¹ A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry; Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

² Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; Let thine eyes look upon equity.

³ Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night; Thou hast tried me, and findest nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

⁴ As for the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the ways of the violent.

⁵ My steps have held fast to thy paths, My feet have not slipped.

⁶ I have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer me, O God: Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

⁷ Show thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them that take refuge in thee From those that rise up against them.

⁸ Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

⁹ From the wicked that oppress me, My deadly enemies, that compass me about.

¹⁰ They are inclosed in their own fat: With their mouth they speak proudly.

¹¹ They have now compassed us in our steps; They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.

¹² He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

¹ For the end, a Psalm of David the servant of the Lord; the words which he spoke to the Lord, even the words of this Song, in the day in which the Lord delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: and he said:

² I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.

³ The Lord is my firm support, and my refuge, and my deliverer; my God is my helper, I will hope in him; he is my defender, and the horn of my salvation, and my helper.

⁴ I will call upon the Lord with praises, and I shall be saved from mine enemies.

⁵ The pangs of death compassed me, and the torrents of ungodliness troubled me exceedingly.

⁶ The pangs of hell came round about me: the snares of death prevented me.

⁷ And when I was afflicted I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: he heard my voice out of his holy temple, and my cry shall enter before him, even into his ears.

⁸ Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains were disturbed, and were shaken, because God was angry with them.

⁹ There went up a smoke in his wrath, and fire burst into a flame at his presence: coals were kindled at it.

¹⁰ And he bowed the heaven, and came down: and thick darkness was under his feet.

¹¹ And he mounted on cherubs and flew: he flew on the wings of winds.

¹² And he made darkness his secret place: round about him was his tabernacle, even dark water in the clouds of the air.

¹ Yahweh, listen to me while I plead with you to act justly toward me. Hear me while I call out to you to help me. Pay attention to what I say while I pray because I am speaking MTY honestly/truthfully.

² You are the one who is able to declare that I ◄am innocent/have not done anything that was wrong► because you see/know that I am telling the truth.

³ You know what I think, even at night; you have examined what I say and do, and you know that I have determined to never tell any lies.

⁴ I have not done like others do; I have always done what is right IDM, and I have not acted cruelly toward others.

⁵ I have always done what you told me to do IDM, I have ◄never failed to do/always done► LIT those things.

⁶ O God, I pray to you because you answer me; please listen MTY to what I am saying.

⁷ Show me that you faithfully love me. By your great power MTY rescue those who ◄run to/trust in► you to protect them from their enemies.

⁸ Protect me as people carefully protect their own eyes; protect me like birds protect their babies under their wings MET.

⁹ Do not allow wicked people to attack me; my enemies surround me, wanting to kill me.

¹⁰ They never pity IDM anyone, and they are always boasting.

¹¹ They have hunted/searched for me and found me. They surround me, watching for an opportunity to throw me to the ground.

¹² They are like lions SIM that are ready to tear apart the animals that they capture; they are like young lions that are hiding, waiting to pounce on their prey.

⁶ My cry has gone up to you, for you will give me an answer, O God: let your ear be turned to me, and give attention to my words.

⁷ Make clear the wonder of your mercy, O saviour of those who put their faith in your right hand, from those who come out against them.

⁸ Keep me as the light of your eyes, covering me with the shade of your wings,

⁹ From the evil-doers who are violent to me, and from those who are round me, desiring my death.

¹⁰ They are shut up in their fat: with their mouths they say words of pride.

¹¹ They have made a circle round our steps: their eyes are fixed on us, forcing us down to the earth;

¹² Like a lion desiring its food, and like a young lion waiting in secret places.

³ Thou hast proved my heart, thou hast visited me by night; thou hast tried me, thou hast found nothing: my thought goeth not beyond my word.

⁴ Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept from the paths of the violent man.

⁵ When thou holdest my goings in thy paths, my footsteps slip not.

⁷ Shew wondrously thy loving-kindnesses, O thou that savest by thy right hand them that trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

¹⁰ They are enclosed in their own fat; with their mouth they speak proudly.

¹¹ They have now encompassed us in our steps; their eyes have they set, bowing down to the earth.

² I will love thee, O Lord, my strength:

⁸ The earth shook and trembled: the foundations of the mountains were troubled and were moved, because he was angry with them.

⁹ There went up a smoke in his wrath: and a fire flamed from his face: coals were kindled by it.

¹⁰ He bowed the heavens, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

¹¹ And he ascended upon the cherubim, and he flew; he flew upon the wings of the winds.

¹² And he made darkness his covert, his pavilion round about him: dark waters in the clouds of the air.

¹ A prayer of David. Lord, please hear my cry for justice! Please pay attention to my call for help! Listen to the prayer of an honest man!

² Vindicate me before you—for you see what is right.

³ You have observed my thoughts, you have visited me at night, you have examined me—and you have found nothing wrong. I promised myself I wouldn't say anything I shouldn't.

⁴ With regard to the actions of others: I have done what you told me and I have avoided what violent people do.

⁵ I have not strayed from your path; my feet have not slipped from it.

⁶ God, I call out to you because I know you will answer; please listen carefully to what I have to say.

⁷ Show me how wonderful your trustworthy love really is, Savior of those who come to you for protection against their enemies!

⁸ Keep me safe as someone you love; hide me underneath your wings.

⁹ Protect me from the attacks of the wicked who want to destroy me, from my enemies who surround me, intent on killing me.

¹⁰ They have no compassion, and all they have to say is pure arrogance.

¹¹ They hunt me down and surround me, looking for the chance to knock me down in the dust.

¹² They are like lions, longing to tear their prey apart; like fierce lions crouching in ambush.

¹ The prayer of Dauid. Heare the right, O Lord, consider my crye: hearken vnto my prayer of lips vnfained.

² Let my sentence come forth from thy presence, and let thine eyes beholde equitie.

³ Thou hast prooued and visited mine heart in the night: thou hast tryed me, and foundest nothing: for I was purposed that my mouth should not offend.

⁴ Concerning the workes of men, by the wordes of thy lips I kept mee from the paths of the cruell man.

⁵ Stay my steps in thy paths, that my feete doe not slide.

⁶ I haue called vpon thee: surely thou wilt heare me, O God: incline thine eare to me, and hearken vnto my wordes.

⁷ Shewe thy marueilous mercies, thou that art the Sauiour of them that trust in thee, from such as resist thy right hand.

¹⁰ They are enclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.

¹¹ On our steps they now encompass us: they direct their eyes to turn aside in the land.

¹² Every man is just like a lion that is greedy to tear his prey, and like a young lion lurking in a covert.

² May my sentence come forth from thy presence; May thine eyes behold uprightness!

³ Provest thou my heart, visitest thou me in the night, Triest thou me like gold, thou shalt find nothing!

⁴ My thoughts do not vary from my lips. As to the deeds of men, Through the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

⁵ Support my steps in thy paths, That my feet may not slip!

⁶ I call upon thee, O God! for thou wilt hear me; Incline thine ear to me, and listen to my prayer!

⁷ Show forth thy loving-kindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand Them that seek refuge in thee from their adversaries!

⁸ Guard me as the apple of the eye; Hide me under the shadow of thy wings

⁹ From the wicked who assault me, From my deadly enemies who compass me about!

¹⁰ They shut up their hard heart; With their mouth they speak haughtily.

¹¹ They encompass us in all our steps; They fix their eyes upon us, that they may cast us on the ground.

¹² They are like a lion, eager for his prey; Like a young lion, lurking in secret places.

¹ A prayer of David. Listen, O Lord, to my innocence; attend to my piercing cry. Give heed to my prayer out of lips unfeigned.

² Let my vindication come from you, your eyes see the truth.

³ When you test my heart when you visit at night, and assay me like silver — you can find no evil. I am determined that my mouth should not lie.

⁴ I gave earnest heed to the words of your lips.

⁵ My steps have held fast to the paths of your precepts and in your tracks have my feet never stumbled.

⁶ So I call you, O God, with assurance of answer; bend down your ear to me, hear what I say.

⁷ Show your marvellous love, you who save from enemies those who take refuge at your right hand.

⁸ Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me in the shelter of your wings.

⁹ From wicked people who do me violence, from deadly foes who crowd around me.

¹² They, as a lion made ready to his prey, have taken me; and as the whelp of a lion dwelling in hid places. (They be ready to catch me, like a lion catcheth its prey; and like the cub of a lion living in hidden places.)
