² Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up: Yet they have not prevailed against me.

³ The plowers plowed upon my back; They made long their furrows.

⁴ Jehovah is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

⁵ Let them be put to shame and turned backward, All they that hate Zion.

⁶ Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth before it groweth up;

⁷ Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand, Nor he that bindeth sheaves, his bosom:

⁸ Neither do they that go by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you; We bless you in the name of Jehovah.

² O Lord, hearken to my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

³ If thou, O Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

⁴ For with thee is forgiveness: for thy name's sake

⁵ have I waited for thee, O Lord, my soul has waited for thy word.

⁶ My soul has hoped in the Lord; from the morning watch till night.

⁷ Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

⁸ And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

² “Our enemies have afflicted us since our nation began, but they have not defeated us!

³ Our enemies struck us with whips that cut into our backs MET like a farmer uses a plow to cut deep furrows into the ground.”

⁴ But Yahweh is righteous, and he has freed me from being a slave MTY of wicked people.

⁵ I wish/hope that all those who hate Jerusalem/Israel will be ashamed because of being defeated.

⁶ I hope/wish that they will be of no value, like grass that grows on the roofs of houses that dries up and does not grow tall;

⁷ as a result no one cuts it and puts it in bundles and carries it away.

⁸ People who pass by and see men harvesting grain usually greet them by saying to them, “We wish/hope that Yahweh will bless you!” But this will not happen to those who hate Israel. We, acting as Yahweh's representatives, bless you Israelis.

⁴ The Lord is true: the cords of the evil-doers are broken in two.

⁵ Let all the haters of Zion be shamed and turned back.

⁶ Let them be like the grass on the house-tops, which is dry before it comes to full growth.

⁷ He who gets in the grain has no use for it; and they do not make bands of it for the grain-stems.

⁸ And those who go by do not say, The blessing of the Lord be on you; we give you blessing in the name of the Lord.

² Lord, hear my voice. Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

³ If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it.

⁴ For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on his word:

⁵ My soul hath hoped in the Lord.

⁶ From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.

⁷ Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption.

⁸ And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

² Many enemies have attacked from the time I was young, but they never defeated me.

³ They beat me on my back, leaving long furrows as if it had been ploughed by a farmer.

⁴ But the Lord does what is right: he has cut me free from the ropes of the wicked.

⁵ May everyone who hates Zion be driven back in humiliating defeat.

⁶ May they be like grass that grows on a roof that withers before it can be harvested,

⁷ There's not enough even for a reaper to hold, not enough even for the binder to bind.

⁸ May passers-by not say to them, “The blessing of the Lord be on you; we bless you in the name of the Lord.”

² They haue often times afflicted me from my youth: but they could not preuaile against me.

³ The plowers plowed vpon my backe, and made long furrowes.

⁴ But the righteous Lord hath cut the cordes of the wicked.

⁵ They that hate Zion, shalbe all ashamed and turned backward.

⁶ They shalbe as the grasse on the house tops, which withereth afore it commeth forth.

⁷ Whereof the mower filleth not his hand, neither the glainer his lap:

⁸ Neither they, which go by, say, The blessing of the Lord be vpon you, or, We blesse you in the Name of the Lord.

² “Often since my youth they have attacked me, yet they have not defeated me.

³ The plowers plowed on my back; they made their furrows long.

⁴ Yahweh is righteous; he has cut the ropes of the wicked.”

⁵ May they all be put to shame and turned back, those who hate Zion.

⁶ May they be like the grass on the housetops that withers before it grows up,

⁷ that cannot fill the reaper's hand or the chest of the one who binds bundles of grain together.

⁸ May those who pass by not say, “May the blessing of Yahweh be on you; we bless you in the name of Yahweh.”

³ Sinners forged on my back; they made long their wickedness.

⁴ The Lord is just or rightwise, he shall beat the nolls of sinners;

⁵ all that hate Zion be they shamed, and turned aback.

⁶ Be they made as the hay of housetops; that dried up, before that it be drawn up.

⁷ Of which hay he that shall reap, shall not fill his hand; and he that shall gather handfuls, shall not fill his bosom.

⁸ And they that passed forth said not, The blessing of the Lord be on you; we blessed you in the name of the Lord.

² Oft they have fought against me from my youth; and soothly they might not to me (Yea, they have often fought against me from my youth; but truly they could never overcome me.)

³ Sinners forged on my back; they made long their wickedness. (The sinners scourged my back; they made their furrows deep and long in me.)

⁴ The Lord is just, (he) shall beat (together) the nolls of sinners; (But the Lord is just, and he shall free me from the bonds of the wicked;)

⁵ all that hate Zion be they shamed, and turned aback. (let all who hate Zion be put to shame, and be turned, or driven, back.)

⁶ Be they made as the hay of housetops; that dried up, before that it be drawn up. (Be they made like the grass on the rooftops; it dried up, before that it could be pulled up.)

⁷ Of which hay he that shall reap, shall not fill his hand; and he that shall gather handfuls, shall not fill his bosom. (Of which grass he who shall reap, shall not get a handful; and he who shall gather handfuls, shall not get an armful.)

⁸ And they that passed forth said not, The blessing of the Lord be on you; we blessed you in the name of the Lord. (And so they who pass by, shall never say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you; we bless you in the name of the Lord.)

² Often they distressed me from my youth, Yet they have not prevailed over me.

³ Over my back have ploughers ploughed, They have made long their furrows.

⁴ Jehovah is righteous, He hath cut asunder cords of the wicked.

⁵ Confounded and turn backward do all hating Zion.

⁶ They are as grass of the roofs, That before it was drawn out withereth,

⁷ That hath not filled the hand of a reaper, And the bosom of a binder of sheaves.

⁸ And the passers by have not said, 'The blessing of Jehovah is on you, We blessed you in the Name of Jehovah!'
