Psalms 27:1-7 in English

¹ A Psalm of David. Jehovah is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

² When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh, Even mine adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

³ Though a host should encamp against me, My heart shall not fear: Though war should rise against me, Even then will I be confident.

⁴ One thing have I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after: That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of Jehovah, And to inquire in his temple.

⁵ For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion: In the covert of his tabernacle will he hide me; He will lift me up upon a rock.

⁶ And now shall my head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; And I will offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto Jehovah.

⁷ Hear, O Jehovah, when I cry with my voice: Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

⁴ Give them according to their works, and according to the wickedness of their devices: give them according to the works of their hands; render their recompence unto them.

⁵ Because they have not attended to the works of the Lord, even to the works of his hands, thou shalt pull them down, and shalt not build them up.

⁶ Blessed be the Lord, for he has hearkened to the voice of my petition.

⁷ The Lord is my helper and my defender; my heart has hoped in him, and I am helped: my flesh has revived, and willingly will I give praise to him.

¹ Yahweh is the one who gives light to my soul/spirit and the one who saves me, so I do not RHQ need to be afraid of anyone. Yahweh is the one to whom I go for refuge, so I will never be afraid.

² When those who do evil come near me to attack me, they stumble and fall down.

³ Even if an army surrounds me, I SYN will not be afraid. Even if they attack me, I will trust in God.

⁴ There is one thing that I have requested from Yahweh; this is the one thing that I desire: That I may worship in Yahweh's house/temple every day of my life, and see that Yahweh is wonderful and inquire what he wants me to do.

⁵ He will protect me when I have troubles; he will keep me safe in his Sacred Tent. He will set me safely ◄on a high rock/in a secure place►.

⁶ Then I will triumph over IDM my enemies. I will shout joyfully as I offer sacrifices in his Sacred Tent, and I will praise Yahweh as I sing.

⁷ Yahweh, listen to me while I pray. Be kind to me and answer my prayer.

¹ Of David. The Lord is my light and my salvation; who is then a cause of fear to me? the Lord is the strength of my life; who is a danger to me?

² When evil-doers, even my haters, came on me to put an end to me, they were broken and put to shame.

³ Even if an army came against me with its tents, my heart would have no fear: if war was made on me, my faith would not be moved.

⁴ One prayer have I made to the Lord, and this is my heart's desire; that I may have a place in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, looking on his glory, and getting wisdom in his Temple.

⁵ For in the time of trouble he will keep me safe in his tent: in the secret place of his tent he will keep me from men's eyes; high on a rock he will put me.

⁶ And now my head will be lifted up higher than my haters who are round me: because of this I will make offerings of joy in his tent; I will make a song, truly I will make a song of praise to the Lord.

⁷ O Lord, let the voice of my cry come to your ears: have mercy on me, and give me an answer.

⁶ And now shall my head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; and I will offer in his tent sacrifices of shouts of joy: I will sing, yea, I will sing psalms unto Jehovah.

⁷ Hear, Jehovah; with my voice do I call; be gracious unto me, and answer me.

¹ A psalm for David himself. Unto thee will I cry, O Lord: O my God, be not thou silent to me: lest thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

² Hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication, when I pray to thee; when I lift up my hands to thy holy temple.

³ Draw me not away together with the wicked; and with the workers of iniquity destroy me not: Who speak peace with their neighbour, but evils are in their hearts.

⁴ Give them according to their works, and according to the wickedness of their inventions. According to the works of their hands give thou to them: render to them their reward.

⁵ Because they have not understood the works of the Lord, and the operations of his hands: thou shalt destroy them, and shalt not build them up.

⁶ Blessed be the Lord, for he hath heard the voice of my supplication.

⁷ The Lord is my helper and my protector: in him hath my heart confided, and I have been helped. And my flesh hath flourished again, and with my will I will give praise to him.

¹ A psalm of David. The Lord is my light and my salvation! How could anyone scare me? The Lord is my life's fortress! How could anyone terrify me?

² When evil people come at me to tear me apart, it's my enemies, those who are against me, they're the ones who trip and fall.

³ Even if an army surrounds me, I won't be frightened. Even if I am attacked, I will still trust in God.

⁴ I only ask the Lord for one thing: I just want to live in the house of the Lord throughout my life, contemplating the Lord's goodness and thinking about his Temple.

⁵ When troubles come he will protect me and keep me safe, hiding me in his house, as secure as if he'd placed me on a high rock.

⁶ He will hold my head high over my enemies who are all around me. I shall offer sacrifices in his house with shouts of joy, and I will sing praises to the Lord.

⁷ Listen to me, Lord, when I call for help. Be gracious and answer me.

⁴ One thing haue I desired of the Lord, that I will require, euen that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the dayes of my life, to beholde the beautie of the Lord, and to visite his Temple.

⁵ For in the time of trouble hee shall hide mee in his Tabernacle: in the secrete place of his pauillion shall he hide me, and set me vp vpon a rocke.

⁶ And nowe shall hee lift vp mine head aboue mine enemies rounde about mee: therefore wil I offer in his Tabernacle sacrifices of ioy: I wil sing and praise the Lord.

⁵ For he will hide me in his pavilion on the day of evil; he will conceal me in the secret of his tabernacle; upon a rock will he place me high.

⁶ And now will my head be lifted up above my enemies all round about me; and I will sacrifice in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy: I will sing, and I will triumphantly play unto the Lord.

⁶ Yea, already doth he lift my head above my enemies, who are around me; Therefore in his tabernacle will I offer sacrifices with the sound of trumpets; I will sing, yea, with instruments of music I will give praise to the LORD.

³ Though against me a host should encamp, yet my heart would be fearless: though battle should rise up against me, still would I be trustful.

⁴ One thing have I asked of the Lord, and that do I long for — To live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the grace of the Lord and enquire in his temple.

⁵ For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of misfortune. In his sheltering tent he hides me: he lifts me up on a rock.

⁶ And now that my head he has lifted above my encircling foes, I will march round the altar and sacrifice, shouting with joy, in his tent, making music and song to the Lord.

⁴ One thing have I asked of Yahweh, and I will seek that: that I may live in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life, to see the beauty of Yahweh and to meditate in his temple.

⁵ For in the day of trouble he will hide me in his shelter; in the cover of his tent he will conceal me. He will lift me high on a rock!

⁶ Then my head will be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent! I will sing and make songs to Yahweh!

⁴ One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, to see the LORD’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple.

⁵ For in the day of trouble, he will keep me secretly in his pavilion. In the secret place of his tabernacle, he will hide me. He will lift me up on a rock.

⁶ Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me. I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

⁷ Hear, LORD, when I cry with my voice. Have mercy also on me, and answer me.

¹ By David. The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

² When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

³ Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

² The while noisome men nigh on me; for to eat my fleshes. Mine enemies, that troubled me; they were made sick and felled or fell down.

³ Though castles or tents stand together against me; mine heart shall not dread. Though battle riseth against me; in this thing I shall have hope.

⁵ For he hid me in his tabernacle in the day of evils; he defended me in the hid place of his tabernacle. He enhanced me in a stone;

⁶ and now he enhanced mine head over mine enemies. I compassed, and offered in his tabernacle a sacrifice of crying out; I shall sing, and I shall say psalm to the Lord.

⁷ Lord, hear thou my voice, by which I cried to thee; have thou mercy on me, and hear me.

³ Though castles stand together against me; mine heart shall not dread, (or Though hosts, or armies, stand together against me; my heart shall not fear). Though battle riseth against me; in this thing I shall have hope.

⁴ I asked of the Lord one thing; I shall seek this thing; that I dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. That I see the will of the Lord; and that I visit his temple. (I asked of the Lord only one thing; and I shall seek this thing; that I live in the House of the Lord all the days of my life. So that I can see the beauty of the Lord; and I can seek his guidance in his Temple.)

⁵ For he hid me in his tabernacle in the day of evils; he defended me in the hid place of his tabernacle. He enhanced me in a stone; (For he shall hide me in his Temple on the day of evil; he shall defend me in the hidden place of his Temple. He shall put me upon a stone;)

⁶ and now he enhanced mine head over mine enemies. I compassed, and offered in his tabernacle a sacrifice of crying out; I shall sing, and I shall say psalm to the Lord. (and then my head shall be lifted up over my enemies, who be all around me. And I shall offer an offering of acclamation in his Temple; yea, I shall sing a song of praise to the Lord.)

⁷ Lord, hear thou my voice, by which I cried to thee; have thou mercy on me, and hear me. (Lord, hear thou my voice, when I cry to thee; have thou mercy on me, and answer me.)

⁶ And now, lifted up is my head, Above my enemies — my surrounders, And I sacrifice in His tent sacrifices of shouting, I sing, yea, I sing praise to Jehovah.

⁷ Hear, O Jehovah, my voice — I call, And favour me, and answer me.
