¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man.

¹² A worthless person, a man of iniquity, Is he that walketh with a perverse mouth;

¹³ That winketh with his eyes, that speaketh with his feet, That maketh signs with his fingers;

¹⁴ In whose heart is perverseness, Who deviseth evil continually, Who soweth discord.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; On a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.

¹⁶ There are six things which Jehovah hateth; Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:

¹⁷ Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood;

¹⁸ A heart that deviseth wicked purposes, Feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁹ A false witness that uttereth lies, And he that soweth discord among brethren.

²⁰ My son, keep the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother:

²¹ Bind them continually upon thy heart; Tie them about thy neck.

²² When thou walkest, it shall lead thee; When thou sleepest, it shall watch over thee; And when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; And reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

²⁴ To keep thee from the evil woman, From the flattery of the foreigner’s tongue.

²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; Neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

²⁶ For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a piece of bread; And the adulteress hunteth for the precious life.

²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?

²⁸ Or can one walk upon hot coals, And his feet not be scorched?

²⁹ So he that goeth in to his neighbor’s wife; Whosoever toucheth her shall not be unpunished.

³⁰ Men do not despise a thief, if he steal To satisfy himself when he is hungry:

³¹ But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; He shall give all the substance of his house.

³² He that committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: He doeth it who would destroy his own soul.

³³ Wounds and dishonor shall he get; And his reproach shall not be wiped away.

³⁴ For jealousy is the rage of a man; And he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; Neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

¹⁴ His perverse heart devises evils: at all times such a one causes troubles to a city.

¹⁵ Therefore his destruction shall come suddenly; overthrow and irretrievable ruin.

¹⁶ For he rejoices in all things which God hates, and he is ruined by reason of impurity of soul.

¹⁷ The eye of the haughty, a tongue unjust, hands shedding the blood of the just;

¹⁸ and a heart devising evil thoughts, and feet hastening to do evil,—are hateful to God.

¹⁹ An unjust witness kindles falsehoods, and brings on quarrels between brethren.

²⁰ My son, keep the laws of thy father, and reject not the ordinances of thy mother:

²¹ but bind them upon thy soul continually, and hang them as a chain about thy neck.

²² Whensoever thou walkest, lead this along and let it be with thee; and when thou sleepest let it keep thee; that it may talk with thee when thou wakest.

²³ For the commandment of the law is a lamp and a light; a way of life; reproof also and correction:

²⁴ to keep thee continually from a married woman, and from the calumny of a strange tongue.

²⁵ Let not the desire of beauty overcome thee, neither be thou caught by thine eyes, neither be captivated with her eyelids.

²⁶ For the value of a harlot is as much as of one loaf; and a woman hunts for the precious souls of men.

³³ He endures both pain and disgrace, and his reproach shall never be wiped off.

³⁴ For the soul of her husband is full of jealousy: he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁵ He will not forego his enmity for any ransom: neither will he be reconciled for many gifts.

¹¹ and suddenly you will become poor. It will be as though a bandit suddenly comes and takes all that you have.

¹² I will describe for you what worthless and evil people are like. They constantly lie;

¹³ by winking their eyes and moving their feet and making signs with their fingers, they signal to their friends what they are intending/planning to do.

¹⁴ They plan to do evil things. They constantly cause strife/trouble.

¹⁵ But disasters will hit them suddenly; they will be crushed/ruined and nothing will be able to heal them.

¹⁶ There are six, maybe seven, kinds of people that Yahweh hates. They are:

¹⁷ People who show by their eyes that they are very proud; people who lie MTY; people SYN who kill others SYN who have done nothing wrong;

¹⁸ people who plan to do evil deeds; people SYN who run quickly to do wrong things;

¹⁹ people who easily tell lies in court; and people who cause strife between family members.

²⁰ My son, obey my commands, and do not ignore what your mother has taught you.

²¹ Remember the things that we have said. Those things should be like a beautiful necklace around your neck.

²² If you follow our advice, it will be as though what we have taught you PRS will lead you, wherever you go. When you sleep, they will protect you. And when you wake up in the morning, they will teach/instruct you.

²³ These commands and what we teach you will be like a lamp to light your path MET. When we rebuke you and correct/punish you, we will be showing you the road to having a good life.

²⁴ Heeding PRS these commands and things that we have taught you will enable you to keep away from immoral women and from listening to the enticing words of an adulterous woman.

²⁵ Even if such a woman is beautiful and has lovely eyes, do not desire to go with her. Do not let her persuade you to go with her ◄with her eyes/by the way she looks at you►.

²⁶ Do not forget that you can hire a prostitute for only a loaf of bread, but if you sleep with another man's wife, ◄it may cost you/you may lose► your life.

²⁷ Can you carry hot coals in your pocket and not be burned RHQ?

²⁸ Can you walk on burning coals and not scorch/burn your feet?

²⁹ No! And in the same way, anyone who ◄sleeps with/has sex with► another man's wife will suffer for doing that. He will certainly LIT be punished severely.

³⁰ We do not despise a thief if he steals some food because he is very hungry.

³¹ But if he steals something and then is caught by the police, he will have to pay back ◄seven times as much as/much more than► he stole. He may need to sell everything that is in his house to get enough money to pay it back.

³² But a man who commits adultery with some woman is very foolish, because he is destroying his own self/soul by what he is doing.

³³ That woman's husband will wound him badly, and other people will despise him. His shame will never end.

³⁴ Because that woman's husband will ◄be jealous/not want anyone else to sleep with her►, he will become furious, and when he gets revenge, he will not act mercifully toward the man who slept with his wife.

³⁵ And he will not accept any bribe/money, even if it is a big bribe, to ◄appease him/cause him to stop being angry►.

¹² A good-for-nothing man is an evil-doer; he goes on his way causing trouble with false words;

¹³ Making signs with his eyes, rubbing with his feet, and giving news with his fingers;

¹⁴ His mind is ever designing evil: he lets loose violent acts.

¹⁵ For this cause his downfall will be sudden; quickly he will be broken, and there will be no help for him.

¹⁶ Six things are hated by the Lord; seven things are disgusting to him:

¹⁷ Eyes of pride, a false tongue, hands which take life without cause;

¹⁸ A heart full of evil designs, feet which are quick in running after sin;

¹⁹ A false witness, breathing out untrue words, and one who lets loose violent acts among brothers.

²⁰ My son, keep the rule of your father, and have in memory the teaching of your mother:

²¹ Keep them ever folded in your heart, and have them hanging round your neck.

²² In your walking, it will be your guide; when you are sleeping, it will keep watch over you; when you are awake, it will have talk with you.

²³ For the rule is a light, and the teaching a shining light; and the guiding words of training are the way of life.

²⁴ They will keep you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the strange woman.

²⁵ Let not your heart's desire go after her fair body; let not her eyes take you prisoner.

²⁶ For a loose woman is looking for a cake of bread, but another man's wife goes after one's very life.

²⁷ May a man take fire to his breast without burning his clothing?

²⁸ Or may one go on lighted coals, and his feet not be burned?

²⁹ So it is with him who goes in to his neighbour's wife; he who has anything to do with her will not go free from punishment.

³⁰ Men do not have a low opinion of a thief who takes food when he is in need of it:

³¹ But if he is taken in the act he will have to give back seven times as much, giving up all his property which is in his house.

³² He who takes another man's wife is without all sense: he who does it is the cause of destruction to his soul.

³³ Wounds will be his and loss of honour, and his shame may not be washed away.

³⁴ For bitter is the wrath of an angry husband; in the day of punishment he will have no mercy.

³⁵ He will not take any payment; and he will not make peace with you though your money offerings are increased.

¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.

¹² A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth;

¹³ he winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

¹⁴ deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy.

³⁵ Nor will he yield to any man’s prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.

¹¹ and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.

¹² Rebellious and wicked people go around telling lies,

¹³ winking slyly, giving sneaky foot gestures, rudely pointing with their fingers.

¹⁴ Their warped minds plot evil schemes; they're always causing trouble.

¹⁵ As a result, disaster falls suddenly on such people; in just a moment they're destroyed without hope of healing.

¹⁶ There are six things that the Lord hates, seven things that he absolutely detests:

¹⁷ arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that murder the innocent,

¹⁸ a mind that plots evil schemes, feet that hurriedly run to do wrong,

¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, those who caused arguments in families.

²⁰ My son, pay attention to your father's instruction, and don't reject your mother's teaching.

²¹ Keep them always in mind. Tie them around your neck.

²² They will lead you as you walk along; they will watch over you as you sleep; when you wake up they will talk with you.

²³ For the instruction is a lamp, and the teaching is a light. The correction that comes from discipline is the way to life.

²⁴ It will protect you from an evil woman and the seductive words of a prostitute.

²⁵ Don't let your mind lust after her beauty, or let her hypnotize you with her fluttering eyelashes.

²⁶ You can buy a prostitute for the price of a loaf of bread, but adultery with another man's wife can cost you your life.

²⁷ Can you put fire in your lap and not burn your clothes?

²⁸ Can you walk on hot coals and not scorch your feet?

²⁹ It's the same for anyone who sleeps with another man's wife. No one who touches her will remain unpunished.

³⁰ People don't condemn a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he's hungry.

³¹ But if he's caught, he has to pay back seven times what he stole, even if it means handing over everything he has in his house.

³² Any man who commits adultery with a woman has no sense; he who does so destroys himself.

³³ He will be wounded and dishonored. His disgrace will never be removed.

³⁴ For jealousy makes a husband furious, and he won't hold back when he takes revenge.

³⁵ He refuses any compensation, and won't be paid off, however big the amount.

¹¹ Therefore thy pouertie commeth as one that trauaileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.

¹² The vnthriftie man and the wicked man walketh with a froward mouth.

¹³ He maketh a signe with his eyes: he signifieth with his feete: he instructeth with his fingers.

²⁶ For by means of a harlot one is brought down to the last loaf of bread: and an adulterous woman will even hunt for the precious life,

²⁷ Can a man gather up fire in his lap, and shall his clothes not be burnt?

³³ Plague and disgrace will he meet with; and his reproach will not be blotted out.

³⁵ He will not regard the appearance of any ransom; and he will not be content, though thou give ever so many bribes.

¹¹ Then poverty comes upon thee as an evil traveler, And want as a swift courier:

¹² A foolish man and a transgressor Goes in ways that are not good.

¹³ And the same winks with the eye, and makes a sign with his foot, And teaches with the beckonings of his fingers.

¹⁴ His perverse heart devises evils: At all times such a one causes troubles to a city.

¹⁵ Therefore his destruction shall come suddenly; Overthrow and irretrievable ruin.

¹⁶ For he rejoices in all things which God hates, And he is ruined by reason of impurity of soul.

¹⁷ The eye of the haughty, a tongue unjust, Hands shedding the blood of the just;

¹⁸ And a heart devising evil thoughts, And feet hastening to do evil—are hateful to God.

¹⁹ An unjust witness kindles falsehoods, And brings on quarrels between brethren.

²⁰ My son, keep the laws of thy father, And reject not the ordinances of thy mother:

²¹ But bind them upon thy soul continually, And hang them as a chain about thy neck.

²² Whensoever thou walkest, lead this along and let it be with thee; And when thou sleepest let it keep thee; That it may talk with thee when thou wakest.

²³ For the commandment of the law is a lamp and a light; A way of life; reproof also and correction:

²⁴ To keep thee continually from a married woman, And from the calumny of a strange tongue.

²⁵ Let not the desire of beauty overcome thee, Neither be thou caught by thine eyes, Neither be captivated with her eyelids.

²⁶ For the value of a harlot is as much as of one loaf; And a woman hunts for the precious souls of men.

²⁷ Shall anyone bind fire in his bosom, And not burn his garments?

³¹ But if he should be taken, he shall repay sevenfold, And shall deliver himself by giving all his goods.

³² But the adulterer through want of sense procures destruction to his soul.

³³ He endures both pain and disgrace, And his reproach shall never be wiped off.

³⁴ For the soul of her husband is full of jealousy: He will not spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁵ He will not forego his enmity for any ransom: Neither will he be reconciled for many gifts.

²³ For the mitzvah ·instruction· is a lamp candle, and the Torah ·Teaching· is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

²⁴ to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

²⁵ Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.

²⁶ For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

²⁷ Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?

²⁸ Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

²⁹ So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.

¹⁶ There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that are disgusting to him.

¹⁷ The eyes of a proud person, a tongue that lies, hands that shed the blood of innocent people,

¹⁸ a heart that invents wicked schemes, feet that quickly run to do evil,

¹⁹ a witness who breathes out lies and one who sows discord among brothers.

²⁰ My son, obey the command of your father and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.

²¹ Always bind them on your heart; tie them about your neck.

²⁴ (so) that they keep thee from an evil woman, and from a flattering tongue of a strange woman.

²⁵ Thine heart covet not the fairness of her; neither be thou taken (in) by the beckonings of her. (Do not let thy heart desire her beauty; nor be thou taken in by her beckonings.)

²⁷ Doth a man take fire into his bosom, And are his garments not burnt?

²⁹ So is he who hath gone in unto the wife of his neighbour, None who doth touch her is innocent.
