Psalms 123:2-4 in English

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid unto the hand of her mistress; So our eyes look unto Jehovah our God, Until he have mercy upon us.

³ Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us; For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled With the scoffing of those that are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.

² if it had not been that the Lord was among us, when men rose up against us;

³ verily they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us:

⁴ verily the water would have drowned us, our soul would have gone under the torrent.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

² Like servants ask IDM their masters for what they need and like maids ask t their mistresses for what they need, we ask you, Yahweh our God, for what we need, and we ask you to be merciful to us.

³ Yahweh, be very merciful DOU to us because our enemies have acted very contemptuously toward us.

⁴ Rich people have made fun of us for a long time, and proud people who have ◄oppressed/acted cruelly toward► us have acted toward us as though we were worthless.

² See! as the eyes of servants are turned to the hands of their masters, and the eyes of a servant-girl to her owner, so our eyes are waiting for the Lord our God, till he has mercy on us.

³ Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: for all men are looking down on us.

⁴ For long enough have men of pride made sport of our soul.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are directed to Jehovah our God, until he be gracious unto us.

³ Be gracious unto us, O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

² If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us,

³ Perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us,

⁴ Perhaps the waters had swallowed us up.

² Just as servants look to their master, or a maid looks to her mistress, so we keep our eyes on you, Lord our God, waiting for you to be merciful to us.

³ Please have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy. We've had enough of people's contempt.

⁴ We've had more than enough of the scorn of the proud, and the contempt of the arrogant.

² Behold, as the eyes of seruants looke vnto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a mayden vnto the hand of her mistres: so our eyes waite vpon the Lord our God vntil he haue mercie vpon vs.

³ Haue mercie vpon vs, O Lord, haue mercie vpon vs: for we haue suffered too much contempt.

⁴ Our soule is filled too full of ye mocking of the wealthy, and of the despitefulnes of the proude.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants unto the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look unto the LORD our God, until He be gracious unto us.

³ Be gracious unto us, O LORD, be gracious unto us; for we are full sated with contempt.

⁴ Our soul is full sated with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud oppressors.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, And as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; So our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, Until that he have mercy upon us.

³ Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants are directed unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: thus are our eyes directed unto the Lord our God, until he be gracious unto us.

³ Be gracious unto us, O Lord! be gracious unto us; for we are overburdened with contempt.

⁴ Our soul is overburdened with the scorn of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud oppressors.

² If it had not been that the Lord was among us, When men rose up against us;

³ Verily they would have swallowed us up alive, When their wrath was kindled against us:

⁴ Verily the water would have drowned us, Our soul would have gone under the torrent.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, And as the eyes of a maiden to the hand of her mistress, So do our eyes look to the LORD, our God, Until he have pity upon us.

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD! have mercy upon us, For we are overwhelmed with contempt!

⁴ Our soul is filled to the full with the scorn of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.

² As the eyes of a servant turn to the hand of his master, or the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so do our eyes turn to the Lord our God, until he is gracious to us.

³ Be gracious, be gracious to us, Lord. Scorn enough, and more, have we borne

⁴ More than enough have we borne of derision from those at their ease, of scorn from those who are haughty.

² As the eyes of a servant turn to the hand of his master, or the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so do our eyes turn to the Lord our God, until he is gracious to us.

³ Be gracious, be gracious to us, Lord. Scorn enough, and more, have we borne

⁴ More than enough have we borne of derision from those at their ease, of scorn from those who are haughty.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to Adonai , our God, until he has mercy on us.

³ Have mercy on us, Adonai , have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

² See, as the eyes of servants look to their master's hand, as the eyes of a maid look to her mistress's hand, so our eyes look to Yahweh our God until he has mercy on us.

³ Have mercy on us, Yahweh, have mercy on us, for we are filled with humiliation.

⁴ We are more than full of the scoffing of the insolent and with the contempt of the proud.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to Yahweh, our God, until he has mercy on us.

³ Have mercy on us, Yahweh, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.

³ Lord, have thou mercy on us, have thou mercy on us; for we be much filled with despising.

⁴ For our soul is much filled; we be shame to them that be abundant with riches, and despising to proud men.

² Lo! as the eyes of servants be in the hands of their lords. As the eyes of the handmaid be in the hands of her lady; so our eyes be to our Lord God, till he have mercy on us. (Behold! like the eyes of the servant (look) to the hand of his lord; and like the eyes of the servantess (look) to the hand of her lady; so let our eyes (look) to the Lord our God, until he have mercy upon us.)

³ Lord, have thou mercy on us, have thou mercy on us; for we be much filled with despising (or for we be greatly despised).

⁴ For our soul is much filled; we be shame to them that be abundant with riches, and despising to proud men. (For our soul is filled full, with the scorn of those who have abundant riches; and with disdain from the proud.)

² Lo, as eyes of men-servants Are unto the hand of their masters, As eyes of a maid-servant Are unto the hand of her mistress, So are our eyes unto Jehovah our God, Till that He doth favour us.

³ Favour us, O Jehovah, favour us, For greatly have we been filled with contempt,

⁴ Greatly hath our soul been filled With the scorning of the easy ones, With the contempt of the arrogant!
