Psalms 140:6-12 in English

⁶ I said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: Give ear unto the voice of my supplications, O Jehovah.

⁷ O Jehovah the Lord, the strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

⁸ Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked; Further not his evil device, lest they exalt themselves. Selah

⁹ As for the head of those that compass me about, Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

¹⁰ Let burning coals fall upon them: Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, whence they shall not rise.

¹¹ An evil speaker shall not be established in the earth: Evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

¹² I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And justice for the needy.

⁶ Their mighty ones have been swallowed up near the rock: they shall hear my words, for they are sweet.

⁷ As a lump of earth is crushed upon the ground, our bones have been scattered by the mouth of the grave.

⁸ For mine eyes are to thee, O Lord God: I have hoped in thee; take not away my life.

⁹ Keep me from the snare which they have set for me, and from the stumbling-blocks of them that work iniquity.

¹⁰ Sinners shall fall by their own net: I am alone until I shall escape.

⁷ Yahweh, my Lord, you are the one who defends me strongly; you have protected me during battles MET as though you had put a helmet on my head.

⁸ Yahweh, do allow wicked people to do the things that they desire, and do not allow them to do the evil things that they plan to do.

⁹ Do not allow my enemies to ◄become proud/defeat me►; cause the evil things that they say MTY they will do to me to happen to them, instead.

¹⁰ Cause burning coals to fall on their heads! Cause them to be thrown into deep pits, from which they cannot climb out!

¹¹ Do not allow those who slander others to succeed; cause evil things to happen to violent men and destroy them!

¹² Yahweh, I know that you defend those who are oppressed, and that you do what is just/fair for those who are needy/poor.

⁹ As for those who come round me, let their heads be covered by the evil of their lips.

¹⁰ Let burning flames come down on them: let them be put into the fire, and into deep waters, so that they may not get up again.

¹¹ Let not a man of evil tongue be safe on earth: let destruction overtake the violent man with blow on blow.

¹² I am certain that the Lord will take care of the cause of the poor, and of the rights of those who are troubled.

⁶ Their judges falling upon the rock have been swallowed up. They shall hear my words, for they have prevailed:

⁷ As when the thickness of the earth is broken up upon the ground: Our bones are scattered by the side of hell.

⁸ But o to thee, O Lord, Lord, are my eyes: in thee have I put my trust, take not away my soul.

⁹ Keep me from the snare, which they have laid for me, and from the stumblingblocks of them that work iniquity.

¹⁰ The wicked shall fall in his net: I am alone until I pass.

⁶ I told the Lord, “You are my God! Lord, please listen to my cries for help!”

⁷ Lord God, my powerful Savior, you covered my head like a helmet on the day of battle.

⁸ God, don't allow the wicked to get what they want—don't let them be successful in what they plan so they don't become proud. Selah.

⁹ May the harm spoken against me by those who surround me fall back on them,

¹⁰ Let burning coals rain down on them! Let them be thrown into the fire, or into bottomless pits, never to rise again.

¹¹ Don't let people who slander others live in our land. May disaster strike down violent people.

¹² Yet I know the Lord defends the rights of those who are persecuted, and gives justice to the poor.

⁶ Therefore I saide vnto the Lord, Thou art my God: heare, O Lord, the voyce of my prayers.

⁷ O Lord God the strength of my saluation, thou hast couered mine head in the day of battel.

⁸ Let not the wicked haue his desire, O Lord: performe not his wicked thought, least they be proude. Selah.

⁹ As for the chiefe of them, that compasse me about, let the mischiefe of their owne lippes come vpon them.

¹⁰ Let coles fal vpon them: let him cast them into the fire, and into the deepe pits, that they rise not.

¹¹ For the backbiter shall not be established vpon the earth: euill shall hunt the cruell man to destruction.

¹² I know that the Lord will auenge the afflicted, and iudge the poore.

⁷ (140-8) O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, who hast screened my head in the day of battle,

⁸ (140-9) Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; further not his evil device, so that they exalt themselves. Selah

⁹ (140-10) As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

¹⁰ (140-11) Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire, into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

¹¹ (140-12) A slanderer shall not be established in the earth; the violent and evil man shall be hunted with thrust upon thrust.

¹² (140-13) I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the poor, and the right of the needy.

¹¹ The slanderer shall not be established upon the earth; Evil shall pursue the violent man to destruction.

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And the right of the poor.

⁷ O Lord my Lord, my saviour mighty, you did cover my head in the day of battle.

⁸ Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; and what they have purposed, promote you not.” Selah

⁹ Let them not lift up their heads against me. May the mischief they prate bring themselves to destruction,

¹⁰ may he rain upon them coals of fire, may he strike them down swiftly, to rise no more,

¹¹ no place in the land may there be for the slanderer: may the violent be hunted from sorrow to sorrow.

¹⁰ Coals shall fall on them, thou shalt cast them down into fire; into wretchednesses where they shall not be able to stand.

¹¹ A man that is a great jangler shall not be dressed or rightforth ruled in earth; evils shall take an unjust man into perishing.

¹² I have known, that the Lord shall make doom of a needy man; and the vengeance of poor men.

⁶ I said to the Lord, Thou art my God; Lord, hear thou the voice of my beseeching, (or Lord, hear thou the words of my plea).

⁷ Lord, Lord, the virtue of mine health; thou madest shadow on mine head in the day of battle. (Lord, Lord, my strong salvation or my strong deliverance; thou madest a shadow upon my head on the day of battle.)

⁸ Lord, betake thou not me from my desire to the sinner; they thought against me, forsake thou not me, lest peradventure they be enhanced. (Lord, do not thou deliver me unto the desires of the sinners; they have planned to harm me, so abandon thou me not, lest they gain an advantage over me.)

⁹ The head of the compass of them; the travail of their lips shall cover them. (As for the leaders of those who surround me; let the treachery of their own lips ensnare them.)

¹⁰ Coals shall fall on them, thou shalt cast them down into fire; in(to) wretchednesses (where) they shall not (be able to) stand. (Let burning coals fall upon them, and be they thrown down into the fire; yea, into a wretchedness from which they shall never be able to escape.)

¹¹ A man that is a great jangler shall not be (well-)directed in earth, (or A man who is a great gossip, or a slanderer, shall not be successful in the world); evils shall take an unjust man in(to) perishing.

¹² I have known, that the Lord shall make doom of a needy man; and the vengeance of poor men. (I know, that the Lord shall make judgement in favour of the needy; and he shall take vengeance for the poor.)

⁹ The chief of my surrounders, The perverseness of their lips covereth them.

¹⁰ They cause to fall on themselves burning coals, Into fire He doth cast them, Into deep pits — they arise not.

¹¹ A talkative man is not established in the earth, One of violence — evil hunteth to overflowing.

¹² I have known that Jehovah doth execute The judgment of the afflicted, The judgment of the needy.
