⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, Nor slumber to thine eyelids;

⁵ Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, And as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; Consider her ways, and be wise:

⁷ Which having no chief, Overseer, or ruler,

⁸ Provideth her bread in the summer, And gathereth her food in the harvest.

⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man.

¹² A worthless person, a man of iniquity, Is he that walketh with a perverse mouth;

¹³ That winketh with his eyes, that speaketh with his feet, That maketh signs with his fingers;

¹⁴ In whose heart is perverseness, Who deviseth evil continually, Who soweth discord.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; On a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.

¹⁶ There are six things which Jehovah hateth; Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:

⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber with thine eyelids;

⁵ that thou mayest deliver thyself as a doe out of the toils, and as a bird out of a snare.

⁶ Go to the ant, O sluggard; and see, and emulate his ways, and become wiser than he.

⁷ For whereas he has no husbandry, nor any one to compel him, and is under no master,

⁸ he prepares food for himself in the summer, and lays by abundant store in harvest.

^8a Or go to the bee, and learn how diligent she is, and how earnestly she is engaged in her work;

¹¹ Then poverty comes upon thee as an evil traveller, and want as a swift courier:

^11a but if thou be diligent, thine harvest shall arrive as a fountain, and poverty shall flee away as a bad courier.

¹² A foolish man and a transgressor goes in ways that are not good.

⁵ Save yourself, like a deer that escapes from a deer hunter or like a bird that flees from a bird hunter.

⁶ You lazy individual, learn something from watching the ants. Become wise from observing what they do.

⁷ They do not have a king or a governor or any other person who rules them and forces them to work,

⁸ but they work hard all during the summer, gathering and storing food to eat during the winter.

⁹ But, you lazy loafer, how long will you continue to sleep RHQ? Are you never going to get up from sleeping and go to work?

¹⁰ You sleep a for a little time; you say, “I will take just a short nap.” You lie down and fold/lay your hands across your chest and rest;

¹¹ and suddenly you will become poor. It will be as though a bandit suddenly comes and takes all that you have.

¹² I will describe for you what worthless and evil people are like. They constantly lie;

¹³ by winking their eyes and moving their feet and making signs with their fingers, they signal to their friends what they are intending/planning to do.

¹⁴ They plan to do evil things. They constantly cause strife/trouble.

¹⁵ But disasters will hit them suddenly; they will be crushed/ruined and nothing will be able to heal them.

¹⁶ There are six, maybe seven, kinds of people that Yahweh hates. They are:

⁴ Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber with your eyelids;

⁵ that you may deliver yourself as a doe out of the toils, and as a bird out of a snare.

⁶ Go to the ant, O sluggard; and see, and emulate his ways, and become wiser than he.

⁹ How long will you be sleeping, O hater of work? when will you get up from your sleep?

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little rest, a little folding of the hands in sleep:

¹¹ Then loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man

¹² A good-for-nothing man is an evil-doer; he goes on his way causing trouble with false words;

¹³ Making signs with his eyes, rubbing with his feet, and giving news with his fingers;

¹⁴ His mind is ever designing evil: he lets loose violent acts.

¹⁵ For this cause his downfall will be sudden; quickly he will be broken, and there will be no help for him.

¹⁶ Six things are hated by the Lord; seven things are disgusting to him:

⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids:

⁵ deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise:

⁷ which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,

⁸ provideth her bread in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

⁹ How long, sluggard, wilt thou lie down? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

¹² A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth;

¹⁴ deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy.

¹⁶ These six things doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

⁴ Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.

⁵ Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?

¹⁰ Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:

¹¹ And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.

¹² A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,

¹³ He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.

¹⁴ With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.

¹⁵ To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.

¹⁶ Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:

⁴ Don't delay, saying that you'll sleep on it. Don't rest until you've done it.

⁵ Get out of it like a gazelle escaping from a trap, like a bird from a bird-catcher's net.

⁶ Go and observe the ants, you slacker! Learn from what they do and become wise.

⁷ They don't have a leader, an officer, or a ruler,

⁸ yet they work hard during the summer getting their food, gathering what they need during the harvest.

⁹ So how long are you going to lie there, you slacker? When are you going to get up from your sleep?

¹⁰ You may say, “Please, just a little more sleep, a little longer snooze, a little more folding of the arms to rest”—

¹¹ and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.

¹² Rebellious and wicked people go around telling lies,

¹³ winking slyly, giving sneaky foot gestures, rudely pointing with their fingers.

¹⁴ Their warped minds plot evil schemes; they're always causing trouble.

¹⁵ As a result, disaster falls suddenly on such people; in just a moment they're destroyed without hope of healing.

¹⁶ There are six things that the Lord hates, seven things that he absolutely detests:

⁴ Giue no sleepe to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

⁵ Deliuer thy selfe as a doe from the hande of the hunter, and as a birde from the hande of the fouler.

⁶ Goe to the pismire, O sluggarde: beholde her waies, and be wise.

⁷ For shee hauing no guide, gouernour, nor ruler,

⁸ Prepareth her meat in the sommer, and gathereth her foode in haruest.

⁹ Howe long wilt thou sleepe, O sluggarde? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleepe?

¹⁰ Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the hands to sleepe.

¹¹ Therefore thy pouertie commeth as one that trauaileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.

¹² The vnthriftie man and the wicked man walketh with a froward mouth.

¹³ He maketh a signe with his eyes: he signifieth with his feete: he instructeth with his fingers.

¹⁴ Lewde things are in his heart: he imagineth euill at all times, and raiseth vp contentions.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his destruction come speedily: hee shall be destroyed suddenly without recouerie.

¹⁶ These sixe things doeth the Lord hate: yea, his soule abhorreth seuen:

⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

¹² A Godless person is a man of injustice, who walketh with a distorted mouth.

¹³ He blinketh with his eyes, he scrapeth with his feet, he pointeth with his fingers;

¹⁴ Perverseness is in his heart, he contriveth evil at all times; he scattereth abroad discord.

¹⁵ Therefore shall suddenly come his calamity: unawares shalt he be broken without a remedy.

¹² A worthless wretch is the unrighteous man, Who walketh with a deceitful mouth;

¹³ Who winketh with his eyes, Speaketh with his feet, And teacheth with his fingers.

¹⁴ Fraud is in his heart; He deviseth mischief continually; He scattereth contentions.

¹⁵ Therefore shall calamity come upon him suddenly; In a moment shall he be destroyed, and that without remedy;

¹⁶ These six things doth the LORD hate; Yea, seven are an abomination to him:

⁴ Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber.

⁵ Save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

⁶ Look at the ant, you lazy person, consider her ways, and be wise.

⁷ It has no commander, officer, or ruler,

⁸ yet it prepares its food in the summer and during the harvest it stores up what it will eat.

⁹ How long will you sleep, you lazy person? When will you rise from your sleep?

¹⁰ “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest”—

¹¹ and your poverty will come like a robber and your needs like an armed soldier.

¹² A worthless person—a wicked man— lives by the crookedness of his speech,

¹³ winking his eyes, making signals with his feet and pointing with his fingers.

¹⁴ He plots evil with deceit in his heart; he always stirs up discord.

¹⁵ Therefore his disaster will overtake him in an instant; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

¹⁶ There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that are disgusting to him.

¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

¹¹ And then neediness, as a way-goer, shall come to thee; and poverty, as an armed man. Forsooth if thou art not slow, thy ripe corn shall come as a well; and neediness shall flee far from thee.

¹² A man apostate, is a man unprofit-able, he goeth with a wayward mouth;

¹³ he beckoneth with eyes, he trampeth with the foot, he speaketh with the finger,

¹⁴ by shrewd heart he imagineth evil, and in all time he soweth dissensions.

¹⁵ His perdition shall come to him anon, and he shall be broken suddenly; and he shall no more have medicine.

¹⁶ Six things there be, which the Lord hateth; and his soul curseth the seventh thing.

⁴ give thou not sleep to thine eyes, neither (let) thine eyelids nap.

⁹ How long shalt thou, slow man, sleep? (or How long shalt thou, O lazy one, sleep?) when shalt thou rise from thy sleep?

¹⁰ A little thou shalt sleep, a little thou shalt nap; (and) a little thou shalt join together thine hands that thou sleep (again).

¹¹ And then neediness, as a waygoer, shall come to thee; and poverty, as an armed man. Forsooth if thou art not slow (or But if thou art not lazy), thy ripe corn shall come as a well; and neediness shall flee far from thee.

⁹ Till when, O slothful one, dost thou lie? When dost thou arise from thy sleep?

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, A little clasping of the hands to rest,

¹¹ And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man.

¹² A man of worthlessness, a man of iniquity, Walking with perverseness of mouth,

¹³ Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, Directing with his fingers,

¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, devising evil at all times, Contentions he sendeth forth.

¹⁵ Therefore suddenly cometh his calamity, Instantly he is broken — and no healing.

¹⁶ These six hath Jehovah hated, Yea, seven are abominations to His soul.
