¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man.

¹² A worthless person, a man of iniquity, Is he that walketh with a perverse mouth;

¹³ That winketh with his eyes, that speaketh with his feet, That maketh signs with his fingers;

¹⁴ In whose heart is perverseness, Who deviseth evil continually, Who soweth discord.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; On a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.

¹⁶ There are six things which Jehovah hateth; Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:

¹⁷ Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood;

¹⁸ A heart that deviseth wicked purposes, Feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁹ A false witness that uttereth lies, And he that soweth discord among brethren.

²⁰ My son, keep the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother:

¹⁰ Thou sleepest a little, and thou restest a little, and thou slumberest a short time, and thou foldest thine arms over thy breast a little.

¹¹ Then poverty comes upon thee as an evil traveller, and want as a swift courier:

^11a but if thou be diligent, thine harvest shall arrive as a fountain, and poverty shall flee away as a bad courier.

¹² A foolish man and a transgressor goes in ways that are not good.

¹³ And the same winks with the eye, and makes a sign with his foot, and teaches with the beckonings of his fingers.

¹⁴ His perverse heart devises evils: at all times such a one causes troubles to a city.

¹⁵ Therefore his destruction shall come suddenly; overthrow and irretrievable ruin.

¹⁶ For he rejoices in all things which God hates, and he is ruined by reason of impurity of soul.

¹⁷ The eye of the haughty, a tongue unjust, hands shedding the blood of the just;

¹⁸ and a heart devising evil thoughts, and feet hastening to do evil,—are hateful to God.

¹⁹ An unjust witness kindles falsehoods, and brings on quarrels between brethren.

²⁰ My son, keep the laws of thy father, and reject not the ordinances of thy mother:

¹¹ and suddenly you will become poor. It will be as though a bandit suddenly comes and takes all that you have.

¹² I will describe for you what worthless and evil people are like. They constantly lie;

¹³ by winking their eyes and moving their feet and making signs with their fingers, they signal to their friends what they are intending/planning to do.

¹⁴ They plan to do evil things. They constantly cause strife/trouble.

¹⁵ But disasters will hit them suddenly; they will be crushed/ruined and nothing will be able to heal them.

¹⁶ There are six, maybe seven, kinds of people that Yahweh hates. They are:

¹⁷ People who show by their eyes that they are very proud; people who lie MTY; people SYN who kill others SYN who have done nothing wrong;

¹⁸ people who plan to do evil deeds; people SYN who run quickly to do wrong things;

¹⁹ people who easily tell lies in court; and people who cause strife between family members.

²⁰ My son, obey my commands, and do not ignore what your mother has taught you.

¹⁰ You sleep a little, and you rest a little, and you slumber a short time, and you fold your arms over your breast a little.

¹³ Making signs with his eyes, rubbing with his feet, and giving news with his fingers;

¹⁴ His mind is ever designing evil: he lets loose violent acts.

¹⁵ For this cause his downfall will be sudden; quickly he will be broken, and there will be no help for him.

¹⁶ Six things are hated by the Lord; seven things are disgusting to him:

¹⁷ Eyes of pride, a false tongue, hands which take life without cause;

¹⁸ A heart full of evil designs, feet which are quick in running after sin;

¹⁹ A false witness, breathing out untrue words, and one who lets loose violent acts among brothers.

²⁰ My son, keep the rule of your father, and have in memory the teaching of your mother:

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!

¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.

¹² A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth;

¹³ he winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

¹⁴ deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy.

¹¹ And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.

¹² A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,

¹³ He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.

¹⁴ With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.

¹⁵ To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.

¹⁶ Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:

¹⁷ Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

¹⁸ A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,

¹⁹ A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.

²⁰ My son, beep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.

¹⁰ You may say, “Please, just a little more sleep, a little longer snooze, a little more folding of the arms to rest”—

¹¹ and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.

¹² Rebellious and wicked people go around telling lies,

¹³ winking slyly, giving sneaky foot gestures, rudely pointing with their fingers.

¹⁴ Their warped minds plot evil schemes; they're always causing trouble.

¹⁵ As a result, disaster falls suddenly on such people; in just a moment they're destroyed without hope of healing.

¹⁶ There are six things that the Lord hates, seven things that he absolutely detests:

¹⁷ arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that murder the innocent,

¹⁸ a mind that plots evil schemes, feet that hurriedly run to do wrong,

¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, those who caused arguments in families.

²⁰ My son, pay attention to your father's instruction, and don't reject your mother's teaching.

¹⁰ Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the hands to sleepe.

¹¹ Therefore thy pouertie commeth as one that trauaileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.

¹² The vnthriftie man and the wicked man walketh with a froward mouth.

¹³ He maketh a signe with his eyes: he signifieth with his feete: he instructeth with his fingers.

¹⁴ Lewde things are in his heart: he imagineth euill at all times, and raiseth vp contentions.

¹⁵ Therefore shall his destruction come speedily: hee shall be destroyed suddenly without recouerie.

¹⁶ These sixe things doeth the Lord hate: yea, his soule abhorreth seuen:

¹⁷ The hautie eyes, a lying tongue, and the hands that shed innocent blood,

¹⁸ An heart that imagineth wicked enterprises, feete that be swift in running to mischiefe,

¹⁹ A false witnesse that speaketh lyes, and him that rayseth vp contentions among brethren.

²⁰ My sonne, keepe thy fathers commandement, and forsake not thy mothers instruction.

¹⁵ Therefore shall suddenly come his calamity: unawares shalt he be broken without a remedy.

¹⁶ Six things there are which the Lord hateth; and seven are an abomination unto his spirit:

¹⁷ Haughty eyes, a tongue of falsehood, and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹⁸ A heart that contriveth plans of injustice, feet that hasten to run after evil,

¹⁹ A false witness that eagerly uttereth lies, and him that scattereth abroad discord among brethren.

²⁰ Keep, O my son, the commandment of thy father, and reject not the teaching of thy mother:

¹² A worthless person—a wicked man— lives by the crookedness of his speech,

¹³ winking his eyes, making signals with his feet and pointing with his fingers.

¹⁴ He plots evil with deceit in his heart; he always stirs up discord.

¹⁵ Therefore his disaster will overtake him in an instant; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

¹⁴ in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.

¹⁵ Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

¹⁶ There are six things which the LORD hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

¹⁷ arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

²⁰ My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep—

¹¹ so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.

¹² A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth,

¹³ who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers,

¹² A man apostate, is a man unprofit-able, he goeth with a wayward mouth;

¹³ he beckoneth with eyes, he trampeth with the foot, he speaketh with the finger,

¹⁴ by shrewd heart he imagineth evil, and in all time he soweth dissensions.

¹⁵ His perdition shall come to him anon, and he shall be broken suddenly; and he shall no more have medicine.

¹⁷ High eyes, a tongue liar, that is, accustomable to deadly leasing, hands shedding out innocent blood,

¹⁸ an heart imagining full wicked thoughts, feet swift to run into evil,

¹⁹ a man bringing forth leasing, a false witness; and him that soweth discord among brethren.

²⁰ My son, keep the commandments of thy father; and forsake thou not the law of thy mother.

¹⁰ A little thou shalt sleep, a little thou shalt nap; (and) a little thou shalt join together thine hands that thou sleep (again).

¹¹ And then neediness, as a waygoer, shall come to thee; and poverty, as an armed man. Forsooth if thou art not slow (or But if thou art not lazy), thy ripe corn shall come as a well; and neediness shall flee far from thee.

¹⁴ by shrewd heart he imagineth evil, and in all time he soweth dissensions. (with a depraved heart he imagineth all kinds of evil, and at all times he soweth discord.)

¹⁵ His perdition shall come to him anon, and he shall be broken suddenly; and he shall no more have medicine. (His perdition shall come upon him at once, and suddenly he shall be broken; and then he shall be without any remedy.)

¹⁶ Six things there be, which the Lord hateth; and his soul curseth the seventh thing.

¹⁷ High eyes, a tongue liar, that is, accustomable to deadly leasing, (or a lying tongue, that is, one accustomed to deadly lies), hands shedding out innocent blood,

¹⁸ an heart imagining full wicked thoughts, feet swift to run into evil (or feet quick to run to evil),

¹⁹ a man bringing forth leasing, a false witness; and him that soweth discord among brethren. (a liar, that is, a false witness; and he who soweth discord among brothers, or among friends.)

²⁰ My son, keep the commandments of thy father; and forsake thou not the law of thy mother. (My son, obey thy father’s commands; and do not thou abandon thy mother’s instructions.)

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, A little clasping of the hands to rest,

¹¹ And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man.

¹² A man of worthlessness, a man of iniquity, Walking with perverseness of mouth,

¹³ Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, Directing with his fingers,

¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, devising evil at all times, Contentions he sendeth forth.

¹⁵ Therefore suddenly cometh his calamity, Instantly he is broken — and no healing.

¹⁶ These six hath Jehovah hated, Yea, seven are abominations to His soul.

¹⁷ Eyes high — tongues false — And hands shedding innocent blood —

¹⁸ A heart devising thoughts of vanity — Feet hasting to run to evil —

¹⁹ A false witness who doth breathe out lies — And one sending forth contentions between brethren.

²⁰ Keep, my son, the command of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother.
