⁵ The cords of Sheol were round about me; The snares of death came upon me.

⁶ In my distress I called upon Jehovah, And cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry before him came into his ears.

⁷ Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations also of the mountains quaked And were shaken, because he was wroth.

⁸ There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, And fire out of his mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it.

⁹ He bowed the heavens also, and came down; And thick darkness was under his feet.

¹⁰ And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly; Yea, he soared upon the wings of the wind.

¹¹ He made darkness his hiding-place, his pavilion round about him, Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.

¹² At the brightness before him his thick clouds passed, Hailstones and coals of fire.

¹³ Jehovah also thundered in the heavens, And the Most High uttered his voice, Hailstones and coals of fire.

¹⁴ And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.

¹⁵ Then the channels of waters appeared, And the foundations of the world were laid bare, At thy rebuke, O Jehovah, At the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

¹⁶ He sent from on high, he took me; He drew me out of many waters.

¹⁷ He delivered me from my strong enemy, And from them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me.

¹⁸ They came upon me in the day of my calamity; But Jehovah was my stay.

¹⁹ He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

²⁰ Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

²¹ For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, And have not wickedly departed from my God.

²² For all his ordinances were before me, And I put not away his statutes from me.

⁵ Their voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

⁶ In the sun he has set his tabernacle; and he comes forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber: he will exult as a giant to run his course.

⁷ His going forth is from the extremity of heaven, and his circuit to the other end of heaven: and no one shall be hidden from his heat.

⁸ The law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes.

⁹ The ordinances of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is bright, enlightening the eyes.

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever and ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, and justified altogether.

¹¹ To be desired more than gold, and much precious stone: sweeter also than honey and the honey-comb.

¹² For thy servant keeps to them: in the keeping of them there is great reward.

¹³ Who will understand his transgressions? purge thou me from my secret sins.

¹⁴ And spare thy servant the attack of strangers: if they do not gain the dominion over me, then shall I be blameless, and I shall be clear from great sin.

¹⁵ So shall the sayings of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing continually before thee, O Lord my helper, and my redeemer.

⁵ The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

¹⁷ He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

¹⁸ They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

²⁰ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

⁵ It was as though the place where dead people are had ropes that were wrapped around me, or it was as though there was a trap MET that would seize and kill me.

⁶ But when I was very distressed, I called out to Yahweh, and from his temple he heard me. He listened to me when I cried out for help.

⁷ Then the earth quaked/shook strongly DOU; the mountains shook very strongly from their centers DOU because Yahweh was angry.

⁸ It was as though smoke poured out from his nostrils, and as though burning coals came out of his mouth.

⁹ He opened the sky and came down with a black cloud under his feet.

¹⁰ He flew, riding on the back of a creature that had wings, traveling fast, blown along by the wind.

¹¹ Darkness was all around him like a blanket MET; dark clouds, full of moisture, covered him MET.

¹² Hailstones and flashes of lightning were around him; hail and burning coals fell from the sky.

¹³ Then Yahweh spoke in a loud voice from the sky, and his enemies heard his voice that sounded like thunder.

¹⁴ He shot his arrows at them and caused them to scatter; His flashes of lightning caused them to become very confused (OR, to run away).

¹⁵ The bottom of the ocean became visible, and the foundations of the earth were uncovered, when Yahweh rebuked his enemies when he snorted.

¹⁶ It was as though he reached down from heaven and grabbed me and pulled me up out of the deep ocean.

¹⁷ He rescued me from my strong enemies who hated me; they were very strong, with the result that I could not defeat them.

¹⁸ When I ◄was distressed/had troubles►, they attacked me, but Yahweh defended/protected me.

¹⁹ He led me to a place where I was safe; he rescued me because he was pleased with me.

²⁰ Yahweh has rewarded me because I do what is right; he has blessed me because I ◄am innocent/have not done things that are wrong►.

²¹ I have obeyed Yahweh's laws; I have not abandoned him.

²² My behavior was directed by his rules; I have not stopped obeying them.

⁶ In my trouble my voice went up to the Lord, and my cry to my God: my voice came to his hearing in his holy Temple, and my prayer came before him, even into his ears.

⁷ Then trouble and shock came on the earth; and the bases of the mountains were moved and shaking, because he was angry.

⁸ There went up a smoke from his nose, and a fire of destruction from his mouth: flames were lighted by it.

⁹ The heavens were bent, so that he might come down; and it was dark under his feet.

¹⁰ And he went in flight through the air, seated on a storm-cloud: going quickly on the wings of the wind.

¹¹ He made the dark his secret place; his tent round him was the dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

¹² Before his shining light his dark clouds went past, raining ice and fire.

¹³ The Lord made thunder in the heavens, and the voice of the Highest was sounding out: a rain of ice and fire.

¹⁴ He sent out his arrows, driving them in all directions; by his flames of fire they were troubled.

¹⁵ Then the deep beds of the waters were seen, and the bases of the world were uncovered, because of your words of wrath, O Lord, because of the breath from your mouth.

¹⁶ He sent from on high, he took me, pulling me out of great waters.

¹⁷ He made me free from my strong hater, and from those who were against me, because they were stronger than I.

¹⁸ They came on me in the day of my trouble; but the Lord was my support.

¹⁹ He took me out into a wide place; he was my saviour because he had delight in me.

²⁰ The Lord gives me the reward of my righteousness, because my hands are clean before him.

²¹ For I have kept the ways of the Lord; I have not been turned away in sin from my God.

²² For all his decisions were before me, and I did not put away his laws from me.

⁵ The bands of Sheol surrounded me, the cords of death encountered me.

¹⁵ And the beds of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at thy rebuke, Jehovah, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

¹⁶ He reached forth from above, he took me, he drew me out of great waters:

¹⁷ He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me; for they were mightier than I.

¹⁸ They encountered me in the day of my calamity, but Jehovah was my stay.

¹⁹ And he brought me forth into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

²⁰ Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

²¹ For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

²² For all his ordinances were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me;

⁵ Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth: and their words unto the ends of the world.

⁶ He hath set his tabernacle in the sun: and he, as a bridegroom coming out of his bride chamber, Hath rejoiced as a giant to run the way:

⁷ His going out is from the end of heaven, And his circuit even to the end thereof: and there is no one that can hide himself from his heat.

⁸ The law of the Lord is unspotted, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, giving wisdom to little ones.

⁹ The justices of the Lord are right, rejoicing hearts: the commandment of the Lord is lightsome, enlightening the eyes.

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for ever and ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.

¹¹ More to be desired than gold and many precious stones: and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.

¹² For thy servant keepeth them, and in keeping them there is a great reward.

¹³ Who can understand sins? from my secret ones cleanse me, O Lord:

¹⁴ And from those of others spare thy servant. If they shall have no dominion over me, then shall I be without spot: and I shall be cleansed from the greatest sin.

¹⁵ And the words of my mouth shall be such as may please: and the meditation of my heart always in thy sight. O Lord, my helper, and my redeemer.

⁵ The grave wound its ropes around me; death set snares for me.

⁶ In my despair I called on the Lord—I cried out to my God for help. He heard my voice from his Temple—my cry for help reached his ears.

⁷ The earth shook to and fro; the foundations of the mountains trembled, shaking because of his anger.

⁸ Smoke came out of his nostrils, and fire came from his mouth; burning coals blazed before him.

⁹ He parted the heavens and came down, with dark clouds beneath his feet.

¹⁰ Riding on an angel he flew, swooping on the wings of the wind.

¹¹ He hid himself in darkness, covering himself with black thunderclouds.

¹² Hailstones and burning coals flew out from his brightness, passing through his thick clouds.

¹³ The Lord thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High sounded among the hailstones and burning coals.

¹⁴ He fired his arrows, scattering his enemies; he routed them with his lightning bolts.

¹⁵ You roared, Lord, and by the wind from the breath of your nostrils the valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth were uncovered.

¹⁶ He reached down his hand from above and grabbed hold of me. He pulled me out of the deep water.

¹⁷ He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and who were much stronger than me.

¹⁸ They came at me at my worst possible moment, but the Lord supported me.

¹⁹ He set me free, he rescued me because he's my friend.

²⁰ The Lord rewarded me because I do what's right; he repaid me because I am innocent.

²¹ For I have followed the Lord's ways; I have not sinned by turning away from my God.

²² I have kept all his laws in mind; I have not ignored his commandments.

⁵ The sorowes of the graue haue compassed me about: the snares of death ouertooke me.

⁶ But in my trouble did I call vpon the Lord, and cryed vnto my God: he heard my voyce out of his Temple, and my crye did come before him, euen into his eares.

⁷ Then the earth trembled, and quaked: the foundations also of the mountaines mooued and shooke, because he was angrie.

⁸ Smoke went out at his nostrels, and a consuming fire out of his mouth: coales were kindled thereat.

⁹ He bowed the heauens also and came downe, and darkenes was vnder his feete.

¹⁰ And he rode vpon Cherub and did flie, and he came flying vpon the wings of the winde.

¹¹ He made darkenes his secrete place, and his pauilion round about him, euen darkenesse of waters, and cloudes of the ayre.

¹² At the brightnes of his presence his clouds passed, haylestones and coles of fire.

¹³ The Lord also thundred in the heauen, and the Highest gaue his voyce, haylestones and coales of fire.

¹⁴ Then hee sent out his arrowes and scattred them, and he increased lightnings and destroyed them.

¹⁵ And the chanels of waters were seene, and the foundations of the worlde were discouered at thy rebuking, O Lord, at the blasting of the breath of thy nostrels.

¹⁶ He hath sent downe from aboue and taken mee: hee hath drawen mee out of many waters.

¹⁷ He hath deliuered mee from my strong enemie, and from them which hate me: for they were too strong for me.

¹⁸ They preuented me in the day of my calamitie: but the Lord was my stay.

¹⁹ Hee brought mee foorth also into a large place: hee deliuered mee because hee fauoured me.

²⁰ The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousnes: according to the purenes of mine hands he recompensed me:

²¹ Because I kept the wayes of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God.

²² For all his Lawes were before mee, and I did not cast away his commandements from mee.

⁵ (18-6) The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of Death confronted me.

⁶ (18-7) In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God; out of His temple He heard my voice, and my cry came before Him unto His ears.

⁷ (18-8) Then the earth did shake and quake, the foundations also of the mountains did tremble; they were shaken, because He was wroth.

⁸ (18-9) Smoke arose up in His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth did devour; coals flamed forth from Him.

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever and ever: The judgments of the Lord are true, and justified altogether.

¹¹ To be desired more than gold, and much precious stone: Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹² For thy servant keeps to them: In the keeping of them there is great reward.

¹³ Who will understand his transgressions? Purge thou me from my secret sins.

¹⁴ And spare thy servant the attack of strangers: If they do not gain the dominion over me, then shall I be blameless, And I shall be clear from great sin.

¹⁵ So shall the sayings of my mouth, And the meditation of my heart, Be pleasing continually before thee, O Lord my helper, and my redeemer.

¹⁰ And he ascended on cherubim, and flew; he flew over the pens of winds. (And he went up on cherubim, and flew; yea, he flew upon the wings of the wind.)

¹¹ And he setted darknesses his hiding place, his tabernacle in his compass; and dark water was in the clouds of the air. (And he made the darkness his hiding place; and the clouds of the heavens, which were filled with water, surrounded him.)

¹² Full clear clouds passed in his sight; hail and the coals of fire.

¹³ And the Lord thundered from heaven; and the highest gave his voice, hail and coals of fire. (And the Lord thundered from the heavens; yea, the Most High sent forth his voice, and hail, and coals of fire.)

¹⁴ And he sent his arrows, and destroyed those men; he multiplied lightnings, and troubled those men.

¹⁵ And the wells of waters appeared; and the foundaments of the earth were showed. Lord, of thy blaming; of the breathing of the spirit of thine ire. (And the seabed appeared; and the foundations of the earth were uncovered. Yea, by the Lord’s rebuke; by the blast of the breath from his nostrils.)

¹⁶ He sent from the highest place, and took me; and he took me from many waters. (He reached down from the highest place, and took hold of me; yea, he took me out of the deep waters.)

¹⁷ He delivered me from my strongest enemies; and from them that hated me, for they were comforted on me. (He rescued me from my strongest enemies; yea, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.)

¹⁸ They came before me in the day of my torment; and the Lord was made my defender.

¹⁹ And he led out me into breadth; he made me safe, for he would me. (And he led me out into an open place; he saved me, for he delighted in me.)

²⁰ And the Lord shall yield to me by my rightfulness; and he shall yield to me by the cleanness of mine hands. (And the Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; he rewarded me according to the cleanness of my hands.)

²¹ For I (have) kept the ways of the Lord; and I did not (go away) unfaithfully from my God.

²² For all his dooms be in my sight; and I putted not away from me his rightfulnesses. (For all his laws were before me; and I did not go away from his commands.)

⁵ Cords of Sheol have surrounded me, Before me have been snares of death.

⁶ In mine adversity I call Jehovah, And unto my God I cry. He heareth from His temple my voice, And My cry before Him cometh into His ears.

⁷ And shake and tremble doth the earth, And foundations of hills are troubled, And they shake — because He hath wrath.

⁸ Gone up hath smoke by His nostrils, And fire from His mouth consumeth, Coals have been kindled by it.

⁹ And He inclineth the heavens, and cometh down, And thick darkness is under His feet.

¹⁰ And He rideth on a cherub, and doth fly, And He flieth on wings of wind.

¹¹ He maketh darkness His secret place, Round about Him His tabernacle, Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.

¹² From the brightness over-against Him His thick clouds have passed on, Hail and coals of fire.

¹³ And thunder in the heavens doth Jehovah, And the Most High giveth forth His voice, Hail and coals of fire.

¹⁴ And He sendeth His arrows and scattereth them, And much lightning, and crusheth them.

¹⁵ And seen are the streams of waters, And revealed are foundations of the earth. From Thy rebuke, O Jehovah, From the breath of the spirit of Thine anger.

¹⁶ He sendeth from above — He taketh me, He draweth me out of many waters.

¹⁷ He delivereth me from my strong enemy, And from those hating me, For they have been stronger than I.

¹⁸ They go before me in a day of my calamity And Jehovah is for a support to me.

¹⁹ And He bringeth me forth to a large place, He draweth me out, because He delighted in me.

²⁰ Jehovah doth recompense me According to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands, He doth return to me.

²¹ For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, And have not done wickedly against my God.

²² For all His judgments are before me, And His statutes I turn not from me.
