¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; Preserve me from the violent man:

² Who devise mischiefs in their heart; Continually do they gather themselves together for war.

³ They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; Adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah

⁴ Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from the violent man: Who have purposed to thrust aside my steps.

⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set gins for me. Selah

⁶ I said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: Give ear unto the voice of my supplications, O Jehovah.

⁷ O Jehovah the Lord, the strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

⁸ Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked; Further not his evil device, lest they exalt themselves. Selah

⁹ As for the head of those that compass me about, Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

¹⁰ Let burning coals fall upon them: Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, whence they shall not rise.

² Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice.

³ Set a watch, O Lord, on my mouth, and a strong door about my lips.

⁴ Incline not my heart to evil things, to employ pretexts for sins, with men who work iniquity: and let me not unite with their choice ones.

⁵ The righteous shall chasten me with mercy, and reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner anoint my head: for yet shall my prayer also be in their pleasures.

⁶ Their mighty ones have been swallowed up near the rock: they shall hear my words, for they are sweet.

⁷ As a lump of earth is crushed upon the ground, our bones have been scattered by the mouth of the grave.

⁸ For mine eyes are to thee, O Lord God: I have hoped in thee; take not away my life.

⁹ Keep me from the snare which they have set for me, and from the stumbling-blocks of them that work iniquity.

¹⁰ Sinners shall fall by their own net: I am alone until I shall escape.

¹ Yahweh, rescue/save me from being attacked by evil men; and even more, ◄keep me safe/protect me► from being attacked by violent people.

² They are always planning to do evil things and they are always inciting/urging people to start quarrels.

³ By what they say MTY they injure people like poisonous snakes do; the words that they speak MTY can kill people as easily as cobras/vipers do.

⁴ Yahweh, protect me from the power MTY of wicked people. Keep me safe from violent men who plan to destroy me SYN.

⁵ It is as though proud people have set a trap for me; it is as though they have spread their nets to catch me; it is as though they have put those things along the road to catch/seize me.

⁶ I say to you, “Yahweh, you are my God;” so listen to me while I cry out to you to help me.

⁷ Yahweh, my Lord, you are the one who defends me strongly; you have protected me during battles MET as though you had put a helmet on my head.

⁸ Yahweh, do allow wicked people to do the things that they desire, and do not allow them to do the evil things that they plan to do.

⁹ Do not allow my enemies to ◄become proud/defeat me►; cause the evil things that they say MTY they will do to me to happen to them, instead.

¹⁰ Cause burning coals to fall on their heads! Cause them to be thrown into deep pits, from which they cannot climb out!

² For their hearts are full of evil designs; and they are ever making ready causes of war.

³ Their tongues are sharp like the tongue of a snake; the poison of snakes is under their lips. (Selah.)

⁴ O Lord, take me out of the hands of sinners; keep me safe from the violent man: for they are designing my downfall.

⁵ The men of pride have put secret cords for my feet; stretching nets in my way, so that they may take me with their tricks. (Selah.)

⁶ I have said to the Lord, You are my God: give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my prayer.

⁷ O Lord God, the strength of my salvation, you have been a cover over my head in the day of the fight.

⁸ O Lord, give not the wrongdoer his desire; give him no help in his evil designs, or he may be uplifted in pride. (Selah.)

⁹ As for those who come round me, let their heads be covered by the evil of their lips.

¹⁰ Let burning flames come down on them: let them be put into the fire, and into deep waters, so that they may not get up again.

² Who devise mischiefs in their heart; every day are they banded together for war.

³ They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.

⁴ Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked man, preserve me from the violent man, who devise to overthrow my steps.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way-side; they have set traps for me. Selah.

¹ I have cried to the, O Lord, hear me: hearken to my voice, when I cry to thee.

² Let my prayer be directed as incense in thy sight; the lifting up of my hands, as evening sacrifice.

³ Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips.

⁴ Incline not my heart to evil words; to make excuses in sins. With men that work iniquity: and I will not communicate with the choicest of them.

⁵ The just shall correct me in mercy, and shall reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner fatten my head. For my prayer also shall still be against the things with which they are well pleased:

⁶ Their judges falling upon the rock have been swallowed up. They shall hear my words, for they have prevailed:

⁷ As when the thickness of the earth is broken up upon the ground: Our bones are scattered by the side of hell.

⁸ But o to thee, O Lord, Lord, are my eyes: in thee have I put my trust, take not away my soul.

⁹ Keep me from the snare, which they have laid for me, and from the stumblingblocks of them that work iniquity.

¹⁰ The wicked shall fall in his net: I am alone until I pass.

¹ For the music director. A psalm of David. Lord, please save me from those who do evil; protect me especially from those who are violent!

² Their minds are busy plotting evil things, stirring up trouble all day long.

³ Their tongues are as sharp as those of snakes; viper's venom is on their lips. Selah.

⁴ Lord, please keep me from falling into the hands of the wicked; protect me especially from those who are violent, who are plotting my downfall.

⁵ Proud people have hidden a trap for me—they have strung out a net on the path, they have set snares to catch me. Selah.

⁶ I told the Lord, “You are my God! Lord, please listen to my cries for help!”

⁷ Lord God, my powerful Savior, you covered my head like a helmet on the day of battle.

⁸ God, don't allow the wicked to get what they want—don't let them be successful in what they plan so they don't become proud. Selah.

⁹ May the harm spoken against me by those who surround me fall back on them,

¹⁰ Let burning coals rain down on them! Let them be thrown into the fire, or into bottomless pits, never to rise again.

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme of David. Deliuer me, O Lord, from the euill man: preserue me from the cruel man:

² Which imagine euill things in their heart, and make warre continually.

³ They haue sharpened their tongues like a serpent: adders poyson is vnder their lips. Selah.

⁴ Keepe mee, O Lord, from the handes of the wicked: preserue mee from the cruell man, which purposeth to cause my steppes to slide.

⁵ The proude haue layde a snare for me, and spred a nette with cordes in my pathway, and set grennes for me. Selah.

⁶ Therefore I saide vnto the Lord, Thou art my God: heare, O Lord, the voyce of my prayers.

⁷ O Lord God the strength of my saluation, thou hast couered mine head in the day of battel.

⁸ Let not the wicked haue his desire, O Lord: performe not his wicked thought, least they be proude. Selah.

¹⁰ Let coles fal vpon them: let him cast them into the fire, and into the deepe pits, that they rise not.

⁴ (140:5) Preserve me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, from the man of violence do thou keep me, who think of overthrowing my steps.

⁵ (140:6) The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the side of my track; traps have they set for me. Selah.

⁴ Defend me, O LORD! from the hands of the wicked, Preserve me from the man of violence, Who have purposed to cause my fall! Pause.

⁵ The proud have hidden snares and cords for me; They have spread a net by the way-side; They have set traps for me.

⁶ I say to Jehovah, Thou art my God; Hear, O Jehovah! the voice of my supplication!

⁷ The Lord Jehovah is my saving strength: Thou shelterest my head in the day of battle!

⁸ Grant not, O LORD! the desires of the wicked; Let not their devices prosper; Let them not exalt themselves!

⁹ As for the heads of those who encompass me, Let the mischief of their own lips cover them!

¹⁰ Let burning coals fall upon them; May they be cast into the fire, And into deep waters from which they shall not arise!

¹ Rescue me, Lord, from evil people; from the violent guard me

² from those who plot evil in their heart, and stir up war continually:

³ who make their tongue as sharp as a serpent's, and under whose lips is the poison of adders. Selah

⁴ Preserve me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, from the violent guard me from those who are plotting to trip up my feet.

⁵ The proud have hidden a trap for me, cords they have spread as a net for my feet: snares they have set at the side of my track. Selah

⁶ I have said to the Lord, “My God are you; give ear, Lord, to my loud plea.

⁷ O Lord my Lord, my saviour mighty, you did cover my head in the day of battle.

⁸ Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; and what they have purposed, promote you not.” Selah

⁹ Let them not lift up their heads against me. May the mischief they prate bring themselves to destruction,

¹⁰ may he rain upon them coals of fire, may he strike them down swiftly, to rise no more,

¹ Rescue me, Lord, from evil people; from the violent guard me

² from those who plot evil in their heart, and stir up war continually:

³ who make their tongue as sharp as a serpent's, and under whose lips is the poison of adders. Selah

⁷ Yahweh, my Lord, you are powerfully able to save me; you shield my head in the day of battle.

⁸ Yahweh, do not grant the desires of the wicked; do not let their plots succeed. Selah

⁹ Those who surround me raise their heads; let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them; throw them into the fire, into bottomless pits, never more to rise.

² those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war.

³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. Selah.

⁴ Yahweh, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

⁶ I said to Yahweh, “You are my God.” Listen to the cry of my petitions, Yahweh.

⁷ Yahweh, the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.

⁸ Yahweh, don’t grant the desires of the wicked. Don’t let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah.

⁹ As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

⁸ Lord, betake thou not me from my desire to the sinner; they thought against me, forsake thou not me, lest peradventure they be enhanced.

¹⁰ Coals shall fall on them, thou shalt cast them down into fire; into wretchednesses where they shall not be able to stand.

² Which thought wickednesses in the heart; all day they ordained battles. (Who always think in their hearts about doing wicked things; who plan out battles all day long or day after day.)

³ They sharpened their tongues as serpents; the venom of snakes is under the lips of them. (Their tongues be sharp like the fangs of serpents; the venom of snakes is on their lips.)

⁴ Lord, keep thou me from the hand of the sinner; and deliver thou me from wicked men. Which thought to deceive my goings; (Lord, keep thou me safe from the power of the sinner; and save thou me from the wicked, from those who think out ways to thwart my progress.)

⁵ proud men hid a snare to me. And they laid forth cords into a snare; they setted (a) trap to me beside the way. (Proud people hid a snare for me, yea, they laid out cords for a snare; they set a trap for me along the way.)

⁶ I said to the Lord, Thou art my God; Lord, hear thou the voice of my beseeching, (or Lord, hear thou the words of my plea).

⁷ Lord, Lord, the virtue of mine health; thou madest shadow on mine head in the day of battle. (Lord, Lord, my strong salvation or my strong deliverance; thou madest a shadow upon my head on the day of battle.)

⁸ Lord, betake thou not me from my desire to the sinner; they thought against me, forsake thou not me, lest peradventure they be enhanced. (Lord, do not thou deliver me unto the desires of the sinners; they have planned to harm me, so abandon thou me not, lest they gain an advantage over me.)

⁹ The head of the compass of them; the travail of their lips shall cover them. (As for the leaders of those who surround me; let the treachery of their own lips ensnare them.)

¹⁰ Coals shall fall on them, thou shalt cast them down into fire; in(to) wretchednesses (where) they shall not (be able to) stand. (Let burning coals fall upon them, and be they thrown down into the fire; yea, into a wretchedness from which they shall never be able to escape.)

¹ To the Overseer. — A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O Jehovah, from an evil man, From one of violence Thou keepest me.

² Who have devised evils in the heart, All the day they assemble for wars.

³ They sharpened their tongue as a serpent, Poison of an adder is under their lips. Selah.

⁴ Preserve me, Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked, From one of violence Thou keepest me, Who have devised to overthrow my steps.

⁵ The proud hid a snare for me — and cords, They spread a net by the side of the path, Snares they have set for me. Selah.

⁶ I have said to Jehovah, 'My God art Thou, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of my supplications.'

⁷ O Jehovah, my Lord, strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of armour.

⁸ Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked, His wicked device bring not forth, They are high. Selah.

⁹ The chief of my surrounders, The perverseness of their lips covereth them.
