26 May they be put to shame and may they be confounded who rejoice at my distress. May those who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and dishonor.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Noah Webster Bible

1 A Psalm of David. Plead my cause , O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.
3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say to my soul, I am thy salvation.
4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them .
6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
7 For without cause they have hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like thee, who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, even the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
11 False witnesses arose; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
12 They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom.
14 I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
15 But in my adversity they rejoiced, and assembled themselves: yes , the abjects assembled themselves against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me , and ceased not:
16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
17 LORD, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among many people.
19 Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it .
22 This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O LORD, be not far from me.
23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even to my cause, my God and my LORD.
24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

1 To David. The psalm of David. Lord, deem thou them, that annoy me; overcome thou them, that fight against me.
2 Take thou armours and shield; and rise up into help to me.
3 Hold out the sword, and close altogether the way against them that pursue me; say thou to my soul, I am thine health.
4 They that seek my life; be shamed, and ashamed. They that think evils to me; be turned away backward, and be they shamed.
5 Be they made as dust before the face of the wind; and the angel of the Lord make them strait.
6 Their way be made darkness, and sliderness; and the angel of the Lord pursue them.
7 For without cause they hid to me the death of their snare; in vain they despised my soul.
8 The snare which he knoweth not come to him, and the taking which he hid take him; and fall he into the snare in that thing.
9 But my soul shall fully have joy in the Lord; and shall delight on his health.
10 All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like thee? Thou deliverest a poor man from the hand of his stronger; a needy man and poor from them that diversely ravish him.
11 Wicked witnesses rising asked me things, which I knew not.
12 They yielded to me evils for goods; barrenness to my soul.
13 But when they were dis-easeful to me; I was clothed in an hair-shirt. I meeked my soul in fasting; and my prayer shall be turned into my bosom.
14 I pleased so as our neighbour, as our brother; I was made meek, so as mourning and sorrowful.
15 And they were glad, and came together against me; torments were gathered on me, and I knew it not. They were scattered, and not compunct;
16 they tempted me, they scorned me with mocking, they gnashed on me with their teeth.
17 Lord, when thou shalt behold, restore thou my soul from the wicked-ness of them; mine one alone from lions.
18 I shall acknowledge to thee in a great church; I shall praise thee in a firm people.
19 They that be adversaries wickedly to me, have not joy on me; that hate me without cause, and beckon with eyes.
20 For soothly they spake not peace-ably to me; and they speaking in wrath-fulness of the earth, thought guiles.
21 And they made large their mouth on me; they said, Well, well! our eyes have seen.
22 Lord, thou hast seen, be thou not still; Lord, depart thou not from me.
23 Rise up, and give attention to my doom; my God and my Lord, behold into my cause.
24 My Lord God, deem thou me by thy rightfulness or rightwiseness; and have they not joy on me.
25 Say they not in their hearts, Well, well, to our soul; neither say they, We shall devour him.
26 Shame they, and dread they together; that joy for mine evils. Be they clothed with shame and dread; that speak evil things on me.

Psalms 35:1-26 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

1 To David. The psalm of David. Lord, deem thou them, that annoy me; overcome thou them, that fight against me. (A song by David. Lord, judge thou them, who harm me; overcome thou them, who fight against me.)
2 Take thou armours and shield; and rise up into help to me. (Take thou up arms, or weapons, and shield; and rise up to help me.)
3 Shed out the sword/Hold out the sword, and close (al)together (the way) against them that pursue me; say thou to my soul, I am thine health. (Draw out the sword, and close up the way against those who persecute me; say thou to me, I am thy salvation, or thy deliverance.)
4 They that seek my life; be shamed, and ashamed. They that think evils to me; be turned away backward, and be they shamed. (Let those who seek my life; be shamed, and ashamed. Let those who plot evil against me; be turned back, and be shamed.)
5 Be they made as dust before the face of the wind; and the angel of the Lord make them strait. (Let them be made like the dust in the wind; and let the angel of the Lord pursue them.)
6 Their way be made darkness, and sliderness; and the angel of the Lord pursue them. (Let their way be made dark, and slippery; and may the angel of the Lord strike them down.)
7 For without cause they hid to me the death of their snare; in vain they despised my soul. (For no reason, they hid their deadly snare for me or they hid their snare for me in a pit; for no reason, they despised me.)
8 The snare which he knoweth not come to him, and the taking which he hid take him; and fall he into the snare in that thing. (But let the snare catch him unawares, or by surprise, yea, let the trap which he himself hid, catch him; and let him fall to his own destruction in that thing.)
9 But my soul shall fully have joy in the Lord; and shall delight on his health. (But my soul shall have full out joy, or shall rejoice, in the Lord; and it shall delight in his salvation, or in his deliverance.)
10 All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like thee? Thou deliverest a poor man from the hand of his stronger; a needy man and poor from them that diversely ravish him. (All my bones said, Lord, who is like thee? Thou rescuest the poor from the hands of those who be stronger; yea, the poor and the needy from those who oppress them.)
11 Wicked witnesses rising (up) asked me things, which I knew not.
12 They yielded to me evils for goods; barrenness to my soul. (They gave me evil for good; making my soul barren.)
13 But when they were dis-easeful to me; I was clothed in an hair-shirt. I meeked my soul in fasting; and my prayer shall be turned (again) into my bosom. (But yet when they were sick; I was clothed in a hair-shirt. I humbled myself with fasting; and I prayed to the Lord for them.)
14 I pleased so as our neighbour, as our brother; I was made meek, so as mourning and sorrowful. (I went around, like he was my neighbour, or my brother; I was humbled, like one mourning and sorrowful for his own mother.)
15 And they were glad, and came together against me; torments were gathered on me, and I knew it not. They were scattered, and not compunct; (But when I was in torment, they were glad, and came together against me; yea, they were gathered together against me, and I knew not why. They tore me apart, and would not stop;)
16 they tempted me, they scorned me with mocking, they gnashed on me with their teeth.
17 Lord, when thou shalt behold, restore thou my soul from the wickedness of them; mine one alone from lions. (Lord, how long shalt thou but look at me? rescue thou me from their wicked assailings, yea, save my life from these lions.)
18 I shall acknowledge to thee in a great church; I shall praise thee in a firm people. (I shall give thanks to thee in the great congregation; I shall praise thee before many people.)
19 They that be adversaries wickedly to me, have not joy on me; that hate me without cause, and beckon with eyes. (Let not those who be my adversaries wickedly have joy over me; let not those who hate me for no reason, leer at me with delight.)
20 For soothly they spake (not) peaceably to me; and they speaking in wrathfulness of the earth, thought guiles. (For they do not speak peacefully; but they tell forth all kinds of lies, against those, who live quietly upon the earth.)
21 And they made large their mouth on me; they said, Well, well! our eyes have seen. (And they opened their mouths wide against me; and they said, Well, well! now our eyes have seen it all!)
22 Lord, thou hast seen, be thou not still; Lord, depart thou not from me. (Lord, thou hast seen all of this, so keep thou not silent; Lord, go thou not away from me.)
23 Rise up, and give attention to my doom; my God and my Lord, behold into my cause. (Rise up, and give me justice; my God and my Lord, (please plead) my case!)
24 My Lord God, deem thou me by thy rightfulness; and have they not joy on me. (My Lord God, judge thou me by thy righteousness; and do not let them have joy over me.)
25 Say they not in their hearts, Well, well, to our soul; neither say they, We shall devour him. (Let them not say in their hearts, Well, well; nor let them say, We have devoured him!)
26 Shame they, and dread they together; that joy for mine evils. Be they clothed with shame and dread; that speak evil things on me. (Let them all be ashamed, and fearful; who take joy over my suffering. Let them be clothed with shame and fear; who speak evil against me.)

Psalms 35:1-26 in Young's Literal Translation

1 By David. Strive, Jehovah, with my strivers, fight with my fighters,
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and rise for my help,
3 And draw out spear and lance, To meet my pursuers. Say to my soul, 'Thy salvation I am.'
4 They are ashamed and blush, those seeking my soul, Turned backward and confounded, Those devising my evil.
5 They are as chaff before wind, And a messenger of Jehovah driving away.
6 Their way is darkness and slipperiness, And a messenger of Jehovah their pursuer.
7 For without cause they hid for me their netpit, Without cause they digged for my soul.
8 Meet him doth desolation — he knoweth not, And his net that he hid catcheth him, For desolation he falleth into it.
9 And my soul is joyful in Jehovah, It rejoiceth in His salvation.
10 All my bones say, 'Jehovah, who is like Thee, Delivering the poor from the stronger than he, And the poor and needy from his plunderer.'
11 Violent witnesses rise up, That which I have not known they ask me.
12 They pay me evil for good, bereaving my soul,
13 And I — in their sickness my clothing is sackcloth, I have humbled with fastings my soul, And my prayer unto my bosom returneth.
14 As if a friend, as if my brother, I walked habitually, As a mourner for a mother, Mourning I have bowed down.
15 And — in my halting they have rejoiced, And have been gathered together, Gathered against me were the smiters, And I have not known, They have rent, and they have not ceased;
16 With profane ones, mockers in feasts, Gnashing against me their teeth.
17 Lord, how long dost thou behold? Keep back my soul from their desolations, From young lions my only one.
18 I thank Thee in a great assembly, Among a mighty people I praise Thee.
19 Mine enemies rejoice not over me with falsehood, Those hating me without cause wink the eye.
20 For they speak not peace, And against the quiet of the land, Deceitful words they devise,
21 And they enlarge against me their mouth, They said, 'Aha, aha, our eye hath seen.'
22 Thou hast seen, O Jehovah, Be not silent, O Lord — be not far from me,
23 Stir up, and wake to my judgment, My God, and my Lord, to my plea.
24 Judge me according to Thy righteousness, O Jehovah my God, And they do not rejoice over me.
25 They do not say in their heart, 'Aha, our desire.' They do not say, 'We swallowed him up.'
26 They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are rejoicing at my evil. They put on shame and confusion, Who are magnifying themselves against me.
