¹ A Psalm of David. Jehovah, I have called upon thee; make haste unto me: Give ear unto my voice, when I call unto thee.

² Let my prayer be set forth as incense before thee; The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

³ Set a watch, O Jehovah, before my mouth; Keep the door of my lips.

⁴ Incline not my heart to any evil thing, To practise deeds of wickedness With men that work iniquity: And let me not eat of their dainties.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me, it shall be a kindness; And let him reprove me, it shall be as oil upon the head; Let not my head refuse it: For even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.

⁶ Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; And they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

¹ A Psalm of instruction for David, when he was in the cave,—a Prayer.

² I cried to the Lord with my voice; with my voice I made supplication to the Lord.

³ I will pour out before him my supplication: I will declare before him mine affliction.

⁴ When my spirit was fainting within me, then thou knewest my paths; in the very way wherein I was walking, they hid a snare for me.

⁵ I looked on my right hand, and behold, for there was none that noticed me; refuge failed me; and there was none that cared for my soul.

⁶ I cried unto thee, O Lord, and said, Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me, it shall be a kindness; and let him reprove me, it shall be as oil upon the head; let not my head refuse it: for even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.

⁶ Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; and they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

¹ Yahweh, I call out to you; please help me quickly! Listen to me when I am calling to you.

² Accept my prayer as though it were incense being burned as an offering SIM to you. And accept me while I lift up my hands to pray to you like you accept sacrifices that I offer to you each evening SIM.

³ Yahweh, do not allow me to say MTY things that are wrong; guard my lips.

⁴ Prevent me from wanting to do anything that is wrong, and from joining with wicked men when they want to do evil deeds DOU. Do not even allow me to share in eating delightful food with them!

⁵ It is all right if righteous people strike/hit me or rebuke me because they are trying to act kindly toward me to teach me to do what is right, but I do not want wicked people to honor me by anointing my head with olive oil; I am always praying that you will punish them because of the wicked deeds that they do.

⁶ When their rulers are thrown down from the top of rocky cliffs, people will know that what you, Yahweh, said about them is true.

² Let my prayer be ordered before you like a sweet smell; and let the lifting up of my hands be like the evening offering.

³ O Lord, keep a watch over my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

⁴ Keep my heart from desiring any evil thing, or from taking part in the sins of the evil-doers with men who do wrong: and let me have no part in their good things.

⁵ Let the upright give me punishment; and let the god-fearing man put me in the right way; but I will not let the oil of sinners come on my head: when they do evil I will give myself to prayer.

⁶ When destruction comes to their judges by the side of the rock, they will give ear to my words, for they are sweet.

³ In his sight I pour out my prayer, and before him I declare my trouble:

⁴ When my spirit failed me, then thou newest my paths.

⁵ I looked on my right hand, and beheld, and there was no one that would know me. Flight hath failed me: and there is no one that hath regard to my soul.

⁶ I cried to thee, O Lord: I said: Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living.

¹ A psalm of David. Lord, I'm calling out to you! Please hurry up and help me! Please listen to me when I cry out to you!

² May my prayer be like incense before you, my uplifted hands like an evening offering.

³ Lord, make sure I don't say anything I shouldn't—keep a watch over my conversations.

⁴ Don't let me think about evil things or take part in doing anything wrong with wicked people. I won't join in eating fancy food at their feasts.

⁵ Let a good person punish me in love—let them correct me. It will be like an anointing—I won't refuse it. But I still pray against those who do evil.

⁶ They shall be thrown down by the power of the rock that judges them, and then they will recognize what I said was true!

² Let my prayer be directed in thy sight as incense, and the lifting vp of mine hands as an euening sacrifice.

³ Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keepe the doore of my lips.

⁴ Incline not mine heart to euill, that I should commit wicked workes with men that worke iniquitie: and let me not eate of their delicates.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me: for that is a benefite: and let him reprooue me, and it shalbe a precious oyle, that shall not breake mine head: for within a while I shall euen pray in their miseries.

⁶ When their iudges shall be cast downe in stonie places, they shall heare my wordes, for they are sweete.

³ Set a guard, O LORD, to my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.

⁴ Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to be occupied in deeds of wickedness with men that work iniquity; and let me not eat of their dainties.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me in kindness, and correct me; oil so choice let not my head refuse; for still is my prayer because of their wickedness.

⁶ Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; and they shall hear my words, that they are sweet.

⁶ Are their judges fallen down through means of a rock: then will they listen to my words; for they are pleasant.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me,—it shall be a kindness; Let him reprove me, and it shall be oil for my head; Let him do it again, and my head shall not refuse it; But now I pray against their wickedness!

⁶ When their judges are hurled over the side of the rock, They shall hear how pleasant are my words.

³ Yahweh, place a guard over my mouth; guard the door of my lips.

⁴ Do not let my heart desire any evil thing or participate in sinful activities with men who behave wickedly. May I not eat any of their delicacies.

⁵ Let a righteous man hit me; it will be a kindness to me. Let him correct me; it will be like oil on my head; may my head not refuse to accept it. But my prayer is always against their wicked deeds.

⁶ Their leaders will be thrown down from the top of cliffs; they will hear that my own words are pleasant.

² My prayer be dressed as incense in thy sight; the raising up of mine hands be as the eventide sacrifice.

³ Lord, set thou a keeping to my mouth; and a door of standing about to my lips.

⁴ Bow thou not down mine heart into words of malice; to excuse excusings in sin. With men working wickedness; and I shall not commune with the chosen men of them.

⁵ A just or rightwise man shall reprove me in mercy, and he shall blame me; but the oil of a sinner make not fat mine head. For why and yet my prayer is in the well pleasant or well pleased things of them;

⁶ for the doomsmen of them joined to the stone were sopped up. Hear they my words, for they were mighty.

¹ The psalm of David. (A song by David.) Lord, I cried to thee, hear thou me; give thou attention to my voice, when I shall cry to thee.

² My prayer be (ad)dressed as incense in thy sight; the raising up of mine hands be as the eventide sacrifice. (Let my prayer be directed before thee like incense; and let the raising up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.)

³ Lord, set thou a keeping to my mouth; and a door of standing about to my lips. (Lord, set thou a guard at my mouth; yea, a sentry at the door of my lips.)

⁴ Bow thou not down mine heart into words of malice; to excuse excusings in sin. With men working wickedness; and I shall not commune with the chosen men of them. (Help thou me not to turn my heart to words of malice; to make excuses for sins, and for those who do evil. I shall not commune with their chosen ones or I shall not feast with their chosen ones.)

⁵ A just man shall reprove me in mercy, and he shall blame me; but the oil of a sinner make not fat mine head. For why and yet my prayer is in the well pleasant things of them; (The righteous shall rebuke me in love, and they shall reproach me; but my head shall not be anointed with the oil of sinners. For my prayer is still against what is pleasing to them.)

⁶ for the doomsmen of them joined to the stone were sopped up. Hear they my words, for they were mighty. (And when their judges shall be thrown down from stony places, then the people shall listen to my words; for they be true.)

⁵ The righteous doth beat me in kindness. And doth reprove me, Oil of the head my head disalloweth not, For still my prayer is about their vexations.

⁶ Their judges have been released by the sides of a rock, And they have heard my sayings, For they have been pleasant.
