¹⁸ Let the lying lips be dumb, Which speak against the righteous insolently, With pride and contempt.

¹⁹ Oh how great is thy goodness, Which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, Which thou hast wrought for them that take refuge in thee, Before the sons of men!

²⁰ In the covert of thy presence wilt thou hide them from the plottings of man: Thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

²¹ Blessed be Jehovah; For he hath showed me his marvellous lovingkindness in a strong city.

²² As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: Nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications, When I cried unto thee.

²³ Oh love Jehovah, all ye his saints: Jehovah preserveth the faithful, And plentifully rewardeth him that dealeth proudly.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

¹⁸ I desire that you will cause people MTY who tell lies to be unable to speak. Do that to people who are proud and those who arrogantly accuse righteous people.

¹⁹ You have stored up many blessings for those who revere you. You do those good things for those who go to you to be protected; everyone sees you doing that.

²⁰ You hide people in your presence where it is safe, and protect them from people who plot to kill them. You hide them in safe places from their enemies MTY who accuse/insult them.

²¹ Praise Yahweh! When my enemies surrounded the city in which I was living, he showed me in a wonderful way that he faithfully loves me.

²² I was afraid, and I cried out, “I have been separated from Yahweh!” but you heard me and answered my cry for help.

²³ You people who belong to Yahweh, love him! Those who are loyal to him, he protects, but those who are very proud, he punishes them severely like they deserve to be punished.

²⁰ You will keep them safe in your house from the designs of man; in the secret of your tent will you keep them from angry tongues.

²¹ May the Lord be praised, because he has made clear to me the wonder of his grace in a strong town.

²² And as for me, I said in my fear, I am cut off from before your eyes; but you gave ear to the voice of my prayer, when my cry went up to you.

²³ O have love for the Lord, all you his saints; for the Lord keeps safe from danger all those who are true to him, and gives the workers of pride their right reward.

²⁰ Thou keepest them concealed in the secret of thy presence from the conspiracies of man; thou hidest them in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

²¹ Blessed be Jehovah; for he hath shewn me wondrously his loving-kindness in a strong city.

²² As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes; nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

²³ Love Jehovah, all ye his saints. Jehovah preserveth the faithful, and plentifully requiteth the proud doer.

¹⁸ Shut the mouths of those who tell lies against good people—those who speak contemptuously in their pride and arrogance!

¹⁹ How wonderful is the goodness you have reserved for those who honor you! In front of everyone you give this goodness to those who come to you for help.

²⁰ You shelter and protect them with your presence, far from their enemies who scheme against them. You keep them safe from attacks and accusations.

²¹ Bless the Lord, for he has shown me his wonderful trustworthy love when my city was being attacked

²² Terrified I cried out, “I am being destroyed right in front of you!” But you heard my cry when I called out for you to help me.

²³ Love the Lord, all you who trust in him! The Lord takes care of those who trust him, but he pays back in full those who are arrogant.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be made dumme, which cruelly, proudly and spitefully speake against the righteous.

¹⁹ Howe great is thy goodnesse, which thou hast layde vp for them, that feare thee! and done to them, that trust in thee, euen before the sonnes of men!

²⁰ Thou doest hide them priuily in thy presence from the pride of men: thou keepest them secretly in thy Tabernacle from the strife of tongues.

²¹ Blessed be the Lord: for hee hath shewed his marueilous kindenesse toward me in a strong citie.

²² Though I said in mine haste, I am cast out of thy sight, yet thou heardest the voyce of my prayer, when I cryed vnto thee.

²³ Loue ye the Lord all his Saintes: for the Lord preserueth the faithfull, and rewardeth abundantly the proud doer.

¹⁹ (31-20) Oh how abundant is Thy goodness, which Thou hast laid up for them that fear Thee; which Thou hast wrought for them that take their refuge in Thee, in the sight of the sons of men!

²⁰ (31-21) Thou hidest them in the covert of Thy presence from the plottings of man; Thou concealest them in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

²¹ (31-22) Blessed be the LORD; for He hath shown me His wondrous lovingkindness in an entrenched city.

²² (31-23) As for me, I said in my haste: 'I am cut off from before Thine eyes'; nevertheless Thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto Thee.

²³ (31-24) O love the LORD, all ye His godly ones; the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully repayeth him that acteth haughtily.

²⁰ (31:21) Thou wilt conceal them in the secret of thy presence from the conspiracy of men: thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

²¹ (31:22) Blessed be the Lord: for he hath shown me his kindness wonderfully in a beleaguered city.

²² (31:23) And yet had I said in my despondency, I am cut off from before thy eyes: nevertheless thou didst hear the voice of my supplications when I cried loudly unto thee.

²³ (31:24) Oh love the Lord, all ye his pious ones: the Lord preserveth the faithful, and recompenses the presumption of him that acteth proudly.

¹⁹ O how great is thy goodness, which thou treasurest up for them that fear thee; Which thou showest to them that trust in thee, before the sons of men!

²⁰ Thou hidest them in the secret place of thy presence from the machinations of men; Thou shelterest them in thy pavilion from the violence of tongues.

²¹ Praised be the LORD; for he hath shown me his wonderful kindness, As in a fortified city!

²² I said in my distress, “I am cut off from before thine eyes;” But thou didst hear the voice of my supplication, When I cried unto thee.

²³ O love the LORD, all ye his servants; For the LORD preserveth the faithful, And requiteth the proud in full measure!

¹⁸ Strike the false lips dumb, that speak proudly against the righteous with haughtiness and contempt.

¹⁹ How great is the goodness you have treasured for those who fear you, and wrought for those who take refuge in you, in plain sight of all!

²⁰ In your sheltering wings you hide them from plottings of people, you keep them safe in a bower from the chiding of tongues.

²¹ Blest be the Lord for the wonderful love he has shown me in time of distress.

²³ Oh 'ahav ·affectionately love· Adonai , all you his saints! Adonai preserves the faithful, and fully recompenses him who behaves arrogantly.

¹⁸ May lying lips be silenced that speak against the righteous defiantly with arrogance and contempt.

¹⁹ How great is your goodness that you have stored up for those who revere you, that you perform for those who take refuge in you before all the children of mankind!

²⁰ In the shelter of your presence, you hide them from the plots of men. You hide them in a shelter from the violence of tongues.

²¹ Blessed be Yahweh, for he showed me his marvelous covenant faithfulness when I was in a besieged city.

²² Though I said in my haste, “I am cut off from your eyes,” yet you heard my plea for help when I cried to you.

²³ Oh, love Yahweh, all you faithful followers. Yahweh protects the faithful, but he pays back the arrogant in full.

(Lord, the multitude of thy goodness is very great; which thou hast kept safe for those who fear thee or for those who revere thee. Thou hast made a perfect thing for those who put their trust in thee; before the sons and daughters of men.)

²⁰ Thou shalt hide them in the private of thy face; from the troubling of men, (or Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence; from all the troubles caused by people). Thou shalt defend them in thy tabernacle; from the against-saying of tongues.

²¹ Blessed be the Lord; for he hath made wonderful his mercy to me in a strengthened city. (Blessed be the Lord; for he hath shown his wonderful love to me, like a city that is strengthened, or fortified.)

²² Forsooth I said in the out-passing of my soul; I am cast out from the face of thine eyes. Therefore thou heardest the voice of my prayer; while I cried to thee. (For I said in the going forth of my soul, I am cast out from before thine eyes. But thou heardest the words of my prayer; when I cried to thee for help.)

²³ All ye holy men of the Lord, love him; for the Lord shall seek truth, and he shall yield plenteously to them that do pride. (All ye holy people of the Lord, love him; for the Lord preserveth the faithful, but he shall strongly punish the proud.)

¹⁸ Let lips of falsehood become dumb, That are speaking against the righteous, Ancient sayings, in pride and contempt.

¹⁹ How abundant is Thy goodness, That Thou hast laid up for those fearing Thee,

²⁰ Thou hast wrought for those trusting in Thee, Before sons of men. Thou hidest them in the secret place of Thy presence, From artifices of man, Thou concealest them in a tabernacle, From the strife of tongues.

²¹ Blessed is Jehovah, For He hath made marvellous His kindness To me in a city of bulwarks.

²² And I — I have said in my haste, 'I have been cut off from before Thine eyes,' But Thou hast heard the voice of my supplications, In my crying unto Thee.

²³ Love Jehovah, all ye His saints, Jehovah is keeping the faithful, And recompensing abundantly a proud doer.
